Something I thought of to keep the mind busy in the horrible ride to Taupo and back. Think Femme Fatale. Made sense to my miserable and tired brain given the conditions.

I would have done a better job editing something together but:
a) It got late
b) Windows movie maker sucks for playing with sound

Hmm, staring at Wanpo's butt for 8 minutes... need some eye bleach now :D

Was your "felt like it was gonna end in a high side" moment at 4:54 in that vid?

c) Profit
Don't give up your day job :bleh:

Looked like you were having a bit of a battle with the number 21 bike (21 I think? watched the vid a bit small on my phone so maybe I got the wrong number). Seemed like you guys were edging past each other on a lot of corners and you had a bit more speed on the straights.

You must be Looking forward to taking Cammy around Hampton when you get the opportunity

wanpo
25th March 2012, 15:40
Yeah, that's Beau (works at Hyosung) he's a bit braver on entry into corners, but I tend to get the drive out. Although that's his brand new efi hyosung, which I think is a little quicker.
Yep, 4:55 was my pants filling moment, doesn't look very big on film though, felt massive.

Yeah but any time the rear really steps out and then bites back in it just feels massive, and then you think you're a legend for saving the bike from a nasty high side!

I only queried it because Wanpo described it exactly like that to me at work. It 'felt' massive at the time but on viewing the vid it didn't look massive. Maybe it didn't look like a huge whoops but I can totally believe that it felt like one.

Well the ride was over around 9.30pm! Baffa and I with the girl on the back was the swarm ride! We did the Mission bay to St Heliers GP, off around Whitford and Maraetai and then back via Twilight road to Meadowlands for some Momotea.

Baffa scoffed some grub, whilst my girl and I consumed a variety of milk and tea and yoghurt drink products!

So, once finished, we said goodnight and god bless!

Spot you all next time! :msn-wink:

So I think I've discovered why I didnt feel 100% comfortable diving into corners on Monday night.

The bike Dr has almost finished servicing my bike.
He has found several things that need doing unfortunately.
Steering head bearings, like the VTR (sigh). Front wheel bearings as well. This would explain why it feels a little funny diving into corners, I thought it was just me.
Tyres. I knew they would need doing at some stage, but this is depressing.
Chain and sprockets. They fitted a new chain before I bought it but didn’t change the rear sprocket, which is badly worn, and because they didn’t, the front and rear sprockets and chain all need to be replaced together. Oh and he said he thinks the chain is some cheap Chinese make.
So not exactly happy, the bearings will cost hundreds in parts and labour, the tyres will be over $200 apeice, chain and sprockets will proably be another $150.
I’m guessing at least $600 to get everything in order, and that still leaves the crack in the front fairing. QQ

Look on the bright side, now you have a reason to buy some Pilot Road 3s which are SO FREAKING AMAZING!~ :D
Get them from Cycletreads too, nice discount and free coffee BOOM! Sorted.

Seriously I liked my bike beforehand with shitty OEM tyres but with PR3s.... ooooomg. I just want to go in a continuous corner forever.

gijoe1313
28th March 2012, 14:27
Ah well, I guess you will know that it'd be sorted and your riding will be smoother (and not those gulp moments going into a corner!) Yes, I do recall you saying you weren't comfortable going into them! Glad you went and checked it out!

$600 ... money well spent on your ride, considering you got it for a good price (I guess the previous owner must have known these things were going to come up soon!)

And yes, I think Wanpo can speak from experience about the big bike cost equation (and the maestro of them all, Gremlin!)

Timmeh:P

Yeah not only can it cost you $$ to keep a big-boys bike running, but can cost you your license, your manhood (if it is a honda) and if you also own a hoyobag... well... you will be fixing something after every ride. :killingme

I was quite surprised it got through the hour endurance race. It makes a case for Hyosung reliability that it can be wrung out hard for an hour and still be wanting more.

Also you'll know what it feels like to be a big boy one day, when you finally decide to take the training wheels off and get a real bike.

I am working on the training wheels... I have raised them up a few more centimetres. :woohoo:

Don't think I will get rid of them though, they really help with low speed manoeuvres... Gymkhana here I come.

Tyre Metzeler M3 front 130/70-16 $274 inc GST

I have not personally used the m3's but i hear they were quite good. I recently fitted dunlop Sportmax sportsmarts to my bike and i love them.
I have not ridden on a better tire so far. I havebarely done 100km's from new and they are planted, grippy and tip in very smoothly.

I could also suggest Conti Road attack 2's for good overall wear and life. And i hear M5's are also very good.

Depends how much you want to spend.

Who is this motorcycle doctor you speak of? my bike is in need of a service badly and i want the best deal possible.

Have had M3's on CBR954 and CB919. Worked really good on both. Very sporty. Don't use as long distance tire, as it is not a sport touring tire for long trips.

I loved them on the Coro loop. Very confident inspiring.

Cheers all for the feedback. Im booked in for the steering head and front wheel bearings with George next week, and while hes about it Im replacing the rear sprocket, and gearing up a tiny bit to increase pick up. No complaints about the mid range, but there is no such thing as too much power ;)
Wanpo: I may try this eventually, but am keen to try what the bike feels like when its all sorted with new rubber. I do like how nimble it feels with the 16inch front wheel, so I may keep it stock for some time yet.
I may turn up for a ride tonight, but Ill only be cruising until I get this work done.

It was only me, the grave digger, and sharry off for a ride. I keep forgetting to fit a clear visor for these rides, so I had a bit of fun trying to see where I was going until I gave up and lifted the visor.

Two girls fighting, knives or not, that's entertainment!

Hoping the weather is good this weekend, gonna break in the new rear tyre, and new bearings up front. the bike feels so nimble now, when you tip it in it feels like you're riding a 250!

Bad news is the crappy undersized chain on the bike wont accomodate a new rear sprocket, so even though they are two months old, I have to replace the chain and front sprocket too.

Gremlin
13th April 2012, 16:52
Ideally you really should replace both sprockets and the chain at the same time, otherwise you'll suffer premature wear on the new part, shortening it's life.

Remember that the rear sprocket is 2-3 times the size of the front, so once the rear looks worn the front is probably fucked.

baffa
13th April 2012, 17:29
Yeah, I know. To explain though, around 2-3 months ago, just before I purchased the bike, the client told me the chain was getting replaced as it appeared rusty. They apparently also replaced the front sprocket, but not the rear. Since the chain is by no means old and the front looks okay, I was hoping to only have to replace the rear sprocket for now.

The problem with that is, the workshop fitted some cheap chain that isnt even the right size for the bike. It will not even accommodate a standard size rear sprocket. Not only that, but George pointed out to me just how crap it was, by flexing the chain, rolling the bike foward, and flexing it again. Big difference.

Long story short, the guy I bought it off shouldnt have bothered paying the workshop before I bought it, since they did a crap job with the plastic welding, fittied the wrong chain, and for all I know topped up the oil with WD40.

Well, apparently it's snowing in Hell. I went and dug Scoot out from whence she had been hibernating for a while, covered in dust and a dust cover... Scoot had been thrown in storage after the last track day I rode in NZ - but aside from a dead battery, strangely soft tires, and some bad connections in the ignition loom (thanks to ZXRider for wiggling wires until she screamed into life), she looks pretty good.

So, anyone up for a wee ride anytime soon?

Photographic evidence attached to prove that Scoot is no longer jammed in a shed with cobwebs, old cars, and my collection of jars of body parts...

Hey Guys,

Long havnt been keeping up here for ages now. But i thought you guys might be the best bunch to talk to regarding this (esp Wanpo and interceptor).

Im looking to switch my cruiser for a VFR800, seen a few at the dealers test rode two. One was bit out of my price range and another one was almost straight swap. But the engine of the one that i could afford pulses a little at low revs (held at constant throttle) which can be a bit annoying in first when the throttle is just cracked sort of thing. Is this normal? And also is it normal for the clutch basket ( i think) to rattle a bit when the clutch is fully let out when in neutral gear?

I couldnt really compare the two that i rode cause the first one i was just concentrating on keeping the shiny side up, completely different beast to the cruiser lol.

Have to join you guys again for a cruise one of these Mondays!

Thanks!

No pulse or rattle on my VFR800. Mine is a 2006. One feature of the VTEC engine though is that only two of the four valves per cylinder are in use until 6,400 rpm and then all valves roar into life which can make it a bit tricky if you're not expecting it/watching the revs but this wouldn't have occurred though if you were holding at a constant throttle. To add... there is VFR thread on this forum so you may get some additional advice depending upon what year/model you're considering: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/48618-VFR-owners-thread-for-VFRPS-members-and-prospective-members

Dont have his details and still cant find the video as it would have been one of the spectators not the video guy. sucks. have gotten colleen to send out a plea asking for the video.
once i get his details i can put them down on my insurance claim so i dont have my excesses go up.:argue::weep:

Bike's fine (much to that asian lady who tried to kill me's dismay).

Also you must be meaning the World Superbikes.

You guys didn't miss much with the Monza WSBK, first race was rained off, 2nd race was only 8 laps, and the coverage I have of it managed to completely skip all of the racing. So there was about 2 hours of watching bikes parked up on the starting grid.

It could easily have been two double podiums for us. I was in the lead, but Marco got in much too quick on both the last two corners. I didn't brake too hard and too late, but he came from a long way back and I had to lift off. I went to close the line, but Jonathan was there. Marco knows it was a big mistake. I don't blame Johnny. Obviously there are no team orders with BMW - Marco and I are both going for the championship, and that's racing.

In particular

I went to close the line, but Jonathan was there.
