met a mate at the pine man on our bikes the other week to grab this tag, as i rolled up the the MAN, my bike shat itself, (suspected blowen head gasket), should have taken the pic anyways, but instead pushed it down to BP and waited for the rescue team, only pic i got was of the bike as we craned it onto the back of my mates truck. will post pic when i find...that would have been a hard tag to replicate, lol.

Old Tag: Main street of Tokoroa (and now in a festive mood)
New Tag: On the way home, down a damn fine alternative to Old Taupo. From Arapuni Dam turn onto Darby, then Lake Arapuni Road. This becomes Wiltsdown (which crosses Old Taupo), then hang a right onto Paraonui, it takes you right into Tokoroa. Good fun; the usual loose metal here and there and a bit of fresh-ish seal, but you're big girls now.
And now I need new tyres. Sigh.

Yup. Paraonui, Wiltsdown etc are all good. Used to live on Paraonui a few moons ago. At one stage they were part on the NZ rally champs.

A nice boxinhg day ride has yielded up the old tag and produced a new one...here ya go.
OLD TAG: Sign pointing at Heteri Hill, along Wiltsdown Rd (or was it Lake Aapuni Road?). Somewhere along there anyway.
NEW TAG: Much closer to home but a little tricky unless you have walked a certain Hamilton City walking track. Access is via a no exit road on the Western boundary of the city. The name of the road has a connection to a Footrot Flats character...You have to ignore the "No Vehicles!" sign to get to the actual site. Nobody came roaring out with their shotgun when I went in and got the pic so you oughta be OK...probably..maybe...

Maybe I really should print out the clues as well as the current tag to help in my endeavors. First checked google maps, looks like a nice little loop so will go down Howdens Road. No luck, so turn around and go back for Wallace Road. Ride to the end and see something about no admittance, Rottweilers on the loose etc etc, I though that it seemed an unusual way to stop people going down there but "Hey Ho" Slofox did say something about not meant to be down there. YES there are ROTTWEILERS on the LOOSE at the end of the driveway. Thankfully they were tame...ish and didnt rush me until I had manage to turn the whale around in the narrow drive. So slowly pootle back down the road until I find where I originally intended to be.

Old Tag was Wallace Road

New Tag is situated on Slofoxs' favourite piece of tarmac (your favourite was SH1 wasnt it Slofox?)

Hey St_Gabriel, can you please be a bit more forthcoming with details of the whereabouts of your tags? This one is as bad as the childrens playground tractor; i.e. unless you already know where it is you're never going to find it. "SH1" isn't much of a clue, sorry. :argh:

Sorry about the lack of clues on this one Aristocat, on second viewing it is quite vague, though you should be able to deduce that the tag is located on SH1 so limits the roads you must travel, and if you look at the picture (click on it then make it original size) you will be able to see a couple of signs, one being a Mitre 10 Mega logo, one being for Fitness fusion, and then a tall sign with lots of little signs which is usually indicative of an industrial estate. Hmmm, lets put these clues together shall we????
The idea is to get out and explore, maybe PM the tagger for further clues or a resignation that you have no idea.
But anyhow, try going here 37.89313 South, 175.47539 East and hell, if thats even too hard to figure out click HERE (http://maps.lmgtfy.com/?q=37.89313s%2C+175.47539e)

You started on Ruakura Rd in Hamilton? not many twisty roads to really test a bike out unless you head out west past Dinsdale, the road to Raglan has some nice roads that come off it (like going to bridal veil falls). Too many straight roads here, found a road out to Paeroa that ha a 7km long straight. Not even a kink.

p.s. Make sure you use minor roads - the narrower, windier and least marked the better. Preferably with lots of "rural vehicle" syndromers too...

As I have said before, If you are going to eliminate every tag thats been posted before, then it leaves nothing for any new comer to chase. The thread will simply die out.
If it's not the same picture, I have no problems with a sign or building being posted a second time. Riders, me for example, are not going to flick through old tags and try to remember them all.
Going for a ride is what it is all about.

Here it comes..................................AMEN!
Lets not get too precious on this - the whole idea is to get people out riding, not just inventing more obscure landmarks.
Just cos one of us has visited X spot shouldn't preclude others doing so in the future. Lets preserve the spirit of riding!

The Gudex Memorial is on the site of an old sanatorium. These places were usually stuck up top of some hill somewhere. I've always wondered why this was. Was it so the wind blew the contagion away from the general population? Was it because higher altitude was supposed to be somehow healing? Or was it just to give the dying a decent view to kick off from?

Just so as not to rain on anyone's parade (like Silent f'rinstance...), the new tag is pretty close to the old so the ride is still there for those who want to zip over the hill. That new seal on the hill is gunna be the shizz when it's finished. Although there are a couple of seams between strips that are far from flat...

OK OK, I wasn't gonna go out there this morning but the day looked inviting and I figured I might just get to Raggers and back before the steel belt appeared through the back tyre...(it didn't).

On the way back home saw a car in the ditch by the golf course about 2 metres after some roadworks  straight piece of road as well. Never had so encountered so much roadworks on a ride before. Not just on the way to Raglan but also in Hamilton. Never seen so many cops either. Got breath tested on the way out by the Ham East cop station and saw 5+ cops on the way to and from raglan.

I did kinda mention it...sort of..."That new seal on the hill is gunna be the shizz when it's finished."
SH39 south of Whatawhata is also GUR at present. As is SH1 just norf of the dairy factory. That time of the year when every regional council goes all out to fix roads before winter I suppose - or maybe before their budget runs out...
Sure is a pain though, I agree...

Those roads on the deviation were pretty ridiculous. Except when we got moving. Me being the proud rider (not owner, Dad payed for the bike :P) of dat sexy blue DT200, I found this most enjoyable. Especially overtaking Screams mate on his VT250. I must say, the freshly completed bits weren't terribly glorious for me, cos trail tires.
Thanks Sil3nt for tagging along, you were great company. I didn't see you leave though, but I imagine it was my legendary navigational skills around Raglan, taking us through the main street as opposed to the quicker way that you must have gone. I think we did see you ~10 cars ahead of us at one point just after Te Uku.

I was gonna ask if they were doing what they did on Mt Messenger. It was a PIG when they were doing it. The father-in-law said he has some hairy moments in the race car transporter when they stopped them on the hill. He said 3 trucks in a row spinning wheels is not fun!
But holy shit balls batman...it's well worth it! The grip is insane and it holds up so much better.

It's pretty much the same deal. I was over there again this morning and the western side is pretty much all done. They've also resealed the eastern side but with chip seal. Which has tons of loose blue chip on it right now. How unusual.
The hotmix joins are a little uneven though - some of the strips look to be a little higher than the one beside...
Still, the grip, as you say, is indeed lacking in sanity. :devil2:

Here ya go lads and lasses - new tag. Fine ride out there this morning albeit cold as to start with.
OLD TAG: Sign outside Oparau Roadhouse, just before Kawhia. We got this on the way home - blew right past it on the way out...
NEW TAG: Sign tells all. We were tempted to use the AOS dude with the big rifle at Pirongia for the new tag but we figured he'd probably move on before anyone could get him.

After a ride through manky weather and roads, the tag has been unearthed...Wouldn't recommend Waitomo Valley Road just now. There's a logging operation happening part way along that has left the road covered with shitty clay with a slip factor of about ten million. Oh and it gets all over the bike as well. Gixxer looked like a trail bike by the time I got home today. Might even hafta ..."clean" it...shudder. :thud:

Man up, you got the time, you can get it lol (I've been sleeping with a roll of toilet paper for the last week and not for the usual reason guys sleep with toilet paper haha). If your nose is that bad just tampon it.:msn-wink:
While you're there go Limeworks Loop road way there or back, it's a cruisy little road with not much traffic (and not surrounded with trees so no slippery leaves lol).
