Meeting place : Outside Auckland Public Library, Lorne Street, Auckland city
Time : 6.30pm ... usually leaving around 7.00pm

Well, it seems this is the 2nd inaugural ride of the hornets causing a little stir in the city!

I nearly didn't make this ride and typical since TOTO and I pre-planned it all! Anyhows, I managed to quickly ride out to Mission Bay and caught up with the crew at St Heliers ...

Where a couple of the lads were draining the one-eyed trouser snake! :o

Anyhows, TOTO, badger, musicman and shingo were already dossed down shooting the breeze about bikes when I pulled up and did a u-turn. Some oohing and aahing over me Big Ol'Hornet Bling LEDs and the usual hi-jinks for camera shots and we were off again!

Pulled up at the Shell on Quay st for some gas-gas and off to the 2nd part of the Bay to Wharf ride.

I missed out on the St Heliers GP (done at a sedately pace of course), but did the ride over the bridge to Norf Masif. Did some twisties and went to see if the gates to the mount was opened (it wasn't). Minor incident and no biggy and off we rode to Devonport Wharf, scooted past the bollards and parked on the wharf where we shot the breeze. Badger had left us at St Heliers 'cause he been snorting no-doze and the lack of sleep was catching up with him

Was a fine night for a ride ... and you know me, any excuse for a ride! :msn-wink:

great night had the hornet swarm, and it attracted VTR bugs and Raptor bugs too, so pretty pleased :D

Buzzed around st heliers GP again , then turned back and off to devonport harbour to see the city from the other side. Looked pretty good :D

GiJoe amazed all the fishermen with his blingtastic Big Ol'Ornet and it attracted the fish too. everyone is happier with some hornets buzzing around...

some picies ...

1. Swarm
2. Spot the ninja
3.what....what....whaaat... ? (shingo's bike is loud)
4.The Hornet Master
5. Blingtastic
6. Blingtastic 2

 Looks like the camera man was on P or sumthin'! One of the shots looks like the Big Ol'Hornet is about to jump into the drink! All shaweet, but I couldn't believe the amount of rozzers that were out and about tonight! :Police:

I think you guys must have stirred them up or something! :bash: :Pokey::Pokey:

gijoe's right Toto, some of those photos are shockers!

I felt kinda stink riding round some of the suburban areas making all that noise. I did my best to be quiet, but quiet is not in my bikes vocabulary.

If you guys head out west anywhere next week, you count on me being there :niceone:

Well thank you :)

I hope at some stage we can get someone with proper night photographic abilities to show me how its done

Always keen to learn new skills.

At least you wont get comments like "pics or it didnt happen" :)

edit: Pic 4 is blury because of the hornet buzzing I think..

You pansies - call that a "night ride"? You're still in the city! There's enough lights for it to be classed "daytime"!

Need to get out of the city - I usually head up Kawakawa way after I finish the night shift - Twilight Rd is much better when well after twilight. :niceone:

You should come join me on my late night pootles then! Heck not everybody is enthused doing hundreds of kays out in the middle of nowhere! :msn-wink:

Do the Gisborne Gorge at night, that is a cracker of a ride!

But for everyone else, this night city riding is fine enuff for them ...

SHAZAM!

A ninja tracks down the Hornets!
(Sorry for the awful night shots, it seems even with a decent camera I am awful at taking photos!)

1. Crazy chinese man trying to commit suicide on the road it seems, far be it by me to stop him, extra bike for me!

2. Choco's bike thought it would show up the bigger CC bikes with it's new 'Back to the Future' time travel and meet us at the bridge after getting a latte in 1940.

Thanks for the great evening guys, Gijoe I owe you a Original Milk Pearl Tea (hot) and thanks Banzai for showing us a sweet place for a chat.

Whens the next swarm?

EDIT: My camera sucks at night so all my photos are crap :crybaby:

Well the 3rd inaugural ride of the Hornet swarm by night went well! Did some goat tracks, diddle-bopped over gravel, slid through pea gravel and the usual hulla-balloo ...

Choco, Gwinch, zeocen and I just pootled around the hunuas, through to maraetai and down botany ways fer some bridge photo ops.

Gwinchy peeled off early and zeocen had to head home for some rest, leaving Choco and I to meet Banzai at mission bay (look ma! no capitals!)

Then the usual gabfest about bikes, perving at asian chicky babes in the pearl milk tea place, Choco being a minority and lowering the tone of the establishment. Mmm iced strawberry milk tea is the perfect tonic for filthy red ninja camo biker scum methinks! :2thumbsup

Funny thing was, I stills want to rides! :weep:

@Big Dave, musicman : dizzam, you knows I's funnings around wiv'de engrisk ranguage! Ruck you! :msn-wink:

I'm always up for these evening rides, provided we don't go down Monument Road again. Seriously fuck that 100+1 unmarked gravel areas, seriously retarded.

I'm sure with the summer nights there'd be plenty of people around the area wanting to get some stress relief after working during the day, could get some good turnouts no matter the day of the week!

'ere funny that zeo mentioned monument road again ... which we did today after attending Grub's funeral (may he ride with the biker gods with a vengeance!)

It seems he really laid on a great day for an impromptu ride in his memory, did Kaiaua, out the back blocks of the Hunuas, down that monument road that zeo hates at the moment, up through Maraetai (where Nagash and Badger made us worry when they did not turn up for some time!)

Zootled through Whitford to Botany where we all split up and finish our respective rides home!

Its good to see the interest in riding for ridings sake among like minded riders is picking up due to daylight savings!

Well I go for a ride every night anyway pretty much, what say we pick a destination at a certain time, with a 30 minute grace period and if people turn up, they turn up, if not, you ride anyway!

BP Whitford would be pretty good I reckon, I'm personally always out those ways and would much prefer riding with some KB'ers who aren't dickheads :)

That was a nifty wee pootle, some twisties I didn't know about and some great practice time at the Albany GP! Clockwise and anticlockwise even!

The epic pool match at the bar afterwards went well with the chips n'ginger beer!

Some awesome shots made by the players and plenty of hassling ensued. I took the long way home (no surprises there!) and even got to chat to some lovely girlies glammed up for a night on the town (at the lights and they were commenting on the bling bling LEDs )

Dang, I shoulda asked where they were going! I must be getting old! :innocent:

i avoided town on the way home... i felt i had made enough of a fool of myself with the fine young lasses at the bar :gob:

Was indeed a fun night, but most definitely need to upgrade my headlight bulb before doing twisties in the dark again. Not seeing that seal repair or thin line of gravel til you hit it sucks some serious gonads...

Yes the fifth inaugural ride of the Hornet Swarm by night was actually more of a buzz since there were only two hornets

It was raining here soufside so I dons the wet welly gears and rode out ... by the time I got to Newmarket I was like bugger heck n'feck ... typical, the weather becomes nice and the sun comes out to play

Thought of turning back, but Sod's Law would see a thunderstorm and the heavens deluging naturally.

Anyhows, the usual bike perving - kibbitzing about where to go and me taking over Ride Captain duties tonight arrrr! :devil2:

Tootled our way melodiously to the Westie world, past Motorbycyclist country and into the nice twisty and turny towards Bethell's beach.

Feck.

I been over most of parts of the NI and I haven't been down this road yet? :slap: :thud: 'Tis a charming and effervescent little road, with a harmonious and pleasant geometry that fair charms the soul of two wheeled enthusiasts!

Why, I was so entranced with the comings and goings of the perambulations of the undulating terrain I evinced a modicum of surprise and glee, as my Big Ol'Hornet helped carry me with gusto and appreciation appertaining to my gregarious and circumnavigation of those charming paths. (In other words, the bottom of my left boot gave me indication of lean angle) :oi-grr:

Mayhem, hi-jinks, shenanigans and other boisterous activities ensued after conquering a small child of Mt Everest albeit in sand dune form. Much mirth and laughter occurred as obligatory shots of company and surroundings was conducted cordially.

Large, light-absent cavities hewn from nature was explored, fine granules of earthen material compacted beneath riding attire and the trek back to where our trusty steeds were ensconced rounded off the time.

Only a melodiously tootle by a lady riding a certain gixxer delayed our rendezvous with a seat with salubrious samplings of an earstwhile food preparation outlet and the usual bon mots about motorcycling in general.

A great night.

More plans for other rides to follow at this leisurely and entertaining pace will ensue for future destinations! :msn-wink:

:innocent: I think the photos of Trace will be used in a condom advertorial! When I was walking along the beach I was struck by how similar the view was to them!

Plus the "... long walks on the beach ..." kept whispering its satirical caress in my imagination!

:oi-grr: I really should get my camera back so I can also join in posting piccy fun!

Pic 2 makes EJ look like a typical azian dewd squatting ... oh wait he t3h azianz! :pinch:

T'was Bethell's beach where the water did leach,
Young Banzai on GN sauntered through
With quiescient EJ on FXR, the second too,
Tracy watched the lads do as lads do
Dark dank places, where sand reaches cracks,
TOTO riding at Banzai's back ...
Around the twisties the famous five
Did daring events and evening ride,
At rest and ease, they have the biking disease,
And hints of more rides and other things?
Of course, but no more I say as a tease I sing!

Well the Hornet Swarm Night City run morphed into the inaugural Hornet Swarm Rural Ride tonight, what turned out to be a little guiding tour for TOTO ended up with Tracy and Choco pootling along as well! :scooter: :scooter: :scooter: :scooter:

Did the usual ride around the back blocks of Drury and out to Port Waikato to see another beach ... and then tootling along part of SH22 before out to Mercer and along the Hunuas for a wee bit.

Popped over to Bombay for gas - both bikes and riders and from there made our merry way home, since I'm first home guess I better post up! :o Damn, I think the other riders have done more klicks than me!

Mmmm looks like my Big Ol'Hornet has being going om nom nom on the bugs tonight!

Well a nice ride tonight, very sedate and scenic (zomg, almost too scenic at one point for my liking! :pinch:)

Rie, GSXR Trace and I pootled the backblocks of the 'unuas on the goat tracks, around to Clevedon, Maraetai and Whitford. Good learning for Rie and Tracey started to connect the dots of those mysterious winding roads we have been travelling over for the last few days! :msn-wink:

Just a quick windy road to wend our winsome way to where-ever I felt like it! Ended back at the same start (BP Takas) and a slight detour to see Rie and Trace off home (oh alright, I was just getting warmed up and any excuse for a ride! :innocent:)

Mangere Moronway and Rie pootled home, Trace and I did the St Heliers GP (first time for her!) sweet! I took the quick way home for me for once and I regretted it ... stick to what I know best! The Long Way Home! :oi-grr:

I guess four beaches for four days with be fine with me! :msn-wink: Getting to surf the other pages on KB for other riding themes. Maybe do a castle spotting ride and then watch some bucketing?

Either way we can shovel through most of the kewl things to see and do in Auckies and any roads around means its in our umbrella of operations. Of course since we nanny it around everywhere we don't need to Li-Lo from the :Police: and thus rub salt in wounds!

I guess the tide is turning with more bikes other than hornets are turning up :msn-wink: Well tonight should be swell and another cruisy pootle around to a scenic area.

Unless someone else floats a better idea? :innocent:

gijoe1313
20th November 2008, 22:33
Gah! And here TOTO was saying that you were behind me going around? We headed up Kumeu ways! Stopped once by the side of the road ... TOTO was ages getting to us (looking for Blackshear) ... and then at the Shell in Helensville  We waited a whiles there!

Never mind, you visited Grandma ... :niceone: always take the opportunity to do so and spend some quality time. After all, always another ride!

From there we pootled up SH16 and somehow got mixed up in the ATNR! Well we were mostly heading in different directions and there was a mass of bikers all zipping around ... :niceone:

Tracey always ends up with that which she hates ... gravel! I reckon she is joining Trump Lady for that peculiar attraction to it (The biker gods have a wicked sense of humor :devil2:) Zeocen also had a bit of the ol'steering head shake/vibration ... no fun that!

Saw Wenderholm, t'was deserted and up to the usual photo hi-jinks ... and then to Bar Africa for some scrummy chips n'wedges and ginger beers and R6_Kid regaling us with biking stuff! Sweet night!

Four points of the compass ride has been successfully completed by some mad nutters (I already am, so I don't count :bleh:)

Started off at BP Takanini, where I encountered a piece of metal leaking out precious air! :shit: Tracey and Rie hadn't arrived yet so I quickly went back home and got it sorted out with the dog poo (needed some pliers to get it out!)

TOTO was helping Blackshear out (ironic innit?) and would meet us at Kaiaua. That meant zeocen, Chisanga, Tracey, Rie and I to pootle off at a nice sedate pace to the fush n'chup dinner (to fortify ourselves for the riding ahead)
Compass point one done!

Donor txtd me several times and was well put out by all these capers! :spanking: Anyhow, TOTO arrived and we all left for the 2nd compass point - Port Waikato and did this via Mercer where zeocen left us to make his way home.

Good to see everyone being sensible and just enjoying the riding at night! Port Waikato done and done, we made our way over to West Auckland for compass point three : Bethell's beach!

Chisanga left us at this point around Mt Wtgn and it was down to four intrepid riders! I had to check my rear wheel again and lead the group on a merry wending way around Te Atatu and its environs (lots of :Police: but no fear for us since we were riding like nanas!)

A bit of more air, Rie said her goodbyes at this point and then there were only three musketeers left! The games afoot and we set off for Bethell's beach. Nice twisties at night, done at a gentle pace - I ran over a bunny (Tracey will swear I deliberately aimed for it!) was all fine till the return bit when I hit a stone, which sent the Big Ol'Hornet for an ooer! :shit:

Left the picks alone, threw my gaze away from the impending wall o'doom, looked left, more throttle and the Big Ol'Hornet carried me away from mega-ouchie time  Heart rate back to normal and I wondered if it was the spirit of the bunny wanting vengeance! :sweatdrop

The last compass point at Takapuna beach was done by some meandering through the city at Pt Chev to Three Lamps and over the bridge. A quick photo op and back over to meet in central to have a bit of a chinwag. Well done everyone!

Todd certainly has stamina, after doing the Coro loop he's still up for more riding.

What sort of pies are you eating mate?

mate i clocked 970k yesterday - still nowhere newar beating GiJoe but the longest days riding for me yet :first:

Good effort and its good to see everyone getting out and about and doing it sensibly

I'll be doing more night rides for those who need more experience at a pace that enables them to learn safely. I'll make sure they won't be too long and finish early (gasp! I know that people will say "it can't be done with that guy at the helm!")

After all, I can always keep riding after all is said and done! :msn-wink:

Twas a great night boys and girls... i got home just before 3am... so not bad!
in those few hours, i saw three hedgehogs, one frog, two bunnies... one of which, someone who has already named themselves forgot they were riding and went into camo hunting mode and chased down a bunny by weaving after it all over the road!!! haha.. so one live bunny was added to the road kills that GIJOE kept pointing out. And also saw one live possum play dead... hilarious! It say down, rolled onto its side then jumped back up again!!!

And another good ride today guys, but the problem is that i have been so many places this week they are all a blur in my head, and not sure how to get to them all again... which will mean more riding for you to show them to me (but with more time between them so i have time to re-visit them)

Another problem: ride was cancelled for tomorrow sun 23rd... which will cause a break in my riding spell.... i hope someone wants to ride to somewhere! Does not need to be too long, happy with a short afternoon ride, anyone keen? please please please, with a cherry on top!

Im now confident i can get out to wellsford on 16... but getting back and getting all teh intersections is another story. so maybe that could be the route... so that i do it again while its fresh and i can now take particular notice of the return trip

BP Takanini at 2.30pm is the goer. I will be filling up and leaving from there!

if heading south on southern motorway, take takanini exit (its after a long sweeping left hander and long straight) and just to left of exit is the BP. If heading north on southern motorway, will have to turn right once taken off ramp.
but will have to ask someone else what the exact exits are before it, as Im not sure, but think manukau is the one before it if heading south, and papakura if heading north?

The compas ride was fantastic, chur guys and girls for another fun night.

I was surprised to see farmers working on the fields at that time of night. Also surprising was the sudden change in temperature when the road dropped 500m in altitude - I was underdressed again :cold:

Doing those nice windy roads at night improved my night riding I think, as all my night riding has been mainly on well lit city streets so that was new experience for me. Gotta do more of that.

here some pics from the four compas ride.

1 GiJoe, Trace, Rie and Chisanga Knee down, riding a bench
2 TOTO knee down on the bench
3 & 4 swarmers at the port waikato lookout

A threesome (ooer! :o) of GSXR Trace and Badger8 with moi, just a good couple of hours riding at a scenic pace and stopping off at Clevedon for ice cream and a drink.

zeocen joined at the end and brought the rain with him  Around Twilight rd (where Badger made for homes) and back to my place to wash n'clean n'polish a GSXR down (ready for next weeks appearance as a talking conversation piece!) :Punk:

Hokay here is part 1 of quite a few parts (depending how many straight roads I edit out) of Takanini BP -> Kaiaua!

This first part is boring, it's just us taking off and me talking about my stupidity with a kickstand. After that I'll throw some sweet music over and enjoy the view. **note** for anyone who decides to watch and doesn't like the pace, feel free to close the window, it is slow and cruisey, we had people going into unfamiliar tight corners, as well as people returning back on the bike after being overseas, I personally loved the ride because it's not often a group stays the course and just has a great speed limit cruise, it's purely scenic.

It's hardly counted a "night" out riding if you're finishing that early. ;)

And what's wrong with the rain? Saves having to clean ya bike!

Well that was a good short ride, this sorta stuff is normal for me, but it seems you others are mad as hatters! Did Mt Eden, No Tree Hill, Mt Wtgn (closed ... denied!) and finally Bastion point via the St Heliers GP.

Howling wind, driving gales, rain coming in sideways at the top of No Tree Hill was kewl! :sweatdrop Visibility was minimal ... much better from the other places! Very primal forces as rain, wind and night converged to collude a cauldron of cacophonous calamities!

Was funny seeing TOTO's hand turning blue from the dye in his glubs leaching out! Even hid his lil'ol'hornet behind a tree :innocent:

Time was good ... 7pm we left, finished ride by around 8.18pm at Bastion point! Cagers were minimal, bikers were non-existent ... but there was a group ride and much fun and mirth had from it!

Hehe , that was fun. The cows in one tree hill were happy in the rain eating green grass, the seagulls were also very happy surfing the gusting winds above our heads and so were those three biker friends, going around just for the sake of going around :)

My "Bone Dry" gloves kept my hands as nice and wet and have colouring on my palms - I started turning into a smurf ;)

had a laugh tonight

GSXR Trace
25th November 2008, 09:05
lol funny night boys! and the photos show we were just being idiots! It was peasoup and so couldn't see a thing, and all my bike gear was dripping when i got home, so hung it over heated towel rail... gloves were still wet this morning, so used my backup pair to come to work!

Well that made 9 days of riding! yeeehaaa! :bleh:

Ill have to wait til i get home to see the videos that have been posted, but matt i saw the first one and your voice over is hilarious! good on ya mate... can't wait to see the rest

In terms of a ride tonight... the weather is better... so where were you thinking? I just have to be able to get home in time to be able to clean my bike again before my bedtime!

GSXR Trace
25th November 2008, 09:11
The approximate map be attached below :bleh:
I  that straight eh... Would've gone a bit nippier if there wasn't a shiny gixxer in the way  Still new territory for the lil ol hornet tho :)

Erm, where didnt we go? :D i didnt even realise half of those things we turned down were roads... but i loved every minute of it :D
Nay, he confuzzled the poor google maps... rough one of what ye rode

hahaha... just seen the map you drew for the same time... it felt like that in my head!
And get off the grass.. that gixxer flew past you, then the rider had the thought... "ive never been on this road, maybe this is a little silly" and so didn't continue to accelerate - at which point the little old hornet slowly gained on her - bet you were ringing the tits off her though!!!
And then on the second straight, don't blame the gixxer... blame the bloody cars coming in the opposite direction!

Yes... im very defensive of my wee gixxer!

Well when I did MaraiTai and Kawakawa bay was so cool coz there was no cars and plenty of light and roads were good, so how do you feel bout maraitai trough kawakawa bay and getting to kaiawa.?

Otherwise I have some secret roads here in albany that I showed the other swarmers before but dont thing some of you were there so we can do them again ending at Long bay or something like that?

Otherwise I'm sure Gi can lead us trough some more of those hanua roads

secret roads! :woohoo:

i was supposed to ride with EJ today so i'll ask him to come along. can we make it a bit later than usual so i can eat for a change? =_= but if that's not good for everyone else don't worry about it. :)

& "a little wet" is tolerable... but my gear takes a lot longer than overnight to recover from a good drenching! :innocent: (need to buy spare gear so i can go on rides in the wet with you crazy lot ;))

I have a long days work ahead of me, so if someone could please text me the time and meeting place, hopefully i will have finished my extractions by that point and can meet ya.. but am waiting on a few things, and then have a process that takes over 6 hours... hope i can make it!

stopping somewhere in the light to have a bite to eat or icecream sounds good to me... especially if ive only had time to leave work and get changed!

Which fine dining establishment shall face the presence of filthy biker scum I do wonder! :devil2:

Of course, I probably would be happy chomping down an ice cream as sustenance for riding ... but I daresay other riders won't be so accepting of such fare!

So, somewhere to sit, feed our faces and acceptable to all!

we could possibly head to the places at mission bay... not sure whats out there, but there seems to be plenty of eating places, where we can sit outside in the sun (hoping it is still around) and then take off for the ride... possibly via st helliers GP to start

Trick is to squeeze your gloves inside your fairings when you get home at night - the residual heat from the engine dries them out nicely by the morning!

i am curious whether this would damage the gloves - kind of like how you shouldn't hang them over heaters - just let them air dry...
