"It's better to ask for forgiveness after the fact, than for permission beforehand" ... or so the saying goes.
However, I find that forgiveness is not always forthcoming... the cold shoulder can be very chilly indeed and it's rather lonely in the dogbox, so I always check with the boss first, it's the safest policy! YMMV!

To add that Andrew took the lead first from town through to Clevedon and then a loop of Twilight Rd before the eats. First time for me riding through to Kaiaua at night, such a different experience. Also, I now have a greater appreciation of what it is like leading up front at night with no bikes to follow and also keeping an eye on everyone behind me.

But she asked?!
Hellzie, if you have a friendly VTNZ or similar they have the light boxes for testing lights, and ask if you can quickly check your adjustment. My local checks mine for free. Check your manual for how to adjust the beam (there should be knobs on the light somewhere).
Otherwise, find somewhere with a flat area against a white wall. Put your bike in front of the wall (metre or two away), then roll it backward. Low beam should slowly go down the wall, high beam will stay at the same height (as it should be level).

The low beam seems fine (if not a little too bright), but I think I need a brighter high beam. The spread was good, it was just really dull. It's like they're the wrong way round in brightness.

You have Buell lights from memory, so not the standard Hornet light. Not sure what bulb it uses, not sure how they work (one for high, one for low?) but if that's the case I'd be looking at the high beam, if it's one bulb checking the reflector, glass etc. Could it be possible that only high is misaligned? If the lamps run the same bulb, also possible the high beam one is a crap bulb...

Front or back is better than middle of the sammy.
I find I tend to want to ride faster at night, mostly because I cant see every little dark patch in the road, so I just get on with it.

Only one of the lights is on at any one time, thought that was mighty strange. You should be able to (with a bit of electrical know-how) fix it up so that the low beam is on at all times, then the highbeam comes on in addition. I'd probably also chuck an uprated bulb on the high beam side.

Thanks Cary for leading from Clevedon to Kaiaua. My headight's terrible and (having been near-blinded by yours in the past!) I figured you were well-placed to light the way :sunny: Time to add a +50 to my bike methinks.
Heh, leading at night, you can see why some of us like to go TEC instead.
Also, now that I'm more familiar with some of the more recent arrivals to the swarm ride, next time we'll just overtake (safely!) any cages holding us up.
I've added the Clevedon pub's number to my phone... call ahead in future to let them know hungry bikers are on the way so don't close the kitchen while we're still riding Twilight Rd

Well Baffa and I have finished the morning hornet swarm ride  Went up to Waipu via 16, on the way up, we stopped at the look out and had a great chinwag with some retired yank airforce guys. Last day of their tour around NZ and some great stories.
Plenty of twisties and gravelly bits to make things interesting, some plonkers who love to drive with half their vehicle over the center line as well!
I got to play on Baffa's sweet new ride, a nice fireblade, which was a joy to go back home on 16! (Of course, Baffa had to endure riding my Predator! :innocent:)
Played around with a car driver who thought he was a hot shot rally driver, quite amusing when another bike overtook all of us! Baffa got into the spirit of things when he finally overtook him with ease over a long line of cars. I'm sure he will have fun relating the tale later to you all! (dang, he's also doing the evening ride meet as well! lucky lad!)
Was really really really good to have a bit of a ride after being bikeless for 35 days! :sunny: Have fun y'all!

It was wierd hopping on a hornet after the blade. You really do need to make it scream to make it accellerate. Defo see the appeal but still go the vtrs! Thanks Timmeh and Hellzie
In other news, I was hoping to sit the test early next week. Since they're so booked out, I have to wait a month
Its a screamer... kicks ass in the twisties!! :D And has more BHP than a 250 VTR! :headbang:

Not knocking Hornets at all. Especially not in this company
I've just never ridden a bike that needed that much revving.
The VTR would happilly accellerate from low revs, and wasnt bad for hills, but the hornet probably doubles the revs, which I wasnt used to. After the blade it is a bit of a novelty to rev that much and not be breaking the speed limit.

Double the cylinders, so it makes sense.

Sounds like a few are keen to meet at 4.30? Then we can meet up with the others at 6.30? The 4.30 crew will just have to make sure we stick around the Auckland region is all. Where and when do the later crew want to catch up?

Good meeting some new faces and putting names to them! Was good to see people deciding for themselves what to do and where to ride! A small group went to eat first and then rode out to Port Waikato via Whitford and some other back roads! Just the occasional possum, but fortunately none going under any wheels!
Just one mad bugger towards the end who was trying to race us to the onramp near the Bombays!
Plenty of bugs on visors, the usual quick chit chat and we rode back via roads that minimised motorway travels!
I hope the other group informs what they got up to! (we'll plan further ahead to make sure we can all ride together - just some bellies needed to be filled! :innocent:)

There was dissension in the ranks as soon as we left... With some pub crawlers insisting on riding first, then eating, so they headed off north for a ride, while half went to eat straight away

I gave Warhammer up years ago, it's an addictive hobby that costs a fortune to feed the habit. And having a family means less time to pursue geeky hobbies anyway, so mainly get my fix from PS3 games these days. No gluing, painting, travel or setup time involved. Just turn on and start playing.

Great ride south side on Monday night, as usual GI Joe took us on a winding trek all over the countryside finishing up in Port Waikato. Lots of open road, no traffic and considerably warmer than last time we trekked out there mid-winter so made for a good night.
