That is an acceptable excuse, and an absolute gem from xkcd. Also, we need some swords to go with our swivel chairs...

Sure, I won't be able to ride it much this month, go for it... oh wait, you can't! :bleh: that's right, I'm the responsible one that hasn't lost my licence! :bleh:

"It's like a tiny, loud, light, angry, stiff World Superbike racer, or a pukka 250GP bike. It's like no other supersport bike I've ridden – so raw, and more race than track."

"It feels every inch a track-ready racer, it steers quickly, gives loads of feedback for grip and the brakes are superb. It's fast, but revvy - a Daytona 675 or GSX-R600 have a lot more grunt and a far smoother throttle."

"The throttle response on the F3 can be a little snatchy and hesitant depending in which of the four power maps you're in."

Sounds like a little monster!!

you? responsible?

ha!

Damn straight I am! remember my licence doesn't have a single speeding ticket on it's record!

so I am going to be without a bike for a couple of weeks, some dickhead backed into the bikes at the shop today, another bike fell on mine, and mine hit the tarmac, so it's now being repaired... anyone want to help me beat on the guy? only reason i'm not screaming and pulling limbs off someone is cause the bike shop are fixing and replacing it all, and putting a new tank on it etc, so they have been really good, and appreciate that my bike was in great condition so are fixing it all without any questions

But I'm still more than a little angry tonight!

Woo, the new BMW S1000RR demo has arrived, and I'll be test riding said German beastie next week.

Quoting myself here for context:

...his bike's been parked up for a couple of weeks and needs the running gear turned over so I'll enjoy taking Cammy out for a lunchtime spin through Paremoremo/Coatesville tomorrow, whee!
Well, that ride didn't turn out quite as expected... my lunchtime blat through the twisties turned into taking the CBR1000RR in for its WOF instead <_<
Next time Wanpo, you dirty tease, I'll take Cammy out for a decent run through the twisties :scooter:

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA well that made me laugh tonight... thanks!

Yeah they know who hit it, the shop can take it up with him, but they are fixing my bike, so all good... just not quite what you expect when you go to pick it up from a service... don't like seeing my gorgeous baby like that. The tank could be fixed, but they offered to transfer a new one onto it, so I took that option, but told them i wanted the rest fixed up and replaced and they agreed. So I will wait to see what it comes out like.

Sacrificing to the Biker Gods was usually with Ixion's refrain "virgin white mice", but I go for an older, more old school approach and use liberal amounts of Petrol, Oil and Lubricants (known as POL). Also the ritual of "suiting up" when special ritualistic clothing is donned, usually entailing, head wear, coverage of the hands and the wearing of bovine skin (though synthetic replacements are also optionally used).

The insertion of a totem icon into a mechanical representation of an equine steed, aka "iron horse" resulting in IC (internal combustion), which propels the supplicant with an alacrity of velocity forwards.

Much is more in this sacrifices dedicated to the Gods of the Ride ... but that my padawan, is a story for another age ...

You're doing a good job scaring her aye Wanpo? So much so, it was pretty much the ol stalwarts of the ride tonight. Toto, GiJoe (+1), Sharry and I. 3 out of 4 are Hornets, which ain't half bad - plus all Hondas.

As for the ride... well, I'm a biker and all that, all about the ride and not the destination, but fuck that when it takes so long to get there they're no longer open for food (and you newbies can't understand why we eat first :weird:). Kaiaua closes at 8.30pm Mr Toto... you even knew that, but we left Mangatawhiri at 8.30pm.... Why I even trusted Toto to get it right I don't know... it's not even the first time he's left me starving in the middle of nowhere :weep: I took control of the ride from there and we made our way back to Auckland for some food at the Manukau Dennys, our saviour, who art open 24/7 :not: (been wanting to use that emoticon for a while )

Once taking control, we weren't overtaken by any more cars... a very traumatic experience I assure you... Some van tried to make me run off the road by flashing at me while on the motorway, but after speaking to the others, we're certain I was bang on 100kph. Flash was bright enough to be rather disorientating for a few seconds. I also concluded that I can see two fifths of fuck all on back roads with a tinted visor... where's my BMW lights. Got worse when there was no centre line on the road we got diverted down. I swear that wasn't my fault they closed the road

The surprising thing is that the supposed "old hands" on these rides, should already know about the foibles and peculiarities of the others! My girl and I purposedly ate before we came in order to "appease" the others who wanted to "ride first".

I funnily enough recalled how we used to do it the other way round, bikers bitched and moaned about empty bellies, when we did the eats first, they bitched and moaned about how it was cutting into riding time ...

Yesterday, we did the ride later and the food much much laterers! I could hear hungry bellies growling over the bike engines on the way to Dennys!

But, was good to have a wee ride to Kaiaua (been a wee whiles since I did it!) the low point was watching a car overtake each of us , the high points were : watching Gremlin do a mint wheelie, which if he rolled, crashed and burned, I would have waved the others on without stopping, Sharry showing off how much benefit she got from her Track day experiences, pulling into Kaiaua as they were closing it up and the trip back to Dennys with the attendant camera flashing, popo in the trees and the hot chocolate fudge cake! :woohoo:

Today's test ride, new demo bike BMW S1000RR :scooter:

About 10 minutes into the ride there was so much rain I could barely see anything. Rode past a Gixxer rider who'd pulled over and was sheltering under a tree. I had a brief chuckle to myself while thinking that guy should HTFU and then it rained even harder. Wearing a mesh jacket and thin summer gloves that were now all soaked with me also soaked inside them I decided then to take the bike back to the shop and take it out for a decent run another day when it's a bit sunnier :sunny:

ABS, shift assist, traction control, all the bells and whistles.

It wasn't set up for me of course, but I really felt like I was sitting on top of it. Super smooth, felt really light and nimble, and the body position seemed to me like I was leaning way forward, a sensation of being right over the front wheel. Then when I got back on my gixxer, I felt like I was sitting in the bike again, and it seemed like an aggro beast compared to the BMW.

It's a possible contender for the next bike, need to take it for a decent run yet.

It's a nice enough beast alright, but you won't be loving the servicing costs!, pity you didn't have a good day to give it a proper test ride, though I daresay the people at the shop won't refuse you riding it out again.

You are their target demographic after all! :msn-wink:

Zomga this site is slow today.
I like design of that bike, but it looks like a terror to work on.

I think the rides are best when there is a decent ride, then some chow, then another ride if people want to keep going.

That's how I did it, but I recall that people didn't like getting home around 2-3am! :innocent:

You can never please all the people, all the time.
At least riding for an hour or so then having dinner will mean everyone gets a little ride (the whole point I would have thought), and the foodies get their food without "enduring" a long ride beforehand. And anyone who is keen gets to keep riding late into the night.

Sportsbikes will always be a bit expensive to service due to their compact nature and all the fairings that have to come off.

Still, believe me, it could be worse, but yeah, it ain't as cheap as a Hornet, but I reckon it's worth it

Well to my credit, there's another black Street Triple that commutes down Glenfield Road, I only saw them go around the corner from a distance. (which is probably a good thing for you, since if I thought you looked like that rider, you'd be a large, I mean LARGE, dude)

True that. I've had it recommended to me by most shops that I remove the fairings myself beforehand to save cost. Some of my earliest services resulted in scratches and scuffs on fairings that definitely weren't there before taking the bikes in for service. I've always removed the fairings myself since then.

Hornet Swarm this week took the form of 2 x Hornets and 1 x VFR, plus too many tinted visors which limited night ride destinations so we took a trek out to visit GI Joe at the family takeaway in Manurewa.

GI Joe and his Dad put on a feast for us and provided some seating in the alleyway next door where we had an informal Hornet Swarm Urban Picnic. No one left hungry!

Big thanks to GI Joe and his Dad.

Any bike of choice is welcome. Sometimes there are many Hornets and other times... none at all.

Meeting place : Outside Auckland Public Library, Lorne Street, Auckland city.
Meeting time: 630pm. Usually everyone arranges to arrive between 6pm and 630pm to have a wee chat and then we all head off at 630pm. If someone is running late we do our best to meet-up with them later.

Some nights we head off and get a meal first, other times we ride for a bit then a meal and then more riding, other times the destination is also where we have a meal. Rides typically finish at round 11pm.

Ride goes ahead in most weather. Best to keep an eye on this forums on Mondays and see what the plan is. Numbers attending can vary from a couple of riders to maybe about 8 max.

Yesternight ride was all good, thanks to everyone keeping it upright and rubber side down on some damp patches! The view from the lookout was good and having hot food at the mid point is always good!

Apart from the rubberneckers heading to Westgate, the ride was obstruction free! Seems my sacrifice by wearing waterproof layers appeased the biking gods, I only got a light drizzle at the last moment heading into home base

Well, was a good night for a ride, gale_wolf was already waiting for me to turn up, nek minute, deadlytuna and sharry pops along and as we natter away, Darrell and his +1 on a large boat with wheels (XL650) was followed by Interceptor. Well, exercising my authorita as ride leader, I got the circus moving and we refueled in Botany. I nipped any conversations in the bud and we rode out to Whitford and Maraetai.

We bade gale_wolf and his dodgy guts farewell in Clevedon (he was a bit crook) and then quickly moved out to Kaiaua to get to the fush n'chippy before it closed. A spirited ride and we were easily within closing time, burgers, fish and chips were consumed with gusto and washed down with fizzy beverages. Sharry ordered a latte and let the image of filthy biker scum down!

There was tension in the air, it seems Interceptor and his crew were too posh to sit with the hoi-polloi! Getting airs metthinks! :oi-grr:

Anyhow, 9pm it was when we geared up and left, took the back way to Mangatawhiri and tuna man took the onramp home towards Mercer. The rest of us carried on a bit until we hit Mercer proper and I split up from them to take the long way home! :innocent:

Thanks for everyone keeping it safe and spot you all next time!

So far, two for two for making the eats places before they slammed the doors in filthy biker's faces! :niceone:

47 days left. You putting your rear seat on and coming for a swarm ride?

Well that isn't very long left! I dont have my pillion seat in auckland... and I have training monday nights so no swarming for me!

baffa
12th March 2012, 11:51
Let me tell you why I wont be swarming tonight.

Friday I did the Coro loop. Fantastic, almost ran off the road countless times gobbing at the view. 5-600 kays, keen for the Monday swarm.

Saturday I take the girlfriend out to Maraitai, Clevedon etc, and get lunch in Takanini before cruising home. Keen for the Monday swarm.

Sunday evening. The bike has spent most of the day snoozing, and Im relaxing after a busy day. A mate calls, and asks for a massive favour. Against my better judgement, I ask what.
Hes in Taupo with a few mates for a kayaking and rafting trip. The girl who was driving has had her bag stolen, including phone, and the key required to start their car. Because of the chip in the key, the only other key that will start it is in Auckland. Would I mind, at 7.30pm, picking up the key from her house in town, and rocking down to Taupo to drop it off?

Being an idiot, I said ok. After a bit of mucking around, I headed off. Past Hamilton, it started pouring. Really pouring. And it didnt let up the entire way down or back up. I was soaked completely through by the time I reached Taupo. The bastards, they never told me it would rain. Heading to and from Taupo the roads were constantly under construction, slippery, and I was flying blind with the rain, fog, and everything else. Kinda exhilirating really. Trucks doing their best to blind you, and knock you off the road, and water sploshing in your boots, tickling your bits, and turning your hands blue. Fun stuff.

To add insult, when I finally return to Auckland, they close the motorway, making me detour.
So when I got home at about 3.45 this morning, feeling mildly hypothermic, I decided against a ride tonight.

On the bright side, the bike did everything I asked of it and more. After something like 8 hours in the saddle in the rain.
Sure it would have been easier on a BMW adventure bike, or a Hornet, but where's the fun in that?

Ah, fun times. Back in my youth network play was all done over a 14.4 Kbps modem... laggy and kinda crap, but we thought it was awesome at the time!

Space Marine is single player only so multi player is online and GIJoe doesn't have a PS3 (although after he checks the game out that situation might change). So it's back to the earlier release of Space Marine Kill Team for a few rounds of 2 player split-screen co-op purging of heretics and xenos.

so was thinking for the plan for tomorrow. Maybe is meet up, cruise over and pick up some munchies and rock up for a biker movie night at ours. What do you guys and girls think ?

Sounds like a plan, unfortunately my girl's car is suffering from a case of collapsing rear shocks. Need to fix them up this evening! If I get them completed with time to spare, I can catch some of the movie!

Definitely keen, however the weather is crap so I will probably just drive over with some takeaways and meet you guys at your place.

Tuna: It's Lazybezerker.
Had a few funny games yesterday, good way to spend a rainy night.

I hope we're back to riding next week, I've almost forgotten how ugly you all are.

Still way better than the road in many places though.. Love the Taupo track, I think overall I prefer it to Puke. Still waiting to have a go on hamptons, no doubt that will take the number one spot in due course.
