I am mystified by the latest tag another clue please?

Lake Rotoroa (hamilton lake - right in front of waikato hospital) is translated to "long lake"... I could be wong, but im pretty sure im not.

I am mystified by the latest tag another clue please?

If you know which lake is "Long Lake" you are half way there. If not, try google on "Long Lake, Hamilton, New Zealand"...1st entry works

Then I could tell you that the layby is one of the two most northerly on said lake...it's perfectly visible in street view.

Sufficient?

Clue: Hostpital is behind the fog.

That's my assumption and the only way the layby matches with google streetview!

Nice Bike Jim! Lookin sharp!

14th March 2011, 05:48
Jim's 3rd pic is from the correct layby (I think) - it is between Fowler's Ave and Killarney Road. His view is a little left of the direction I was looking in but it is from the right place.

Street view of this location has a white car parked in it. I didn't think it would be quite as confusing as it has turned out to be...

Nice Bike Jim! Lookin sharp!

Yes it is a new to me bike. I had an incident on Saturday morning 29 January. Wet road and very smooth tar seal. My tyres let go at 100 km's plus coming into Ohaupo at 6.30 am.
I was basically unharmed but the bike was terminal. Starr Insurance wrote it off. Honda Hamilton found me another ST 2008 model with 7000 kms on the clock. It now has over 12,000 having completed the TT 2000 in the South Island the other weekend.
If you have a close look at the panniers you will see I have given it a name

Huh! Worst excuse for a wheelie I ever heard!

Does your computer not offer rotation when you load the photos from the phone? Coz mine does...When I download pics from the phone they end up in a folder on the desktop. If I open the folder and double click a picture, it comes up on the screen and there are rotation buttons under the picture - little green arrow thingies...

You could always download ArcSoft PhotoImpressions - that does all that simple stuff. I think its freeware ? maybe...

nah he had to send it through his phone as his computer is broken, took him a while just to figure out how to add attachments would hate to see how long it would take him to rotate them lol.

I put Bridgestone BT016's on. Same as before. I haven't had 'em drop me yet.

Incidentally, I looked all over for prices of these tyres. Whilst I could have got the tyres cheaper and then paid to have them fitted, by going direct to Boyds and having them supply and fit, the deal I got was as good as any and better than some.

Tyres, as always, depend on what riding you do and how much money you want to spend. On my old Daytona I had the standard Pirellis, which I chewed through within 6,000k of nana riding. I then went to Michelin Powers 2CT and loved them.

I swapped out the stock pirellis on the new Daytona for Michy Pures (they wanted me to try them). 6,000k later and I think they maybe half worn. They have some predictable slip on the track. I would maybe go back to the 2CT's once I go through this set. Dunno why really. I think it's the slip that I get from them (although this doesn't happen on the road how I ride). I suppose it'll come down to price in the end. If the pures are the same, I'd more than likely go with them again.

Some people HATE michies. I'm not impressed with Pirelli's. Bridgestone are meant to do an impressive supersport tyre.

Re PS: Don't lie, you love it you studdly studmuffin you. I hope it was the chicks that nicknamed you that and not you guys mates :)

Hint: Go up the Kaimai's and have a break... staying within the Waikato boundary.
Thank you Virago

What type of tyre did you stick on your bike? Anybody have any recommendations?

I like Mich pilot roads, but have found the new Conti Road Attack 2 an awesome tyre, heaps of grip for the heavy bandit, wet, dry, cold - they're good
wore out about the same rate as the harder pilots

Sorry to those who wanted the ride - it's got.

Old Tag: Lookout at top of Kaimai, SH29:

New Tag: Bridge over Tranquil Water, near to a domain whose name sounds like the genre of movies Hammer Films made all those years ago - said twice for accuracy...

If that clue is too arcane, I can be a little more specific - just ask.

Bloody cold morning for a ride - I fair froze me nuts off up there, despite having put on the winter layers and gloves (which felt like brick hands after the summers...). And the sun was dead low so vision was not the best on the way up. Then of course, on the way down there was a line of traffic about a km long...

Just after taking the new tag, I followed that road up past the school. There was a young lad on a bike heading to school. He heard me coming up behind and hopped off to give me the biggest wave and grin you've seen...needless to say I had to oblige him with a little hoonery around the next corner. Luckily I didn't fook it up and fall off...)

Didn't Hammer films do all those weak vampire and early horror movies?
They did have series of Cave Girl movies according to wiki?

Yeah, you have the answer in there somewhere, all you need to do is select the correct word and run it thru the cipher algorithm he gave you.

Right on. Hammer were renowned for "horror" movies. Said twice, it's "Horror horror" which is homophonic with the name of the domain - viz Horahora Domain...

I don't often like it when a plan turns to custard but on this occasion I will make an exception. Let me explain.....briefly....My wife  bless her decided a much needed break was required at the beach and asked the brats if they wanted to invite friends. This pleased me no end cos that meantI had to take my bike :woohoo: So I hatched a plan to pick up the Waikato tag and drop it somewhere other that the outskirts of Hamilton Cambridge or Te Awamutu !!! Imagine if you will dear reader my absolute horror when my plan turned to custard when I sat down with my flat white at the internet cafe in Tairua to find that Mr Fox had snatched the tag from under me:facepalm: Imagine though my delight when I checked the forum on my flash new android phone thingy to find that he had been the subject of litigation by St Jim :argue: which means my plan is no longer the colour of calf crap  so here is my original plan and I can hear the squawks of protest already but I'm personally gettin a bit bored with pottering around the outskirts:yes:

How about just starting off with a new, clean map?

I did have a look at the list of tags once, and a fair bit of everywhere seems to have been tagged.

Would it matter if a new rider to this game did post a tag from long ago?

I find myself riding, and thinking " that would be an interesting tag", then think its probably been done before.

New map would be the best idea. Also be good to find somewhere other than google maps for it.

I was thinking of making a database of all the tags. Storing the required info like GPS positions and then writing a program to automatically add them to a map. That would make changes a lot easier. Editing on google maps is time consuming.

I just don't have the time to get it done right now.

Tomorrow, Friday, if the weather is reasonable, I'm going over to get the tag.

Thunder storms tomorrow afternoon, I'm hoping for a bit of rain to see how the cruiser feels in the wet. Also will be a chance to see just how waterproof my riding gear is.

I will head off from Te A about 8.30. Anyone wants to come along, my mob is 027 6923454. Will check it when I fill up I just sit around the 90-100ks so if thats too slow, at least you know before committing yourself.

An interesting alternative ride to Kawhia for the adventurous. A 10k sealed winding hill climb from the turnoff. You can return the same way, or be a 'real' man and go left for 10k's to come out on the Kawhia rd, or straight ahead to arrive in Oparau.

They must have sealed some of that road since I was last along there. Used to be a rutted goat track with gravel the size of boulders...

Edit: I was thinking of the other end of the road. This end is pretty cool...like you say, awa, nice ride up there. Some good lockout points as well.

When I went thru' to Pauanui to get a previous tag, kept thinking, going to be brassed off going all that way to find someone's just got there first. But thats the way it happens.

The R1 would revell in the hill leading to this tag. Just be aware of heaps of large ponga fonds on the road. On this narrow, windy road, there isnt much room for error.

Wondered who it was...:sunny:

I was of a mind to go get the tag this morning but was short of time so called it off at Karapiro and came back home over the dam. Was nearly late as it was...

That Pyes Pa road is pretty cool, eh. Nice ride, that.

I'd be up for a ride one morning if'n ya like...

Very good Dodgy - nice to see the tag jumping around.

Hmmm - I could push me bike to the new tag from my place...no point in riding it - it wouldn't even get warmed up...

Righto. In keeping with the rapid turnover of tags...

OLD TAG: Rogerson Racing Stables, Tuhikaramea Road.

NEW TAG: "Parrot Hill" (2nd picture) between Otorohanga and Te Awamutu but not on SH3.

To give you a little assist, I have posted a visual clue as well (3rd picture) - it shows what is opposite the tag position...should make it easy enough.

That hill doesn't look anything like a parrot. Unless it was a parrot that had died and had been buried with a shite load of dirt on top of it.
