GSR400 is great bike man, the most powerful bike in 400class, CB400 i-VTEC power is nothing close to GSR's.
Why not a VFR400....

Far out TOTO and Choco, that is seriously impressive, I absolutely do not have that kind of confidence on my bike, I applaud you both! And amazing photos too!!
TOTO how much different is it getting ahold of the bike at slow speed on such an angle in comparison to the 250 and the 900?
I must come to this carpark next time you guys are having it on! I would love to see it in person!

If I'm going to try that, I'm gonna need some leathers with sliders, or at least cordura with some knee scraper velcro patches for me to put some on! Probably why I've never been confident to hang off hehe

leather is the best in my opinion. because it usually has a place for the sliders to stick on to.
by the way if someone would like to see all the pics we took today have a look at my album here - clicky ... (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/album.php?albumid=1940)

Wonder if there is big enough carpark in Japan that can do practice like :oi-grr:
Firstly I need bike, Secondly I need leather pants with Knee sliders.
But I can't expecit how hot it's gonna get in Summer over here. It's still spring but apparently it reached 26C in some places yesterday!
Dnt think summer and leather pants is good combination..

There are pants called meshed summer touring pants in Japan.
Or I could get punched leather jeans.
I'm planning to practice Jap Police bike riding when I get back on two wheels.
They do crazy slow speed stuff without knee sliding but knee gripping bikes tank. It's pretty impressive!
But yea speaking of squid, its crazy overhere! Hardly anyone on scooter or cruiser wears helmet! or if they do they just put it on top of their head and doesnt fasten it! :gob:

Ahh you should've texted one of us man, we were in town for a good while.
We left dead on 7pm to head to Daikoku Noodle Hut, godamn that place has delicious food, still. Then we headed to Howick via St Heliers "GP" into Whitford, around Maraetai and breaking up in Alfriston.. it was a beautiful night for it, not a movement of wind at all and a bright full moon shining on the full tide. Really was a sight to behold.
'twas just Sharry, Justin and I but all in all a great relaxing ride at a nice relaxing pace. As much as I love my summer gloves I may have to hang them up in a few weeks, got a bit cold out there :D

well I headed back to auckland last night (to unfortunately spend the week in the law library) but came around the corner just north of rangiriri to both lanes of cars inching along at 5km/hr! And I thought, you have got to be kidding, don't tell me its like this the whole way into auckland, but rather hoped it sped up after the stupid bottleneck.... so i skimmed past being sooooo glad to be on a bike! And it turned out I was correct and that it was onlyso slow cause the idiots on the council decided to make areas merge into one lane.... idiots!
sounds like you had a nice ride... and yes i noticed the change in temp after i left te kuiti... as soon as that sun dropped!

Well a small group of bikers swarmed around, took ages to get down Queen St. but it was all good - I like watching the passing pageantry of life!
I did make the comment how I enjoyed watching ladies enjoy their food ... Sharry polished off the good bits that zeocen left over in his bowl! And a small explanation of how not to stick one's chopsticks standing up in the rice bowl was the small cultural lesson for the night :sweatdrop
The temperature was dropping and I could feel the nice bite of cool ... makes you feel alive! Took our time riding around the back blocks and nary another biker to be seen ...
Hmmm, looks like I will have to show some more asianz food places for the next time around!

I got Two Wheel automobile license(Limited).
Which means I can only ride up to 125cc bikes!:crybaby:
Coz NZ restricted restricts you up to 250cc, they won't let me ride 400cc bikes which they allow you to ride it if you have normal bike license...
It's gonna cost me about $300 to get rid of this stupid limited thing and then $500 to get full license!

Okay, cool. Who else is in for a Friday night Swarm?
It is a nice one, I've had it for a long time. It has some very cool bling, and I'd sell both lungs before I gave it up. Umm, I need to bleed the rear brake, change an o-ring on the fuel tap, and unglue the throttle cables (which have gunked up from not being used). Then I can ride her to the Warrant station and get her stickered.

Yeah they gave me a 250 GN, and no offence to all those who love them, cause yes they are sturdy little things and there are a million of them around auckland, but it didn't feel right... not only was it tiny and not much power to it... it didn't feel like a bike should as your sitting far too much upright on it. :oi-grr: At least my old two fiddy felt half way towards a bigger bike (right position and a decent size)! So yes i probably am a cc and sport bike snob... but it sure does make you appreciate your own baby!! :innocent::love:
Haaahahaha, well there ya go, a VERY different ride indeed!
I used to love my old GN for what she was, but hate her for all that she couldnt do.
I still maintain they are the ULTIMATE learner bike, good for teaching control and the like on a stable and non-threatening platform. How long you can tolerate remaining on one varies from person to person, but i had awesome fun on mine!
And they have plenty of power round town, i used to wheelie mine clear across the intersection at every set of lights!
That said, i dont think i could tolerate one for more than a loan bike these days! The CBR was weird enough for just getting to and from work

Keep speaking the truth brother!
I miss my GN sometimes, so many fond memories. But upgrading to the hornet was something that i really needed to do and i'm a much better rider for it! I would happily take a GN as a loaner bike for a day or two, but saying that i've never had a loaner bike!

Well I suggest somewhere out south, via St Heliers "GP" backroads from Howick to Whitford, around Maraetai and then maybe to Kawakawa Bay?
Or just some urban fun, going to random scenic places and stop somewhere later on for food? Maybe the Daikoku proper restaurant !? Never been there before!

Grelimn, the model citizen, showed us how his katoom moves mono, while MBB was having trouble with his throttle.......
It was a nice wee ride on the modified St Helliers GP track, then down to Parnell for luffly classy pizza.
MBB allowed us to park in his secure parking lot.
We thought for a momment that they didn't want to serve dirty bike scum. After finding our own table and waiting for a few momments the staff must have realised the only way to get rid of us would be to feed us first
They were nice crispy based pizza with extravagent toppings.
Nothing went to waste as we had our trusty Gremlin in tow, who has long bones to feed.
We then took a stroll to Movenpick where MBB and Gremlin thought there would be some scenery of the feminin kind to admire, Trace and me made sure the lads got out of there safely :sweatdrop
It was great company and no gravell, what more could could we have asked for..........apart from a freshly made steak and egg hamburger:)

Well, when an engine is stuffed full of go fasterer goodies, sometimes there is overflow when sitting too long. She runs a little rich at idle, so you have to blip the gas a little, but yoshi cams aren't really designed for Queen St.
She only does it when she's really hot. Felt like it took 20 minutes for 300 meters. Hmm, I guess that's what its like riding a Yamaha...

Amateur indeed ... that was just me going home from Botany and doing some chores before I could pick up my bike! I think I took the long way home or summit like that.

A lot of bike shops don't even do loaners so I am thankful for the ones that have done for me, and more often than not, great bikes also.
The last thing I want to do is insult them by devaluing the bike by putting more KMs on them. Unless I have to go somewhere, they stay in the garage until I get my own back, and put my own KMs on my own bike.

28th April 2009, 12:49
I always go by the principle that bikes are to be ridden rather than locked up in the carage.
I would ride any bike, big or small, clean or dirty, old or new. As Qkchk once put it I am somewhat of a bike whore, but I just enjoy the ride :D
Actually ....I'm going for a ride :p

They'd be :gob: for one thing  The principle I work on is, ride the bike as you would normally do for your own one ... in my case, everyone knows that I love to get out and about ... so they are well aware of the milage that could possibly be clocked up! :devil2:
Test bikes that are given to me to see how they handle/perform, I'm generally out for an incredibly short amount and not much kays (after all, its a demo bike!)

Well I was going to! I was going to visit McJim but sadly the two stroke got a pinch on the cylinder. The repair is gonna cost me the trip!

Also went test riding with Toto nearly straight afterwards!
So far:
Fancy New (fugly) Hornet 600:
a 250 hornet with more grunt. didnt really like it that much. suspension definitely designed more for cornering than lumpy roads. back brakes are none existent and dosnt like slow speeds. but would probably be a hoot on a track.
Toto's Hornet 900:

I might go test ride the zuki's today, but riding Toto's big hornet i reaaaaally like it. insurance might not though :sweatdrop
EDIT: Just got an email back from Honda Sure and insurance works out for the 900... Cheaper? what? full license rocks!
well, did some more test riding today:
Suzuki Gladius:
Awesome fun. Has the potential to sound like a true v-twin and is pretty light too. In the twisties it's good fun as you can flick through the gears and has enough power to keep you on your toes! is lacking in the braking/suspension departments though. still a great bike to have fun on! :niceone:
Might consider getting one if the seat wasnt rock hard and it was in my price range! oh well.
Suzuki SV650S:
Bleh. I found the position awkward and uncomfortable, engine rather noisy and brakes/suspension pretty poor. i like the v-twin pull and grumble but the S just didnt suit me and they didnt have any N's available. rather disapointed. <_<
While i was riding this a wasp flew down my shirt (stupid low bars :angry2:) and hitched a ride until i pulled over and let it out. no violence to either party. i took this as a sign from the almighty swarm that some hornet testing was required again.

My knights in shinning armour discover the same pancakes relabled desert pancakes DO come with ice cream which could be swapped for cream.

So i went out for my first major adventure in the weekend. I had to brave the motor-way for the first time, (God its windy.) and face some blustery cold rain and wind.
Anyway we finally get out west, and start heading up toward Helensville, via Old North Road etc. I'm starting to get in the flow, using all my gears bar first, plus a couple of other imagery ones. After one set of furious corners, and intoxicated on a euphoric mix of adrenaline and revs, i finally think about the speedo. Surely I must be doing a billion-garzillion miles an hour by now... Surely...
Nope... only 75kph. And i think there in lies fun of a 250. I mean hell i had to chop down gears just to get up the steeper hills! Feeling like you're going fast has to be the best fun. I mean it's safer for a start, and totally engaging.
I think i'm rather hooked. Not mention after riding for 5/6 hours out in the rain, it was perfectly comfortable. Especially once i realised i could warm my hands on the cylinder heads. :D

Does the swarm cater for complete novices? Maybe i should hone my skills a little further still…
Quick question. What sort of tyre pressures do you guys run?
The swarm caters for anyone who is up for a bit of a pootle. no races or egos on this ride.
Tyre pressures varry depending on all bikes depending on the weight of the bike and the type of tyre you have on.
As a general rule on the 250 hornets tho - 36 psi on the front and 38psi on the back tyre.
Edit: Tyre pressures are for COLD tyres. tyre pressure for HOT tyres is suppoed to be a few psi higher, but adjusting tyre pressure on a hot tyre is not recommended.

Well that sucked!
Went out for a ride since it was looking so lovely. Headed over to see a mate and have a look over his project bike and make sure he hadnt missed any vital bolts or anything (every time i've seen it in various stages, i keep pointing out all the bolts and vital components missing as he reassembles it)
Get to his place, have a bit of a chinwag, throw him on the back and head off to the old mans place where it is housed.
Pull in the drive, yank on the garage door. No movement. Balls. "I'll leave it unlatched when i go out, yeah right" Standing round in the driveway, gave him a ring "Aww, i'm about 10 minutes away maybe?" Standing round for over half an hour... Nah, i got places to be and people to abuse, lets go, that weather is coming in too.
Head back to his place and the rain starts to spit. Oh dear, here we go...
Drop him off, and the heavens open. It went from lovely sunny day to pitch black bucket storm in like 15 bloody minutes!!! Got caught out in draggins, leather jacket, and lightweight vented summer gloves. Balls! All my gear soaked through and i'm cold wet and shivering by the time i get home 10 minutes away.
Oh well, the joys of biking! :woohoo:

Well today has been fun filled and jam packed with hornet riding! :woohoo:
Helped out ripperoo with a taste of a lil'ol'hornet bright and early today! He came in, swapped over from his ginny and got him used to the bike. Needed a bump start since the battery was a bit flat :o Anyway, a couple of laps around the block and off we tootled in South Auckland's finest pootling roads.
Did Mercer/Port Waikato and the hunuas for good measure. From the grin on his face when we stopped, I think the lil'ol'hornet grew on him :msn-wink:
After this little jaunt, I was txtd by some Horneteers and one KTM belching gremlin to come and join in the end of their coro loop excursion. Turns out Badger8 was there and a total of three hornets were swarming! :niceone:
Caught up with them at Whangamata  er they caught up with me should I say ... anyway, did Waikino gorge and then gremlin got in his notion that he wanted to play the Tag-O-Rama game. Ended up canvassing the back blocks of the boondocks well into the night  I was half expecting Badger8 to give him a good thump again!
Anyhow, a nil result was posted and we adjourned to Denny's for a late night feed and back to our respective homes, poor Sharry looked like she was all done in being TOTO's pillion! :sweatdrop
All in all, a good day for me ... riding and more of it please!:msn-wink:
I'm impressed you came straight home after Denny's LOL.
Coro was brilliant. Lots of laughs . Cherio for thje company ladies, gents and gremlin :p

:o Actually I was about to head to the 'Tron for an ice cream ... when the fuel light came on! :pinch: I think my Big Ol'Hornet had enough for the day and wanted to get back to its gargre and prak up next to Daisy and lil'ol'hornet!
Ah well, must be going soft in my old age! :slap:

Speaking of the fuel light, i was rather impressed with my hornetto today. Went out for a ride with Sharry up old north, peak rd, woodcocks etc today. I figured "ahyup, gas light will come on on the way to westgate, i shall gas up there." Got half way there and still not on, hrm, check mileage... Did 256k to the gassie, and i had not seen a flash of the mythical gas light! :first:
Considereing i normally get a flash around 215 or so, with it solid on by 230 normally, i thought i did rather well for myself :D I figured maybe the tank of 98 from waihi may have helped, but i got similar economy to normal (if anything a little lower). Anyone know how many litres to reserve? i fear my light may be bust! :pinch:

It should be about 13.5L to the reserve. Full tank is about 18 or 19L from memory (not that I have ever filled up with that much )
Maybe you're learning to ride economically? :dodge:
15 L to reserve and then 4 L reserve left.

I thought that too for a second (shock horror! :shit:) til i worked out my k/L was the same as ever... Must've just filled it real full at previous stop? who knows...

I put in 14.99L (for real!), must have been a drop away from the light coming on
I did 251.6 when the light came on, and I put 15.06 L works out to 316L to a FULL tank.
