Hi NUTBAR,
The ride meets at Shell Westgate at 6:30 (see first post of thread). If the weather is crap (or we are just feeling too old ), we tend to just go to Bar Africa
I'm keen for a ride tonight, although I'm not sure the weather will play nice. I'll check the rain radar a bit later.

I get weekend days off occaisionally though. downside is its usually only 1 day and have heaps to do, combined with getting on it the night before and being a bit hungover.
on another note, chain and sprockets go on tomorrow, downgearing it like craaaaazy hehe but yeah thursday night is on like donkey kong.

It was a Good ride Gunner at the for and the Blue chook chaser at the tail.
Apparently according to the BMW GS rider we stuck close to the speed limit so its obvious my speedo is out quite bit

Well as the guys and gals at the pub already know, last night we had an additional Tail and Charlie of the tin can variety. Whilst I'll honestly say having a marked police car tail me for about 1/3 of the ride somewhat detracted from my ride, I must also say I was impressed by this cop.
For all the slack they get on this website, under no circumstances did I feel like I was being threatened, tormented, goaded. He/she wasn't trying to be a dick and on many corners fell a little behind, so it wasn't a game for them. It must have become obvious after a short time that I wasn't about to do anything dumb, yet the cop never bothered to over take me so they could catch up with the rest of the group. So I'm quite certain they weren't out there specifically to check on us last night.
Above all what really impressed me was that the disco lights never came on at all. I'd thought for sure that given the supposedly current "motorcycle safety campaign" they'd at least have pulled me over for a quick roadside check.
All up a good policing experience, I didn't do anything dumb, they didn't do anything dumb and everyone went on their own little way happy.

it's all bullshit, they aren't targeting us or filling quota against us... it's just idiot riders being fuckwits who are asking for trouble that are the ones complaining about being targeted. I ride everyday, rain or shine, incorrect license, rego on hold- I don't act like a fuckwit in risky areas and consequently don't get pulled over.

You have no idea.
These cops will cooerce you into breaking the law. there are many on here who will tell of stories such as non-descript hyundais tailgaiting riders with high beams on until the rider speeds off in annoyance. there is quite a list.
I am probably the undisputed record holder of loosing my license on this ride, and yes, i can say every incident i was being daft. but at the same time ive been around the ride long enough to see what the cops do when people arent doing stupid stuff and making it easy for them to take licenses.

Seemed like a lot of attention for what was a relatively relaxed ride. Guess the rumors of old were true eh.

Well if there was one thing to be hammered severely into my head tonight. It would be "Learner Rider".
- Miss judging corner entry speeds
- Intimidation from the wet due to recent wet weather round about incident.
- Trying hard not to hold up other riders.
- $100 fine for not displaying L plates.
- $100 fine for exceeding 70km/h as per license restrictions by 24km/h
- 35 Demerit Points.
All that aside though, the ride was still really great. Even in the wet-ish.
I never knew some of those roads even existed until tonight, and they are quite well kept too. Was good to meet a few people who enjoy riding as much as I do.
I wasn't really sure what to expect when turning up, was a little above my skill level I think. However, that just makes me want to get out and practice even more than before. Looks like I'll need to find somebody suitable to guide me in the right direction.
Before that though, I should really get off my *** and buy an L plate. Then go sit my restricted so that this doesn't happen again, heh.

Welcome aboard Newo, ATNR is probably not the best place for a learner rider, could I suggest you take a look at the NASS (North Auckland Street Skills) thread and ride.
Also the Regular Sunday ride covers a wider spread, but you will still need to be able to do open road speeds to keep up.

Good to see you recognize the issues. Someone mentioned it ended up being quite a technical ride yesterday and the wet only compounded that (I had a couple of small slides, and witnessed a decent one).
The main thing is to ride your own ride, I think we'd all rather wait an extra couple minutes than pick you up out of the ditch. If someone wants to get past they'll wait for a suitable moment.
And for what it's worth you were riding ok for the small amount I was behind you... seen plenty worse (Myself included).

Have no idea what happened man. We just turned off somewhere and waited... then the guy on the bandit (sorry don't know who you are) went to look for you whilst me and the RC8 stay put and smiled at the police that cruised past us :) .

We stopped off at the Albany (bottom of hill) and they took pretty good care of us.
8:00PM should be safe at the Old Albany Inn - the 'exotic' waitresses selling raffles will have left by then
I'm gonna miss the ride this week, but I'll be at Bar Africa later for Floyd.

It's the L plate that causes a little trouble at the moment.
I assume its her bike with the L-plate, given that you ride a 750.

Unfortunately my bike doesn't have pillion pegs. But, she has got a helmet, and jacket, pants, boots, gloves etc. And her own bike!

Congrats - always good to get it out of the way.
Not sure if it would suit, but if you'd like to try a "faster" 250 I have a 2 Stroke you can try? Surely the volty is getting boring by now?

Might have to get off my butt and come to another one of these. This time with a Tightened front axle bolt. The last time, the pinch bolts were loose and the axle had backed out 2 inches!! wondered why the front felt off, it clunked on wheelies and the brakes needed pumping up... they were pulling the front wheel back into line!
Oh well the offending mechanics collegues put it right pretty quick.

I'd be careful if you do. Being St Paddy's there'll be a few intoxicated cage drivers rolling around the roads this evening

Just a reminder - If you're scraping bits of your car, it means too much guiness, not too much lean angle

I don't think Suzy GSX250s are really regarded as Adventure bikes.
Rain here kept me at home.

Na it was still a great ride, went and saw the family along peak road as well so was overall good, just so happy i didn't bail, i don't think it would go to well as an adventure bike either

The few times I've been before they start heading off about 7pm maybe a few minutes after, I guess gives everyone time if they're running late.
Sunday ride from dairy flat, from 9:30 for a 10am start - if weathers good and the wife is in a good mood I'll be there :D
