Not to forget bad or dangerous driving ........

Correct on this...plus I'm sure there are many other reasons that you/I could list but your getting the point.

Hell ... yup you are Dead Cool, a menace on the roads and with your head stuck up your a$$, nice mix. A real temporary New Zealander.:bye:

You have just confirmed my thoughts titanium, you are one of these small minded people who have been hooked in line and sinker into believing that you know best regarding road safety and whoever has a different opinion on this subject (the dreaded speed) is a 'menace on the roads with their head up their arse." Don't you realize that you have turned this debate/disagreement into a personal attack on the person you disagree with as opposed to putting forward reasons for your opinion. BTW, you have also presumed that I 'speed' just because I'm defending those who do. Have you ever ridden with me? Have you ever seen my decision making on the road? Not that I recall so you telling me that I'm a temporary New Zealander means about as much tits on a bull....but good on you mate, keep your head buried in the sand of this lovely country called NZ!

There's a few of them out there... those that believe that speed in itself kills... they're the same people who believe that global warming is a threat, and the Iraqs had anything to do with 9/11.

You nanas should all just STFU.

Its a ride, people know the risks, and we can bitch about it all we want when we get caught.

Nothing wrong with that.

When you've had a cock of a police officer telling you whats for, the last thing you want is a load of people that you consider your 'friends' treating and lecturing you in the same way.

Hey...

Correct me if I'm wrong but no one is bitching about people speeding or people bitching about getting a ticket (it sucks I've been there)... more along the lines of bitching that a cop dares catch people on the ATNR, yes it is an easy target. We all know this.

Now if said cop has broken the law and is witnessed doing so, then by all means follow the correct procedures and take him to task, as he is not above the law. Someone stated they he nearly caused and accident and may have caused R6_kid's have any of you reported this... just a question... as there has been a lot of bitching about his(cops) behaviour...

emotions have been running high on this thread eh!

whoever it was that was giving biggles08 shit, leave him alone, his girls been out of town for 5 weeks, the mans about to explode.

i was actually having quite a cruisy night, until i came to the long down hill straight where i decided to catch up to the two bikes at the bottom of the hill...i think a radar detector is on the shopping list now.

thanks to my mates for backing me, and getting me home, much appreciated.

lost my license for 28 days and $630 fine...shit happens! the law is the law, i know where the boundaries are and i'm not emotionally traumatized from this.

riding a fast bike is like having a hard on people, what are you gonna do, look at it, or use the fuckin' thing?

i may give it a bit too much of the right hand [occasionally] but i my defense i alway endeavour to be courteous around other drivers. :innocent:

Fuck off!!! This wanker was not there for any other reason than to stroke his own wiener to see if it makes him feel like a man! :angry2::brick:

To think I was defending the cops less than 2 weeks ago!!!??? You know why though, EvilTwin, BIGGBOSSMAN and myself were out having a go on SH16 when we stopped for a cig break at the end of Woodcocks Rd...a coppa turns up, pulls over and has a chin wag with us just for the hell of it. Turns out he rides a TL1000, comes from Dublin (Important point this) and isn't interested in merely lining Helen's pocket! This FUCKWIT last night was an arrogant c%#t with the integrity of a worm! just doing his job my arse! The dude from Dublin is what I would refer to as a cop "doing his job" properly! The reason in my opinion why the Dublin cop was a 'good' cop is that he has been brought up in an environment that isn't sheltered like here in little ol NZ. He hasn't been brainwashed by this agenda the govt has to turn the average punter into a crim. 'Mr Dublin' was a coppa with experience and knew the difference between the real crims and the guys who just like riding bikes a little faster than what the majority 'dumb' people in NZ call a safe speed!?! I can see people getting all up and bitchy about this post but the fact remains "SPEED DOES NOT KILL" and never will....people 'speed' quite legally in Germany every day without dieing....its the dickhead who can't ride/drive properly that is the killer.

It is obvious that these cops last night were waiting for us....why were they waiting for us? They are waiting because they want to 'target' decent people who they will justify are criminals by hiding behind a stupid law that is easy to police....In my opinion, policing an 'easy law' doesn't make you good at your job or even "just doing your job"...it makes you a wanker!!! If the Cop who did the damage last night is reading this...YOU ARE A WAIST OF SPACE NAZI!

Sort your shit out.

perhaps people speeding on a country road is only pissing off ummm a few sheep and a cow or 2?
someone breaking into a house every week is annoying actual people.

Wrong... it's actually pissing off two coppers that live on that road.

I've said it before, new root each week?

I have to gloat tho' I was behind a marked car today getting on the NWestern to come home and they took off to 110 in the 80 zone and then to 130 in the hundred zone, must have known I was following so around ST Lukes I decided to pass (they had shifted to the centre lane now and I was still in the fast lane) so inch by inch I crept by at around a 135 and thought if I get pulled over I hit them up about their speed for the whole time, have to admit I was feeling cheeky and nearly didn't do it but was pissed they were hooning around but no lights etc, as I go by they are having a full on conversation gesticulating and looking at each other heaps blah, blah. The guy driving looks at me as I pass, for a while, grins at me and goes back to chatting with his mate. I was off, just under the loss of licence speed and they faded in my mirror. WEIRD!

Gay for you guys, you know the magic number tho'. You can apply makeup, talk on the phone, change CD's at 95 in a hundy zone safe as but 120 on a sprotsbike on a dry straight is like sticking your pecker in the Queens bum, gets scratchy and.........
well.............
not good anyhow.

So, meet up as per, round the corner and a brief on a new route for the night? There are tons of places to go. The cops are being dicks, I have to say that most I've met recently are great guys but they aren't going to be the ones given the special mission of catching regular nusance riders that are interfering with some other cops downtime eh.

Just my 2c.

PS, If you weren't there you can post riding tips in "Survival Skills" this thread is about ATNR.

Do they go to a shooting and let the gunman walk around for a while longer to see if they can't do them for killing more people and lock them up for even longer?

You might think thats not that relevant but if they genuinely believe that you have a good chance of hurting yourself or anyone else at a speed abonve the legal limit they should stop you straight away not go fishing for a bigger catch! If they think you are endangering others they are using those lifes at risk to add a few more K's to your ticket. Do you really think that would be acceptable of a police officer?

Most speedo's overread by an average of 7.5%, add in the 11kph lenience zone, at clock speed of 120kph you would be most doing 111kph real speed - not outside the leniency zone.

Actually you're wrong on that one... the whole point of the 10kph leniency is to cover for the fact that your speedo may read up to 10% out. You can't have 10kph then claim another 10%.

No, im correct. Im not combining them in the calculation.

120 clock speed > translates with speedo innacuracy of 7.5% = real speed of 111kph.

So its right on the border of the leniency :D

Thats why I will sit on the motorway at 120 (clock speed) and have never been pulled for it...

Well I can't say why you've not been pulled over, but the leniency of 10% is definitely because of the fact that your speedo may misread.

How fast we go is up to each of us, but lets not let the newbies think they can run around everywhere at 120kph and think it's legal.

Well I don't know anything about last night as I wasn't there, but in my case I believe the copper pulled a number outta the air and was themselves committing an illegal act.

The law applies to the police as well, contrary to what they may think.

I have never argued the cops are above the law. Do the crime, do the time - a simple motto that relieves me of any anxiety when facing a fine or punishment I actually deserve.

If the cop was wrong - then yes defend thge ticket. Do it with all your might... the inverse statement also applies (you don't do the crime... etc).

Come on MDU, you are surely not that naive are you? Honestly.

Look at the outcome of recent rape trials when people have "held em accountable" for what is effectively an abuse of power.

No we aren't trusted to obey the road laws, where ever did that one come from?
Should we just accept a law because it is a law. No. If a law is unfair, unjust or arbitrary it is not my responsibility to obey it my friend, quite the opposite actually.

Abuse of power, in any of it's many forms, is not ok and for the very reason that recourse is often not the simple matter you would appear to suggest.

Think of why there are 2+ cars out most rides, cos a COP living on the route is pissed off at the loud pipes while he's kickin' back with no other vices to keep him entertained! There have been 20+ break-in's at the same time on the same day of the week in our area which consists of only a few streets and there are no cops staking that out. They are a company in business, there must be some perks to having such a shit job and dealing with scum daily on rotating shifts for average pay. We just live (ride?) on the wrong side of the perk!

True I think he is a dog handler, watches as we go by, not sure of road name, but just passed the roundabout (off old north???) in the dip before it goes to 100km limit.

Come on MDU, you are surely not that naive are you? Honestly.

Look at the outcome of recent rape trials when people have "held em accountable" for what is effectively an abuse of power.

You're confusing accountability for justice. Accountability being the process by which you are caught and correctly identified as being the offender (of whatever you did).

Justice is the process of meting out the appropriate punishment. I (personally) think this is where the problem is. If there is an abuse of power then those abusing it deserve a more sever punishment because of their privileged position/higher office.

My fundamental point in this while argument is this... if someone did the crime - they deserve the time. People can quite rightly complain about a cop using illegal tactics to catch them or do whatever... but if they were ticketed for speeding... and they WERE speeding... they get no sympathy from me.

ManDownUnder

Well this is quite different to going over 100kph...if you cant figure this out for yourself, your a twat!

Ok - I can't figure this out for myself... so spell it out (for the record... I'm being serious - please spell it out). Why should the cops police one law and not others?

Try to avoid name calling too - it belittles any argument.

Question...will you still smack your child after they tried to put a fork in the power socket??? I know a lot of people who will but if you do....ooooooo......You criminal!!!

Yes - and I'll happily defend myself afterwards should there be any repercussions. I'm simply suggesting you do the same - assuming you think you have a defensible position

Again names - but that one was more justified...

If people all follow along blindly and just do what we're told and when, you will end up with whatever others decide is best for you...me...nah...its bullocks and I won't shut up just because you say so.

Agreed - that's how Nazi Germany ended up the way it did. Not a good thing. Small point though - I never told you to shut up... simply sort your shit out.

I get so fucked off with small minded people forcing their opinion onto me!
Me too

FYI I didn't get a ticket, or lose my license but I am gutted that my mate did! He was going over 100kph, he was 'breaking the law' and yes by all counts he should face the music...does this make it right?! No it doesn't. The penalty doesn't serve 'justice' to the crime...he was not riding dangerously at all to himself or others...it only remotely makes sense if you buy into the bullshit propaganda quote "Speed Kills."

Ok hang on - on one hand I hear you arguing the cops should be held accountable for trangressions (agreed)... which sounds like a "one law for all" approach

But then I hear you saying some laws should be ignored.

Which is it?

Why should the cops police one law and not others?
Well Mr Twat, its like this:dodge:...If one law is stupid, and one law isn't, A 'good' cop will understand this difference and won't be a twat concentrating his efforts on the stupid law (notice the effective way i used name calling while staying on topic) ;-). What I'm hearing from you is that you like the fact that we (NZ citizens) have been dumbed down so much that even the most respected (traditionally speaking) profession about should not be allowed to have individual 'discretion' and 'responsibility' for any actions taken. You appear to believe that cops should 'blindly' follow along like stormtroopers hiding behind a socialist mentality of 'i don't make the laws, I just police them' attitude. Just what a little Hitler in power would like his people to be like.

Yes - and I'll happily defend myself afterwards should there be any repercussions. Should there be??? Now I'm confused...do you, or don't you think they should prosecute you for smacking your child if it is illegal? Maybe they should use 'discretion' when deciding to or not...oh no thats right, using your logic, they shouldn't be able to use discretion should they....twat (justified ;))

Agreed - that's how Nazi Germany ended up the way it did. Not a good thing. Small point though - I never told you to shut up... simply sort your shit out. ooooo...see you started the name calling first twat. Ignoring that, can you not see my point after writing this? Their ARE some laws that are in place to 'control' the masses...dumb laws! They need to be re-addressed if I am ever to be convinced that we don't have a socialist movement in this country..ie Nazi Germany in a clever disguised so-called democracy.

Ok hang on - on one hand I hear you arguing the cops should be held accountable for trangressions (agreed)... which sounds like a "one law for all" approach

But then I hear you saying some laws should be ignored.

Which is it? I reiterate my previous simile (sorry to digress) Should the police prosecute you if you smack your child as you have indicated you would in certain circumstances...even if it is against a "law." Do you honestly believe that is a good way to spend our hard earned (road) tax? I think we can agree (unless you are a twat of course:whistle:) that this is an example of bad law that should NEVER be policed...abusive parenting sure, but proper disciplining you child...dumb. presuming you agree then essentially you have to agree with my whole point which is, this cop that was "supposedly just doing his job" was in fact policing bad (easy) law that shouldn't be accepted just because we're told to, and furthermore, he should be able to use his discretion to decipher whether the 'speeder' was in fact endangering himself or others.

Their was nothing gained from him taking away the license of good responsible rider in this case, apart from getting some coin for Helen and putting a message across that they know better...Bugger that for a joke.:nono:. Now I must make myself clear that I am not saying that we should all go out there and go as fast a we like, I'm merely pointing out the FACT the speed alone does not kill, and in fact is usually the lesser of the evils when considering other contributing factors in an incident. If a bad driver (or even a good one that has made a poor decision) were held responsible for their actions on a daily basis then we would develop a different attitude to everything...sure their are people who are stupid and will never be responsible on the roads but this is not a defense to not do this, as we have these people on the roads now! I personally love to go fast, whether it be on a bike, flying a plane or driving a car and I know that speed is not bad...its good. I'm looking forward to track day in Taupo to give my ZX9R a crack at the track and will push it harder than I ever will on the roads because the situation allows it, But 100kph on our roads is not a magical 'safe' speed...speed does not kill!

essay over.
PS if anyone is wondering how I can write such a long reply in work hours, I've got the day off:Punk:. Furthermore, I'm very very passionate on this subject...if you want to hear a lecture, just bring up this topic and disagree with me:yes:

other thread seams to be closed?? i was just reading the discussion about passing and have this to add. Im about 10 pages behind. So, sorry if its already been said.

Personally i don't like people slowing down and pulling to the side for me to pass. Yes its most likely my fault because i have made them uncomfortable by following too close.
Its just that sometimes in the panic of having a "faster" rider behind you, you might not take the time to think about the safety of passing at that point - [whether you are out of their way or not]. Shit road surface, other traffic or it could be that I/they don't wnat to pass and then have to break hard, right in front of you for the corner coming up.
Basically the rider themselves should decide when to pass. NOT anybody else.
Long story short - Just keep riding, You will be passed when they decide.
Its an organised group ride, if they care that much about coming accross slower riders, they would go riding on their own and not join us.

Yeah, wot 'e said.

Me, I always try to start out at the back of rides. I'm not fast, someone always needs to take on the job of riding sweep, and if I get too bored I can always squirt ahead for a bit of a play.

On the open road, everyone should just focus on riding a safe line at their own pace. Anyone who wants to go at Warp 9 has the options of foregoing group riding, staying at the front of the pack and waiting at intersections, finding low-risk spots to pass, or just sucking it up and looking at the scenery for a change.

The onus should never be on slower or less experienced riders to move aside.

ManDownUnder

There's a difference between being able to ride in the dark and wet, and wanting to.

I felt, after much consideration, that staying home with the heater on, eating sweet and sour chicken and watching a film was a better way to go.

Yeah me too. Riding at night is ok but having done it enough I prefer scenery and warmth vs cold, dark and riding following a trail of tail lights.

Yeah it doesn't stress me out but thought I'd throw it out there for discussion. I don't ride with anyone except ATNR and haven't been that much. I don't move over to let people pass unless it's somewhere I think they would anyway and they might appreciate the space. I know what it's like trying to pass or choosing a spot to pass too, sometimes everything is perfect EXCEPT you can't be sure what the rider in front is thinking, generally they are the only thing that is not static in the scenario. Just wanted to see if any of the regular group riders had an "off ya go" signal or what.

Side note, quite bummed some of the posts that have been given the boot to over here are directly relevant to ATNR, have to agree the bickering doesn't have a place anywhere on the site really, get each others MSN addresses guys and go at it! Where no-one else has to see!

Like I said earlier mate, move to the left of the road dont slow down too much( if theyre good enuf to pass u they will, or bin tryin). And wav them past with ur right hand. If its safe enuf for u to ride with ur left hand then its safe enuf for them to pass. Personally I never pass on the ATNR unless theres a Rg150 or the likes in front of me then too I hold back and pass on the straights... Also I like havin noone in front of me coz my headlights are powerful and blinds other riders... and I cant/wont ride on dipper on the ATNR. But thats just me.:Punk:

I know the exact position you are in, cus i did it when i started last year.

Its a good one for discussion, but then you will have people not involved in that discussion wondering wtf you are doing with your foot out, hand tapping your head while your indicators are turning back and fourth.
If its safe enough and there is enough time for you to take your hand off the handlebar and wave someone by, chances are if they wanted to they would have passed you already.
So i rekon its just best to worry about whats in front, ofcourse be aware that someone is behind you and that they might pass you. But leave the choice TOTALLY up to them.

Was waaay to close, pulled level with me and turned into me , I braked hard and they nearly got thrown as their bike was all over the show. Funny thing was they are somehow connected to a friend of my sister and we were at her place the week after and he had been telling them big fat ones about his heroics, when he saw my face the stories stopped. I wasn't a dick to him but I think he knew what actually (and nearly) happened. That was my first ATNR ride and when I got home I told my wife I wouldn't go if they went again. 2. The ATNR discussion thread (This Thread)

Qkchk
2nd August 2007, 15:46
It'll give you more torque throughout your whole rev range D. Nice power out of corners and being able to overtake whilst still in 6th gear commuting it always a bonus.

BTW....it'll still do 280kmph afterwards and if not give it 'ere!

Ha ha ha, I assume your not coming up tonight - I suppose the weather could be holdin you back eh?

Yeah I'm only using the lower rev range most the the time on the bike, if I wanted a bit of grunt I gotta be doing 120kph in 1st gear and Im still no-where near red-line. Would like to use some of that mid-high range since the R1's low sucks.....

Qkkids ZX10 has a way superior low range than mine, the front gets all flighty and starts to lift, not a chance one mine (unless you drop the clutch - which I aint ever gonna do....)

Youve got enough bloody toys.............:p

Sorry all I didn't make it to the pub last night... truth be told I didn't make it off the loo till about 8:00... I had a dose of the runs that'd make the Jet Propulsion Lab (http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/) envious!

Hope you all had a good night.

yeah, its taking me a week to get rid of the last of the chicken strips. Still, should be sorted tomorrow...loving those tyres though - real solid in the wet, good feedback on every type of surface...etc.

I suppose one of the advantages of being a lecturer is that instead of having to sit the exams we set them...:devil2:
