Colin Edwards was, like Slighty, a classic 2nd string guy.. competent enough in WSBK, but not 'killer' enough - to claim the top step in G.P. racing..
To be fair
Slighty outperformed both of his world champion the previous years teammates.
Foggy 1996 and Polen 1994 when both raced the same RC45.
No one can claim they were not used to Hondas either as they both had extensive RC30 experience prior to Diucati mounted world championships
Both came to Honda wearing the number one plate and yet left lagging behind Aaron.

& then Honda cruelly threw him into Mick Doohan's grip, for a reality check..
Poor bloody Aaron, unlike Col'.. never quite made it - as WSBK Champ, either..

Well Col was WSB champ. Aaron was more consistently near the top than anyone else I can think of in WSB then.
No one was able to match Doohan but Aaron was just as fast as a few other NSR500 riders who had ridden the bike for seasons on the two occasions he was allowed to ride the NSR.

Yeah, ol' Mick was keen on the 'screamer' quick-spin NSR 500 crank configuration - to sort the men from the mice..
Has anyone tried a 90`- 'crossplane' screamer-type crank on a Yamaha TZ 750 - for classic racing?

Pretty sure he did that to Caparossi he did that too, it was a mean trick.
I whish I could find the article where he admitted to Nerfing Gobert to get him to shut is piehole about how great he (Gobert) was in a race.

Huh? Capirossi ?? When was he ever Doohans team mate?
You surely mean Alex Criville, what was annoying Doohan was all the other Honda riders would just wait and read Doohans data and setup and run with that come qualifying and race time.

Yeah might have been it was a eurofile with a bunch of vowels in his name.
Edit yip it was Criville
Loris Capirossi was Honda NSR500 mounted in 95 but not in his team

It won't rain and Lorenzo will beat Rossi on his home turf opening the way for the title.
It won't rain and VR will have a battle with JL, VR will win, and JL will look sour.
I will para phrase it but a uni in Japan (kobe I think)has this theory (backed by pretty extensive stats) that most top sportman only has the mental concentration for about 10 years at the top.
A lot of sports physiologists go along with it. I liken it to battle fatigue
Like anything 10 years is probably the middle of the bell curve. Some guys got battle fatigue after one firefight. Others kept at it even after seeing most of their buddies blown to bits.

Yeah but it was 98% after 30 days continuous exposure(ie without R&R) to the battlefield I know that the other 2% were psychopaths.
With Rossi that's maybe why he needed to part with Burgess so he could shake it up.

Your "30 days" worth - might apply to draft-bunnies - but to professional hard-arses such as SS/SAS, they'd go a fair bit longer..

Exactually why he did it. He needed to start again with a different route to follow, than what he and JB New. There is a new breed of riders and style he needed to adjust too

Which is what? Best to leave the analysis to those who do know.. (L.M.F.?)..
As for M-D's typical nonsense about V.R. adapting his style.. in reality, Rossi+Ducati = Epic fail..

Which is what?
That's to easy not to answer simply a loss in performance.
Swank and Marchand's World War II study of US Army combatants on the beaches of Normandy found that after 60 days of continuous combat, 98% of the surviving soldiers had become psychiatric casualties. And the remaining 2% were identified as "aggressive psychopathic personalities."

As a rider, the Last thing I'd want to do is build a screamer. You stick with your theory. I'll stick to my reality. I know which is more enjoyable. Go back and think about the questions I asked that you have yet to answer. Theres a few clues there.

"Stick in the mud,"You make a lot of incorrect assumptions don't you! especially when it's not your money or bike.
180 vs 120 phasing on triples. You still don't know much do you. 180 degree is used regular in 3 cyl yamaha builds.

If you could read, grumpy grandad.. you would see that I asked why they didn't do 180`cranks in triples.. the regular 120`- is a "cross plane"/screamer..
FYI, a 360` crank configuration was tried in an H2, for dirt track racing, but the vibes/harmonics & transmission shock loadings killed it..
So yeah, you can bloody well just stick your hypocritical asumptions & boringly judgemental "attitude" - right back up - where it vented from..

Yeah he doubled the size of my ignore list, it's now Cassina and him. Can we organise for them to start PMing each other? It'd keep them both occupied.
Am looking forward to the race, there are a number of things that make it interesting. The track has been resurfaced and a dramatic drop in laptimes is expected but there was a photo this morning of Marquez on a scooter, parked in the middle of the track bending down looking at some patches in one bend.
The Ducati riders should have good setting from the get go because they do their testing there. Michele Pirro, their test rider, will be racing and he has done a phenominal number of laps around Misano. Rossi will need to qualify well otherwise he's likely to have a whole posse of Ducatis between him and whoever is in front. He will know that, but knowing about it is one thing...
Rossi has been doing a lot of training at Misano on an R1. Yesterday I saw mention that this was "controversial". That's funny 'cause I hadn't noticed anybody moaning previously. Any rider can do unlimited testing anywhere they like as long as they don't use a GP bike and any mods to the bike they are using are approved by the Dorna technical people.
Luca Marini, Rossi's little brother, is riding in Moto2. While he is most famous for being Rossi's half brother, he is currently sixth in the Italian Moto2 championship. Wonder what happened to the five guys in front of him in the championship?

Was that by Deano on Superbike plan? He does type a lot of shit on occasions, but some times some good info. So with Suzuki, Honda and Ducati all having tested at the track on the new surface this year I am wondering how this will effect the Yam's when they rock up at Friday practice?
Naturally both the Honda boys will be quick off the bat but I am wondering if the Duc's and Suckzuki's might be able to bust in some decent times early on too giving them a good base to work off for Qualifying. With the soft tyre option and the windy track we may end up with a few of them out qualifying the Honda or Yam boys. Rossi may be in the shit basically so lets hope he puts his head down a qualis well.

Off topic because it's got nothing to do with MotoGP, but I do have to wonder what a psychologist would make of someone who posts messages despite knowing that nobody will read them.
Similar to that philosophical question about the tree falling in the forest?
More like a fart in the breeze, if it gets blown away before you smell it, was it ever there???

I don't know who Deano is but you are right about him typing shit. The Ducati team do their testing at Misano on GP bikes, so too have the Suzuki and Honda teams. Track milage on a GP bike is more relevant than circulating on an R1.
One of the Spanish riders has been basically living at the Aragon track - cant remember who and can't be bothered checking, but it isn't just Rossi as "Deano" claims.
The option is available to anybody who can afford the track fees.
There isn't even a storm in a tea cup, it exists entirely in Deano's mind.

I'm just trying to remember if he tested there on the 2015 chassis or whether he had already swapped to the 2014.
My picking is he will either win it or bin it, pretty much will be for the remaining races.

The Dovi vs Eeeaaahhhnoneee battle will be quite good I think, 2 Italians, on Italian bikes, on Italian turf... I used to love watching Eeeaahhhnoni in Moto2 with his balls to the wall attitude. Dovi is a bit more calculated but is very hard to pass due to his demon braking.

I've been meaning to say, when Rossi gave Burgess the boot - I really thought that was just the death throes of a dying career (VRs one). At the time I thought Rossi was just trying to use Burgess as a scapegoat for his poor performances and as a rider he was washed up. I have to eat those words now!
Rossi has really stepped up. Dumping Burgess turned out to be the best move for him. It did take a year for Rossi to get his Mojo back after returning to Yamaha. Sure is paying off now though.

I wonder if Jeremy Burgess had decided that Rossi was past it, and consequently wasn't trying to find solutions as hard he might have been in years gone by. Make no mistake IMHO Burgess is a king among crew chiefs. As Alex Briggs wrote, Burgess changed the way the whole of pit lane operates. He was winning, so everybody copied his methods.
My question is, when does JB's book come out? Sadly, Alex Briggs told me that JB is more interested in golf these days.

Yet I would say his results are worse... 2013 he was not far off the title win (yeah yeah get fucked doubters) but we did have 3 riders going at it all season for the title. Now if we believe what he us saying about 2014 and arm pump then it was his fitness last year and the beginning of this year which fucked him up.
Buttt, is it losing Puig really??? Who knows. Could be just a crap bike!
Next year will either be his year, or his last year on the Repsol. That is my predicion and I am picking Miller is the one who would jump on the bike in '17 if thats the case.

I doubt it man, he is much happier so should be more relaxed and ready to pull the trigger. The compition has really grown in the last 2 years which obviously makes it harder for riders in his position on track, ie 3rd place and down ( ON AVERAGE for him)

I came across a bit about Swantze in about 94 Suzuki asked him to do a session on the very uncompetitive RGV250.
He did a session and was only a couple of tenths off the lap record.
The thing that was great about Kevin was he never had a problem specking his mind.
I guess he was meaning Pedro's had done nothing in the 8 years in the top class.
As for Puig Swantze was not the only one who thought he had a pretty charmed existence in the top class being a Spaniard didn't hurt much I guess.
When you look at JB's record of success with so many riders its very hard to deny he was doing all the right things.

Swantz's Electronics ( Suspension data man) told me in Japan in 2001 I think, we never listen to Kevin, as the data proves he is Wrong haha. He just rode the dam wheels of the thing. I had a signed book by Kevin once, untill a house I was living in got robbed

Lap times don't lie though ,Feedback is a relative thing, I don't think Gardner was to good at it either, Judging by what everyone said Sheene was shit and so was Kokinski , Doohan obviously was great but he too was initially fooled by the big bang and thought the original motor felt faster even though the lap times were the same in back to back testing (But the tires wore less so faster in a race overall or a softer compound could be run)
The big bang Doohan said steered better as the Balance shaft fixed the gyro the single crank NSR had. (not a problem in all the other twin crank set ups)
When Suzuki did their version even though the lap times were faster, He still wanted to run the screamer set up. But kevin was a racer I think more interested in winning a race against someone than winning a title.
The thing Burgess always mentioned about Mick in interviews was how hard and fast Mick rode during testing.

It's not going to be his choice. Pedrosa was going to be replaced by Marquez a couple of years ago, it's only due to the fact that Stoner quit that he kept his job. Honda will still be looking to sign the right guy - whoever it is.

So Yamaha fitted winglets to Lorenzo's bike last night in FP2. They had tested these at Aragon apparently.
Nick Harris announces that the winglets won't make much difference to the lap time.
The pit lane guy butts in and says that Lorenzo has changed to a new medium tyre, he'd been using hard.
And suddenly it's a new lap record.

Maybe we should have persisted with them at Teretonga in 1988... We wanted to keep the front of the GSXR1100 down over the bumps past the line as it wound up to around 180mph plus (calculated off revs and gearing - confirmed later at a flying 1/4)
Officails were looking sideways at them though so off they came. Still regret that.

Chipping away stll. Only .2 - JL now and .1 to mm. I bet ya JL is concerned about Vale and his coincistency and typical last laps speed. This is gunna be a ripper - Hey, how about that Smith fella eh, pretty god dam good I reckon, and Miller sure is getting a handle on that thing now. Haha, some times you can win the race in the 1st corner, ie get the hole shot and sprint away if you can manage your tires to last. Rossi needs to stick with JL in the race. Right behind Rossi on the grid is Bradley Smith who, as the commentators keep telling us, is now considered one of the best starters in the field. It would not be good for Bradders to get between Rossi and JL.

Those swapperoo races make a mockery of the supposed fuel allowance limits.. or do they still have an aggregate fuel balance to meet/ be checked?

With 5 races to go whats the maths on MM winning the season again? -I mean 5 more results with VR finishing back there or a crash out.
JL having another crash etc.
It doesn't look to me like its entirely the two way battle its being made out as being.
Ditto for JL to win --looks to me like VR has to finish all 5 races more than 1 place behind him in every race.

Smith stayed out on the slicks :eek5: Balls of steel. Redding crashes, changes twice and makes the podium. Happy for them both. Wonderful ride for Baz.
Lorenzo.... mumble, mumble, berk. Should have pitted when his team told him and been patient.
Rossi? Stayed out ridiculously long... master tactician my arse... still increased his points lead. Fuck again!
Marquez did it right. Took a big chunk out of Rossi's lead... both Yams had better be careful he doesn't get too close.

If it was rubbish why did he get a black flag? Try and keep up.
In the past lapped riders have interferred with race leaders to the advantage of their fellow countryman or team mate. As soon as a lapped rider starts to mix it they should be black flagged IMHO, and in the opinion of Race Direction in this instance.
And on Rossi staying out too long, yes he has history in this regard, but he was in front of Lorenzo and he wanted to stay there so he stayed out. Once Lorenzo came in he could come in too but by then it was too late.

MM is 63 points behind Rossi with five races to go. If Mm wins every race and Rossi finished 3rd each time MM would only close the gap by 45 points.
If JL wins any of the remaining races MM would close by less than 45. Realistically for MM to threaten there needs to be an injury or other DNF to one, or both of the Yamaha riders.
Next race is Aragon in two weeks time but then, starting 11 October, there are three races in three weeks: Motegi, Phillip Island and Sepang. If anybody gets injured in Japan it's possible all three races will have been run before they can recover and that could change things dramatically.
We should, however, have a better idea after Valencia.

Oh FFS he gifted the battle to Lorenzo by staying out an extra lap only for Lorenzo to gift it straight back by throwing it down the road. It was a Yamaha comedy of errors. I think the only reason he got the black flag was for ignoring the -2 he was shown a lap earlier. He was told to drop 2 places, the commentators said he had 3 laps to comply; I suspect that's BS - you have three laps to comply with a ride-through, but much less to comply with a 'drop place' instruction.
The taking out of Aegeter was 'to be reviewed after the race'
Taking out Aegeter was a mistake, but the black flag just made him conceited, especially waving to everyone on his black flag lap. He should have fucked off back to the paddock and had a beer instead of making himself a pest.
That MotoGP race... fuckin hell. When Rossi caught up to JL/MM initially, I thought : you have to pass here. But he took his time about it, and then inexplicably stayed out when the tyre was turning to popcorn.
Even if he was waiting for some more drizzle, his tyre was that fucked he'd have just about been better off pitting and getting a slick anyway. If he'd stayed on the wet til the end of the race he'd have finished out of the points, if he finished at all.
All that experience, and he made a pretty foolish error that cost him a good amount of points may well come back to bite him later on if his rain dances stop working.
I found it funny, Lozenge saying that two races in a row with rain is 'bad luck'. If he had his way they'd race on Mars!

To take advantage of modern rubber?
Rubber is not a problem
To allow greater power output without overstressing transmission componentry?
1) seen the gearbox on one? they are not the weak link
2) More power won't make one necessarily go around a circuit quicker
To dig the sound it makes..
They sound okay onboard.
