I turned up late, and rode through hoping to catch up with you guys at the usual pre-pub stop. Not surprising you didn't hang around with just 4 there though. I'll try to be on time next week!

Roads weren't actually as bad as I thought they might be. Really have to wire up my dipped light to stay on with the high beams though... high beam currently has *no* spread for cornering... grrr...!

Right you lot. Thought I might start trumpeting for support for this ride early this week.

It will be dark, it will be cold, it will be damp, hell it could even be raining but I for one cannot be farked trying to watch the tripe that is evening TV.

Great roads, great company at the pub. Come on, get off your arse and get your fix for the week. :blip:

Well folks, we had company tonight and a relatively decent turnout it was too ... but unfortunately the uninvited kind decided to show also.
Yup, smokey bacon.:Police:

I'll leave it to others to shed further details if they wish, none will be named in my post.:violin: Unmarked silver vehicle followed us from the beginning of Old N rd, hauled up bikes at top of P rd and further HP car at Waitoki (possibly unrelated). :angry2:

I just gapped it to the pub after all the fuss but it was a rather somber mood - see ya next week, ride safe.

One rider is the "cat" and the other "mouse" and play chasing games on a ride. (it kinda results in going waay over the speed limit but its alot of fun)

If the rider overtakes you, then you gota buy the round at the first pub stop.

Can anyone pls PM me to let me know what happened? Respect that people don't want to post what happened on a forum that anyone/non-members/cops can access. I am a ATNR fan and go every few weeks, as much as work, wife & 2 kids allow but won't be going this week either and don't know if my curoius bits will let me wait that long to find out.

Same as happened six months ago... couple of coppers out to stick it to bikers up on 16, no other cars around for miles, coppers being cunts.

Apparently the complaint was laid by two police officers on that route that there were speeding bikes around so the two coppers were dispatched to gather some revenue.

Why would they do that, when they could wait a little longer and give people bigger fines for over 150kph... it's not like they're ticking for road safety or anything.

The reason I ask is because, part of every ATNR I have been on has been the pre-ride briefing that goes something like this, "The Cops know about this ride, people have lost there licenses on this ride, so speed at your own risk" I believe the QKKIEs even go on to say "If you speed and get caught just don't come crying to us"

Now I know that nobody has come crying, so I'm not trying to wind anybody up, I just wanted to know if this was an occurance of Russian Ruelette gone bad, or a complete ZERO TOLERANCE crack down from the cops.

From your post I think we can assume Russian Ruelette, so it should be safe for the majority of us to keeping riding the ATNR whenever we get the chance.

By the time those of us in the second (Nana) pack arrived at SH16, the cops were waving us through (Move along, nothing to see) At the next intersection, we had a yak & decided to take it easy to Dairy flat. Good job, as there was another lurking at Waitoki. Waited at Dairy flat for 20 mins, then moved on to the bar as the second cop was turning up.

Speeds involved must have been up there as a car was dispatched from the bar with bike riders to recover bikes that couldn't be ridden by the owners, but still don't know the full story.

18th June 2007, 16:46
All I know that there were 3 walking. Not going to point the finger, they know who they are. 2 were regulars and the third has been on the ride a few times.

For how many times either me or Qkkid have lead the ride we have niether had a ticket. You just can't do high speeds on those roads and get away with it, gotta keep it under the 140kph barrier.

So for tonight it sounds like BAR AFRICA for a sweepstakes pool night. I was looking at meeting around 7.30ish but if you fancy seeing the bikini girls make sure you get in well before 7.30. We have tried to get the time extended but the girls dont want to hang around that long....

Get something warm on as it gonna be freezing later and I'll see you lot up @ the BAR.

Well it was a shameful turnout at Westgate last night. Myself and Hovel. We two lowly bikers sulked off into the night but somehow I lost Hovel on the way to the pub . Wherever you ended up mate, I hope you had a good time. You were ahead of me and I assumed you knew where you were going - but after we were separated by a red traffic light, you disappeared into the night.

Decent crew at the pub fortunately, and one or two games of pool were enjoyed (myself a little late at joining the queue, maybe next time). Nice skills MactheKnife:niceone:.

Hey Delusions I wouldnt panic about the size of your bike (not that size doesnt matterof course:dodge:) we have a number of 250s turn up each week.

On the ATNR we have a leader, a tail end charlie, and pointers at all intersections we are turning off at so no worries about getting lost. We also have some issues with cops atending this ride in uniform and in patrol cars:angry:, so the speed limit is generally not exceded by more than a little bit.

I've never ridden in a group larger than 3 before, I'm interested in joining in on one of these for once but it looks like everyones got bigger bikes than me though

Bigger bikes dont mean better riders. Just take up more room, petrol, rubber(mmm rubber).

See you next time.

Delusionz, come for a ride dude, I thought It'd be weird riding with a group of bikes but it's good as! Same as on your own, if your feelin' it you can try to follow the faster guys and if your not there's no pressure and you can have a roll around and come back the next time to do it again! I have a 250 that'll be slower than yours for sure (but I try to urge it along a bit too :scooter:) so you won't get left behind. I go normally every 2nd week, was there last week, not this week, it's gotta be a pay week for me. I hadn't gone on the tail and last week there was mainly quicker guys so I decided it was time to pay my dues, there was a guy who was getting back into riding after 10 (?) years and he was getting the feel back so we just cruised along together, made me feel great to help someone have a good night out on 2 wheels.

It's no training session but don't get scared off, there's tons of great people and some nice roads, when it's dry I've been really diggin' these cool clear nights.

See ya soon a,

Nope. Open road. Follow it in your head from the roundabout, along the little straight, curve left into blind right, over the crest, straight, kink right in the dip then over crest. Open road signs are right there (just before the road on your right that takes you back to riverhead town) before you head into the dipping left sweeper before the riverhead bike track park (pretty sure thats what it is).

Actually NO!, i do know where you mean.
How silly, every time i see those signs i think what a stupid place to have the signs.
They tell you that you can speed up right before a blind crest merging into a tightish left hander. with a road on the right, and a driveway/road on the left.

I love a good cane as much as anyone and feel that even on the smaller cc bike don't get in the way too much but think we need a way to say "go - pass - I'm letting you go and won't pull out!"

Was infront of a litre bike last week and moved left and rolled off the gas to let the guy pass but he slowed too. I'm happy that they used caution when they wern't sure what I was doing but hate to feel I'm slowing someones ride up, (could have not slowed but would have still been stopped compared to a big bike taking off) we are all out for the same reason and just like taking turns on points etc need to communicate for the greater good. I recon that holding the left wheel track and signalling left would be a goodie and will bring it up at the next breifing (that I'm at). I think the less "rules" (for want of a better word) the better but good if we can all talk the same language when out together?

Idea's?

If it doesn't go any futher here I might do it anyway cos I know that I've hung back sometimes not wanting to heckle another rider but if they signalled that they were holding left and knew I's there I woulda gapped it.

See you kids in the playground! :Punk:

Hey Pankakes

Personal opinion is that you are best to ride your own ride, in other words dont slow down, if you can see its clear in frount give a quick flick with your right indicator, any 1000+, or sports 600 will have no issues passing your 250 (no offence intended, hope you know what I mean).

If the guy (or girl) infrount of me started slowing down, without any other sort of indication to carry on I would think he/she has a problem and slow down as well to see if I can offer assistance.

Just my $0.02

Cool, just wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone that rode with others more had signals they found easy and not confusing.

I agree and do just do what I'd normally do on my own alot cos on some of those corners it's not really the place for passing, want to be able to say to riders behind me that I'm not breaking down or wobbling around, that I'm letting them by.

Well aware the bigger/sports bikes don't have any issues in the power dept compared to mine but when they don't know the riders around them or what the rider in front is doing I don't blame anyone for not risking passing. I quite often wave riders by me but in the dark or when you want both hands on the bars I started wondering what others do.

Have had long term borrows of an RGV-r and GSXr250 a few years ago too so kinda have an idea of what I'm missing out on. Loved how the big V pulled tho! like a freekin train! Aye, I agree with u mate, I rarely pass another bike on the ATNR rides as the corners are fairly tight and theres other vehicles that use the road too (not to mention our friendly wildlife who pop in occasionally to say hi), but most of all, Ill never ride too close too a rider in front of me (who I dont know really really well) so as to not push him at a pace he is not comfortable with, and hate it when riders follow me too closely. (basically a good distance for me is when I cant hear the bike behind me through my earplugs roughly 30 meters), if he comes closer i just wave him by and turn my highbeam on and tailgate him na lol. I just slow down let the nub go ahead and then pace it along again... after all the point of the ride is not to get to dairy flat first, its to enjoy urself, get that damn im good feeling, wheelie now and then (when its safe) and then make it to the pub, ur bike n urself in one piece to laugh secretly at the nub who thought he was actually faster than u. Carrying on with Pancake's question...

I will usually just ride on normally, but then hold my speed down a bit on the next straight.
I figure an experienced rider can pass me almost anywhere using the other lane, or same lane come the next straight.
and I wouldn't want to encourage an inexperienced rider to pass on, or near a corner.

But I agree that a signal of some sort would help.

So Pumba's suggested a quick flick of the right indicator, this sound okay to people?
There's kind of issues either way. A flick of the right could make you think they're about to pull across for some reason, or possible u-turn? Unlikely in most situations, but would make me hold off a sec until I knew what they were doing.
A flick of the left would make you wonder if their bike is okay, and may slow to help out.

Hmmm... what other body parts are available?
(nothing rude here, it's too cold for that!)

Maybe frantic waving of both legs or flapping of elbows...?

Sounds like the waving and flailing of body parts would do the trick. Might even scare the person passing.

A left flick of the indicator sounds like common sense to me

Thinking about it for a while I think the thing I normally do (if I can't/don't want to take my right hand off the throttle to wave someone by) is indicate left, stay left and keep on the gas, any IL250 and everything bigger will take me easy on those straights!
Part of what riding is about shows when people give each other the courtesy of not tailing too closing or passing when their not sure what the other rider is doing at the expense of their own ride.

Oooh, itching to get out, was too wet for fun today and ran out of gas on Saturday, managed to roll to a servo  nice! Mmmm, was that the 2nd day I was on empty or 3rd?

A few showers, briefly turning to rain tonight with isolated thunderstorms.

Don't think it will rain tonight. If anything, the cloud cover will just get thicker. (Which would be nice - not so cold at night)

It's a bit like leading lambs to the slaughter I guess - a great captive quota/fines pond to angle in. Sure anyone who isn't speeding is going to be ok, but how do you control yourself on a potent machine like a ZX10R? Bloody difficult at the best of times, let alone on a deserted country road (save a couple of 'by the book' quota filling :Police:).
The best bit about the night for me was getting the call from Biggles08 to come and ride Eviltwin's 07 ZX10R back into the city. It's quite some machine, I can tell you! Sorry Shano :crybaby:

To think I was defending the cops less than 2 weeks ago!!!??? You know why though, EvilTwin, BIGGBOSSMAN and myself were out having a go on SH16 when we stopped for a cig break at the end of Woodcocks Rd...a coppa turns up, pulls over and has a chin wag with us just for the hell of it. Turns out he rides a TL1000, comes from Dublin (Important point this) and isn't interested in merely lining Helen's pocket! This FUCKWIT last night was an arrogant c%#t with the integrity of a worm! just doing his job my arse! The dude from Dublin is what I would refer to as a cop "doing his job" properly! The reason in my opinion why the Dublin cop was a 'good' cop is that he has been brought up in an environment that isn't sheltered like here in little ol NZ. He hasn't been brainwashed by this agenda the govt has to turn the average punter into a crim. 'Mr Dublin' was a coppa with experience and knew the difference between the real crims and the guys who just like riding bikes a little faster than what the majority 'dumb' people in NZ call a safe speed!?! I can see people getting all up and bitchy about this post but the fact remains "SPEED DOES NOT KILL" and never will....people 'speed' quite legally in Germany every day without dieing....its the dickhead who can't ride/drive properly that is the killer.

It is obvious that these cops last night were waiting for us....why were they waiting for us? They are waiting because they want to 'target' decent people who they will justify are criminals by hiding behind a stupid law that is easy to police....In my opinion, policing an 'easy law' doesn't make you good at your job or even "just doing your job"...it makes you a wanker!!! If the Cop who did the damage last night is reading this...YOU ARE A WAIST OF SPACE NAZI!

Just the two questions for you
What's basis of your defence going to be when you defend it?
You ARE going to defend this overt misuse of power... aren't you?

FFS... if you do the crime be prepared to do the time. It's risk and return. No mystery to it, no point bitching and moaning. It's a simple transaction with a greatly increased likelihood on the ATNR because we set off from the same place, same time every week, take the same route (more or less) and end up in the same place. You think it's a challenge to catch people breaking the law in a regular as clockwork pattern?

You think they should ignore people breaking the law every week regular as clockwork? What if it was a theif breaking into your house every Tuesday afternoon? Or are there some laws they should ignore coz... y'know... they're not so important.

I am contemplating appealing my $150 ticket for 'passing on a yellow line' which I am 100% certain I did not do. If the guys that were around at the the time that i got pulled over (and consequently binned) could send me a PM and let me know if you think I am wrong that'd be awesome.

Chill the fuck out.

Do I sound calm to you...

What you say about SH16/peak/old north is true. No one was doing 200kmh though.

In all honesty though, the cop in the Euro Accord is a Nazi fucking cunt. He gives us all tickets, yes they were speeding etc, but he was on a mission... he didnt explain sweet fuck all to anyone, just took their licences and filled out the paper work, didn't even say what they were getting pulled for.

He then had the arrogance to plant his foot and speed through the 50kmh zone, he wasn't on the way to an accident or anything, and didn't have his lights on. What he did was an exhibition of acceleration, and part of it was sustained loss of traction as he did a U-turn. He also passed on double yellows without his lights on.

If you are a cop and are going to pull us over for whatever we did wrong, then I have no problem with that, but when you act like a complete cock, and have stated before that you do not like bikes and will ticket their riders for anything given the chance then you are doing nothing but being a disservice to the police force and lining the pocket of the government. If he's acts like he is above the law then he is running double standards and needs a reality check. If he wants to drive around the way he does then he needs to take it to the track just as much as any of us.

With my ticket it is a very close call, and if you take all in to consideration (i.e the safety of my passing, not speeding, indicating, and conducting 99.9% of the pass on broken white lines, then surely a warning is more just than a ticket.

OK... so he doesn't like bikes... and you don't like him... sounds like a fair swap - does that make you more right than him? Or the fact there are more bkes than cops - does that sway the moral imperative?

FFS... if you do the crime be prepared to do the time. It's risk and return. No mystery to it, no point bitching and moaning. It's a simple transaction with a greatly increased likelihood on the ATNR because we set off from the same place, same time every week, take the same route (more or less) and end up in the same place. You think it's a challenge to catch people breaking the law in a regular as clockwork pattern?Read my 1st post on the subject again...this is my Point exactly...no challenge at all...Money for jam you might say!

You think they should ignore people breaking the law every week regular as clockwork? What if it was a theif breaking into your house every Tuesday afternoon? Well this is quite different to going over 100kph...if you cant figure this out for yourself, your a twat!

Or are there some laws they should ignore coz... y'know... they're not so important. Question...will you still smack your child after they tried to put a fork in the power socket??? I know a lot of people who will but if you do....ooooooo......You criminal!!!

Sort your shit out.
I have my shit all nicely lined up in a neat row...its all 100% sorted

If people all follow along blindly and just do what we're told and when, you will end up with whatever others decide is best for you...me...nah...its bullocks and I won't shut up just because you say so.

I get so fucked off with small minded people forcing their opinion onto me! FYI I didn't get a ticket, or lose my license but I am gutted that my mate did! He was going over 100kph, he was 'breaking the law' and yes by all counts he should face the music...does this make it right?! No it doesn't. The penalty doesn't serve 'justice' to the crime...he was not riding dangerously at all to himself or others...it only remotely makes sense if you buy into the bullshit propaganda quote "Speed Kills."

I can and will vouch for that 100%,however...

It's the "Law"...sucks arse but it is,sadly. Ride beyond it and be prepared for the bs that ensues.
Hey don't get me wrong mate...I break the speed limit more often than not however I know what happens if I get caught.

Simple .....

Speeding = get ticket
Ride like crap, beyond your skill, beyond quality of the road, beyond the conditions = fall off / get hurt.

Do all of that while cops around, on a public road, well published ride = dick head / dick headette ....

All the moaners, drink a cement milk shake and harden yo arse up!

Pay your dollars and get to a track day if you want to speed, get your knee down, show off the size of your balls to your mates.

It is not cool to fall off ....... shows a total lack of your ability to judge your own skill level.

It is a fine line between being a smarty dick and a just a plain dick.

But what do I know .......

Rant over .......

You are So uncool .......

I have to agree with T on this one...if you are breaking the law in one way or another you have to be prepared for the fines etc....at the end of the day.........What's the point in going on and on about it.....We did the rides, got the fines, pay it or contest it and move on!

Was nice to see a few new faces out there last night, and also a pleasant surprise to meet MDU's special guests!

My knees are all cleaned up and bandaged, a big thanks to Macktheknife for the treatment, and to him and DMNTD for the good yarn earlier today.

I feel for the guys who lost their licences, yeh the cops were being nazi etc but we knew they would be around. I am contemplating appealing my $150 ticket for 'passing on a yellow line' which I am 100% certain I did not do. If the guys that were around at the the time that i got pulled over (and consequently binned) could send me a PM and let me know if you think I am wrong that'd be awesome.

Thanks to the guy on the CBR900, sorry i don't know your screen name.

Take it easy out there guys.

Bro I am really worked up about what that cop did last night. You hardly passed on the yellow line and he decided he was going to have you. Whether it meant almost taking me out(which I had a go at him for) or overtaking on a blind corner, or following too closely to you and causing you(in my opinion) to crash off your bike into the hard stuff. Three wrongs dont make a right eh? or is that two. He even manages to give you a ticket, after causing your crash.
Big old fuuuuuuuck wit for ruining our ride.

There's no hoons on this ride is there????
Didn't see any, just a couple of people in leathers walking along.

I have no idea what your referring to Titanium (I obviously haven't been around KB long enough) and I mean no disrespect to who you are talking about, however there is no way possible that speed alone was the reason for the loss of lives. There was obviously other factors at play in the incident. I stand by my original statement that "speed Kills" is Bulshit. It is like saying chop all the trees down so we never have another bush fire. The trees are only part of the reason for the fire...what about the idiot that threw the cig into the bush....but no, we blame the trees because that is who we have been programed to blame.

Who's to say that 100kph is the magical number that make us safe anyway??? The law? I know plenty of situations that I have been driving/riding in where I would have been an idiot to go the legal 100kph...but it would have been legal! I think you are missing my point Titanium, which is speed (as referred to as exceeding the set limit) alone can not be blamed for accidents. Speed plus other circumstances (bad visibility, excessive traffic, unpredictable pedestrians, bad road condition etc) will ultimately determine the rider/driver/other road users safety in any given situation. I wish we would adopt more of an attitude of the Europeans (Germany in particular) where personal responsibility still means something. You never get an outcry about how bad speed is in Germany after an massive accident...nope, they look at the actual reason for it and take measures to ensure they minimize the chance of it happening again. They pay detailed attention to driver education, road conditions and enforce laws that are designed to protect the citizens from harm and not laws designed to raise money for the government! Its so obvious if you take the time to get out of the little box that you call life, that you live in...thats uncool in my opinion.

And to further rebut your last comment....nah, I'm cool, just ask me...I'll tell you!:niceone::rockon:

If only there was some form of test you had to sit before you got a driving licence that could be used to weed out all the retards that can't ride / drive properly...

Maybe I'm just dreaming here.

Well there is really. Just have decent tests to start with. My partner is German and moved here 5 years ago. She changed her German license to a NZ one and couldn't believe how easy it was! Scratchy pot-luck test and she was away laughing!?! In Germany you need to do a certain amount of hours in any given environment ie so many on the autobahn, so many in suburban streets etc...and not taught by your dad or mum but by a certified instructor! We let anyone on the road here.

Further more, the 'decent' cops are policing the real crimes like dangerous driving/riding, unfit vehicles, and drunk driving, not out getting their 'quota.'. I don't really even have a problem with cops giving out speeding tickets for the right reasons...however, sitting on the side of a road specifically waiting for our group to fuck us over is not cool...its simply revenue collecting and that is what I hate!

Yup Biggles, where is the 'education' in simply slapping fines on people? Gone are the days of "Excuse me Sir, I have pulled you over because of your excessive speed. I'm going to let you off on a warning this time....".
To tell you the truth I've never had great experiences with the police here, I was assaulted by a gang member at the age of 18 and was never even interviewed (they did NOTHING), had numerous car break-ins and burglaries and each time all that eventuated from the cops was an 'incident report'.
I returned from the UK a few years ago (lived there for 2 years) and while on the way to pick my daughter up from Papakura (2 days after arriving back), I was pulled over by a cop on the deserted Takanini straight. 63kmh.
"Sorry officer, this is the first time in a car here since 2001 - been in England and the speed limit there in suburbia is 60kmh. I'll not do it again"
Ticket duly issued instead of a warning and some sermon about keeping the road toll down. Cocksucker!:tugger:
Sounds just like the dick the other night...

Tuie alou ali apalitou’ nu

I’d like to extend a warm and friendly greeting to our south Auckland Polynesian members who don’t pay their power bills.

Welcome to KB.

It is good to see you have continued to adopt the position of blaming others rather than accepting the consequences for you own actions and blame the people who forced you to become aware of your own(possibly poor) choices.

As you run into some farmers stock(or him) crossing the road and you couldn’t slow down fast enough(not because of speed mind you), ensure you point the finger at him accusingly as you body breaks up over a distance of some 200 – 300 meters down the road.

It will make you feel much better.
