Do you ride it every day? If not, or it's just left out where any buttmunch can get at it then, if you ever need to, you're welcome to store it at my place in a locked garage. I've got room for a few more bikes just need to convince my beloved that I need more bikes!
I wonder if said buttmunch has a GixxerSixxer and was trying to nick off with the smuggler for himself instead of just trying to break into it.
Thanks for the offer, if it starts getting messed with too much I may consider that! Its covered up, and locked to two steel pillars, and on a level where you have to have a swipe card to access with vehicle and covered by cameras etc, so its unlikely to get stollen, but people can get at it to play with it.
It didn't look like they tried to break into it (probably easier than take the whole thing) and definitely looked like they were trying to take the whole thing!
Why would anyone want the back of their bike to look like that?
you're in enough trouble mister, I'd watch it!!

Well after a heart to heart with Justin I think I may have finally decided on my next bike. It's a sensible, down to earth and mature decision (lol what). Married life awaits me and I need to slow down and save on gas and rego!
But that's not to say the bike won't be fun, I've ridden it already and I know it's a blast! And it's LIGHT!
I think all that needs to be decided now, is what colour to get.

Welcome back to the Hornet fold my long lost childer! You have seen the light and been transmorgified into one of the true brethen! Amen my brother!
I was with the young zeocen awaiting his re-genesis, and lo, it was good! Much joy was evinced and though in the beginning, he was unsure and unsteady of purpose (he wished to go home via the moronway!) He was enlightened by many guiding souls that he should go forth unto the twisties and be enveloped in the heavenly light that is for returning bikers.
The soul and sound as he wound his way through the windy roads of Whitford, meandering the muses and mustering his magnum opus of Maraetai, harrying the hills and hurtling along his apothesis and approaching the apogee of his phoenix like rebirth!
To his new ride and refreshing of his soul, I salute his new CB600 in redemption red!
I do so hope he posts some photos of his lovely new bike!

I was going to bail tonight (still feeling a bit crook after some dodgy food) but since the Whitford ride's pretty close to home I might come along anyway, at least for the ride out, probably won't be eating though. That's *if* everyone's keen to do Whitford to keep Zeo happy!

There is I think a cafe in Whitford, also The General Store which are pretty sizable portions and a nice outside eating area. Then opposite that is Amy's Kitchen but not sure if that is open. General Store is prolly the best bet.

Yea I was wandering why the CBR kept sliding side wise and almost came off the roundabout and it all came clear while stopped at those road works - hypersport tyres (http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/products/344-michelin_slicks_and_wets/3733-michelin_power_one.aspx). Great if we were on a race track but at the cold dark and wet night , not the best solution to put it mildly. I suppose that classifies as an adventure since I reckon it falls under the category of Taking inappropriate equipment on places it is not meant to be
Also someone needs to explain to Wanpo how the traffic light activation in NZ works. I saw him last time and then also tonight at the traffic lights. Dude you could have stayed at the lights for an hour the way you stop without it turning green. Let me take away your ignorance next week :psst:

Riding in rain is nothing new but for me it would usually be part of my daily commute, splitting carefully through traffic on well-lit main roads while getting soaked in a downpour.
So the rain added a point of difference to a ride along roads more often travelled when dry, front wheel slide is always an interesting experience, then very dark and even more wet on the way out of Clevedon back over the hill and through to Whitford.
Great pizza at Clevedon, followed by the usual BS-talk at Momotea always good for a laugh. Then the all-too-familiar action of chucking wet gear into the drying cupboard at home, and swapping to use spare dry gear this morning for the daily commute.
Also let it be noted that wet weather pants always lose their waterproof-ness in the crotch first   :violin:

Not sure about the new CBR250, the idea of a single thumper inheriting the CBR name doesn't fit right. And they look kinda ugly to my eye, really don't like that can.
I think the last time I rode of those early 90s ones was when GIJoe's bro had one, same colours too. That would've been back in the mid 90s, /old! Lotsa fun those CBRs.

gale_wolf
27th March 2011, 19:31
True it doesn't claim to be an RR. To me, the name CBR250 still implies late 80s to early 90s CBR250RR, which I used to ride. Just call me old fashioned then because I think the new one's pretty damn fugly :p But luckily for Honda I'm not the target demographic for it.

Any Honda is a good Honda though, so nice one Steel! Has it got some nice pipes to make that high revving engine sound great?
PS. If you're in the market for a CB600 buy one soon, the model changes again for mid to late 2011 and the price is going to skyrocket. The model looks almost exactly like a barebones mini-predator, which isn't really to my taste (but might be to yours: digital rev counter, predator-ish light and instrument cluster, stocky tail and non clear rear light hehe) but the big kicker is that it somehow managed to gain 20kg!!

Yeah, she sounds good (to me, I may be biased...). Very crackly down the bottom of the rev range, then up to full racebike scream at about 6k revs. You'll get to judge in a couple of weeks... :)
I do like the look of the current CBR600 (it, the Yammie Fazer 6, and the Triumph Daytona are on my 'I want' list), if they're doing a naked version I will be less interested... <_<

Dunno about the others but I thought the Daytona was horribly uncomfortable. For me the seat's too high and the clip-ons are too low, even more so than the kwaka 636. But the Daytona does look absolutely mint.

Yup redline is 20 but IIRC 'peak' power is probably more in the range of 15-17 and depending on the year it may be limited to about 18-19. Dont think that limit applies to the MC22 though. Not that it matters, you're going to enjoy that bike.

Everyone was saying how comfortable the VTR was, and it just didn't sit right with me.
Had a ride on the flatmate's VTR250, sounded nice (the previous owner spent a lot of time getting it to sound that good) and it was 'comfortable' but it didn't do anything for me. That upright seating position feels more like riding a scooter, or sitting in a kitchen chair, than riding a sports bike to me.
The Daytona however was on the other end of the scale, ass up in the air, all the weight on my wrists. Again, however, loved the noise, had an almost il4 whine from the front of the bike and a v-twin rumble from the rear.

Yeah, the real torque kicks in at about 9k, with peak around 15, as you say. Best thing about the MC22s is that they aren't limited. Definitely going to enjoy. :D

Yeah, the VTR sounds good (the one I was looking at had a Yoshi pipe, sounded really nice). The position was weird - kind of halfway between properly upright (like Scorpie) and in sportbike crouch (like the-CBR-which-is-as-yet-unnamed).
Will wait and see on the Daytona... does sound very nice from videos, though...

Hooooo boy there are some crazy folk on our roads.
I was riding home from picking my bike up from Botany Honda, on the motorway - as the South Western connects to the Southern this red trashy holden was coming onto the onramp at speed and he seemed to think that since he had his indicator on that meant he could cross four lanes at speed, making me stomp on the picks in order to avoid squishdom.
I went to the other lane as he was stuck behind a slowpoke and I passed him, looked at him and shook my head and he brmm brrrrmmm'd up to me and gave me the fingers. So I gave him the fingers back :P
Well! He took exception to that and the chase was on! He went into my lane, so I went to the next lane, he went in the next lane also. I went onto the offramp to go home and so did he. Curious, I thought. I might add he had three kids with him in that car while he was being a maniac.
I was coming up to the lights that were green and they changed yellow as I approached - I went through before the red and he was a good few seconds behind me so it would've been a good second or three when he went through the red light, wheels screaching and everything!
I thought this was getting kinda out of hand, he has three little kids in there! So I nipped past a few cars and pootled on home.
Talk about anger issues! If you don't want someone to shake your head you, don't try squish them!

Wore in my new rear in the weekend, riding with my flatties and two crazy guys on repsol CBR1000s (flatmates' friends) Don't think I'll ride regularily with them. They're bad influences on my riding. Lets just that our average speed down SH 16 from Wellsford may have at times been a little bit over 104km/h.
Although on a positive note, whereas I could tell they were riding quite close to their limit, (crossing the middle line on corners, etc.) At the speeds we were doing I was feeling really comfortable and didn't have a single oh shit moment.

I just checked their site... Tetsuya’s serves a eleven-course degustation menu, which is $210* (GST inclusive) per person, plus drinks. That's Aussie dollars folks, I wonder if I can justify that as a business expense, hmmm  And for AUD$210 they'd better have takoyaki!

So how do we get SteelPhoenix's user name changed to Gremlinette?
In other news, since I had time to kill this morning before my flight to Sydney, I thought I'd nip out for a quick ride, ended up at Botany Honda where I got quoted for trading my bike in and took an '09 CBR thou for a test ride down through Whitford. Handled very nicely, though felt a bit twitchy in 1st and 2nd, but that's probably just because I'm so used to my own bike. I'll add it to my list of possibles, but still want to test a Busa.
Interesting reaction from Richard at Botany Honda when I mentioned Justin's name, he laughed and said "oh so you're one of them" to me and then immediately listed Matt and Alan amongst "that group of reprobates", his words :p And now I'm tarred with the same brush ;) He also mentioned Gremlinette by her real name and how keen she was on her new ride.

Yeah, I don't hate it... The KTM types just seem to do well with the whole orange thing - not sure why, but it doesn't make me immediately go 'ARGH, KILL IT NOW!' like most orange does. It's the lines of the bike that make me not-really-like it - it's very aggressive, blocky, hard, and somewhat inelegant in its execution.

I'm not convinced by the blue/grey - it looks okay, but not as interesting or striking as the blue/black, or the classic blue/white. The K10 has the navy/white scheme, which is quite nice, if vaguely unfinished-looking. If anything, I'd go for the classic blue/white.

He had a Ducati, and still fancies them, but something enormously reliable has to cart him to work and back... so surprise surprise, he has a Honda! I believe he's even purchased a second one... they're that good!

She doesn't understand. Its one of those things that you have no idea that you really really want something till you try it, and then you wonder how you lived without it. Isn't it called LOVE. If she tried it, she will forever be surrounded by HONDA LOVE
P.s. Honda love is close to her at the mo, but she aint in the circle of love yet

I shall be there. I don't think I'll order any eats etc though, since I really need to do a bit of saving for a couple of months.

Yeah, I should be doing that too... new bike and all... Maybe we should ride first, then go eat?
(Because, y'know, certain people will complain if we don't go eat at all...)

Could someone bring some chain oil? Mine got confiscated at customs -_- (forgot to remove it from my bag. It got through NZ customs to Australia, but not the other way; along with my sunscreen and hair gel)
