Meh it's conveniently supplied by work but I wouldn't choose to buy an Apple product.
Massively over-hyped, over-rated, over-priced, and deliberately hamstrung by Apple.
Was merely explaining why the photos are crappy, they were taken on an iphone.
Of course the other reason they're so crappy is that dude with the 85 on his bike :bleh:
I know, taking the piss.
Also, yeah that 85 guy, what a douche.

The rolling motorcade one is cool, you could tell the bike cops were enjoying themselves.
Don't quite get the significance of the first one

I'm forgoing my weekly brunch at The Shack to try the Wharf Store endorsed by botany Honda (presumably because the owner has a familiar looking Fury parked outside!).
Happy to say the food is good, but I had a better time because said owner came out to have a yarn about bikes with me. So now we have two great eateries in Maraetai. The Shack would be my fav for food but service of Maraetai Wharf is a clear winner!
Now, to see if I can ride home with such a full belly.

Next time you're there tell them to stay open later on a Monday. We rode through Maraetai looking for eats the other night but everything was closed so we grabbed takeaways in Clevedon instead.

Times from round 2 are up on the net:
Qualifying (http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=2137803)
Race 1 (http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=2137804)
Race 2 (http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=2137805)
Race 3 (http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=2137806)
Quite happy with a few things that I noticed;
-Placed better than I qualified (in the races my bike didn't break)
-Was faster each time I went out (by about a second each session)
-In the last race I'm on pace for 11th place

A penny for your thoughts.
I just got the motorcycle Dr to service my bike, and he pointed out a few things that need doing.
Steering head bearing (Oh yay).
Front tyre needs doing
Rear tyre is 3 months old (Maybe 5000 kays or so) and is already looking pretty shallow.
The bike had the standard bridgestones on it when I got it (bt45 from memory), which seem like good tyres, if not an old design. I replaced the rear 3 months ago with some roadrunner or something orother tyre that the newer VTRs come with, but it doesnt seem to offer the best grip, and is clearly wearing pretty quickly.
Any suggestions for a decent tyre? I want decent grip, and a good wear rate. Doesnt have to be top of the range, hopefully upgrading the bike in 3 or so months.

Get Pilot Road 2s, I saw cycletreads had a good special on them the other day. Or 3s if you don't mind spending a bit more coin and want the extra confidence in the wet

+1 for the Pilot Road 2s. They've been really hard wearing on my gixxer for the daily commute and regular Monday night rides (400km+ per week). Plenty sticky enough for my riding style (or lack of style!). I did 20K+ kms on the rear before the squaring off demanded replacement. I had another PR2 put on, would've gone for a PR3 but the 2 was a lot cheaper. Done about 14K on the front so far with a fair amount of tread still remaining.

Problem is the road 2 and 3 do not come in the VTR size for the rear tyre. The VTRs are going great with some Pirelly Sport demons

Finally got around to putting Shiver mirrors on mah Hornet. I can see again! I don't have to contort myself into yoga positions just to see past my arms anymore. And they suit the bike so much more than average square mirrors. Gives them a feeler look worthy of a Hornet.
Hooray !

Was interesting swapping bikes with Gale_Wolf ... it was squidtastic! Felt the sprotsrider burn towards Wellsford and was greatful for the bar food (yummy seafood basket!)
Gremlin and his portable sun machine masquerading as a german panzer was fun to see at night. A moving spot of daylight wending its way through the twisties! At one stage, I could see the road clearly ahead even though I was at the back!
A bit of drizzle and some gravel riding really made it an enjoyable outing. Thanks to everyone keeping it upright and I think everyone has learnt their lesson not to ask Gremlin about Beemer accessories!

Yeah, was a decent ride last night, but ended up being a bit later than I was hoping for, was completely knackered by the time I got home. I've had a case of saddle-butt after spending most of the weekend on the track, and the CBR's seat and relatively hard suspension wasn't helping.

Richard, that scumbag has one of those Crossrunners reserved for my next service, he's trying to wrangle another sale out of me! I'm not so sure though, I love my Hornet more than the day I got it! And those Crossrunners look like fatties in person, hard to figure out how well they'd go with all that weight.

My old man has been eyeing up those 2012 zx14rs, to trade in his 14. They are RIDICULOUS!! The bike has eaten the hayabusa bone stock. Doing 200+ on the dyno and sub 9s on the track all stock. I don't think he needs that much power :l

I went through something similiar last year. I was still on a restricted car license after years and years, and a police car was following me, saw my personalised plate, and decided to run it. Saw it was a restricted, and that it was 11 at night, so pulled me over. Gave me a small fine, but in addition to two prior speeding fines, would put me over 100. I couldnt delay the fine long enough, so I sat my full within a week of the fine and wrote in, and asked if there was an exception given my age and experience.
Still lost my license for 3 months =/

Got the steering head bearings done by George on Monday. Only problem was when he reattached the handlebars he put it too far foward, which felt a bit odd and left the levers too foward and the cable from the heated grip not smoothly clearing on the throttle side when you twisted it.
Tweaked it last night, man the new bearings make a nice difference, roller instead of ball. Looking foward to a blat on the weekend.

We go out for the fun of riding bikes, not going fast. A new face would be more than welcome.
Since we generally don't decide where we're going until we meet at the library, whether you need a full tank can vary.

Well good to see the ride is still alive. Here in China, being a motorcyclist really is a life and death choice! The authorities impound and destroy bikes when they get their hands on them. Being winter here, all the bikes have these woollen mitts on the handlebars and usually trhe rider has something warm draped across their laps!

Plenty of scenery to be taken in with great views specially after the crap weather we have had the past few days. :ride: had a nice feed at Kaiaua fish and chip shop with plenty of bike talk. After dinner took the nice backroads through Hunia, Clevedon and Twilight road to arrive at Momo Tea and continue with the bike related dribble. Nek minute 12:30 am lol

Nah, was all good. Don't feel inclined to need to keep up with the rider infront of you if you don't feel comfortable at whatever speed they're doing, you were going really well, and if you felt comfortable the whole ride then you won't have any problems getting rid of that L-plate.
Was a good ride, great to see new faces. I apologise for my actions on a certain uphill sweeper, you weren't meant to see that. Also Toto, I shouldn't have enjoyed that motorway onramp as much as I did.

I just had to share this somewhere... apparently cyclists (one, on the very side of the road) are now enough to help people crash... good on them for not treating that corner like a race track huh? Oh, and the faceplant at least needs a good score.
zeocen
6th January 2012, 07:21
I've been subscribed to that guy for a while and the comments in the videos never cease to amaze me. One recent one, someone was telling the crashed rider what he did wrong and how to fix it for next time, and someone came along saying, "rah rah rah, motorcyclists are meant to crash, it's what we do, heal up brother and try again!" and it was the top voted comment with like 60 votes.
Onto a different topic, I found a rural road out these ways yesterday and I have to say - I can't ride for shit anymore :( I don't know what it is, on the zx14, which should be harder to throw around given its weight and geometry, is so much more easier to ride than my Hornet. I feel more in tune in the sports/sports tourer position than the naked position. It sucks, because I love my hornet so much but when I go into corners it just never feels right, I never get "that" feeling, you know?
I think I just need someone with considerable knowledge and skill to ride behind me and see what's up and help me adjust better. I'm always trying to find different positions on the bike when I'm approaching the corner, gripping the tank, putting force on the pegs, all this different crap whereas on like, say the VFR I would just corner and it would gel so sweetly with me.
It also could be that all I've done for the greater part of this year is commute back and forth to work, on a straight road that I've lost confidence on any bike other than the ones I'm very familiar with.
balls :~(

6th January 2012, 11:16
Happy NYs all.
Had my first accident about a week ago, hit a big patch of oil mid corner, few scrapes to the bike and myself =/
Like Wanpo said awhile back, I found it knocked a bit of confidence off my cornering, so I went for a 600k ride to rotovegas and back yesterday to check out a bike, and found the old cornering habits returning ^_^
Zeocen you probably need to spend more time on the bike. I really enjoyed being on the road, cruising through the gorge yesterday, between that and the hunuas the previous day really resparked my enjoyment of riding.

You've sat on it and I'm pretty sure you said the seat height was ok for you... so if you're over 25 and have a current 6F then you're insured for it.
You're welcome to ride it but will have to wait for another time though, I'm keeping the K's down this week since it's overdue for a full service and chain/sprocket replacement. Got it booked in for next week. Meanwhile I'll keep adding K's to GIJoe's bikes instead :devil2:

Yip, good ride. The esteemable Mr Toto taking over organising and leading duties in Mr GiJoe's absence and he has been taught well. Led out through Scenic Drive, detouring down all manner of roads, to make us late to Wellsford, so we could only have the bar food. Tried to insist we were still in time... apparently I can add time keeping to his list of "I'm not from around here" excuses.
Lanky Bastard has the LEDs installed, looking really nice. Next job now (having seduced him into more lights) is teaching him about reflective tape :msn-wink:

Definitely not. They're disgustingly reliable and horribly cheap to service. Toto has done over 130,000km? on his, mine is about to tick over 100,000km, and GiJoe's is somewhere around 86,000km I think. I even had to replace the front wheel bearings end of last year for the first time. Bloody terrible. Minor services are about $200, major is $300, and you even have to shod it with tyres every 20k ish. Even worse is that they're discontinued and hold their value instead of depreciating, so picking up a bargain is rare. Someone (lots of them) must love them or something ;)
Anyway, they don't have much of a personality, as such, that a lot of other bikes do, but I've grown to love mine. It's like a puppy that's happy doing whatever you want to do.
