I usually do 2 circuits when practicing, then stop and chill out before getting back to it. Today I made a lot of progress and on my 3rd run stayed out longer - and did the ol 'just a little bit higher' - ive verted before and been sweet, but I think I slipped off the back, I eventually let go and the rear went down on the right, and hard onto the left.

Pics arent too good, show how bad the bars got it (just like the cage) and the twisted forks (which are now straight :) )

I scraped both the tailight and headlight :D

Morcs & I were there along with one other ATNRider & 3 top folks from the southern crowd. We set off in a smattering of showers for the short loop.

Friendly cages gave us a hint of what was ahead (flashing headlights) & first plod was seen just afore SH16. Noted speed limit in Waitoki is now only 50kmh, then Morcs came to grief just out of town:Police::doh:

After a quick sort out it was off to the pub for a debrief. Three cops had targeted the ride. Watch out boys & girls!

Anyone who has a route or roads they want to try out or volunteer for use on the ATNR can forward their recommendations to me via PM (dont post up here or Mr Plod will know....) I will have a look at them and implement them if it fits the criteria:


Got to be accessed from Westgate (Within 5km radius or within the normal ATNR route)
Think of how many intersections there are (The more stops/intersections, the easier it is to lose people)
Is it a safe road? (Got to consider if it is in good condition/no gravel)
Got to finish at Albany (So we can drop into the normal spot for Dinner)
Has got to fit into a ridable route. (Has to be linked up)


Also, if anyone wants to volunteer to do the leading on any ATNR (as long as you know the route we will be taking) come up and let me know.

The offense itself (on my most sedate, slow and sensible ATNR in 1 1/2 years):

After 'cowcop' I was behind a cage, I overtook him. At the same time noticed a marked car parked in a drive on the left. Checked my mirrors... indicator on.... then disco lights.

I had overtaken a car at 134 on double yellows, in the wet, riding a thou on a 6R, and also taking a pillion - but perfectly safely.

Although there was plenty of clear road to safely overtake (even in the wet) I had to break the speed limit to do so. I was very lucky to not get a dangerous driving charge.

Of course I was on 165 demerits and my license was yet to be taken - so the officer kindly relieved me of it.

The fines are a bitch though - for the actual offence itself - $150. fair enough.
For riding a thou with a pillion on a restricted - $800.
Something is wrong with the fines system methinks... :duh:

this is weird?? every time I don't make it to the ride shit happens! O.K so last week we had a minor bin but I missed the first ride of the year (10/1/8 unofficial), and someone is snapped at 165. Before that I missed the last ride of 07 and there was a multiple bin. 5-6 weeks before I was on every ride and NOTHING not even any plod! come to think of it, I have never seen any plod on any of the rides I'v been on.

First ATNR for me for ages.
The Karma was bad right from the start. Picked up a loan bike at 6.30--tyres half flat and bike haddn't been ridden in over 12 months.
Never ridden this bike so hmmm
Air in tyres helped a bit. Fresh gas in tank got rid of the flat as a pancake feeling in the engine.
Helmet visor rattling like 1000 bastards -then realised I'd fitted the spare visor from my race shoei--4mm longer each side -sheesh
first couple of K's was fine then the misty rain came down. Crack the throttle open a fraction and the back wheels doing 30km/h faster than the front--ohh joy.
10 km into the ride trying to get to grips with the bike I get to a single lane bridge. Aproaching from the other way is a cage. He slows -Im thinking -cool he's giving way to me -Im committed to going on the bridge but er No he wasn't giving way to me -Think skinny frosty--VERY skinny
We passed one another fuck knows how.
-BTW--Cage had right of way --I fucked up not him/her.
5 minutes later I thought fuck this Im just not game to carry on-and my wrist hurts like buggery --I was ready to turn back

First ATNR for me ever, though knew alot of ppl from the Northern Exposure tour last anniversary weekend. Good fun, misty rain was a prick, but still lots of fun, there was a ute coming the other way towards the end of Gt Nth Rd at the bottom of the uphill twisties at the Peak Rd intersection. Anyway I see him start to go sideways on his right hander just as he is approaching me and in that split second knew I was OK cos he was turning inwards towards his road side, but Hinny (Keith) was behind me, I look in mirror to see the ute take to the dirt beside the road on his side, shit flying all over, and everyone safe. But talked to another guy at Dairy Flat who said the ute came back on the road ending up sideways straddling his lane, the guy had a very sphincter moment as visions of an overtaking car ends up in his side of the road. Good thrash up the uphill twisties on Albany hill was enjoyed by all.
Night ended at the Africa pub (used to be called brick something) and apart from good yack to all, highlight was a blondie lying topless on the next table with salt in her belly button, shot of tequila between titties and slice of lemon in her mouth, and a guy straddling her consuming each in turn!! Think I may make the ATNR a regular for me :cool:

Ive only been riding since mid 05 and the ATNR didn't begin until sometime around mid 06 i'm pretty sure.

I never meant to offend steve and dawn, they do a top job putting it on, and for some it's great, but so many people get busted, i mean how thick do you have to be to still do dumb shit on a ride that is the most well known for being cop infested, the police themselves have said they will always be there!

I just don't see the logic. All i meant was maybe just have the pub at the end, the ride gets too much cop attention.

We don't seem to have this problem on the Wednesday night ride down here. I guess they go a bit quick for the po po from these parts. Actually
they don't usually decide where they're going till just before leaving. Keeps them guessing.

... just to confirm we're all on the same page here... you are talking about the Auckland Thursday Night Ride... right? It's actually a Traffic Cop training exercise where newbies can get the hang of radars, writing tickets, taking licenses and imounding vehicles.

Well I had a friggin ball tonight--plenty of riders. I did TEC because I had Jorja with me as a virgin ATNRer.
Thoughroughly enjoyed myself on the mighty GS500 taking corners at the legal speed.
Bloody good crowd and from what I saw very little hoonish activity.
Only downer was the point men who diddn't meaning one rider is on his way to wellsford still.
First stop and Jorja moved into the crowd so I had some fun playing catchup.
