Shame we didn't get to have waffles but enjoyed the ride.

Scrubbed in my new front tyre quite nicely while our gixxer 6 rider behind me kept me guessing for most of the way, she'd disappear and just when I'd start to worry she'd suddenly reappear right on my tail. Looked like she was having fun riding tail end charlie.

And finally when I was leisurely riding home all by my lonesome, some dodgy GN250 appeared in front of me popping and sputtering and leaving me to choke on a cloud of black smoke before he switched to reserve. Thanks Toto!

Yeah, you looked disappointed. You're usually the one to come up the rear. No Homo (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=no%20homo).

Plenty of fun to be had at the rear of the pack and no pressure to set a good pace, which is a good thing since I ride like a nana :D

Ok, note to self, don't worry about the gixxer 6... and we all love our bikes  Except gijoe1313 who hates mine, but he's just wrong!

Yes, Scorpio should be no problem. However, if you'd like, I can put you on the back of Scoot for the first ride? Either or is all good.

Depends how intense a ride we're talking. I'm a very noobie noob (L plate got 30/11), and I don't really want to go near the motorway yet, but distance is okay - I did a big loop today, from Mt Albert, through the city, Parnell, Remuera, St Johns, Ellerslie, Greenlane, down Gt Sth to Newmarket, through Khyber to New North, back to Mt Albert (AA Maps tells me it's about 33km). Was still raring to go when I got back, would have gone further, but had to go to work. :woohoo:

Well, how about you turn up, and we'll work it out when you see who is riding. If it's the usual suspects, you'll have a nice time either riding or two up. I'm keen for anything so long as Movenpick is involved.

I'm Working late yet again but I think this time I might finish in time! Got the camera in the bag also for some recordin'! Unfortunately I might move slower than a sloth due to Christmas feast at work. The bane of working with 55+ year old women is that they ALL bake and you must NEVER stop eating, "Go on, you need your energy! Have some mor blueberry cheesecake!"

Excuse me while I sing to Queen, it's a haaaaaard life~~~~

I've been lazy with going to Iaijutsu for a few weeks now, and got a decent amount of riding in yesterday (around the track.)
But before you guys leave, if you could text me a target address and a rough time, I'll see if I can meet up for whatever evening delights you partake in (pearl tea, icecreams, etc)

I had heaps of fun, thanks guys! I felt I learned quite a bit, and it really helped my confidence, especially with the cornering! Yay the Hunuas!

Stuff wot I lerned:
- If you think/feel you should be in a lower gear going into a corner, you should.
- If it looks like a corner is badly cambered coming up to it, it probably is.
- "Ride your own ride." I've really grokked that now.
- Follow the lines of more experienced riders. They probably have it more right than you do.
- It is really easy to change a rear/brake light. :woohoo:
- Leaning: I can do it.
- Squid = sportsbike rider with too little gear. Or anyone else similarly wince-worthy.
- "Ducati: Making mechanics out of riders since they were invented."
- Why are Hondas gay? "Honda apparently rhymes with homo." :killingme

Got a massive scare when I was hooning along the motorway in convoy with people (gijoe1313?) at 100kph, and a Highway Patrol car zooms up past us. "Shiiiiit, did he see the L Plate?" :shit: Apparently not... *whew*

Tis hard finding a name... first time I thought about it, the first name that popped into my head was Gertrude. You try thinking of a cute Gertrude huh?

Katie was Katie Holmes, Katy Perry and lots of cute Kates too.

Pot, kettle...

Boys and girls, I had the best day of fun with my Lil Scoot. We went for a little ride with Toto in a nice rural community called Pukekohe. The people there are really nice to us cow clad folk, and are nice enough to provide a little playground where all sorts of naughtiness is encouraged.

Aside from Mistress Helga's House of Domination, there's also the racetrack. :)

A nice day out. Although my back tire is really, ahem, tired. It lasted 3 sessions. A record of sorts. Lance was nice enough to let me play on his 600 race bike, which was more fun than Helga's (well, almost). I did have a little moment. Mental note to self - Scoot has a little more power than a 600, and throttle control (or lack thereof) is best not practised in a place where there's a bend and the front wheel being 3 feet in the air isn't the best start for making the bend... Grass tracking is fun... But not at 175.

Ride tomorrow night? Anyone???

So now we have to summon you to the ride? Make the ride go past your house, then you're there in a jiffy?

Left the Library and down to GiJoe's most excellent little shop (after a GSXR lost his way, and the tiny BMW had to show the way). Whilst consuming food, the zeocen was summoned, and appeared shortly later. He was on the ride long enough to eat, and as soon as the ride headed into the country, he returned home... guess it keeps the mileage down aye?

Wanpo's pillion had squeezed herself aboard the BMW (ok... so I could barely feel her presence), and with the suspension buttons pressed, 2 riders was configured. Out the back of Manukau to Clevedon, while waiting for everyone to catch up I turned my pillion into luggage (in the suspension settings of course), which softened the ride a bit.

Out to the coast, to see what damage the flooding had done, a brief pause for everyone else had her exclaiming the seat was sooo soft. Stopping in Maraetai for a yarn (as y'do), I declared to Wanpo that I had good news and bad news. The good news... she found it really comfortable. The bad? He was getting a BMW (he choked at this a bit). Flooding wasn't too bad on the road, except some pieces still had debris all over it.

Soon we could barely see each other, so off to Momotea for a round of drinks (Toto only ordered one!).

Then we went home. The end.

Meh, it's been something like 10 years since the GSXR rider was last there! I was only out by one little street... not like stuck in a paddock in the middle of nowhere!

Anyway, conveniently the smell of food was enough for the BMW rider to follow his nose from there and takeaways were eventually consumed.

Oh and next time Gremlin will bring his official BMW pannier-foldout picnic table and gazebo. :D

Also, "tiny BMW", WTF? I reckon that beast looks like it ate my bike and was looking for seconds!

... Then we went home. The end.

Unfortunately we didn't find GiJoe's lost iPhone4 while we were out and about.

And Wanpo stayed out too late last night, he was late for a staff meeting this morning. Likely caused by lack of sleep due to nightmares about having to buy a BMW instead of a CBR-thou.
It looks pretty bad for Wanpo when his gf pokes the gixxer pillion seat and announces it to be heavenly-soft compared to the Hyosung.

Wanpo (with gf, and gf brought guest girlie that Toto carried), Toto, Me. They kindly waited for me, when I txted from Warkworth to say I was going to be there at 6.30pm (and I was a little late, stupid holiday traffic).

Down the Southern, through the back of Botany Downs, round the coast to Kaiaua for dinner (got there juuuuust before they closed, they were packing and cleaning while we ate). Lots of big slips north of Kaiaua on the coast, most of them blocking the northern lane (cliff), some even having to be negotiated carefully on the southern lane (sea side).

Wanpo's gf jumped on the back after Kaiaua, wanting to cheat on the Hyoslug with a BMW (and who would blame her), and off to Momotea for drinks.

Toto wasn't sure where guest girlie needed to be dropped off, so they all let me lead into the city... fools. Showed Toto a road or two he'd never used, got the girl home safe, then back home.

Over 400km doing two little rides and some errands. Eat that GiJoe :bleh:

Well my ankle's good enough to ride today, so rode in to work only to find that Wanpo was feeling a bit down, muttered about being disappointed that the CBR600 he rode in the weekend didn't live up to his expectations. Also it seems everyone Wanpo knows has a new bike and now he's got himself a bad case of "bike envy".

He had to drop a flatmate off at Holeshot to pick up a shiny new Street Triple, so I said as long as he was going to be there anyway he should test ride something else for himself. So he called them and lined up a ride on a 2009 Triumph 675 Daytona, rather spiffy looking in red.

I had been eyeing up a 'Busa last week for a test ride, said I'd be in this week and today would've been perfect, but the cheeky buggers went and sold it before I could even ride it. Imagine that, selling it to some guy who had the money right away, the cheek of it!

Anyhoo, I rode with Wanpo, short ride up to Albany, Paremoremo, Coatesville, and back again. The end. (No doubt he'll be along soon with his impression of the bike).

wanpo
1st February 2011, 14:33
(No doubt he'll be along soon with his impression of the bike).

Meh.

Was a very weird feeling bike, sorta pulled in any gear (event when I thought I was in 1st, but was in second... which is impressive on my part because there's a gear indicator) and still had a bite when it hit a power band at around 8k rpm, odd dual note engine noise, sounded like an inline 4 noise coming from the front and a v-twin note from the exhaust.

What ruined it for me though was the seating position, saddle was really high off the ground which was fine for me, both legs were mostly straight when stationary (I'm probably 6'1" tall.) Which also led to Gale Wolf almost dropping it as he saddled it with his gammy leg. But the tank is quite short and the bars are really low, so you're either curled in the back if you sit up against the tank, or fully stretched out if you're pushed to the back of the seat.

Rob at Holeshot said he'd get me on a GSXR 750 later in the week, which I sat on in the store and felt more at home on.

As far as I'm concened, if I get back on my Hobag and give a relaxed "aaah" the bike probably isn't for me.

Gremlin

I'd agree almost 100%. The only issue is that you've done a lot of time on the Hyosung, very little on the other bike (so not quite a fair test). You do need to get on a potential bike and like it tho. When I test rode a new bike, getting on mine sucked in most cases.

Once you've changed bikes a few times, you'll also get more particular about finding faults, issues and reasons to buy or not buy each bike.

If you're not certain what you want, or requirements you have, then test ride a heap of bikes, naked, faired, different capacities, and see what you like.

As a 6'1 person myself the gsxr750 and CBR600/1000 were the most comfortable sport bikes I rode. I didn't even both riding the Daytona, just sitting on it made it feel like a piece of shit.

I think you'll feel pretty at home on a CBR1000 or 600, I found the 600 to be the most comfortable of them all - you could also maybe hold out for the new CBR600F that has clipons above the triple tree rather than back-breakingly below.

I almost signed on the dotted line after riding an 06 GSXR750 though, but in the end my sanity got the better of me - it was comfortable, but in the wide spectrum of other motorcycles out there, it wasn't THAT comfortable.

I just got back from riding with Wanpo testing the GSXR750 on the same route. He's dropping it back to Holeshot now. The bike 'fits' him better than the Triple did, but I'm not sure it gave him that wow, I must own this feeling.

All good advice from Gremlin. Wanpo's pretty much determined to get another sports bike, it's a case of testing lots of them to find the right one.

As a 6'1 person myself the gsxr750 and CBR600/1000 were the most comfortable sport bikes I rode.

Fark, was super tempted to sign away my earnings for the next x-years on a brand new GSX-R750. All my problems with it were minor and can be accounted for by changing how I ride slightly. (When standing at the lights, my right leg was resting against the engine casing)

Although that right peg gets DAMN hot, could almost feel it melting the sole of my boot. It wasn't even a hard ride...

Liked how effortless the power was, real smooth curve. Didn't smack you in the face with a power band like the 600s I've ridden. Has adjustable power settings, but why would I want anything but "The most power and response"

Suspension didn't transfer any little bump directly into my crotch like the daytona did.

I'm gonna call my test riding finished after I try the CBR1000 tomorrow. Will the GSXR750 be the runner up, or the winner?

I like the CBR better because it's easier on my legs, being a tall person. But I wouldn't be the best person to give opinions I guess, since I think any supersport bike has any road value due to our shocking roads. I much prefer sport tourers for a more plush ride!

you don't have to be a squid just cause you buy a gixer you know!

I have done a ridiculous amount of wet weather riding and gotten drenched to the core so many times I can't remember. One day we had been away on the bikes for almost a week (most days wet) that we decided to put on our togs on under our still wet gear from the day before, and went to the pools and then just chucked the gear back on over top afterwards... didn't make a bloody difference! haha

Cyclespot on the shore, dude called Grant
He was really reluctant to let me take it out, when I get back (after cutting the ride a little short due to weather) he's like "I was worried there for a little bit" and just a generally blasé attitude. Also he only really expressed interest in helping out in the slightest when I made that I had piles of cash and was looking for an impulse purchase.

Edit... hope someone there doesn't read this, but if they do. It would help if you made your potential customers feel valued. If only Holeshot next door had a CBR1000, I genuinely wanted to buy a bike off Rob (and what a beard)

They were worse the previous week. I knew the lights were way below where they needed to be (despite being given a wof right before I bought), so went to VTNZ to borrow their light unit. Set them to where the guys were happy, only to find they were incredibly high.

I think they are about right now, but yes... the lights are there to maintain daylight pace in the middle of the night, so I wasn't looking for the dullest lights I could find. Still, I know they are bright, so the driving lights and high beam were off, leaving the minimum on, low beam. Before I head south, another 4 lights will be fitted as well. :devil2:
