Not putting an air cooled bike in auckland city traffic. And I don't find the roads out there particularly interesting to ride anyway ;/

so your the selective one huh. its all good, you don't have to ride with us... but i have no idea where we are going, so if i make it in time, then i will just ride whereever the others are going. I actually found my little 250 aircooled suzuki didn't heat up in town as much as my gixxer... that thing hates standing still at traffic lights... it has the desire to ride ride ride! hehe ;)

250 GSX = 140kg dry.

XJ650 = 230kg dry.

Sorry I forgot both of my bikes are 650 hehe.

It's just that I lane split every second day on that blasted motorway to go see SWMBO, so when I feel like riding, I'm much more inclined to just go a few hundred metres out my back door rather across the city to inferior roads hehe.

/edit. PS. Part 3 uploading as I type!

Well the soufside roads are varied, plenty of combos and the great thing is how its interlinked with more great twisties.

Next monday will be moar night riding practise for those who need to experience bug splatter, the smell of fresh ground manure, farmers on tractors tending their fields ... etc ... :msn-wink:

oh yeah... sounds interesting, but due to the fact that i will be on full security clearance by then, i will most likely be making up for the past two weeks and trying to actually get some work done, so may be absent from that ride as will still be in the lab. Ill let ya know closer to the time... but if you tell me where we ar going it may entice me to leave work in time!?

DAMMIT! Was all set to get out of work at 3pm, on time for once, but nnnnnoooo.... *rolls eyes*
only just got home dammit... might actually sneak out and see if i can find you guys down mission bay... or i might have some dinner and sulk

hahaha... just seen the map you drew for the same time... it felt like that in my head!
And get off the grass.. that gixxer flew past you, then the rider had the thought... "ive never been on this road, maybe this is a little silly" and so didn't continue to accelerate - at which point the little old hornet slowly gained on her - bet you were ringing the tits off her though!!!
And then on the second straight, don't blame the gixxer... blame the bloody cars coming in the opposite direction!

Yes... im very defensive of my wee gixxer!

I was just a bit slow off the mark at the start, once you dropped back in front of me i was stickin with ya fairly well. My poor little deary wanted to stretch her legs just that liiiiiiiiittttttle bit more... not enough to pass ya, but enough that i had to ease off to stay behind ya. Still had revs to burn tho :bleh: (and yes, i'm very defensive of my wee Hornet )
i had rolled off on the second bit too, i'd had my fun, and i wasnt sure how effective my brakes would be from that sort of clip (VERY, as i found out when i gave them a squeeze to see )

Hang stuff above your dehumidifier, dries overnight. Gloves are always wet and cold though...

Works well indeed. The other trick if you ride to work in the rain is to stick your gloves on the top of a CRT monitor... just MAKE SURE they've stopped dripping first! :o (and no i didnt do it, a workmate did once tho... BOOM!)

i was thinking the same myself, till i tried the ol' trick...
next time you're gonna leave her parked up for a few days, whack a cable tie round the throttle and brake lever, so it holds the brake lever in fairly firmly. Leaving the brake fluid under pressure for a while helps all them little micro-bubbles in the system come out of solution, group together, and float out of the system... or so the theory goes... all i know for sure is it made a world of difference to my baby!

Yeah i'd heard it before, then GIJoe mentioned it, so figured oh yeah, i'll give it a go i guess, not expecting much. Got on her after 4 days sittin on the brakes, WOAH! man she was much better, and consistent over a ride too (i had had problems with varying response across a period of time). Probably gonna fully drain and replace the fluid soon tho just to be sure.

most likely... hence why i was thinkin of going braided before i did that little trick. Mate of mine reckoned he could hook me up with a braided line for the hornetto for 60 bucks from a wrecker mate, could inquire if you are interested... dunno how much i'd trust him tho...

Will probably do it spur of the moment one afternoon this week, will see how i go tho.

Well, good ride tonight! I got home after riding with PirateJafa around the Whitford-Maraetai loop so he could ride onto Kaiaua! :niceone:

The meet up was good, HungusMaximus turned up first to drop off some library books! Anyhow after the usual gabfest about .. bikes! We rode off and did a short version of the wet ride from yesterday!

So bikes aplenty made their way up No Tree Hill and Mt Eden once again! Mad sheep, intimidated dogs and slow cagers was the order of the day. Saw rie on the way to Mission Bay, was wondering if she was going to do a U-ey - but I think we left her after going through the lights to Remmers.

Quick blat to the St Heliers GP and down to BK mission bay for a feed and some sundaes! Usual bollock talking and everyone that needed to scarper did so then!

So a good night had by all, urban mayhem riding was the order of the day and good company, stories and the usual bike pr0n fest.

Spotcha for the next ride out!

New Zealand Herald: Wednesdy 26th November, 2008.

Unknown Swarm blight on Posh Auckland Suburbs.

This morning, reports are coming to light of a massive swarm beginning in Inner City Auckland, and then heading towards the expensive suburbs of Remuera and St Heliers.

Eyewitnesses described loud screaming and buzzing sounds as Hornets invaded, some bystanders also describe an odd blue halo eminating from one Hornet in particular.

So far, there have been no reports of damage, although several very attractive woman have been admitted to hospital after the Hornet Swarm after party got out of control - the women have all been diagnosed with tachicardia, in other words - racing heart rates from meeting GiJoe and Madbikeboy in person.

More news as it happens.

Snap. I do rather like the pumpkin striping metaphor you alluded to! As for the menagerie, you know I am a treacher of fine well bred animuls! They vary in colouration, size and disposition. Some smell quite badly, others perfumed and just as nauseating. Intelligence varies as does their attempts to communicate. Usually grunts, gleeps, urghs and mehs are evinced.

They can be of devious mind and low cunning, apt to laziness and other attention wandering diversions. Hard to sheperd yet they are quick to herd and also turn on itself and devour its own.

There are days where I would like to euthanise the herd or some spot culling with terminal results. The end product is ambigiuous, the payoff uncertain. Hours are long and effort is much. It does not pay to care too much since affection is seen as a weakness and they will pull down the ringmaster in short span.

Cruelty, mixed with a dispassionate sense of watching bacteria grow on a petri dish is the order of the day. Repeat daily.

Right. Where's my motorbike so I can get out of this place. If it's the last thing ever I do. Gotta get outta this place, theres a better life for me ... and you!

Well, sorry to Badger8 and Banzai who were texting me yesterday! I was off on a pootle up norf to kerikeri and visiting some places I hadn't been in a whiles! :ride: Got soaking wet going up through to Whangarei, but just rode a bit quicker to dry out! :sweatdrop :scooter:

Explored a few roads out and about kerikeri and then had a subway with a motorcycling enthusiast (normally eat subways in Whangarei ) and then a quick ride home. Funnily enough I got home quicker than heading out (life is grand when there are no cagers sharing those lanes of freedom!)

For a wee while going to Wellsford, caught up and followed a housetruck that was just stomping it. Took up both sides of the road and he (I assumed it was a male driver) was booking it! :gob: Very impressed with the driving skills. There were some absolute plonkers who were ignoring the pilot vehicles (two out in front!) and then realising the doom that was approaching them had to suddenly evasive to the side of the road :oi-grr:

Eventually, they pulled over where there was passing room and I tootled off on my merry way. Big ups to Caltex for being the servos that were there when I needed more go-gas!

Hmmm damn. 18K service and some new rubber needed now! :msn-wink:

Actually, MBB commented on the cute rider on the mighty Kwaka. Get it right, hope you don't teach like this. NCEA aside. :)

Rie, I was disappointed to miss out on meeting you and GSXRTrace (who is the perfect woman, I mean, she rides a Gixer); between you and GiJoe, the intellectual average of this site is dragged up by at least a couple of points.

oh boys ya missed out... me and Rie were at an all girls fix it lesson (although it was major basics as to how to care for bike in general - general knowledge stuff, as it was the first one of many I believe). :bleh:
I am very pleased to hear someone likes me and my Gixer! I might just have to meet you! :msn-wink: haha
So how come soooo many turned up to the one ride I didn't go to.... did you all know i wasn't going and so made changes to schedules to make sure you rode and avoided me? :crybaby:

I don't know if there is a hornet swarm on tonight, but im at the safety thing tonight and we cant leave the mall til after 8 due to safety of the public.... bloody hoon motorbikers!
So if there is one, maybe can meet after that?

The way Toto rides that Hornet of his, he's got a big enough set not to worry...

Is there a Swarm tonight?....................?

Alas, real life has caught up to me, many chores neglected and domestic duties mean I must do the minimum to keep things ticking along! :pinch: Of course, that doesn't mean others have different ideas! :msn-wink:

That was true, we heard that you weren't coming, and decided to ride. But not out of churlishness or lack of social grace, but instead because none of us are worthy in the presence of such skill on a scoot.

A mall ride, starting at a mall near you? I have to get out of the house tonight, and if I ride alone tonight I'll be struggling to behave responsibly.

As for lessons on mechanical stuff, now you and Rie are trained specialists in the art of disecting scoots, you can both come visit my workshop and assemble my k5 600 race bike - a grand moniker for a pile of broken bits.

Sorry to disappoint, but i think Rie would agree... neither of us are trained specialists! But from the sounds of things, if your assembling a bike, you know far more than we do!

I was engaged once, so I have a post-graduate diploma in kiss ass... Can i try a sexist joke? What's the difference between a terrorist and a pissed off woman with PMS? You can reason with a terrorist...

Manukau? The outer edges of reason and civilisation, beyond that point the edge of the world, and the fall into oblivion from the sharp edge.

So, an 1830 start at the hallowed hall of knowledge, then food at the burger of murder. Then a ride to Manukau.

Your taxpayers dollars help pay for the lease of modern technology to ensure 21st learning can take place in learning environments.

Once learners have been assigned appropriate learning activities and have commenced on task, that usually leaves windows of opportunities for laissez faire postings of eclectic and winsome nature.

My workboots have been giving my feet hell this week, and a few badly placed itchy bites and excessive time spent in riding boots probably hasnt helped...
Last night i had an itchy as hell foot, and apparently i kept scratching it with my opposite heel in my sleep. I awoke this morning to find a big raw patch on the top of my foot, and have spent the day in agony at work. So methinks i'll be off the bike for a couple of days :weep: Now that y'all come back out of hiding... *mutter grumble* :p

you wanting to bleed to get rid of air bubbles, or replace the fluid entirely?
The first is pretty quick and fairly easy, the latter is a little more involved and a fair bit more time consuming.

Well that was entertaining as a night goes for me, the comings and goings of the various KBers and personalities were all over Auckland tonight! Biker mayhem indeedy! :devil2:

Waited till 7pm and then we rode up to Murder Burger ... only to find out rie just wanted the stickers! Well, after a great feed and nosh up care of MBB, endless texts with no coherent game plan, rie, MBB, Donor and I pootled off to Manukau to tee up with Maverick. Tried to find the others, but they had gone back to Mission Bay  :slap:

Just remember, if you want to make a friend of MBB - give him caramel ice cream! :msn-wink: I played ninja warrior on rie when she was left alone in the mall (dangerous that! :gob:) and generally looked strange with filthy biker scum clothing. And rie with her large padded shoulders (heck, she had to carry her helmet since it would show why she was wearing large, padded shoulders!)

Anyway, missives from Banzai et al were all good and eventually when MBB headed home (due to night and becoming pumpkin like), Donor needed shut eye time and eventually there was just Maverick and rie and I heading back to Auckies.

I turned right towards Mission Bay after rie left and I met the crew at Reef's Bar. A good yarn and suddenly an impromptu ride through the St Helier's GP and Whitford-Maraetai was on! :woohoo:

Good to see the group riding well and keeping to their own pace. I was on lil'ol'hornet so it felt like I was going a zillion miles a hour (even though it was a sedate pace and riding to the conditions).

Stopped in Clevedon to have a last natter (World of Warcrafting was a priority after the ride!) and from there a quick blat to the moronway.

Thanks everyone for a great riding night! Jeez, I'm turning into a social butterfly, flitting between groups and latching on for the next ride (:o in this case, generating it through group pressure! :innocent:)

Swee and Banzai, good to see you at the end eventually! :msn-wink:

Freud wrote about this, it's called Gixer Envy. It's really complex and it involves something called an Edipus complex, but what it boils down to is the jealously and longing that they have for our far, far, far superior machinery is the driver for them to mock.

Can we all be friends without assuming anything here?

Did I mention that I'm sworn off women and that I'm becoming a Monk??

If you don't know my number and thinking of going, private message me and ill let ya know.

Those of you coming on the ride tomorrow (northland loop)... see you there!!!

Spare me a thought, oh faithful few, for alas I will be festooned with paintbrush and sanding implements (unless I forever want a building site for a house...). That sad noise you'll be hearing as you ride those lanes of freedom is me quietly sobbing.

lol toto, the seacrets herd got you too? there is no way i am spending $89 for cuticle oil when even coverage of auckland malls gets my nails done for free :D

Actually TOTO kinda asked for it, the guy was putting lotion on girls' hands and TOTO went up and said hey don't discriminate, do me too!

And he offered us the pack for $79, that's a whole $10 off!

I have three really close girlfriends who have kids - so I grabbed all the kids (and dragged the parents along too) down to the Mairangi Bay christmas parade. Was an awesome couple of hours - kids are fun to hang out with. Not so sure about the nappies etc, or the bit where you can't hand them back (when they're wet, screaming, smelly, or all three at once).

If I ever have kids (a big IF given I'm un-marriable apparently), then it'll be dirt bikes, then track bikes, then... And if I have a daughter, she won't be allowed to date until she's 30 - and no biker scum even then! LOL! (I love being biker scum).

oh aren't you nice... hanging with the kids. suck it up thought, change those nappies! I have a 4 month old nephew, and love having him all day to hang out with (but that includes changing nappies... its all part of it). BUt you missed a good ride yesterday by doing so!

I think my dad was quite happy for me to be into bikes and riding at age 15... cause was begging him to go for a ride at weekends rather than begging to go out to town and gawk at boys! haha

Hello Hornets, reading this thread I can't help but wonder if you've spent too much time buzzing round the honey pot - if you know what I mean.

Shame that there are no swarms down here, I've been the the only one out of 40+ bikes at the Canterbury WNR's, but I see a few around when in the car.

Great bike, very happy with it. Although the bars coulds be straighter, they angle in too much for me, and would be good to have a gear position indicator. Aside fom that - all good. It seems that many use the renthal ultra lows as a replacement, so am considering getting some of these. Anyone using them?

Thanks for the rep GI, I only figured out what that means tonight. Take it easy, cheers.

The sheer joy I could feel emanating from them had me fair touched to the soul! Motomail, Cycletreads was visited and then a trip to Mission Bay, back home to tee up with zeocen via the St Heliers GP and through Whitford to Maraetai.

X-Whatsit caught up with us for Yum Char in the city, a short scoot through Auckland Central and then time for some Milk Tea with pearl in ye olde fine asian establishment!

Just got home and Angel has a beaming smile and the body language that only a biker can show when they have been denied riding for some time!

Hmm considering my Big Ol'Hornet is now 2500km over its 18000km service ... :pinch: :slap: And its been booked in for next Wednesday ... I don't think it would be good to rock up and say "oh by the way, its at the 24000 km service interval as well now..." :o

lil'ol'hornet is being ridden by AngelKwan, so I think I may have to trot out Daisy or Betsy now! Oh the pain of it all :innocent:

Damn, but its hard for me to stop riding long enough to allow the bikes to cool down!

Well I went for a nice ride in the gorgeous sun after work, stopped by a mates before going to get a junk food dinner where toto turned up! :2thumbsup Thanks for showing me so many rides guys, was great to be able to get out and have a good ride after work... but justin we have to do a few more rides on south side to untangle the mess you have lodged in my brain!

There won't be any riding for me today, have to get packed up and do final clean of my apartment after work, before heading home, and also going out for dinner. In addition, Im now hoping to get out of town at about 2pm tomorrow and shoot down SH1 just to make the trip as fast as possible to get home before the shop closes!

So enjoy your riding for the next few weeks boys, and have a great xmas and new years! See you next year! :wavey:

Well you mean you haven't checked out the maps I made on google with my annotations on them? :oi-grr: I went to all that trouble too! :pinch:

Not to worry, what I will do next time is to do a basic loop and then discuss, then another addition to the loop etc until finally you know all those complex variations and doolallie along them all by yourself one day!

Enjoy the trip down, I would have joined you on the Big Ol'Hornet, but its well over its 18K service mark and I need to keep it down below 21K (at the moment its on 20500km! :innocent:) Figgers, I just can't help stop pootling around! :sweatdrop

Oh yes, Daisy and lil'ol'hornet and Natalie were all out on a little pootle to Pukekohe to Mr Motorcycles sale, Angel got herself some cheep cheep glubs, I drooled and laid ownership on the Kawasaki that is on raffle (its mine, mine! My prreeeeciiouuussss), zeocen rode over as well since he clean forgot until I reminded him by text.

Suffice to say before all this could happen, I decided to take Daisy, the mistress of RZ250 goodness. X-Whatsit and I were trying to start Daisy up and took out the plugs etc. Turns out it was bone dry of the go-gas! Pinched some of the lawnmower supply and wahay! Started first kick. Clouds of smoke, the ring-a-ding-ding and the piquant aroma that was emanating from her pipes. Also on the way back from Puke, she also decided that she had the pip with me and demanded some 2-stroke oil as well.

Daisy, the RZ250 is a demanding mistress! :sweatdrop

All toot sweet, X-Whatsit and Angel and I went to Dorkland and sat in a late hour chinese eatery and had, spicy tofu, combination meat and steamed fish - guzzled down with chinese tea and the obligatory asian themed drinks.

Now, what to do tonight? I think I need to catch up on some maintenance on the fleet and then go for a ride! :shifty: :devil2:

Well, I've finally stopped riding today ... :o ... I felt like a ride, so gassed up and headed south (as you do), a lovely day so did the Coro and went out to Hot Water Beach, roadworks saw sticky bitumen gravel attaching themselves to the Big Ol'Hornet :pinch:

Then I pootled around the rest of the Coro, only saw 1 other biker coming up the twisties from Coromandel town and then a dozen or so from Thames onwards.

Stopped at Kevfromcoro's place, but no-one home so tootled off and came back via Miranda-Kaiaua. TOTO texts me and it seems he's in the local area so we tee up and do the goat tracks for the SATNR (South Auckland Thursday Night Ride). Once we done the Ardmore Quarry rd/Hunua/Twilight Road/Ridge Rd circuit and back to Clevedon, saw the lads from the real SATNR parked up! Took a loud booming voice to get us to pull around ... and a bit of a yak and the usual kibbitizing ensued.

Anyway TOTO took point and we tootled off ...

Headed down Maraetai-Whitford way to Botany and we catch the Xmas themed house and then we split up to make our merry way home (which I did via Whitford :devil2:)

hmmm now my Big Ol'Hornet is now 3000km overdue on its 18000km service  :o I had booked it in for next Wednesday and it was shy of 18000km last week ...

Don't encourage him, and I don't think John (head mech) would be impressed.

Besides he'll probably take the loaner to see Cape Reinga or something (or go home to get another bike), miss the call the bike is ready, and miss more riding time on it.

As it is, I am now riding lil'ol'hornet ... yesterday I rode to Toe-Ranges where DMNTD and I chin-wagged for a while before he threw me bodily onto a Triumph Speed Triple to test ride.

Suffice to say, I want one.

Then merrily I made my meandering way down Pyes Pa Road after dropping the Triple back to Dumpty and met up with Angel at Rotovegas (any excuse for a ride!)

Had din-dins there with her and then I rode back up to Dorklands, I dunno what those guys were doing in Cambridge but when I rode through the 5-0 were out in force. Breath tested and even had to take me lid off! :oi-grr: He said something about "lots of pissed bikers about". :stupid:

Quick blat home and ta bed, ready for Westpac Toy Run today! :woohoo:

Well, yesterday rwh was up from Wellington (Hurricanes!) and txted me for a meet and greet and ride. Any excuse for a ride? You bet your sweet bippy!

Meet at the McChuck stop at Greenlane, exchange pleasantries and we do a quick ride down the moronway to Takanini BP. I nip home for a quick exchange of gear bags and off to Kaiaua we pootle.

Damn nice it was. rwh rides the twisties well and we are tucking into a feed of fush n'chups! Funny thing was we ended up with a double order of rwh's and no sign of my mushroom toasted sammie! :pinch:

Anyhow, it does turn up! So all is good. rwh took point back, funny thing is I was going to get him to do it anyway! :devil2: We had a good chat before hand, talked of bikes and crazy things.

We get back to Clevedon and then I take him back to the moronway via Maraetai-Whitford and then zip along the back of Botany. Somehow rwh forgot the fact if people ride with me, they end up pootling to parts unknown! :innocent: I did tell him it was only 150km or so and I promised not to end up in Dargaville or Cape Reinga or any such place like that!

I was riding Daisy ... and the only way this counts as a Hornet post was because I saw a Hornet riding along on our travels! :stupid:

An yes, Daisy was trying to kill me. No engine braking to speak of, always wanting to go faster into corners and the powerband wanting to spit me off!

 Two-strokers. That's why we loves them so!

When I got back in, the lil'ol'hornet and the Big Ol'Hornet had big grins on their faces as they finally got a chance not to be ridden for one day and have a kip in! :innocent:

rwh, I'd ride with you again anytime, good riding mate!

I have just come in the door from Donor's abode, from a ride out the twisties home via the 'Tron. I was visiting the most resplendent and enervating persona that is Quasi and his paramour.

I am now a proud recipient of a KNOX backpack and have added another item to my panoply of equipment.

Now, for tomorrow I sense a ride out to replicate the SATNR. The meeting point shall be initially at the Library 6.30pm. Then we shall swarm to BP Takanini and from there, I shall initiate all Padawans into that order as the MASATNR (Monday Attendees of the Souf'Auckland Thursday Night Ride). If any are closer to BP Takanini, feel free to congregate there at 7pm.

Come one, come all - it shall be at a sufficient pace for those new to the area.

If that is not in congruence or synchronicity with others, then I open to all and sundry for suggestions!

Well, I rode it there :P Yes I'm a little crazy, got there bang on 9 and laid the smack down... or at least tried to. 'Mike' as he will be known, is a "Good Cunt" and it was very hard to lay the smack down when he was busting his balls trying to get everything perfect, within minutes it was road worthy once again and even told me to come back after work, after hours so he can personally put it up in the work shop and balance the wheels, check everything and give it a once over for me.

I for one put this down to dodgy hex nuts rather than dodgy workmanship (going by the quality of the nuts he replaced them with).

So depending on when I can ride away after work I may catch you guys afterall! BP Takanini at 7pm? I may *JUST* make it.

Well I was riding Miss Daisy tonight, caught up with zeocen at Mt Eden Motorcycles and he got his ER6 sorted, I helped out a lady on a Hyosung put her tailight back in, then we pootled to the Library to see who would turn up.

Banzai only! We ate a bit and drank a bit to see who else would turn up. Nope, just a text from TOTO who shot pass the city straight to the BP Takanini!

Anyhow we rock up and there is TOTO and Chisanga as well. Excellent.

A quick squirt around the goat track and hunuas and Chisanga went back home, the rest of us carried on and we did some spannering at my humble abode.

zeo helped me change a house light bulb (cue : "How many bikers does it take to change a bulb?" "Who blardy cares? Smash the place up!"), Banzai did some tinkering on his Ginny and TOTO tightened his chain up.

The lads then had a go on playing on Daisy and my lil'ol'hornet, everyone was goosey-gassy with two-stroker smiles of goodness plastered on their faces  Complaints of sticky throttle and Daisy trying to kill them notwithstanding!

Banzai and TOTO also got to see Betsy started and smoking in fine form! Went to chez BK's for a late night snackies and everyone toddled home!

Great ride guys, scenic pace and safe - Good on Chisanga for getting back into the swing of things at his own pace!
