Brilliant ride last night - And with NO cops involved........
40 Bikes made the effort :niceone: with some fine riding done, no complains from Joe Public either.........so the ATNR is not as bad as it sounds does it Mr.Vifferman? :p
Even though its dangerous and (heaven forbit me) law breaking.......... you cant help but smile when someone pops a mean mono alongside you.... or a two-up mono in front of you.......nice one BTW....

No, it were blardymarvellous!
I had a great time, and really enjoyed the second bit of the ride - did you enjoy following me, Qkchk*? Or did I need to take the restrictor outta the zorst so you could get the full V4 soundtrack?
I must take more time at the next ATNR to migle and meet people. :o
* Qkchk was following me only by chance, not because I ride better'n'her (I don't).

Even more amazing than there being no cops last night :second:, was the fact that NOBODY pissed off to the PUB early.
Must be the first time ever that every rider did the second part of the ride. Mean effort considering I counted 43 bikes at Dairy Flat.:first:
Oh yeh I do love the second part of that run!!!!!!!!! Ah the home stomping grounds.

Oh, but we did meet, Young Ms Kittyhawk. :shifty:
Do you not recall excitedly retelling the "We wheelied two-up!" tale, and being asked if you contributed by leaning back?
Then again, perhaps not.
I have an almost chameleon-like ability to blend into the background. Perhaps I should seek employment as a secret agent, or arseassin...

Black's somewhat OK for hiding road spooge, but it shows the dust'n'dirt rather badly. My VFR750 was a bastid for that: the paint was black (so attracted dust'n'dirt), and the wheels were white (so they sucked up all the road spooge).
This blue one's worse though - it sucks up scratches from somewhere.

Yeah - that's it! The roads.
Yeah definitely the roads.
Although the ones on the tank are from our Norflund holiday in Easter 2006.
I neglected to check the underside of the tankbag, and picked up some grit on our 60km or so of riding on gravel roads. :o

Oh dear!!! Was there a BIN or was some twit being inconsiderate?
Details please - but please don't name and shame or identify the bike, I'm sure the rider should recognise themselves.
I'm a big believer in CONSTRUCTIVE criticism so unless the rider was confronted last night how are they to know that their behaviour was not appreciated by all?
Also this is NOT a dig at Devil or an attempt at putting him on the spot, I truely beleive that some online debriefing after the ride could help the supposedly poor reputation of the ATNR.

Ride at your own risk.
There is a big difference between Newbie mistakes - and Testosterone fueled reckless abandon.
My proposal was to generate a non confrontational method in which one could say...
"to the guy who overtook me on the double yellows at the top of the crest, that was fuckin stupid and the oncoming car that had to brake and pull over to the side, scared the shit out of me. But because I didn't want to create a public specticule and ruin the evening for all those who just "want to ride, meet up at a pub talk and meet other bikers...." I let it slip"
My proposal was that the "offending" rider should remain anonymous and the complaint should be made after the "offended" has had time too cool down, all in an attempt to prevent any serious anamousity to arise.
Please tell me how else one is meant to raise any such issue with out stuffing up the night?
And as for "ride at your own risk" I hope that was a PT.

It happens. No matter how much people debrief etc when the helmet goes on, bike starts up, you're in a different mode, different frame of thinking.
In most cases there is always one on a ride...(I'll put my hand up and say yes I've done it)
Best way to sort it, go up and punch the fucker over. Name and shame why? because people know right from wrong.
The only way to get the message across is in a negative manner..Skidmark is an example, people dont compliment him on his riding, only mention the negative.

Agreed but that's fucken hard to do if you're lying in a ditch somewhere, bounced off a tree, gone through a fence or are left standing on the side of the road waiting for 28 days to get your license back.
If I EVER do something dumb - I want people to point it out. That's what a true friend will do - bugger being popular. The one and only time I've shouted at SkidMark was for exactly that reason - he put his life and the life of a good friend of mine at risk.
Whether I choose to learn from that is over to me. Likewise if anyone EVER does something that puts me or mine at risk... I'll similarly have words.
If a debrief helps then all well and good. What's the downside? And what about those with poor risk assessment? Do I stand back and watch them hurt themselves? No - HELL no. I can't do that in good conscience.

The most anyone can do is give advice or guide. We have people to police the roads for a reason. No one can control another on a machine of grace. Certian inputs create negative and unpredictable outputs, but one must remember that at the end of the day, anyone out on a road could always be close to death.
I see it if people fuck it up, put others at risk etc, then they should not be welcome back to the group, however we have no control over riding on the roads as this is a public environment.
As for those with poor risk assesment...do we ride with strait jackets on??

In extreme examples yes, but we haven't reach that point with anyone yet (have we?) and as you point out - what're we going to do? We only have control over ourselves so a quiet wander to KFC Westgate might be the order of the day?
As for those with poor risk assesment...do we ride with strait jackets on?? No - we point it out to them when they do something stupid and do what we can to increase their chances of survival.
Should they be THAT bad they are a constant risk to themselves and others - I'd ring the cops and have them re-assess their entitlement to use a vehicle on public roads. Curtailing the freedom of an individual not worthy of it is the much better option relative to someone getting hurt... lety alone dying.
I'd do it in a heartbeat.

In extreme examples yes, but we haven't reach that point with anyone yet (have we?) and as you point out - what're we going to do? We only have control over ourselves so a quiet wander to KFC Westgate might be the order of the day?
No - we point it out to them when they do something stupid and do what we can to increase their chances of survival.
Should they be THAT bad they are a constant risk to themselves and others - I'd ring the cops and have them re-assess their entitlement to use a vehicle on public roads. Curtailing the freedom of an individual not worthy of it is the much better option relative to someone getting hurt... lety alone dying.
I'd do it in a heartbeat.
I dont see the point in increasing the chances of survival because no matter how safe you are out there on the roads, there will always be someone else who will stuff it up for you. We could all be riding along in safety bubbles wear all the safety gear and still someone would get inside and hurt you. There is one kber, whom I told him "too much power too soon, you dont have experience to naturally control it should things go wrong" hate to say it, but he's not with us anymore..I told him, he brushed it off and laughed at me. I walked away shaking my head. How do I feel now? heartless I tried, but people are stubborn will do what they want when they want.
*sighs* Im warning you now, you better ring the cops in advance before I get my next bike.

I've never met you directly but I understand your a pretty good sort (based on people I know who know you) - but dude, you gotta give more room to other riders on the ATNR. Overtaking on fast sweeping corners may be all fine and dandy for you but some others (me for one) don't like being forced that close to other riders. A few ATNR rides ago you did this to me at the top of old north road where they go mountain bike riding...I was forced to adjust my line and brake heavily to allow you to come back into the correct line (you overtook me in the same lane as me while I was on the full lean) - I was pissed rightly at you that night...I went looking for you at the pub to give you an ear full but you weren't there...probably just as well in hindsight. Anyway, I'm not trying to take the piss but when I read this comment from you I was compelled to say something. My only comment is that I don't want to ride hard out with people I don't know - who also don't know me. The ATNR in my view is not a good venue for this type of riding. Like NinjaNana said I have no problem with people going as fast as they want but don't force me to share your risk...ensure that, if you are going to go hard, you ONLY place yourself at risk and no other road users.
Sorry if you take this the wrong way...its supposed to be constructive.

Have I missed something here?
Since when did ANYONE bin on last weeks ride?
I would hope if any one of you have been seriously offended by someone elses' riding attitude, you would let me know as per Post #1 of this thread:
"...........Anyone who is caught endangering others by their actions will be asked to leave the ride and may be refused entry to forthcoming rides! (As we have had seen in the past)................ "
By the term Endangering - Hitting a kill switch on someone elses handlebar while motion is a good example........or running people off the road. There have been a few serious contenders for this "instant dismissal" but usually this is resolved by a few serious word with the offender.

Not taken the wrong way mate, Noel (the stranger) gave me a yell the next day to ask what I had done, and I was truly supprised.
I actually overtook both of you on the same corner and he was happy with the space givern (though we have ridden together a reasonable amount), also I should note that it was round the outside, so if I had a moment, then it wouldnt affect you.
I was actually on the other side of the road and didnt pull back in till I was past Noel (in front of you) so not sure why you were braking or adjusting your line (maybe I gave you a bit of a fright :dodge:)
To be fair i thought at the time that you were probably being a bit of a sook, But like you I know people that know you who seem to think your ok.
Anyway no drama, introduce yourself next time (or I will if I see ya first)

Yeah, yeah.
Biggles said that he had to brake hard and move left to let you back onto the left-hand side of the road after you overtook him.
Sounds like you:
A. Bit off more than you could chew with the overtake - if you'd made it stick properly, he should have been able to hold his line and squirt off the apex without needing to brake as you dipped back in.
B. Were riding as though Old North Road was a racetrack with runoff space and no oncoming traffic.
All things considered, it sounds as though you had a bit of the old red mist going on and were more or less being a twat.
Good lessons to be learned, problem won't occur again, I'm sure, glad to see we're all responsible adults who handle things maturely, etc.

fuggin troll - back under your bridge.
Expressing a genuine opinion ain't trolling, even if it might rile a couple of people up.
Nobody had pointed out the meat of the matter, ie, that the issue arose from Archer failing to make his pass stick properly, so I thought I'd chuck in my $0.02 worth.
Edit: If I was trolling, I'd be asking why an R1 couldn't put at least a bike length's distance on a 636 during an outside pass, and making a few snide power-to-weight jokes, but that'd just be asking for far too many witty and entirely well-deserved comebacks, so here's me, shutting my mouth...

I'm taking Biggles' word for what happened. Archer didn't argue with it, so it seems to be an accepted version of events.
A bit of clarity around the "don't go around the outside of someone on the wrong side of the road unless you can positively, definitely make it stick" point never goes amiss.

The onus is always on the passer to do it safely and make it stick.
If the guy being passed feels bad about it, it was a bad pass. End of story. Gotta live by that rule, or everything turns to custard.
If I ever go around someone and they tell me later they didn't like it, they'll have my unreserved, weasel-word-free apology.

Oh Jrandom re the power to weight ratio thingie...I was actually riding my ZX9R not the 636 at the time so that would explain that a bit better.
I still think the ATNR is a little too much of a 'my nuts are bigger than yours' type of a ride and more care needs to be taken around the twisties and other bikes, its not just this event I'm referring to its in general. I go on plenty of rides with my mates and sometimes we have upto 10 bikes on a ride but everyone seems to respect each others space way better than riders on the ATNR (In general).
I personally don't actually really enjoy the riding part of the ATNR as much as the get together at the pub generally...but every time I decide to come I can't bring myself 'not to ride' and go straight to the pub...so maybe I'll just hang about with tail end from now. Just some food for thought people and ArcherWC, I'll buy at the next one ok:beer:

Looking forward to the beer mate.
Just to put the record straight too, JRandom, best keep your opinions to yourself especially when stating as if they are fact.
The only people involved or anywhere near the event were myself, biggles and the stranger.
1. I actually pulled back into the lane in front of the stranger who was in front of biggles.
2. I could see well past the corner, so knew there was no oncoming traffic
3. there was no red mist, I just had to get to a dinner date (why you couldnt find me at dairy flat)
4. I most definatly do NOT treat the ride as a race (kinda did when I first started doing them), I keep my racing on the track and are generally pretty sedate considering the potential of the bike I ride
Anyway, biggles and I had sorted things as the two involved and didnt need you sticking your oar in
surely this is enough about this on the forum, if Biggles want to say anything else, thats his perogative (and no one elses) and he will be getting my apology in person (not on line) for giving him a fright :love:

I pretty much agree with you on this one. I think part of it is that there is so many different riders on different types of bikes, so no one really knows the pecking order, so to speak.
I generally ride with people of a similar ability on similar types of bikes away from this ride and you definatly dont get the issues.
However, as a social ride, the ATNR is all good
