There were some fine looking women at that pub on Thursday.
Almost as fine as that sunset we saw tonight.
A leftie to Helensville on the Thursday ride is a definite goer I reckon. Particularly once the days start getting longer and we can get to see the setting sun over the Tasman. Pretty cool view. I'm a sucker for good looks.

Qkchk

Well since everyone cant make up their mind on which pub - why dont we go and try somewhere else? Things to consider:

1. Perferably at the end of the ride. (Albany/Glenfield/Marangi Bay Area)
2. Parking for bikes, where they can be seen and not tampered with
3. Real Food has be available (not bar snacks!)
4. Resonable prices - Food and Drinks
5. Somewhere new. We have been to the Old Albany, Speights and Bar Africa.

Ideas please! Only interested in ideas from people who ACTUALLY go on the ride, thanks. :finger:
Have thought of the bar in the new Westfield Complex (but parking is a premium) there is another next to the Caltex Station on Mecari Way. Could try those bars down at the other end of William Pickering Drive...... How Ponamu in Northcote? Just bouncing ideas around....

FROSTY

Why not that pub topa nor western?

We could just try and bar every week and see how we go. adds a bit of variety too.

and that way, people will actually have to go on the ride to find out where we are going :P

To be honest - I dont know why you guys dont like Bar Africa??

1. It has ample parking in full view
2. It has ample room for stunting (if anyone wants to)
3. Food is reasonable price - If you want cheap food, grab Maccas before you come on the ride?
4. Menu is forever changing - So it aint boring
5. We have an outside area - With heaters! There is actually 2 outside areas..
6. Has pool tables so we can have wagers
7. Has hot chicks (and guys), frequent the Bar

What else do you want? Not many other place to go that have what they offer. And for the benefit of the doubt - No, we dont get paid to got to that bar! (Or any other)

We could go back to the Old Albany, were they used to shut the resturant before we got there and shove us out because its the Headhunters bar!

Well you cant have all your nachos and eat 'em!

I will be discussing this issue with the 'regulars' this Thursday. At this stage I felt it is better for the group as a whole to return to Bar Africa. (Unless we can find someone else who deserves our money?)

Does everyone feel that the Bar has to contribute a free spread everytime we are there? Maybe in the summer when we have 40+ riders but in Winter I think its a huge ask. Is this the reason why people decided to go back to the Speights? As for Homage - there is a VIP card available...

I wasn't there when you guys originaly decided to change bars so I don't know why it happened, but I thought Bar Africa had it all, the price's are a bit high for my taste ('my taste'....giddit...food....taste....ohhh never mind) but then on my wages so is mac'ers.
I guess what Im saying is I don't care where I end up as long as I have a good, fast ride with good people.
Sooooo.....Ummmmm..... what a waste of a post

My $0.02 for what it is worth (fuck all with the rate of inflation), a few of us made a decision to move bars for a bit of varity, and we all felt the food was a bit better at the Ale House when we were last there. IMHO the food at the Ale House deffently aint as good as it used to be (must have had a cheif change or something).

Does everyone feel that the Bar has to contribute a free spread everytime we are there?

Once again my $0.02 (shit that is $0.04 in one post, if I keep this up I will never get my new bike).

No.

We are paying customers like everyone else. As mart bar manager would know a cash cow when they see one and look after them but there is fuck all point in giving away any profits that you may make from a group like ours in free food back to that same group, you already have there buisness.

True that looking after your customer base will retain those customers that you already have, but I cant think of antything Bar Africa in particular did to drive us away, and those of us that stayed a bit latter were normally looked after (good hot chocolates )

Yeah I had the same thoughts - That dish I bought the other night cost $15 and all it was one skewer of prawns (6 of them) and one popadum with a cupful of rice - Talk about a rip!

I totally agree (again). However there is always someone whinging about not getting 'free food'. Take a concrete pill and HTF you tight arses!

I wasn't doing the ride during that time, hence I wasnt sure of the reason it got changed, I just heard multiple stories/reasons. Mainly the food was the issue but Speights isnt any better and its more expensive!

Reading everybody elses remarks, I think the logical thing is go back to Bar Africa simply because it fulfills our requirements. Try and find somewhere else that does it all............. :woohoo:

I've heard lots of speculation about free food or no free food at the various ATNR venues.

As Pumba has already pointed out it makes absolutely no sense for any venue to give us free food ever (well except if there's 50 of us show up on a given night).

The point of being in business is to make money, the net profit left in 1 or 2 pints (we don't want to crash drunk now do we) would be sweet #$!@ all, then to give that back in the form of free food is pointless.

QKCHK mentioned VIP cards at BAR AFRICA, perhaps we should enquire about those a little more. In my opinion the best we could hope for would be 5% discount on meals and $5 pints.

That'd sure keep me very happy, $10 beer money $10 fuel money, sweet as!!!!

It started when InDeSkyz asked if anyone wanted to go for a ride one Thursday night. I replied that I knew a few roads up Kumeu way and the ride evolved from there and the rest is history. First ride was in Sept 2005. Here is the starting thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=17886&highlight=tennis)before I named it the ATNR.

The ATNR is now a Social Group. Anyone who has been a regular on the ride will get any INVITE so we can keep it ATNR related and not get Hijacked by unwanted company.

If I have missed you, your either a bastard or I have innocently forgetton you. (p/t)

So is this social group for the riders of the ride only? I like to attend the pub and catch up with everyone but your criteria says that you have to have been on the ride for 10 or now times? I have not been in Auckland long enough and not skilled enough to join the ride either but love the social side. So if this group is for people that attend the pub too....where's my invite?:Pokey:

Pfft, if the cop says he recognises you, you're fucked.

Chocky's real issue was not noticing that a marked car had pinged him and started chasing. How do you miss something like that?

Ah well, a good training exercise for the old Mark I Eyeball, Chocky's gonna keep them peeled a helluva lot better in future, I suspect...

Chocky, once your goddamn eyes start working properly and noticing red and blue flashing lights, there are two rules you need to remember:

1. Don't think, just go.

2. Don't subsequently button off unless you have a fetish for being metaphorically arse-raped by very angry men in blue uniforms.

Corollary: That 170-beats-per-minute heartrate counts as exercise. Have an icecream.

Ok, I thought about it long and hard. I didnt want the likes of Skiddy or any annoying person who doesnt ride on the ATNR to join the group. I also didnt want to Moderate the thread because there will be people I would have to deny. The idea of the group was to let the senior riders have a say on how to run the ride. Dont want any people who have only been on it twice to try and run it etc...Guess I cant win either way. So the group is now unlocked but has to come through me first.

Not to mention the speeding he was doing. I was riding at 105kph and he went screaming past me trying to catch up with the riders way up in front of me...you guys were a good 700 meters ahead and he caught you lot pretty quick...I would estimate he was going about 130kph at the very least! I would have followed him to get his speed but then knowing him he would have given me a ticket for speeding....because I was keeping up with him :shit:.

He said that they are allowed to pursue a vehicle without lights on? Not sure about this but even if this is the case, they never pulled anyone over for about another 10 kilometers down the road...and they caught up with you guys just after that long straight after we turned off the main straight...That means you must have been running from him and he was pursuing you until when he pulled you over???? Considering he wasn't upset with anyone for trying to do a runner it all sounds all a bit dodgey to me!

Seems like one rule for them but its unsafe for anyone else to exceed 100kph!

westie
29th May 2008, 23:11
Hmm yes there is no doubt he was doing up to 130km/h as He sped away from me doing a little less.

Its not an offence, I would contest that westie...Rode Code states that 'the only time you have to dip your lights is when you come upon a cop on points duty'.....you are within your rights to drive/ride with your lights on full...its an arsehole thing to do granted but not illegal.

Perhaps someone in the force can say whether this is true or not, it might also be worth a try by the people involved :devil2:

Probably should not do this but....this was one question in Maha mans scratchie test that he got WRONG! The correct answer on the test was the only time you have to dip your lights was approaching a points man on duty!

I always thought you could not drive/ride with high beam lights in a 50km zone, following another vehicle or with on coming traffic. Seems that there should be a bit more investigation here.

Where abouts is the West Gate Shell? Which end of the North Western, Near Albany or in Auckland? New here, as will no doubt have gathered!
Directions from Esmonde Road will be good, LOL! If you know how to get onto the Hobsonville H/Way or more commonly known as the Upper Habour Highway then follow that west to where it meets up with the Northwestern Motorway and you will find Westgate (Village Cinemas/BK/The Warehouse/Ten Pin Bowling/Shopping center) keep heading West like you are going to Kumeu (and up SH16) and the Shell is on your left before the Don Buck Rd/Sh16 roundabout. You can always grab a bite to eat up there - McD's, Hell Pizza, KFC and chinese within 50M where we park up. C u there!

Go north up the motorway, take the Constellation Drive exit, and go left - along Constellation Drive/Upper Harbour motorway till you see the Shell Service station on your left (just past the traffic lights at the top of the NW motorway).Argh! So you do know how to get to the ATNR - NO EXCUSES NOW! :nono:

I note TV3 tonight had a special on gangs, and gangs were covered on TV2 as well, as a major problem to NZ society.

Anything they could get you for, i got done for my plate aswell..

Well surely that gives you a clear defence in court.

It is good to note that there aren't any serious crimes like shootings/armed robberies, or murders happening in Auckland that might keep them occupied.

Question. Before the arrival of Andy C., how many accidents/injuries were occuring (of any kind) on the roads that are being patrolled?

I managed to slip through the road block without stopping when the cop looked away! They had a list of bikes and were still looking for a few when we left the scene. There could be the possiblity that they may knock on your door.

yeh twas me.. you lucky bastard, they let us ride home so that was ok.Even tho this is bordering on Police Harassment, at least they had the decency to let those who were 'walking' to ride their bikes home. Remember this is at the officers disgreation and they can still be liable for your actions if you do not go straight home/commit another offence.

Just an outline of what happened:

Approached the end of Peak road to be greeted by 4 Patrol Cars with a 'roadblock' in place (cones and approx 8 cops-very similar to a breath testing point). Asked to get off bike and produce licences. Apporx 5mins after pulling over, dark coloured (blue?) late model Primera pulls up. Our friend jumps out with 3 others and proceeds to open up notebook with a list of rego plates written down and walks amongst bikes. 4 definate 28days walking with a couple of maybes. Supposedly the Primera was parked up somewhere on Old North Rd. Those who lost their licences where allowed to ride their bikes home (and not via the pub - as said by a cop). Patrol car made a visit to the bar afterwards to check on who was there......(reading rego plates)

And they say that police resources are stretched. Sounds like they wouldn't know a bit of stressfull hard work if it bit them on the arse. Ever heard of prioritising? Maybe I am wrong. Maybe West AUckland is such a safe place that the only thing for the cops to do is catch speeders.

Im sure that the coppers do prioritise - but they have to leave X number of men out there to try and prevent people just doing what they want and to fuck with what others think - which is exactly what this group do.

And they do it week in, week out - discuss it on a public forum, effectively publish where they are going to do it and when.

Considering Ginga reads this forum apparently - one could argue that its actually good policing. And its not like it was rocket science that it was going to happen - heck Qkchk even said that "woulnt be surprised" if ginga was out there waiting this week - yet they still got caught.

.I dont know the full story behind all this but it seems if the inside information of your route is from someone on the-uh-inside theres two ways to go.either TEXT everyone the route,or put a bogus one on here.Either way, look forward to riding with you all again real soon, the frostbite is beginning to piss me off....

remember I'm still running the bike in so legal begal speeds, and its wof/reg, got licence etc.. will be fun..

And I am bringing my camera, I can take as many photos as I like in a public place, of whomever I want.

(they may or may not end up on here)

even with the bike run in you'd be lucky to twist the wrist enough to break 100.. i've seen you ride :bleh:

meh meh.... give me a call and we can go for a spin bro :niceone:

Officer number CWG610. i have two license losses from him, and he was the only officer who was there both times.

He is based in warkwarth - which he has always said too. he lives in new zealand I think.

So I guess everyone will be rearing to go for a ride this Thursday?

Was keen to come last week so that I could test out my replacement Radar Detector, seems as though it might have been a good night for it too.

Decided to pull the pin on the ride though as I still need to get my chain sorted (its too loose and one of the adjusters is siezed). With it being so loose its making the gear changes really crunchy so not good for all those expensive gear dogs.

Thought about riding the 250 then though better of it, glad I did, doesn't sound like a good night was had by all.

If my chains sorted by Thursday I'll probably be along, dependant on weather of course.

Moreover, of the folk that got tickets, were there any that DIDN'T do the shit they got the ticket for? Not stirring, just asking.
Or alternatively, were there any that were pinged that hadn't done worse things on the road at other times that they weren't pinged for?

Yeah, that IS a valid point - Cant have Steve coming home with a fat head again.... BUT......... the fact that Shortland Street is on tonight, he might stay home with his slippers on and be a Nana.

Im not going to say anything, lets see if he reads the thread when he gets home......:msn-wink:
