Next week is the end of daylight savings .... Dawn do you think we should do an ATNR memorial ride and then pronounce it dead?

Best idea I've seen in a while. It hasn't been the ATNR for a LONG time IMO

Had a nice ride on Thurs. back from Murawai... with a Ferrari. :Punk:
Have thought this would be a good route for an ATNR. Go watch the sun go down.
Some nice little roads around that side of the island.
Work, Weather and the Ginger Coont have decimated the ranks of riders keen to socialise on Thurs. nights. Be interesting to see how many Thurs. nights saw rain over the last year.
A new gang, keen to ride without attracting the attention of the aforementioned toe rag, new routes and dinner places may see a revival of the ride.
The SATR seems to be suffering the same fate.
They didn't have a jack-booted nemesis intent on destroying their ride.
They did have a variety of very good m/bike roads, a variety of dinner venues and some real characters.
So why the lack of interest?
Are we victims of the general malaise affecting the nation.

I'm keen when I get my license back, and get a new bike. Everything seems to be dying down these days, NASS is another example. Sad times...sad times.

I understand motorcycles sales are way down. Lots of dealerships closed in the last 24 months.
So I think there is simply less people riding bikes at the moment.

I do hope you are not suggesting I am a lesser person than those who no longer ride.
I'm sure you meant fewer people are riding. <_<

Thanks everybody for the ride and for looking after me!
Now I can't wait for the full licence and do it again of a touring stuff. Catch up during winter ATNRs.
P.S. Do I need to pay for the toll road that we went through on the way back?

The QK's and I plus others are heading north on Anzac day if the weather's good
calandar event here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&ea=attend&e=3003&c=1
Time: Leave 8:30 return whenever
Route: via the twisties - direction to be decided
Gathering point: Caltex Dairy Flat (same place as the Auckland regular sunday ride north)
Who: anyone comfortable at sustained highway speeds, doesn't fall off on corners, can do 200kms between stops and happy to ride 600 odd kms in a day.
If you actually state you'll be attending then we'll be more likely to wait for you if you are running late, if you don't then we won't.
Like most rides there will be different levels of riders some fast some not (I'm not) just find your spot in the group and enjoy the day.
Cheers

Historically it would be from Z westgate then around a route decided on the night to end up usually at bar africa in albany.
It has been learner friendly to an extent but you would need to be able to keep up a solid 100k's and be relatively confident in the corners. really depends on the group that turns up as to how learner friendly the ride is.

What: A ride up some great backroads finishing with Dinner and Drinks:shifty:
When: Every Thursday night after work (WEATHER PERMITTING!):sunny:
Where: Shell WESTGATE (end of the North Western Motorway)
Why: To meet other KBers, kick tyres and talk about Motorbikes:ride:
Time: Meeting there from 6.30pm, ride brief and departure @ 7pm
How: On ya bike, silly!
Pace: Open to all as long as you can do 100kph:chase:
IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT ABOUT WEATHER/RIDING CONDITIONS IT WILL BE POSTED UP HERE 5PM ON THE DAY OF THE RIDE.
With Winter riding, it is best practise to use clear visors - please keep the tints/irridiums for the summer riding! We will be riding in the dark, dont ya know! Wrap up warm, as you are at the risk of getting fatigued faster by the cold. :cold:
Weekly ride after work finishing off with Dinner and Drinks at BAR AFRICA Cnr of William Pikering Dr and Omega Place, Albany. Anyone who cannot come/not keen on riding is still very welcome to join us at the pub for a social get-together 8.30pm onwards (bring ya cage if ya want..)......
The route will be discussed on the night for a good reason :Police:. The ATNR is known to the Police, so if you wish to do 140+ speeds, suggest you go and do it somewhere else.......For those concerned about distance/time the ride will last for approx 1hr - 1half and is around 70kms long. We start at Westgate and finish up at Albany. The route is changed from time to time depending on group numbers and road conditions.
* * * * *
Disclaimer: You participate on this ride at your own risk. I will not be held accountable for anyones actions, to/from and during the ride.. Anyone who is caught endangering others by their actions may be asked to leave the ride and refused entry to forthcoming rides!
I will not be responsible for people ending up at Wellsford due to not listening to instructions nor the pointer system failing.......... :nono:

so how did the resurrection ride go?
The Teutonic Gremlins resurfaced and prevented Gunnyrob from getting Max out of the driveway.
Rob's enthusiasm for the ride and best remedial efforts proved to be little deterrence to their evil machinations and Max's lifeless form was wheeled back into the garage.
Love, care and money (lots of it) have proved to be powerless in preventing the realisation of their goals by the many and varied insidious means they have thus far exploited.
I have no doubt that Rob has considered the long established remedy for destroying Gremlins by immolation but his love for Max has shown itself to be superior to his carnal desire to fuck them over and so cremation of Max has been avoided.
I suggest an intervention or spiritual cleansing may be in order. Should we perhaps appeal to the Biker Gods on Rob's behalf? Beg their indulgence and request some divine intervention by the enlistment and engagement of the powers of good, love, beauty and light to overcome the forces of evil that continue to attack his beloved ride.

Cop said Hi, then left.
Beer or two was drunk, Wedges and Chups ate.

So considerate - Good on you.
But really, when you think about it, Summer is a crap time for riding a bike.
So hot the sweat runs down your the middle of your back and then ....Not that pleasant.
There are cages everywhere, wanking day trippers wandering all over the road looking at the sights instead of where they are going.
The roads melt and you slide all over the place, and bugs...bugs for Africa - getting in your teeth...Yuk!
Gimme Spring or Autumn. That's the best time to ride.
Road gets washed regularly, nice and grippy. Not too hot. You actually get to stop to pee instead of expelling it through your skin.
That's my favourite time.
Winter can be good too. Especially after a frosty start to the day. Brilliant blue skies - Lovely.
The Cold Kiwi is always an adventure.
Rock on Winter.

Met a world traveller :scooter:a few years back and he choose his routes so the temp was always between 18-24C otherwise he stored his bike and went home till condition came good again, he may have been a bit soft but he had been doing it a while so wisdom could have been in that also
My pet peeve is a wet dry road, it needs to be one or the other as nothing can spoil your favourite road more than a wet patch just at the wrong place in a corner.
Cold morning are nice if sun is out or its just foggy as long as heated grips are on full

There's no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing. Winter days in the sun - Woohoo!
Problem with summer riding is you can't take off enough clothing and the law doesn't allow you to go fast enough to cool down.

Cool, its the pointer system when we only have a few bikes that kill it, as anyone up front soon gets pegged back as a pointer :( then im all alone again

Ok google is being highly unhelpful. What exactly is the pointer system? Other than a "good and safe way to ride"

It's a system used in a group situation ride whereby, the front rider waits at a corner/turn until everyone is around said corner, then proceeds to carve up the group to get to the front again, the last part is not a safe practice when there are learners within the group, which is why the system is not used on our group rides, we ride as groups, and if it so happens that any group stretches out, it is up the lead rider to manage/correct the speed until the others have caught up. The more people knowing the route the better. Different systems work for different rides. We have had lead riders just fuck off and seemingly not give a shit about what's going on behind them, makes for an interesting change of scenery at times, but they wont be used in that roll again.

ATNR needs to go back to being a race to the pub, and most bins wins.
Not a hi vis parade.

Well it's only 1850 some of the non posters may turn up.
I usually meet them at the pub after doing my own thing. Cause I'm not as fast as the rest of you. I'll be at least 45min till I've finishe up here.

Hi Guys,
I'm doing the Learners version of the Thursday night rides. Basically its for those who want to keep their licences :bleh:. Nah its really just a slower ride for those who are new to groups or aren't comfortable/don't feel like going for a blat.
Because of this lovely weather were meeting at the Oteha Mobil at 6 and are thinking of doing 16 to Wellsford. And we end up at the same pub as the big kids!!.......Just a bit later!
(really its cause I hate holding people up, its not their fault I'm a learner.)
