I can bring the spare jacket any of those weeks. :)
Also... I test-rode the new MC22 today. Not to put too fine a point on it, it felt awesome - even sweeter engine than my previous one. Getting on felt like coming home; I loved every second. Guess I'm getting it... :wings::Punk:

The pic looks like the same 900 Blade that GIJoe's brother bought new. Different paint but damn fine bike that.
I knew a guy who had a 250 baby blade in the same paint scheme. He was the staunchest and most awesome rider who ever lived until he had a low speed low side, never got back on a bike again... I think our SteelPhoenix is made of tougher stuff :)

Yah, that isn't the specific type of bike, but she does have that livery. Attached is picture of new bike, sitting in driveway after the ride back from Botany Honda. I also took a video, but it wouldn't attach - wrong filetype.

Well it seems my so called vaunted constitution is failing due to old age ... coughing up copious amounts of green phlegm flecked with blood, mucus and other bodily expulsions!
My girl has ordered me off the bike and to remain ensconced in the warmth of her bosom and recover!
To top off my day, came out this morning to ride Cindi to work - started her up to warm her up and I noticed exhaust fumes flowing out to the wrong side of the bike! :shit: A quick examination revealed her 'zorst had somehow worked loose from the cat'!
Buggerit, switched over to the lil'ol'hornet who in mild protest to not being ridden in a while, took a wee while to turn over (I then remembered to put some choke on and voila! :o )
Anyhow, weather was absolutely beautiful yesterday, I couldn't ride! :crybaby: And I had an offer to ride down to Turangi to help a mate pick up a new ride! :weep:
Okay, enough bleating, going to die slowly in the classroom ..
(o0h yeah, nice bike Steelphoenix, look after yourself okay! They ain't 'zukis which are vending machine issue!)

Ok someone has to post about last night's ride... Sharry, Wanpo, Baffa, and I all met up with Toto at Cycletreads about 7ish. Wanpo took the lead from there, with Toto at TEC. We headed up to Albany, Paremoremo, and out along SH16. Stopped at the loos before the pub, Toto tested out Baffa's VTR, then Sharry headed home. The rest of the mob continued on up to the lookout on the way to Wellsford, pretty much had the road to ourselves, although shared some of it with roadkill possums. Pitch black but awesome starry sky, talked a lot of crap and got a wee bit chilly so we started back to Albany. Wanpo detoured onto Forestry Rd and stopped to give a short briefing about it having very tight twisties. Misted visors and not appreciating just how tight the twisties were made for some interesting moments, have to go back and do that again in daylight. Went to our now-regular Albany late night noodle place, warmed up, ate food, talked more crap. The end :)

Sounds like a good night of it! Now for next week ... we can go view the 3D Isle of Man movie! (doing some research on venues)
Now apparently... it's on at Sylvia Park on Monday 29th at 6.40pm ... or at Botany Downs at 7pm ... we could just meet up there! Guess we just need to know which fits in better with timings.

Defo keen as well.
Monday's ride was great, bar the freezing cold. My grips have been intermittantly working, and they chose the coldest ride to not play ball.
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and that Forestry road was great fun, after the first corner, where I had a bit of a shock, even after Wanpo warned me about the corner. That should become a regular feature of SH16 rides!
Cheers again guys, looking foward to the movie next week.

gijoe1313

Sure do, every Monday night usually - good way to see in a new week and the roads are usually free of the nutters (apart from us).
Find some good roads, a place to park up and eat and gasbag about the usual stuff bikers chat about.
We take it easy and cater for all sorts ('cept the ultra-fast Rossi/Stoner-be!)

Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun is for riding :Punk:
Speaking of riding, old man sent his seat away to get it awesomised by McDonalds in Tauranga. Came back on Sat morning and I've taken it for a spin around the block - amazing. ZX14 stock seat suuuuucked, it's basically changed the bike for me. I've had their Rider seats on my Blackbird and Hornet 900, and always changed the bike for the best.

If there's a ride tonight, I'm going to have to pumpkin early - I'm having dinner with my sister tonight at 1930. I suggested she might like to come on the ride, but that got me a dirty look and mumblings about 'unsafe' and 'accident'. I shook my head and rolled my eyes and left it at that...

My new Hornet 250 :D
Any advice how to shine it up? The panels look fine but the machinery can look better.
Righto, get some Autosol from Repco/Supercheap, plenty of rags and elbow grease! If you have a buffing machine use that. The kerosene/toothbrush is a great combo for the road grease and muck.
Autosol brings all metal parts like a new penny. For your painted surfaces, use a good product range (I use Meguiar's 3 step wax and polish).
Keep a good detailing product spray to keep it all sparkly!

Oh really? Depends on your viewpoint. The world would be a boring place if everyone had the same bike.
Imagine riding across a vast country, perhaps you have the missus on the back, too much gear for the bike, so you have a trailer. Saw plenty of Goldwings in the States towing trailers.

All go in race prep land; Front fork oil has been done, I've given the word for braided front lines/sintered pads to go in, as well as a race chain to be put on. Did some more sanding today after work (while there was still sunlight at least.) Also ordered some levers from Hong Kong. <$50 for both levers, and I got to choose the colours :) (blue levers, silver adjuster.)
I will have spent so much time off the bike getting things ready, that come time to actually go around the track, I'm going to suck!

When was the last time you did an oil change? Possibly could be a sensor thing, if it persists, do an oil change. If it still continues then further investigation is merited (no pools of oil beneath the bike hopefully?)
And it could as simple as a lekky gremlin playing with the wiring, that ain't so simple!

Surely you get her painted up by middle of October? Prep is a time consuming job but at least it's easy.
Btw just noticed an oil leak this morning under the bike. Interesting thing is it's a few droplets of black sludgey oil and it's coming down the stand, from where the chain meets the bike.
The bike oil isnt that dark (it got an oil change recently, and is way cleaner than what was under the bike this morning).
Oil level is fine, could it perhaps be some sludge off the chain? Never noticed anything before, and oil drops tend to make one nervous.

Could be chain lube gunge build up pooled inside the front sprocket cover and leaking down from there?
Yes oil leaks do make one nervous. My left fork seal has a slight leak so got the seals booked in for replacement next Wednesday.

I got under the bike and it looks like it's coming from the front chain sprocket or back of the gearbox, and it is sludgey, like chain sludge. Sump and surrounding areas seem clean. Probably nothing but yeah, always a little alarming.
It occured to me that you could really screw with someones head by putting a few drips of oil under their bike every night. That would drive me nuts.

Todd and I back from an awesome track day at Hampton Downs. Super enjoyable, got to test the bike in both the wet and the dry. Had heaps of confidence in the tyres even in the wet (which is where I think Todd and I definitely have an advantage with the pilot road 3s)
Rode Toto's bike for half a session; camera was still taped to the side of the bike, so on his say so I took the liberty of taping that session (and uploading it to youtube)

I actually managed to get out for a quick ride, a few twisties then off to pick up a stock muffler complete with valve servo that I got off tardme. Very rare that I can get out on the weekend what with little nippers and family responsibilities. Also, that stock muffler is pharkin heavy!

I took my Hornet in for its 6,000km service on Friday and asked if I could take one of those new CBR250s as a loan bike.
Big mistake, I love it :x
I understand a lot of people dislike it because it's not an IL4 250cc but man, it's pretty amazing for a bike of today's age. It's so stable it's unbelievable. The quality of finish puts the Ninja 250 to shame. Also, I was utterly comfortable at 6'2. I liked the GPX250 but the latest model Ninja 250 is torture to ride for me. This CBR has done real-world economical one hundred percent right.
There's something about light little 250s that make me smile, I wish I could afford another 250. I see there's Gymkhana going on in Taupo, I wish we had something up in Auckland.
*wonders what he can do for second income to afford another 250 motorcycle*

I'll probably be trying to get there quite quickly, so probably leaving auckland before 8, and not taking too many detours from a straight line (possibly thinking down to clevedon, through hunua then either SH2 or SH27 (suggestions here would be appreciated) to rotorua to hopefully arrive before lunch. Get plugs cast
eat lunch while waiting for them to cure

Was a good ride down to Roto-vegas, been a while since I've clocked up a small 500kmish ride! :gob: Nice roads, great weather and a willing crew to ride with!
Plenty of popo on the roads, but seeing we are law-abiding filthy biker scum, nary a worry (except for the fruit salad suddenly coming on when a car was past us on the way to Ngatea! :shit: Fortunately was after some over hardened crim)
Was interesting to hear the comparison of experiences up the Kai-mais! Glad also that we stopped for some go-gas in the toe-ranges. Down Pyes Pa road behind the usual dingbat in a ute cutting corners, slowing down and then speeding up on the straights!
The main goal was delivering Wanpo to his date with destiny and replacing his lost ear plugs with the Plugz-for-Lugz outfit. The rest of us snaffled down some refreshments at the local BP connect.
Ride back was a compromise between good riding roads and time deadlines (gale_wolf and I were turning into pumpkins at a certain time). Still managed to avoid most of the dreary SH1 and we went over and under and around it!

Took the new CBR250R out for a testspin at lunch time (with a Gixxer thou in tow). There were a few things I liked about it and some I didn't.
Pros:
-It was light... real light
-Nimble, loved turning into the corners
-Hummed along on the motorway no worries, at 120kph (indicated)
-Brakes were nice, the rear almost seeming as strong as the front
-Real easy to handle at slow speeds
Cons:
-Seemed slow, even for a 250. Took a LONG time to get up to cruising pace and I couldn't find the torque, no matter which gear I tried
-Suspension made me lose feel of the bike when going around bumpy corners, nothing dangerous, but just enough that I wasn't 100% sure what the bike was going to do
-Riding position was much to comfortable for me, felt upright like a scooter, and if I sat further back in the saddle I felt disjointed from the bike. (This is quite possibly a height thing)
-Biggest thing that would stop me from recommending this bike to a new rider would be the vicious downshifts. Especially with a newer rider that doesn't know to blip the throttle on a downshift, feels like you're smacked in the back of the head with a 2x4
In summary I'd say it's a typical Honda review, does everything you need and expect it to do, it just doesn't flare up any passion.

Can't say I've ever tried to take out a $30k+ bike. I guess it's past time for me to do so.
When I was younger I got some shifty looks from salespeople... now I'm (just a little bit) older, therefore should be earning more, and thus must have $$$$ that could nicely transfer from me to the bike shop. If only the wife understood that my NEED for more bikes is not just an unnecessary WANT...

Maybe you have to play hard to get? I was offered a spin on a race RC8 (at a trackday) if I wanted... turned it down... that's the last drug I need to be taking. Could probably take an S1000RR if I asked... but I don't want to.
mwah :bleh: Do remember though, with the expensive bikes, it's also about actually having a demo. The RC8 is real expensive for a KTM, and consequently, not every dealer can afford to have one sitting around, to be taken for a spin. Likewise, I don't know how many demos of the K1600GT are around, or where they are. At 45k ish, it's a whack of money for dealers.

That is why I only go to certain shops where I like the people cause they treat me like a rider, and not a girl that knows nothing

Sorry Trace, but you know that's how it goes! Just think, the next time you go buy your next bike - you can go in alone and ask some serious questions that will let the sales peeps know you are a bona fide serious biker!
Or ... you could play to stereotype and be all "ooh, I like this bike - it's a pretty colour!" :msn-wink:
