I have seen allot of new riders on 250's and other riders who aren't so keen on racing or trying to keep up with the super sports looking for some organised rides around hamilton.

I am on a zx6rr but i am looking to enjoy a relaxed ride rather than race anything.

Was thinking of getting a group started for a ride or 2 a week when people are keen.

Weather pending (http://metvuw.com/forecast/forecast.php?type=rain&region=nzni&noofdays=all) i would like to organise a ride for a couple of hours on sunday.

I am thinking somewhere in the middle of 11am to 3pm starting at the garden centre in kahikatea drive with a coffee, will be on everyone to decide where to go but i was thinking raynes road - mystery creek - cambridge - morrinsville and hadn't thought any further :)

Anyways, drop a message in here if you are interested.

:P

Sounds wicked guys, i was thinking of the garden centre in kahikatea drive, i can't remember the name, will drive by when i am back in hamilton.

I am open to suggestions on times, routes and places :)

Just want to keep it a little subdued for the less confident and less cc'd guys.

Not saying slow, just relaxed and a but subdued, started from another thread about guys on the 250s who want to build up experience and don't want to be left for dead by the litre bikes.

Up to you.

Sweet as dude, that mystery creek run we did the other weekend would be cool in reverse, aparently you can go from where we hit cambridge that day to te aroha on the back roads, not sure of the surface tho.

If it helps i can drop off coke and caramello when i pick you up :)

depending which way we are heading, another option could be Jacks cafe (31 Cambridge Road) by the valedrome in Hillcrest. That is if we are heading cambridge or morrinsville way.
Actually I better check it is open on a sunday.

10.30 sounds like a good time to me too.

//edit Just phoned them and they are open on a sunday from 9.30

Sorry, just a clarification of when the ride is on. I am unavailable this weekend but you guys are all keen - correct???

And you are all keen for labour weekend - on the Sunday (traffic shouldnt be to bad on the Sunday) - correct???

Meeting at Jacks at 10.30 with the aim to leave 11.00ish (both weekends??) - correct???

getting on a bit now and have learnt to many times "never assume anything??"

cheers and looking forward to catching up and talking bikes etc

Hey mate.

Yep, a few of us are getting together for a ride on Sunday. It will be a pretty cruisy one. Not a race. Meeting at Jacks in Hillcrest. Cambridge Road. Meet at 10.30 for a 11am kick off.

You are welcome to come along! Keep an eye on the thread on Sun morning, might be called off if it is pissing down. *sits and waits for the HTFU comments*

pfft, anyone says the htfu can try wet roads on my tyres! - i could be inviting a host of arguments on that but meh

A cruisy and fun ride is not so cruisy and fun in heavy rain.

cheers and hope you have a good day Sunday, sounds like there maybe 4 or 5 at this stage. Hope to catch up with you all the following sunday.

I have a wee idea in the back of my mind that if anyone can be ready at 9.30 Sunday 26th, I am prepared to shout a full buffet breakfast to any riders and pillions. Take off for a ride 10-15 - 10.30. Sorry cannot do breakfast at any later than 9.30. (all will be revealed if its a go) Just an idea to try and get some numbers and contacts.

Anyone interested???????????

No worries MJ. You did really well for your first open road ride, and there wasn't that much waiting involved. Between the rain and the hail it was a good ride.

Looking forward to the next one already!

There were 7 today, a good number and a nice spread of personalities and bikes. There was sunshine, rain, hail, a bit of wind and allot of good riding. Of course the roads dried up perfectly just as we called it a day :)

People were friendly and polite and only wysper took the piss outa my shiny new quasimoto suit  which is less shiny and fits better after matamata.

I am still keen on breakfast, still curious about the deal, sounds mischievous :)

10:30 was to cater for the hang overs of some which paid off today but i am normally moving around the 8am mark, specially for breakfast.

OK I'm back, sounds like fun (apart from the rain, not a great fan of it myself). If we are on for Sunday brekkie and ride I'm happy to tootle along behind with mj. I'm in for the ride not the speed.

Yes can do breakfast at 9.30 am Sunday morning. Though you will all have to meet at the Kingsgate Hotel (huge car park so no problem parking) my old bike will be parked outside somewhere. Ive pulled a few strings so they are providing brekkie free!!!!

Forecast is for showers (bah humbug).

Need to know numbers so please advise yeh or ney!!!

Where did you go on Sunday??? Kawhia's always a good ride!!!

We went Hilcrest -> airport -> mystery creek -> cambridge -> matamata -> karipiro -> somewhere close to hams -> hams all on the back roads apart from a sneak from cambridge to matamata.

(might have got that mixed up, i'm a nerd, not a navigator)

Bloody cool road, i am sure i would get lost (damn shame) trying to go the same way by myself.

I think its a good idea to not do the same route all the time or it could get boring/racing :)

Forecast is showers maybe so I think we look at a route with plenty of good long straights. Which is great for confidence and getting experience and just plain cruising. So my suggestion is Up Te rapa straight, right into wairere drive, out to Gordonton Road, turn right then left and all the way down Puketaha road then right and through to Morrinsville. Turn left just after Morrinsville down Horrell road, turn right at Haumia road straight ahead through the highway, turn left at end, right at wiseman road, left at Otway road, left at end then right onto Paeroa/tahuna road. at end turn right to Te Aroha. take the straight road from Te Aroha to Matamata (Stanley Road South), then back up the highway turn left at morrinsville turn off, back to morrinsville and home (Te Rapa Tavern??). Probably about 160-180 km ride.

Any thoughts??? And if the weathers real shitty, should we look at doing it Monday as the forecast is better???

Sounds good to me. You can count me in as a confirmed.
As long as there are at least some twisties (as in the roads) that is all good by me.

Theres 2 ways from Te Aroha to Matamata, I suggest you take the other way. Alternatively you can take the back road from Matamata back to Morrinsville. thats a pretty good one, however probably which ways you go may depend on the weather, I like the straights if its wet.

The weekend rides are good for me too. After work I am straight home to give my wife a break from the kids and then it is tea and off to bed so not much chance of riding then.

Ok. Depending on who turns up we could split the group at Te Aroha and rejoin in Matamata?

If anyone else is coming can they post a reply here. I think Murray needs a good indication of numbers.

So I think we can add Squid & Sidewinder which is making it up to 7 at least. Carver maybe busy at Church.

Looking Good. FYI heading to Rotorua Sunday last and past about 30 bikes heading out of Rotorua on the Mamaku's. Looks like there Sunday runs are going well.

Looks like Munta might not be able to make it. But 6 will be good.
Should be fun.

And hopefully in the middle of a long weekend even traffic might be a bit lighter too. Not that we are aiming for roads with too much traffic.

roll on sunday :wari:

Yes can do breakfast at 9.30 am Sunday morning. Though you will all have to meet at the Kingsgate Hotel (huge car park so no problem parking) my old bike will be parked outside somewhere. Ive pulled a few strings so they are providing brekkie free!!!! Thats from Murray, our kind host for this ride.

Great, possibly 8-10 bikes. Hope the weather plays its part. Could be the start of a regular type group - FYI the restaurant at Kingsgate closes at 10.00 am. So to be fair to them we cannot all arrive at 10.00 am so be kind and try and be there between 9.30-9.45 at latest.

If its absolute shite we can make a decision on who goes/who stays/who wants to go Monday etc etc.

Looking forward to meeting up with you all. I will be the ugly old fat dude outside with my old bike (as per avatar). My pretty, skinny wife will make sure you are looked after in the restaurant. Any Mormons arriving BEHAVE!!!

I think I will probably end up tail end charlie cause I'm still a bit of a nanna on the bike, especially on roads I don't ride often. I think Te Aroha would be a good stop for you. We can all get a coffee at the cafe just past the main intersection and they do great bowls of chips. duh there goes my fat tummy again

yep. we are going to try to make this a regular thing. Especially for the non-racers/speed freaks among kbers.

Also so it is a ride the new riders are happy to come along on. There are several of us who dont mind cruising along under the speed limit and riding with folks that are just getting ther confidence up.

If you are wanting to prove how hard you are by going super fast or crazy, then these aren't the rides for you.

Not to say if you want to be the "leader of the pack" thats fine, just means you have to wait for us at designated stops and you should have all our coffees ready and paid for by the time we get there

Good call Murray!

We had some quicker guys on the last ride too. For me that is good, I wouldnt mind a few pointers to help me be a bit less of a nana and learn some skills to push myself a bit.

I plan to use the mentors for that too!!

I did pm quasi to see if he wanted to come but he tells me now he only has a racing bike. So that pretty much rules out the Hamilton mentor for street bikes. I would have liked a few tips too. However as the group grows and gets to know each other I am sure useful tips will be passed on

I have posted a calendar event for this ride.
If you guys going on the ride get a moment and you click on the link and register your interest and then I would be interested if you all think this will be a better way of organinsing the rides rather than ppl trolling through this thread looking for route details etc.

I say we keep the thread open to talk about rides and the like but thought it might be a good way to keep all the important info in one place

Anyway I thought I'd just make a general comment that this sounds bloody good. And also sounds like it's gonna take off a bit.

I think I'll have to have a talk to the wifey about joining you lot but will have to see what the weather does since she doesn't have the full closet of gear like me.

I generally ride most weekends either by myself or with the local Ulysses group, but I've often wondered what Hamilton KB'ers do...:argue: when you look in the events folder & see what all the other regions get up to. Having done another GC last weekend I'm happy to cruise along this weekend

I know of plenty of good routes for future rides most will be below 300 km, so nothing too major with most being off the main roads as much as possible.
Im happy to lead the rides but have a problem keeping to the speed limit so i may have to do a bit of waiting.
Im keen to pass on any knowledge i have so just ask if you guys want some help, im no expert but will help where i can.

Hey paddy,

really appreciated your lead last week :) thanks again, it was especially good to be off the main drags, not for the lack of police but more the lack of cages and for the learning a new road thing.

I've set the Breakfast table for 18 at this stage.

I think the route I have proposed will be good considering what the weather is looking like and relative experience/inexperience of the group. We can split at Te Aroha and one take the straight and one take the not so straight and combine again at Matamata. And similarly coming back from Matamata. Either via Walton backroads or the highway. Being wet I will stick to the nanna straights.

I picked up a one piece rain suit from Boyds yesterday. Just popped in to look. As I arrived the heavens opened and it fair pissed down. So I bought one. Just a shade over $110. If it keeps the rain off then I will consider that a hundy well spent. It did keep the rain off for the rest of the days riding so, so far so good.

The first ride, matamata... rained and not only rained it freaken poured, then today matamata... rained.. me thinks there a jinx involved...

I reckon we should start breaking the group up into smaller groups if we get another one like today, i think i counted 15???

Anyways, i am looking forward to the next run on sunday, thank you to all who came along and :nya: to those who couldn't make it.

Had a good ride, even if we didnt manage to follow the same route we all managed to get to the meeting points.

The groups will break into groups by speed anyway. I cruised mostly at 110-120 and others went faster. At the end its about getting there and meeting and as a "laxed out group" riding at a pace you feel comfortable at.

Had a good time and great to catch up with all. We didnt get wet until Gordonton back in Hams.

cheers and beers all and hopefully catch up next week

I hear waingaro has quite a few KM of gravel and new seal so it might not be a good choice, raglan is sweet :) we could all converge on whale bay!

Raglan is a fairly medium-length run, there was some talk about kawhia last week that sounded quite allot longer.

There was about 3 km of gravel just pass the turnoff from the Raglan road but that was sealed about 3 months ago. Its all pretty sweet now. We could do Raglan and come back via waingaro and ngwahia.

Kawhia is a sweet ride and we could meet at Pirongia for morning coffee, come back through Ototahanga, te Awamutu. Great ride. Both of them. Leave it to you guys to decide

the waingaro loop was a common wednesday night hoon last year, but it started to get heavily policed.

But its a nice ride .. I went through about a month ago with the missus on the back. Its a bit short for a weekend loop, but an after work loop it is top notch.

Did the "raglan loop" (hamz-ngwahia-Glen Massy-waingaro-raglan highway-Hamz). with Choppa yesterday, was a great ride, only a few patches of gravel at the top just before the raglan highway, but nothing serious.
It's kind of a short ride to to be called a trip, but still fun, Kawhia would be a better choice i thinks.

cool, regular weekend rides!!!
wont be able to make it this weekend but will be keen for the rest of summer. Waingaro ride is a goody but a bit short for a decent days outing, unless you carry on up SH22 and back through Te Kawhata, Miranda, Gordonton perhaps.
Kawhia is a good sunday cruize...... failing that theres heaps of good roads in the waikato to choose from, hardest part is deciding where you want to have lunch!

Yeah man, thats where it started, regular cruisy rides.

Maybe we need to get together for 30 mins with everyone first and decide on routes?? I am thinking that will take the guess work out of allot of things and give the people who know the routes better option for an audience.

The first ride started with us heading in a general direction with no destination in mind :)

Kawhia would be close to 300k return trip, and a good one at that.
Also not a bad idea to discuss route on the day, you never know who :Police: might be looking at this thread.

Ham - Kawhia- Ham would be closer to 180 kms, I think if you wanted longer you come back through Otorahonga, Teawamutu way (or something like that). Getting to Kawhia you can't really go wrong, theres only one way from Pirongia to it. Prob best to meet somewhere, head to Pirongia for coffee then Kawhia. Then plan a route back.

Only issue with main centres like tga is the main roads, too many cages and boring roads, in saying that the paeroa to whangamata road is definately not boring and neither the is the kaimais road.

Hidee Ho peoples

Pissed I missed the ride on Sunday. Wifey decided no-go cause of the weather prospect so I decided to have one last dash at the snow. Turned out that was a bullocks idea and I should have come for a ride with you lot.

Anyways, we went for a drive to Kawhia a few weeks back to see what it was like and relive my youth. Pretty cool road and the big washouts aren't that much of an issue. We'd be keen for a Kawhia run and meeting at Pirongia since we'll be coming from the mighty 'moot (TA).

We went for a blat to Raglan about 2 weeks ago and got a little pissed with the cages. She's a busy road in the weekends and it was choca when we got into town especially with the cruisers.

Tauranga is a bit of a bland ride. I had to ride the bike back from there since I brought it over there.

That's just my 2 cents. If it's fine we'll keen to join use fella's. I wanna see all these wheelstands!:Punk:

When you put an event in a calendar there is an option towards the bottom that allows people to register interest.

Under Misc options
it is the option allow users to specify they will be attending this event.

Just as an idea, that breakfast was great, would it be something that we could pay for as a group or singularly? of course there would be logistical stuff like confirmed numbers pre-paid etc etc.

I'm out for this one. Too busy this weekend. Hopefully catch the next one.

However I like the idea of starting at a cafe!

Hoping to add to the fun if all goes well but it's dependent on weather as well, due to the wife. If we do head along we'll be joing the pack in Pirongia.

I told the wide to HTFU (re:weather). She kinda glared at me for a second, then I remembered waking up with a ringing ear  I guess that would be a 'no' then!

Holy shit, lucky I caught this one! I don't think I'd be walking for a month.

What I meant to say with the much better half

Yeah I know. I thought it would look better if I "improved" on it instead - you never know when she's watching/reading. It also may give me some brownie points.

I think I'm on -5 at the moment :)

Its the old saying, its not whether you are in shit or not, its only the depth that varies :spanking:

hahah indeed.

Just remembered something. Has anyone got any ideas of departure time for Kawhia? We have our 7 puppies to feed around lunch time (give of take a few hours) and if we do manage to make it tomorrow, depending on what time we leave Kawhia, we may have to organise the "grandparents" to feed them or something.
