So who weighs around 92 - 96kg and what suspension settings are you at?
I'm thinking of having a play around with mine later on, just to see if I can get it any better.

Well done jasonzc! :niceone: That is the way it should be, bikers just going for a ride ... with or without others! I'm out of action for a long while, have to help out in the family takeaways after I finish teaching! :pinch: The only biking I have been able to do is in my local environs :weep:

And oh yeah, I did weeks and weeks of the Hornet Swarm rides with only me, myself and I! :scooter:

Got a great buy .. never quite imagined I'd have a 05 Hornet in my garage.
She's done a few k's. Did I say a f e w !! We're going for the record here.
Its all been hot running so the motor is premo .. small problem/but ... Its chewed out the spline on the countershaft. (output > sprocket).
So have secured a whole gearbox internals on eBay and will give me something to do when it turns up.

And if u want to know the answer is 200 big ones..........

Go on... challenge us... I know of a few hornets with decent km. Mine and 2 others I think are sitting in the 70's, and a courier has his in the 180's, no major engine work yet. These bikes are ridiculously reliable!

How many Kms ?

81 000km...and counting here.

George from Motorcycle doctors' words were: "If I didnt know that this bike has done 80 000km I'd say that this engine has just come out of the factory"

Now that is just pure awesomeness! And people think we horneteers are rabid, oddlings with our ferbile rants and raves about our fave choice of ride! My lil'ol'hornet has gone around the clock and starting his 2nd run around it ... my Big Ol'Hornet is a bit put out at the moment since I am giving my lil'ol'hornet the love! :sweatdrop

When I had the Big Ol'Hornet go for it's mandatory service to inspect the clearances etc, usual story from the mechanic "waste of time really, since I already know what it will look like. Perfect." and funnily enough, it was so. :woohoo:

Welcome to the new horneteer and hope you have a good buzz going on!

Yep, the bikewhore in me rears its ugly head once again !

Saying that though, any excuse for a ride, maybe I can catch up with the swarm and we can go .... to Blush? (wait, where did that come from? Damn! Rie and her cunning asian korean mafia princess ways!)

Well, that has to qualify for one of the latest and shortest swarm rides ever  Meeting outside the library at 9.15pm was rie and Sharry, all waiting for me  Eventually the world's black and blue blackbird indian turned up! We did a short ride to Blush, whereupon seating arrangements were copious and we had our choice of tables.

TOTO turned up and somehow Sharry made a quick choice for her drink. I think rie was less than impressed with her impressive sounding drink (which she proudly managed to get out in one whole sentence!)

Anyhow the usual blatherskiting about bikes and other inconsequential musings were bandied back and forth. All this just reinforced how little I was riding! :weep:

At least the lil'ol'hornet got a good work out on the long way into the city! :innocent:

The way back I did my biker good deed for the day and helped out a Harley rider heading up the long onramp to south. His rear taillight was out and I had to do a very convincing impression of a cowboy pointing to the rear of his steed! Eventually we pulled over and had a a quick squizz over his system. Methinks just a blown bulb and the jobs a good'un. Away we roared into the night, his mighty throbbings counterpointed by the high rev scream of my lil'ol'hornet.

A good night out, if only the ride was longer! :msn-wink: Mind you, the lil'ol'hornet did click over to 104,000km now! :woohoo:

Well, for the first Hornet Swarm Night Ride - it was a nice sedate affair. Rode to the Library and surprise surprise! Two I didn't really expect already waiting! :gob:

zeocen and Gale_Wolf!

Shortly arriving was Sharry on the only Hornet :o

And a noisy guest appearance was made by the dynamic duo of rie and dushy! Nice! They weren't riding, but just having a look see and a quick howdy-do. Dushy was wearing the new Revu helmet with rear facing mirror gadget. Very trick! Will be interested in the write up he will do tonight apparently!

Anyhow, TOTO turns up and we all ride to Daikoku for an early dinner. Much laughter and chatting ensued. Lots of jokes about licking octopus and honda rider balls abounded! (that takoyaki is always a hoot for conversations!) I scoffed my Combo B meal of curry rice and a nice bowl of ramen. Zeocen was classic with his line "where's my damn food!?" and the poor waitress suddenly pops up and says "it won't be long!"

Eventually we head off down Tamaki drive to the St Heliers GP and off to Meadowlands in Pakuranga for MoMo teahouse. Natas and ice frapps all around please! TOTO outdid himself by having two drinks and Gale_Wolf suffered brain freeze!

Anyhow, that was the end of the ride and amazingly .. zeocen completed a full ride for once! :gob: Will wonders never cease?

Pic 1 : Guest appearance by superasianbikerbabe rie and the mysteriousmanwiththehelmet Dushy

It was great, I knew my kids would love it there. What other weird and wonderful food places have you been hiding from us?! Those slushies are pretty big, surprised the 3 yr old could fit a whole one in her tum, all that sugary goodness eh! Well just the usually challenged TOTO riding with me tonight, Gale_Wolf stopped in from work to say hello and we jawed about bikes until 6.30pm. Gale_Wolf left us at the SE highway turnoff to go home to his family and we stopped off at Sam Woo's in Otahuhu to throw some nosh down our necks (I had the vietnamese udon soup). We started to ride towards Port Waikato before TOTO realised he was wearing his tinted visor!

Anyhow, we rode over to catch Gremlin and Felix just about to go on a man date, TOTO picked up his new bulbs and we then headed off to Momotea in Meadowlands.

I decided to eat some lamb skewers with my passionfruit nata.

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows what the differences are between the different years of hornets?

I'm looking at a 2007 hornet 900 and would be interested to know how the model has evolved over the years from 2002. My google-fu has not turned up anything useful.

Gremlin
13th October 2010, 17:50
Very little has changed. Around 06-07 from memory, the suspension adjustment (front end I think) was increased, so the older models don't have as much adjustment.

TOTO
13th October 2010, 22:06
year 2005 onwards have the adjustable front forks and a rear hugger was added that year too if I'm not mistaken. some internal parts of the headlight rim are different between 2005 and 2007, but thats not something that matters to you.

cant go wrong with a hornet. if you keep up the maintenance, it will last you ages. Mine is 2 years old and on 104 000km. runs better than ever :not:

I was well impressed with the turnout tonight! When I was at home, I suddenly got a spate of texts saying was the ride on! :gob:

I was meant to be spending a nice quiet time with my girl, but oh no! It seems others had a hankering for a bit of a ride.

Funny thing was, I turned up late to my own ride  :gob:Of course, by the time I got there, nobody had decided anything since they were doing the usual KB poseur thing (talk, talk and talk!)

So off around mission bay we rode, St Heliers GP with a look at Dingle Dell. We stopped off at Blush for refreshments and food. I think we slightly overwhelmed the place as orders arrived haphazardly. Was still good to eat and drink!

We banished the non-couples to their own corner - Gremlin and partner and I with mine made ourselves at home. Gremlin tried to destroy the decor and made some astute culinary observations about his eating habits. He doesn't eat egg products or soy sauce ... so he promptly orders chicken fried rice, which has both those items in it!

Anyhow, much bantering and insults traded before we stuck Gremlin with the bill. In chinese. Fortunately my girl stepped in to save the day and translated it!

This has been the second ride with me with my girl behind, and I so love her for it.:love:

Catch you all next time!

Hey all

A career beckons me from the City of Incredible Wind. As a result of the unfortunate wintry season in Auckland I was unable to see many of you. But I hope to return for a Monday ride one day on my Candy-Cane themed gsxr (or perhaps something equally garish and attention-seeking) and complain loudly about the imperfect terrain and bug splatter messing up the precious suzuki paintwork while the more capable tourers ride ablaze past me.
Maybe I will see you at a track when I make the trek up North for the Hamptoning experience.
Maybe I will see you when you go on another one of your mindless journeys across the country (I have a spare room, so drop in).
Maybe I won't see you until I am decrepit, old and ride Honda.

Anyway, miss you all.

Ride out to One Tree Hill and then back to Blush for the usual milk tea and slushy goodness.

If you're taking jabs at me now, you're gonna love this one.

So I was riding home from work today and just heading past the Manukau offramp and my bike suddenly dies. Okay, strange. I try to start it while rolling, nada. I hover over to in between the Manukau onramp and the motorway and am like, well this is pretty whack.

Suddenly a bike passes me and sees me, he stops. That bike... that bike. THAT BIKE?

It is my previous bike, my old Hornet 900 and it's new owner. Of all people to see my VFR break down for the first time, it's the guy who has my old bike. Looking at my new bike, that is dead.

But, you've just gotta laugh. That is one hell of a coincidence!
We (well, he) had a bit of a squiz around to see anything out of the ordinary, rang Botany Honda, did some diagnostics, arranged for a tow. Proud hornet basta....owner left knowing I'm in safe hands of a tow truck.

Time past and I decided to see if it'll start up and magically it did! What the hell! So I sheepishly road it home and will be taking it to Botany Honda tomorrow for some serious diagnosing. It's not the first problem I've had with this bike, but it's the first one that's rendered it useless and I'm pretty well not happy about it - it's not a nice feeling to get rid of a brilliant bike and feel like you've downgraded to one that has constant problems. :(

So go ahead, nudge me in the ribs and tell me how Hornets are better.

On the plus side, I did record it.

Guess we'll find out tomorrow what is the root of the problem, I know some VTEC VFR800s have had wiring recalls on them so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the cause.

Hey is the old Hornet a red one? I was filtering my way through the southern motorway crawl/carpark, just before Market Rd, maybe 5.15pm, when a red Hornet zapped past ducking in and out of traffic. But he was using his indicators like a good chap. I think I was holding him up

I decided to take a Hornet 900 as a loaner.
How you guys survive on the stock seat is WELL beyond me, I was aching everywhere just from 25kms of commuting, utter crap.

Got the VFR back. It seems the previous owner decided to do some backyard electrics on it and didn't put the sub-harness back in it's appropriate position, letting it rest next to the battery and heating up well more than it should be. So it eventually heated beyond boiling point and shit went pear shaped from there. It's all good now and business is back.

/edit: Would also be good to compare your gutted pipes to the ones I had done too! Even if they're not on my bike at the moment (got stock on, ordered some Leo Vinces - gonna be a long week of waiting! :D)

you guys meet too early! riding yesterday made me just want to keep riding, but training doesn't finish until 6pm, probably 6:30

might go home via the library to say hi, if I'm not totally dead. But give me a text if you come back to blush and I might come and chat, if I've recovered in time!

Tell me 'bout it. The best was when we left our bikes at the library, walked to dinner, rode to one tree hill, more typical kiwibiker talking, then back into town to finish off the evening with bubble tea.

I would have thought a 'ride' would generally consist of a bit more than 2x7min rides lol

"I got my full yesterday, and I'm the best rider in the world. Give me the fastest bike you have. I don't care if it can turn corners, it just has to pull huuge wheelies."

If it involves riding then count me out. I go to these for the socialising and new food experiences and to unwind - don't fancy going for a ride on a Monday night after work when I have to get up the next day at 6am.

There's plenty of other Aucklandwide rides throughout the week and weekend that involve vigorous riding.

Well in the absence of the camo wearing ninja, the ride was led by the camo wearing ninja paduan. A healthy turnout with Sharry, Intercepror, Bear_Wolf and a Wanpo + Lady :)

Cruised over to Maretai, where the filthy biker scumm indulged in food consuming behavior as well as discussing and demonstrating the various level of squid-ness. The Original plan was to have food and cruise over to do some sight seeing over at the local airfield, but failing that (due to closed gates) we redirected towards the nearest Hulu Cat establishment. This provided the oportunity for filthy biker scum to establish their firm presence as a loyal customer and therefore be rewarded with "The Couch". This was much obliged by all swarm members, who proceeded to discus various technological and social aspects of biking and all things related, while also perving at the hot asian waitresses.

If the weather is clear next monday, a visit to the local Star Wars office might be included in the attractions program :)

Shame we didn't get to have waffles but enjoyed the ride.

Scrubbed in my new front tyre quite nicely while our gixxer 6 rider behind me kept me guessing for most of the way, she'd disappear and just when I'd start to worry she'd suddenly reappear right on my tail. Looked like she was having fun riding tail end charlie.

And finally when I was leisurely riding home all by my lonesome, some dodgy GN250 appeared in front of me popping and sputtering and leaving me to choke on a cloud of black smoke before he switched to reserve. Thanks Toto!
