thanks for that. Mine dont have it fo' sho'
I'm not used to riding with clipons now, plus I have an Ohlins shock which is longer than stock. No ground clearance issues now! (well, except when standing my arse is too close to the ground ;) )
Not used to clipons? What are you usually riding?

I havent had a sportsbike for road use for years. I'm old, yo'. And still 18 at heart.
So I am too often too tempted to wind it up. and on a sportsbike its like, first gear, second gear, third gear "Ooooh there's 180kph" and look, now I get to walk home.
Plus they're uncomfortable as fuck, you can only put one person on them etc. So I've had Honda 750's, Honda Hornet, now I have a Triumph Scrambler (its for sale too.....) and the VFR for trackday jollies. And a 125 cc scooter to go to work on (3.05l/100km!!!!)

Haha +1 for the scrambler, I want an older style bike like a GB 400 or something and turn it into a cafe racer or a cafe bobber.

Is the fuel economy about the same on the scrambler as the vfr? haha nice, what kind of scooter? The wife as a suzuki AN125 which I've had to ride every so often..drives me nuts only going 90k's though :-P
HenryDorsetCase
12th June 2011, 20:36
Its an AN125. its hilarious. I ride it like a pushbike but I dont have to pedal, its awesome. Plus so practical round town: fit a weeks worth of groceries under the seat and in the topbox, carry all sorts of shit on it no worries, and being a 125 it is quick enough to keep up with traffic. I wouldnt have a 50: you're just a moving target.
Scrambler and VFR is about the same fuel economy for sure: the Triumph has LOUD pipes and a K & N, and been rejetted though.....

yeah its pretty crammed up with the fuse box in there, I have a question (I have a 2nd hand bike, so no luck of a tool kit) There is a small compartment on the right side (sitting on bike) under the pillion seat that sits below the subframe, what exactly is that for? seems like a real prick to get anything out of it, im always losing shit down there haha, found a 3 month old apricot that I took to work and assumed it had somehow fallen out jammed in it.

I should have bought the CB250RS that was sold in chur chur last month with a blown motor. It was really good cosmetically and registered and warranted. An XL500 motor fits right in with minor modification.... unfortunately my cash flow last month sucked arse for little stuff like that. I spent it all on setting up new offices and crap.

Jafa puts a can of coke there, from memory, to have with the pie that's in the centre part of that compartment... Could never tell if he was just taking the piss or not, though :p

13th June 2011, 13:12
Make sure that you put the can in the side compartment under the pillion seat, and the pie in the middle section. If you do it the other way around, the can can move about while you're riding and work it's way into a position where it jams the lock mechanism. Which can be rather vexing to remedy, especially while you can smell your pie, and know that it is getting cooler with each passing moment.

Called AJ today to see how the bike was getting on. He said that everything has arrived, so he'll be getting to it shortly.
I mentioned that someone else on KB was having problems with those fairings and AJ admitted that, had he known they were coming straight from China, he would have told me to steer well clear. He is going to leave the mudguard and rear section alone entirely and try get the front fairing fitted up. If it looks like it's all turning to shit then I'll be trying for a refund as well and maybe getting some fibreglass fairings instead.

when I get fairings my plan is to get a base colour then get vinyl's I think it was me who was jabbering about it, you can get the standard lay out, just google search it, the original scheme is vinyled on a base colour
Edit: The r/h, l/h upper and lower panels it is. Tank is painted and I believe parts of the tail is too.

Yeah, they only do the front which is what put me off in the first place. I wonder if there were a few of us keen to order up front whether he would consider it? No idea how much of a hassle getting the molds made and sorted is, though.
For my case, the front was the only bit that needed replacing, the back was still hanging in there, although starting to crack pretty bad.
Edit: http://justfairings.co.nz/cms1/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17&products_id=170 has a 1-up rear section with it, so he can obviously do them. I could live without a pillion seat.

And after this professional installation - 70% of the bolts still are sticking out 'cause the holes are'nt big enough... go on - name and shame!
This shit is what puts the rest of us off so-called "professionals" at bike shops.
I'll be sure to resist the temptation of these chinese fairings in the future, too!
You guys were talking earlier about the airbox snorkel. Can someone post a pic of one?
tried it without the lid at all? just an HRC inspired idea.... they also ditch the filter IIRC

well over a grand.
My experiences both signwriting and working on my vfr at my uncles' panelbeating shop is that sport fairings are bastards to paint and even worse to apply vinyl. It's all the curves and holes that make paint prep and spraying a nightmare, and vinyl is a mission to alighn and then get to actually conform to the shape....
When I asked he said he only does the front ones,
I had a front from justfairings on my VFR to begin with, but stock plastic tail. I'm sure someone in NZ does race tails and cutting holes for seat and tail lights shouldn't be too difficult....

Had a reply from mr race evolution:
"First of all let me start us by stating that.
We did not offer you a professional fitting service. The rate does not deem a professional service, nor have I mentioned so. We personally did you a favor. You were insistent on we even fit the fairings for free. Please note you are yet to pay $90 for 6 hours of work that we carried out.
1. As mention on our phone call, we did not fit the front guard because your original was rubbing against the tire. Attached is a video that we took showing that.
2. I personally checked that the lock works, and the back seat did open when we tried. You can easily undo the lock up taking of the 4 screws from your image.
3. No tabs were broken off, what is the basis of this claim? We took a few millimeters off 4 individual tabs and everything fitted.
4. I mentioned to you over the phone, we spent 6 hours fitting the fairings and they do fit, it was up to you to line them up properly on your bike. We were not willing spent more than 6 hours given that compensation limit. You have simply sent me images of what we did, even though I mentioned to you that you need spend the time and line the fairings up with your bike.
5. The radiator hose and headlight are because the front sub frame is lined up to its lower limits, I would recommend you adjust that.
We have sent you 3 separate invoices and since have spend a lot of time on your order.
You paid a total of $749 for a full kit of fairings. OEM fairings would cost $400-$600 per piece if you can get them at all. By any standard you got yourself a bargain. We have had multiple customer purchase the same exact kit from the same mold and all are satisfied.
By fitting your fairings for free to date, we did you a huge favor. Most workshops charge you an hourly rate of $40, it would have set you back atleast $200.
"
1) What do yall reckon..before I pass my judgement - i've posted my previous emails to him up on here: Me saying I don't think they'll fit, can I have a refund, him saying no they fit, I'll prove it to you, we'll do them...
2) What's he going on about the front sub frame lining up? the radiator bolts on to the front sub frame does it not?, same as the front upper fairing and is not adjustable for height?
3) Where/what do I do from here?
Jono, any word from AJ yet?

I would recommend going to your local shop and explaining the situation and get them to quote how long they think it would take to remove the fairings then completely replace the fairings, and maybe if they are nice enough ask them to remove and replace and see what they say about the fit. If you can prove it then you have them by the balls, Trademe also states it on their terms and conditions that your not allowed to,
It bugs me more when people like Race Evo class their product as "NZ Made" when its just slit eyed bullshit.
I Emailed an Ebay seller last night as im considering taking a risk with cheap fairings, I have herd if you go with a top seller then you should be right, I only need a tail peice and belly pan as im getting a Suzuka front cowl. DM cant count. or read - he just looks at the pictures.
been reading of your woes, and youve done everything right, you were supplied a substandard kit, then gave him the opportunity to remedy it, which he has not.
as an aside, I did think your last email to him was perhaps a bit strongly worded, but his latest reply is saying in one sentence 'I have now fitted them for you', and then said 'you have to line them up your self' - but the issue was that they did not line up, so what was the point of him going anywhere near the damn things then if he had no intention of correcting the issue.
On top of that, it isnt just the actual fitting and lining up either is it, there are other problems, such as runs in the paint, and warped pieces such as around the tail section that arent even straight.
I used to own my own business, and did quite a few bike repairs, and from personal experience, the amount you have paid for the whole kit is only a couple dollars more than single OEM panels for many bikes. the last individual panels I bought for bikes were $606.50, $803.00 and $645.00. I think the old saying is that if it looks to good to be true, then it probably is, While you were gauranteed a good good product, and have a right to be pissed at the seller for not fulfilling their gaurantee, some personal responsibility needs to be taken for trying to take the cheap option. Pricing on cheap items is usually cheap for a reason.
Either way I hope you reach a happy resolution, good luck.

Tigertim - I hear you about the whole 'if it looks too good to be true', but then again, with automotive spares, there is a lot of leeway to produce good quality aftermarket pattern parts in most cases. Looking at this from another direction is that the chinese fairings that we were warned away from on 400GB and other forums were around $400 when I looked at them, so I was assuming something higher quality, or at least better quality assurance once it hit the country.
Icemaestro - Went and saw the bike mostly fitted up yesterday. The original rear tail pieces are a bit of a write-off as they're just crumbling. The tail fitted up ok but there were slight paint faults at the edges of the panels as well as the rear tail light brackets missing and the tail light holes being very poor. AJ has said that this particular fairing has mounted up better and looks better than most he has seen, so I think I'm just going to run with it for the moment. He is finding me a black tail mid-piece to mate up and see how that looks, because mine is quite ratty and has a broken tab anyway. The other issue noted was that the holes in the fairing around the screen are bigger than stock while the replacement screen was smaller than usual, so that's getting sorted. Check what he has done to mount to the front engine backets. AJ is going to shave some of the original bracket off and mount it in place using just the bolt rather than the bushing because the tab isn't long enough.
All in all, fun and games. I just want it over with now. Might consider trying to get some money back out of him for AJs time and to reflect that I might as well have just bought em straight from china.

I am interested to try my VFR with the stock airbox snorkel arrangement in place.
anyone got one they want to sell?
mine just has the replacement air filter, and a square slot in the front of the 'box to let the air in.
It has a slight hesitation as it goes through 10-12k rpm, so interested to see if it will smooth it out.

What do you guys think an NC30 is worth for insurance purposes? Currently have mine at $4000 but to get one from a dealer would be $4500-$5500.
depends on the insurer - do give David Golightly (http://www.golightly.co.nz/) a call; he only does bikes and is realistic (ie affordable and sensible) with premiums and payouts
the condition and mileage will cause the value to vary; I learnt the hard way with Protecta when they decided my stolen nc30 was worth what red baron would trade-in for at 58000km

Hi all,
I'm after a couple of bits so I can try out my NC30 for the first time.
Does anybody in the Auckland area have any of the following?:

- front brake lines
They don't have to be anywhere close to flash, just something cheap that'll enable me to have a bit of a play.

OK Peeps,
absolutely slutted  with the tyre life I'm getting from my Conti sport attacks, and am looking at other options that will give me same grip but better tyre life. looking at Michelin Power One Streets or Pirelli Diablo. Does anyone have any opinions on these two?
Or if they are both shite, has anybody used the newer Conti Sport Attacks which are now a dual compound?

Went and saw AJ yesterday - saw your bike there too jono....the tabs between fairings look a hell of a lot better than mine - they fit together (badly, but at least the tabs fit behind fairings etc!) Seems to be a common fault with the mould with the front cowl being too low and hitting the headlights. Your rear section was looking pretty darn good though!

getting about 5000 km's out of them. Wellington based, so Rimutakas and Wairarapa account for most of it. I'd class myself as an average rider, so don't know if I'd class it as hard riding. My front tends to take a bit of a beating as I often carry too much speed into corners. I also do the occassional track day, where I try to look like I'm riding hard :tugger: and the rear gets a harder time.

I might see if I can do something to get the headlight subframe to sit lower if I can be bothered.
BT090s are what was on my bike when I bought it and I've done about 5000kms on it, probably 75% town, 25% open road (1 track day, 2 coro loops, a few other misc bits and pieces) and they're still holding up well, probably another 1-2000 kms in em. Don't have anything to compare them to, really, but on the track I had the pegs down a few times (suspension probably a bit tired) and never once felt insecure about grip.

The VFRs at least are notorious for a flat spot at 5-7k RPM, with power coming on quick and smooth after that all the way to redline. No lumpyness at 1500rpm idle, either (oh how I miss that sound...).
Stock airbox/filter? I've heard bad things about people having issues after hacking up the airbox or replacing filters.
Otherwise it'll be a carb problem. A good clean out of all the jets/passages and then get it balanced, right as rain.

Mine doesn't have a standard pipe or jetting and runs like a bag of hairy assholes down low, it's particularly bad around 7-8k in the rev range. I've had it tuned by moto mart and they did a really good job. It is definitely not as smooth or as strong down low as a couple of VFR's I've ridden with, but once you get past 8k it starts to pull away.
If that's the one I think it is, it may pay to check the rear wheel, as I think it has a 18 inch rear off a vfr (not a huge thing, but limits your choice of rubber more). I let Dane (friendly american or canadian guy?) ride my RVF back when he had a motard, but he said wasn't that keen on them, then next time I see him, he's riding this one?
If you do buy, give me a shout and we'll go for a ride :scooter:

massive disadvantage.
it will raise the rear ride height which might make it squirrelly in the front. having said that the shock is nearly 20 years old if it is stock so its probably all saggy arsed anyway. Wonder if it has the correct linkage in it?
big issue is tyres. It is more difficult to find supersports rubber in 18 than 17.

Rubbish. 12.7mm lift in the rear will not make it "squirelly". Lifting the rear ride height is one of many recommended mods to be done on the NC30.
As an aside my current hoops are GPRA-12 front and rear. Mileage is fuckin hopeless, especially with the saggy arsed stock suspension. A 12 on the front and a 10 on the back maybe slightly better (mileage).

You shouldn't be able to pop a fuse using the 2-pin relay at all, even if the thing was completely forked, it would still just be indicators on or off, depending on how it died. This would even be if you connected it backwards.
It sounds like if you're popping fuses with it, it's getting connected between +12v and ground rather than +12v and load. If you turn the bike and indicators on, you should be able to put a piece of wire between the +12V pin and load pin of the relay connection and have the indicators just come on solid. If the fuse blows, replace it and try doing the same thing between +12V and the other relay pin. That'll tell you which one is actually connected to the lights.
Edit: Also, do you know if the LED indicators need an external ballast resistor at all? Some of them are just the LEDs and as such need an external resistor to stop the current going too high through them.

if you don't mind me asking, what vaguely did he end up charging for fitting your fairings / the carb balance? And what do you reckon about your fairings? Looking pretty good ay? Just the lining up of the front cowel/ front and side fairings ay? As well as the paint runs...
My vfr could do with a proper balance and adjusting of the mixture screws (currently set at stock but modified pipe on there and running 122 and 118 jets) - I can't remember from my last carb balance on a cbr, but is this adjustment usually done when balancing the carbs? (or do mechanics have to take the carbs off to do this)

Im hoping to rejet this week once I find out the internal and outer dimensions of the washers on the needles (need to add 0.5mm washer to each needle, might just replace the current 0.5 with a 1mm instead though) then im getting it balanced, Rick at MCR gave me a great tip to save myself money on the labour costs if I took it into him, said about adding the hoses etc and running them to the pillion seat marked so all they have to do is remove the tank and do the rest, instead of remove the lot, or something like that haha, I need to go and see him again as I forgot already but ya know ;)

Yeah, the fairings have been fitted up and look OK, nothing spectacular. The problem with mine is that I was coming from pretty well past-it fairings (cracked and disintegrating), so I've really just traded to a different kind of general rattyness.
I have no idea at all what AJ is charging me to fit them up, because I'm getting about 100 other things done because it started as an insurance claim. If you give him a buzz, he'll have a pretty solid idea of what it's likely to take, I'd think.
It's getting up there costwise pretty quick but that's new clutch lever, perch, bars, left clip-on mount, brake M/C swapped for better, triple clamps adjusted, new mirror stay fitted (including drilling out and replacing old fucked rivnut), idle mix adjusted, carbs balanced, exhaust split welded, bottom exhaust clamps re-fabbed, can polished and split weld fixed, new screen... Oh, new air-filter because the tray on mine is cracked (wtf?!).
Bugger balancing the carbs on those things yourself. I watched AJ do it and what a pain in the ass. Running hoses out sounds like a decent idea, but I'd just take the fairings off probably before riding it in. The rest will barely take him 5 minutes and saves needing the fittings etc. It's the adjustment that is the real killer, you really need the bike up on a bench and his magic right-angle screwdriver is helpful...
122 and 118 sounds fine for the jets. From memory, stock was 118 and 115. I think I'm running 122 and 120 at the moment.

Just done the jets on the bike,
Found that the front left emission tube has been over tightened by the previous, and has split where the thread is, so I left it like that but changed the Jet, added a 0.5mm washer to all the needles and adjusted the pilot jets, it sounds rough, and now it has a super flat spot at about 11grand to 12.5grand..
Im about ready to sell this bike on ae haha nothing but trouble.

That flat spot, does it pick back up afterwards or is that where you're shifting?
When you had the carbs apart, did you go through and give everything a solid cleaning? Carb cleaner down all the passages etc.? Have they been balanced?
I can't remember if you said where you're located? Anywhere near Auckland? AJ would be absolutely the one to sort out any carb issues.
Rode mine home today finally, I quite liked the ultra-aggressive sound of it with the exhaust leak, but it's back to having that beautiful deep burble... mmmmm... That and with the exhaust being quieter, I can hear the gears again.

it struggles to run through it, but once you get past 12.5 it continues like normal, I didnt do carb cleaner down all the little points etc, the only other thing needing done is a balance, its a lil uneasy on idle as well but I think that was my own doing when adjusting the pilot screws, no biggy there,
Im going to try get some JB weld and an air grinder and try and JB weld where its split in the float bowl around the threaded hole for the emission tube, I dont know if this is the cause of the problem, I sure hope so.
Everything that has been done on this bike, something has gone wrong afterwards haha, I think ill get this problem solved then flick it off .. the wallet is dry and if I cant afford to get it into a shop and I dont have any other means of transport :L

Have you tried putting it back to how it was?
It sounds like its now running too rich, that'll be those washers.
With the repair thing do you mean the float bowl is cracked because it was screwed on the the brass tub parts poking out too far?
If this is the case carefully applied JB weld should fix it well.

Where the main jet screws into is the emission tube, the part where the tube screws into is cracked due to the previous over tightening.
Its possible its to rich, Im going to remove the washers and give it another twirl tomorrow if I get a chance, I also have my insurance company possibly coming out to assess my fairings etc.

If I found a fucked emulsion tube or carb, I'd replace it... how can you expect it to perform correctly if you're not even doing the bare basics correctly?
/edit: If ya dig? I mean, if you try to make a jam sandwich from two slices of bread and some shite, it'll always taste funny... Carbs are sensitive to small things, fix anything that's obviously wrong before worrying about fine tuning, otherwise you might spend forever on something you can't actually fix

Not entirely sure so just going by Haynes manual says: steering stem nut 140nm, top yoke fork clamp bolts 11nm, rear wheel bearing holder pinch bolt 55nm. Torque settings not specified ate 5nm for 5mm bolt, 10nm for 6mm bolt, 22nm for 8mm bolt, 35nm for 10mm bolt, 55nm for 12mm bolt. Different torque settings for flange bolts and flange bolts with different sized heads. Should be in the PDF manual though

My nc30 has a rs250 rear shock, pre load and damping adjustment. It has raised the rear by a good bit too. I'm looking to so if anyone has an nc30 shock with preload and damping adjustment, remote reservoir and stock linkages that they want to swap for mine. It's great for cornering etc but I'm a little short and would love a slightly lower seat..if you're keen, pref in auckland or near but not too fussed, let me know, cheers.

No i got just the Can, and it sounds real awesome nice V4 sound, far better than the original one.
Tyga has some nice aftermarket bits for the Honda bikes but i dont want to over dress it, just want to keep it as original as i can, i believe these bikes will increase in value over time, i was told that by a mate of mine who collects certain Honda models.

When I asked at the local Honda dealer they replied "We CAN get them but you won't like the price." I think they were around $60 bucks each.

no no no! wrong attitude! the great thing about craft beer is there is heaps and heaps of different ones: next time you grab a 12 pack or whatever, just grab a single one of something else: cost you between $4 and $7 depending on what it is. Give it a whirl: the great thing is its all beer, and if you dont like the one you tried on spec, just dont get it again. $5 says that within a couple weeks you will be buying less of the massmarket stuff, and more of the craft stuff.

I mean come on, it's 24 years old, looks OK but WTF.
They obviously were keen though, steering was locked, in a garage, behind a padlocked gate (they cut the hardened Padlock (not the weak chain = Dick heads)
They had to drag it out of the garage (I can see the marks) as it was next to my tractor.
and lifted it onto a trailer or ute.
Keeping my eyes peeled. Very distinctive with black rims, and a loud exhaust.
The Rego was 2 months out of date, phoned NZ Transport and told them it was stolen, they waived the 2 months and put reg on hold (nice guys for once).

Hopefully they find the little snots, If I caught someone trying to flog my bike, man I would be the one getting arrested, Im lucky enough to live above my garage, so in order to get in they have to either cut through my roller door, or unlock and open my incredibly loud door downstairs, and even if they manage that, im pretty sure the crow bar beside the door up here will make sure work of their thieving little hands ...
Makes me so fucking mad hearing about people stealing shit, there are no reasons to steal, here in NZ you can be jobless and without a permanent home, yet you are able to live, because there are things set up such as the dole etc etc that allow you to continue a life of some degree, in NZ it would be incredibly hard to have absolutely nothing, its cunts who wont work or pull their own weight that choose what they think are the easier options, even in saying that some of them are just plain retarded, I know our education system isnt that bloody bad,
who the fuck steals a 24 year old bike, if someone is going to go to that much effort to have a car or ute of boat or whatever they are dumb enough to have, cut a padlock that has been designed to prevent dick heads like them cutting through, even though it would have been easier to go for the chain, then drag the bike out...
Then you think they would have sat down and figured out what the hell it is they are looking for, maybe im jumping the gun here, Did they flog anything other than the bike? if not then it was targeted for the bike and maybe it is someone you know, I couldnt see a 24 year old bike been popular for thieves who part bikes out and sell their stolen parts. Although I could be wrong.
Ok,

Bad luck, mate. Doubt it'll end up anywhere near me but I always take special notice of other VFRs around.
I've been riding my VFR to and from work this week and I've stopped noticing the problems with the fairings and have had a lot of people looking at it and a couple of thumbs up from cagers when stopped at the lights. It was running well before but feels much nicer now after AJ has adjusted everything. No more exhaust leak means it's quieter but sounds nicer.
Also, rolled the odometer, too, finally. It's now on 00090km :woohoo:

Waaay too low, tuddy. I used to find 33 front and rear was my sweet spot (55kg), though with a pillion I'd leave the front at 33 and bump the rear up to 36-38 (recommend 33/38 respectively for you).

Hey yall. Have the chance to buy a accident damaged VFR for pretty cheap.
What would you all say a vfr with low kms (around 35k), gravel rash on both sides, but all fairings oem and reasonably good condition cracks wise. I'm tempted to swap some of the bits to my bike and then sell the not as nice cosmetically one off. Hoping to get around 3, 3.2k for it...think this is do-able?
Also, if anyone has an oem nose cone they want to sell...pm me :-D

if we call a 100kg rider a jap+pillion equivalent, Honda reckons 225/250kPa (33/36 PSI)

One of the apprentices at work bought a 15,000km NC30 unseen for $3000.
the seller even rode it to his house......
but we can't start the bike.....
long story short the bike has clearly got more than 15k under it's belt, plus performance piper and exhaust. Took it to AJ to see what he could do and my-oh-my the cunt of a seller must have unloaded the bike from a trailer and ridden it up the driveway on fumes.
The fuel tap is stuffed, plastic handle missing too.
The air filter was filthy.
The trumpets are missing
The aluminium casting that holds the carburetor block together (and has the airbox on top) has had countless 5mm holes drilled into it. even the little divider ribs are ground out.
Aj started the bike and the fucking thing went beserk revving all over the place - idle, choke and throttle do fuck all - it's got a mind of it's own shoot yellow and blue flames out the rear!
So, the bike is clearly an ex-racebike run in dusty conditions with no airfilter whatsoever and probably HRC trumpets. An owner probably lost the trumpets and used all of three screws to fit the airbox to sell it. We can't trust the carb linkages are set right nor what the jets are set to so not really worth the effort....
The engine is probably knackered, but the current plan is to buy a new unmolested set of carbs and fuel tap and hopefully get a running bike out of it...

Managed to track one down and a painful price, but its in and going now haha,

So today I got busy on the bike, I need new fairings and im trying to find the easiest Method of doing it, I have been giving some ABS glue and have been repairing the current panels and body work so I can have them prepped and painted as its going to be the easiest way, seeming as there dont seem to be many credible sellers of painted after market fairings.
So I took to doing that today, done a fair bit and it seems to have come out pretty well, I also installed my new speedo cable which was easier than I had thought, and its working, so no issues,
Also tweeked some of my accent lights I had put in, one of my cables had melted on the motor a little, so I replaced the cable and have clipped it to the inside of the frame, hopefully it will solve that.
Pretty productive day, and nothing seemed to go wrong for once haha

Yeah the holes looked remarkably like the HRC mod and it would explain the lack of trumpets (ie they may have been running HRC ones), but there was no scoop or airbox mod, nor any common sense stuff like mesh screen to keep out sand/bugs...

this all took place in AJ's workshop - he didn't have a working set available for sale (swaps only), but did have a bitser where someone tried to fit the carbs with a hammer and broke one of the carb bodies:facepalm:

Yes, Rick Oliver supplies a lowering link for the rear shock,
Wouldnt recommend it though these bikes are designed for corners, Everything done to these bikes is for the twists, they would have made it lower otherwise, Im 5'5 and im on the balls of my feet/toes, just make sure you always put your left foot down, keeps your brake covered, and you will never slip up and fall over.
Long story short, The your feet dont touch the ground when your riding, so just ride! haha

He has the NC30 one listed, but im sure he does the 35 as well, drops 20mm, unless you maybe put a longer spring in the forks I wouldn't recommend dropping them down the tripple as they have alot of travel and youll probably end up smashing the front mud guard into the front cowl

Thanks guys, i have wound down the preload front and rear and have made some good gains.
The problem is that my wife who rides a 250R ninja, finds that ok, that bike has even a higher seat height than the 400, the reason is that the 250 seat is narrower and the 400 seat is wider, and with someone who has a short leg height, it means an extra stretch out in the leg department.
All looks ok now, she seems more comfortable on it.

All else fails, knock a link or two out of the chain, Or maybe its add one or two, and when you adjust the chain on the rear, it actually raises/lowers the rear depending which way you go, not by much mind you, I have mine sitting as high as I could get it without changing out the shock etc, found it easier to hit the corners a little harder and smoother

On the note of suspension,
I know there is a common mod for the rear shot, RS 250 shock or some shit,
whats involved, is it a straight swap? how much more height does it add to the rear and how much would one be looking at for the shock?
My rear shock has had it and probably needs a re valve which would cost me similar to a new shock.. so anything cheaper is better haha.

I had the rs250 shock, the bottom of the shock where it links on has to have about 5mm or so shaved off it to fit the nc30 linkages. if you google you'll find the rs250 shock mod. It also raises the rear by about 2cm I believe, I would say more than that, especially if you have an old saggy shock. The stock one I have now is in really good condition and probably only dropped it by 1cm (Though I haven't touched the preload yet)

While youre on that DM, Haydthreen is quite happy to sell you the cbr shock he has, I think its off the 04/05 CBR,RRRRRRRRRR or whatever it is, he wont be using the shock, Look into sizes etc and see if it will fit. fully adjustable, and being off a larger bike might suit your build a little better, seeing as those VFRs seem to have been built for people that weigh about as much as my wife

I think it would be doable, but its not a remote res, I have seen the CBR 600 one down, and the Res has to stick out of the tail fairing just a fraction.

a Guy CRM brought some Chinese fairings for his RVF, Look great paint wise, he hasnt fitted them yet.
For something epicly different you could go to tyga-Performance.com but you pay for what you get, but its all fibre glass.

I would love to get some tyga fairings, but have a limited budget, probably willing to spend up to $1000 NZD landed for a full set.
Yea i have kept my eye on that thread, eagerly waiting for a name of the ebay seller.

I just brought myself a Tyga Suzuka front cowl, and belly pan for the NC30, then im buying the 2 seat tail,
In total it will sting me about $800 NZ as I have a buyers discount through them, took some convincing .. I just need them painted, Idea is to have them painted black on the inside, and a base colour on the outside then vinyl wrap the details.

And I've talked to them about nc30 parts and they said they actually have a little bit of OEM stuff as well if you send them an email - might have some nc35 OEM stuff too, as I notice the tail on that kit is single seat

Hmm, thats a bugger, Give him a ring, Ive dealt with him several times, and aside from him occaisionally taking a day or three to get back to me, have always found them to be really good. What carb parts are you after exactly? Drunkenmistake has an almost complete set of spares in his shed.
we did give him a ring - that's how we got the dropped set!
Getting the plate replaced probably won't help - go knows what else they've done to this poor bike
We've got a complete set from one of the wreckers on the shore.

I'm at about the stage where I can blissfully say I've come to the end of a 4 year project. RVF400 NC35
Last actions are all about coordination of screen writer, custom painter and suspension specialist replacing front end and the workshop putting all these parts together.
Major work done was replacing Engine, Electrical Harness, Airbox & Carbs, Rear suspension, braiding lines, rearsets, exhaust and this last part the entire body work.
Thus if anybody wants to make an offer on HRC fettled VFR (NC24/30) Carbs let me know. They have the HRC slide modification, standard HRC idle pilots, HRC springs and main jets that makes the bike sound like a drunk V8.
Response is not as good as the flatslides but the power output and ease of access to the power at speed is awesome - mileage is not awesome
Make an offer and I'll consider it. DM any questions about other parts and bits

What am I doing now?
the HRC Carbs thing?
I want tooo but its pointless for road use it has an epic low end flat spot and I need to get a air scoop tray and some other bits and bobs, Though I wonder what the slides would be like in a normal set of carbs
Would be easier and cheaper to get pod filters and have it balanced and tuned, then swap carbs from road to race

The new subframe that comes with it raises the seat height by 20mm, and so long as you got a hugger for the back wheel it would look sweet
