Yeah, yesterday the gravel on SH 16 was plentiful. There was maybe five or six stretches of road affected.

Hey boys & girls, just heard via facebook that there is unmarked pea gravel on Old North Road and SH16. A couple of bikes binned in the weekend, and the council is out responding to the heads up I gave them today.

They are so feckin' irresponsible when it comes to road repairs. How difficult is it to put up some signs to warn of road works?
Perhaps if we didn't have ACC the threat of litigation as a result of their ineptitude, or lack of diligence, may make them become a bit more aware of the dangers they create.
Having become a victim to their slack behaviour I tend to get a little excitable when I hear they are continuing with this practice with absolute disregard for the carnage their actions lead to. I liken it to leaving a loaded gun lying around.
Is it because the people who fix the roads now are private contractors and are trying to limit their costs to maximise their profits.
Recidivist offenders should be pursued and brought to task for their behaviour under those provisions of ACC that cover wanton disregard for the safety of others.
I guess that is a job for the minister responsible. Who is that? Ahh! Judith Collins.
Interestingly she has announced the appointment of three new motorcycle Safety Advisory Council members (who are they?) and says this comes at a time when ACC is boosting its focus on injury prevention across the board.
Perhaps they could start with roading contractors and their cowboy behaviour.
One would think Insurance companies would have started making noise about this. I can imagine they have suffered as a result of the roading contractor's incompetence. It seems every time a bike goes sliding down the road they feel the need to write it off so their costs must be considerable. Or don't they pay out?

The weather forecast isn't looking too great is it?
If it's wet tonight, then I'll skip the big kids ride and join the juniors (Mobil Oteha Valley Rd departing 6:45pm).

Hey Ribit. You have a couple of options on Thursday nights.
This ride leaves from Z Westgate at 7pm. Generally experienced riders who maintain legal open road speeds yet go pretty quick through corners.
Or there's another thread for ATNR Junior. This leaves Mobil Oteha Valley Rd at 6:45pm. Aimed at smaller bikes or less experienced.
Either way, we'll see you at the pub!

On hold cause of a bit of rain every now and then.. i think not!!.. all our tyres on the sportsbikes are rated for atleast 40degree lean in the wet so still plenty of fun!!

Hi guys,

ATNR and ATNR-J start from different locations so that people don't get confused.

ATNR-J (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/165654-ATNR-Junior-%28Auckland-Thursday-Night-Ride-Junior%29/page5) is for slower, learner, LAMS, new people or just laid back riders. :ride: And starts at Oteha Valley Rd, finishing up at the same place as ATNR.

ATNR has typically been for the more spirited riders. :headbang:

When you say 'spirited' you mean 'ghostly apparitions that don't turn up', right? :msn-wink:

We had a good ride Thursday night leaving from Oteha, broke a few speed limits and someone lost a brake lever on a back road. I'm not sure that I'm ready to see what the senior riders get up to just yet...

Haha they can't get their precious slicks wet!!!!

Just remember with the ATNR-J ride that you have to go as fast as the slowest rider. I created that ride so that newbies feel welcome to come and learn/grow and ride. If there are heaps of you feel free to split the ride in 2 groups.

Be careful out there on a Thursday :Police: know the area well.

Tentative yes from me. I was looking to go for a dry ride tonight, last night was a bit damp (gloves are still wet). Have not heard anything from the Oteha Valley Road or Autobahn meeting point threads, so will probably drop by Westgate if it remains dry, nothing else pops up, and I can leave work in time to get there.

I'm juggling with the idea of ATNR, or ATNR-J, or SATNR this evening.
I was thinking of checking out a couple of items at Cycletreads, so ATNR afterwards might be a go.
Which one usually gets a few turning up these days?
Oh, and I'm not looking to go quick, so does that rule me out for ATNR? (Can't afford any tickets)...

It's a great open road ride for those who go to NASS to try and use some of the skills we've picked up.

If everyone just did the same fucking ride and stopped being pussies then maybe more people would turn up.

The ATNR hasn't been the crazy mythical ride it used to be since probably around 2007 when it started its slow demise.

If you get enough people going then the pointer system works better and caters for all riders.

If you have 4 people turn up and one of them is a learner of course the other 3 people are going to find the pointer system tiresome.

Everyone can ride their own ride, and have a good time. Not sure where the idea came from that if you go on the ATNR youll get tickets. ONLY IF YOU SPEED (and get caught)

If crazy people want to turn up LET THEM, as its what used to provide the simply awesome entertainment in years gone by before the high-vis brigade came along. Anyone from the old skool will fondly remember the dramas and the excitement and the stories at the pub.

Around 2006 was the time I went on my first ATNR. My memories of this include a fireblade going passed me at around 130kmh whilst pulling a standup mono; Being overtaken by an '05 ZX10R going in excess of 250kmh; someone standing on the tank of their VFR for the length of some monstrous straight on Ararimu Valley Road; & Going 'as fast as I could' on my ZX9R only to find myself near the back of a +20 pack at the first stop off. Least to say .. I loved it. Despite being one of the "high-vis" brigade I still enjoyed my fair share of immature antics.

A few years later, it seemed to have calmed down. Everyone seemed to stick to 100kmh despite what the recommended corner speed was, but I didn't see anyone pulling any wheelies or doing anything most would deem stupid/fun.

It contains the replacement of radiator cap. Old one was showing 1.6 was far too high for street bike. Now current one is 0.8. A used thermostat was also been replaced. According to the technician, it was running as it should be ran. Work was done over 1 month ago before lock down.
