Yeah, i agree the whole spectacle that the superbowl has become is a bit ridiculous, kinda indicitive of the endpoint of the americanisation of sports in general i guess. The first time a game stopped for a commercial break was the death of the NFL in my eyes.
I had booked my day off work and the couch at my mates place before the playoffs were done, so didnt know who would be playing. Turns out it's gonna be the shittest superbowl i can ever remember watching, but a crap game is better than no game i guess. Dont often get to watch my NFL, so gotta make the most of it while i can. All going well the game should be wrapping up around 6, so hoping to pop down afterward :wari:

If it's going tickticktickticktick after pressing the starter button, sounds like the battery is outta juice mate. If it's not holding charge after bump starting it and riding for a good while the regulator/rectifier might be going out.

Well the day started out on a slow note, zeocen turned up to BP Takanini where I was waiting for him ... for so long, even my dad turned up in the car and filled up! :slap:
Anyway off we pootle to the stop and we see HungusMaximist talking to Shingo. A ton of scroters abounded and Badger8 rocked on up - chomping at the bit wanting a wee ride on a Big Ol'Hornet to convince himself of their merits! Consumed Korean ice cream which was like a sponge ice cream sandwich ...
Eventually GXSR Trace and ... Gremlin turn up. Was quite unexpected to see Gremlin ride semi-normal!
Well, usual kibbitzing aside - rode to Otahuhu to eat at a Vietnamese restaurant (who must have thought they were turning into a biker hangout!) and then to the point of these gatherings ...
Riding!
So rode we did via Botany to the twisties of Whitford (but first filling up!) and then to Maraetai. A quick stop at Clevedon was the official end of the ride to allow people who suddenly turn into pumpkins to go back to their fields!
Guess who? Zeocen! But to be fair, Clevedon was the end point :msn-wink: At this point, I let Gremlin take point - Trace wasn't feeling her mojo, but she was riding just fine!
It was at this point, the ride went a left turn into the usual farce associated with Gremlin and gijoe1313 :slap: All went well until Gremlin decided to head left after a certain point ... I was thinking ... "hmmm this could be interesting!"
And interesting it proved
Nice roads and suddenly down hill twisties, with gravel at night! :woohoo:
 I had to admit, I was chortling a wee bit at the thought of Trace ahead getting furious at Gremlin at this! I think Gremlin is to Trace as I am to Trump Lady! :innocent:
All good ... until we head down to the Mangatawhiri straights ... but get to Mangatangi! Badger8 threw a luvverly left hook into Gremlin's gut and I was trying not to piss myself laughing!
Ah well, fine myself in the unusual position of being back first and posting! :gob: I bet some of the others did more milage then me tonight! :slap:

Well that was an interesting little pootle...
Joe has filled in well the start, so let me take over from Clevedon...
"Just about 20 or 30 more k's" he said...
"Have you home by 10" he said...
"Just a little further" he said...
Needless to say many many k's later, we plow into some downhill gravel :woohoo: Now of course i adjusted my screen a few days ago, and didnt realise my headlight is now pointing 4 foot in front of me on full beam! :shit: Was great fun in the rough stuff. Get to the end and gremlin playin with his GPS as usual. Looking back, still no headlights... Sidestraddle the bike and turn to look back... few minutes later some light emerge, and off we go...
Hrm, this is a fairly main highway... dont recognise it tho... wonder where we are, feels like we're heading the wrong way somehow... *sign appears... with something-or-other k's to TAURANGA on it...*
WHAT THE *#$@?!?!
Gremlin pulls over and much confusion ensues. AH! ok, we're on the new bit of SH2, that's why i didnt recognise it... a mighty SMACK on the back protector from me and all is well :bleh:
Up and over the traffic island i go, and back to dorklund for some well overdue kip.
Been a long day, and i possibly have a second round interview or a new job tomorrow, so better get some kip.
Night all! :wari:

Gremlin in his glorious aspect ... see his fearsome visage! A Spartan hero, forbidding to behold - terrible his wrath, great his anger!
A hero of riding!
Smoted roads lie asunder, conquered by his skill and steed of design.
Tarry not long on straights he does,
Small is the error, large is his skill!
Gremlin!
A champion of the biker gods, a quasi-deity made mortal,
to show us the way and unto the roads he rides!

For the record i am normally all up for adventure, and loved the roads. Not being able to see wasnt so fun, but that was soon remedied at the stop. Just this particular evening i wasnt up for a long night, as i was in need of some rest.
I was very tempted to just head for home at clevedon, but felt it was a little short for even a short evening jaunt. Then i had assurances of only 20 or 30k tops, so figured that'd round out the evening just nicely. Lets just say i'm glad i had my earplugs in, cause i was scream-singing inside my hemlet all the way back on the moronway to keep myself with it, and it somehow kept me warmer too

I distinctly heard 20-30kms is all we were doing... then i heard gremlin was taking the lead and he start programming his gps... oo oh!
heading into a rather step down hill section there were 30km signs and i was praying it was just signs left up for no good reason... but NO! just getting my nerve back and gremlin bloody leads me into gravel 3 days after getting a new bike!
But note: i was not the one who started the comments as to taking me through gravel.. that was GI Joe - i don't care about ticking through it, but was gutted it was already dirtay! i couldn't bare to uncover her this morning and see the dirt! poor GI Joe was stuck behind me ticking through the bloody gravel - no wonder he was the oen to comment!
i was glad to hear when we stopped that the other two had no idea where we were either!
Unfortunately, i was the one who ended up infront of zeocen... while im riding like crap, that just happens to be when there is a camera!

Anything higher is faggot wankery.
Actually, its to do with the compression of the engine. A higher compression motor needs a higher octane, to prevent lots of technical words I don't care about. Do a search... lots of brainy people have said brainy things about this.
I can only chuckle at all of this! :innocent: When I saw Gremlin go up into Pinnacle road instead of going straight, I knew he was adding another 15-20km to the route!
No... I distinctly remember Badger asking if we could do the Paparimu straights, as he liked those. Accordingly, the route was altered to cater for his needs. Otherwise, we could have gone basically south, instead of a detour to the east first.
I was always heading to Mangatawhiri, but needed to come out onto SH2 before the devation, to test a raised issue with gps still preferring to route people onto the old SH2 (which it did indeed).
Anyway... I also have a recollection of commenting that now I had 4 people following me! The others chuckled, and pretended to rub their hands with glee (little did they know, this was for real), so who do they really have to blame? :devil2:

Yer, what he said... My hornet runs much happier on 95... gixxers apparently run well on 91, zxr's well on 91 ridden hard, 95 round town etc... depends on allsorts of jiggery pokery. My old cage got better mileage on 95 to the point the extra money outlaid at the pump made it cheaper overall. The ute seems to go better on 91. :whocares:

Well since noone was kind enough to join me for a pootle I decided to explore some roads in my back yard....
Was inspired by all your gravel adventures yesterday and was gutted I couldn't attend...
Did some interesteing tarmac on the back of riverhead and discovered a beautiful road that no bikers ever get onto ...guess why ....half of it is dirt road. Oh my god the views I saw were spectacular. Little streams, wide fields, vineyards...etc
It so happened that that road comes back close to Kaukapakapa and then I decided to go down another unfamiliar road , which also turned to gravel. So I keep on patootaling along the nice hard packed gravel. Saw more fabulous forests, gorgeous gardens, a bunny, beautiful trees. I'm telling you people I'm sold on the whole adventure riding business
At one point after about 15km of nice dirt gravel road I saw a sign that said "Puhoi - 20km". "Wooooaaaaa cool" me thinks - "I'm doing the famous Puhoi back road" :D And yep as it turned out i had gone from albany all the way to puhoi via mainly dirt and gravel roads. and boy oh boy what a fun thing to do.

Well Only rode to work and back today but yesterday was a pretty sweet day...
Got up early at 8:30 and seeing that I couldnt sleep no more dedicated myself to going down to paeroa and check the plce where the races will be.
On the way down , stopped at Bp autobahn and saw a giant Muscle car...see pics...
also on the way to paeroa I got to the newly built SH2 connection wich was very straight and boring...so decided to take a side road and what do you knwo - found 15 km of unknown twisties with spectacular views
went down to paeroa and found out the best place to wath the races ...:D
After I had a lookie at paeroa started doing the coro loop. Cought up to some bikers, did a part of the loop wth them. Stopped at the crosses of LooseBruce and DSS as it is traditional on a coro loop to be done. Got rained on alottle bit but was cool. nice roads , no cagers - primo. Whole coro for myself.
Pretty good fun - hadnt done coro in a while. Saw a few smurfs but as I was behaving I had nothing to worry about :D
Got in time to do the ATNR with the big boys and even tho I almost screwed one corner I had fun wif them.
after the ATNR met with GIJOE and the film crew and listened some interesting ideas about a future TV programe for bikers :) and afterwords I led the camo ninja trough some local roads.
We ended up in a bar place in ponsonby sipping to ginger beer and relaxing ...nice day all in all :niceone:

Well, Badger8, Toto and I got together after fivish today to do some spannering. Pippi needed some long overdue love and attention!
I hear the throaty throb of the Hooligan and as I popped out to see ... I saw TOTO getting off the hooligan and Badger in a cage :gob:
Giving him the usual stick, we quickly got to talking shite about bikes and eventually whipped out the spannerific equipage.
Well that was as good as it got. Three hours of farfing about, my noobness with not wielding a spanner for ages saw me shear off a brass bolt head that was essential to good running.
We dropped out the engine, I undid an oil plug which didn't need to ... and basically hamfisted our way through the botched operations! Ahh good times! :o
For some reason, the piston wouldn't slip in easily - and I made lots of filthy innuendo which totally distracted Badger ... TOTO was just watching all of these proceedings with "is this what spannering is?"
Well, as the rain rolled in, night casted it's blanket over our fair land - we cleaned up the tools and ourselves and headed off to get a feed.
Cheers to the crew for giving me a hand - looks like I will need to sort out a couple of more parts to get Pippi going again ASAP! :o
Big Ol'Hornet was watching with horror ... Daisy and Betsy were kinda glad their little sister was being mangled first before they got seen to next!

Well what a day! Swarmers out and about... not all on their hornet's though! :shit:
I took the venerable Toto out with the mighty KDX to tackle a bit of offroad fun out at the sandpit (the old Woodhill bike park). He had a lot of learning to do... first time offroad, first time on a 2-stroke, first kick-starter. He got on the bike, then suddenly forgot all his bike knowledge!
"Umm... how do i change gears??"
"Dude... it's just like your bike..."
*Toto stomps right boot on rear brake*
":eek5:Erm... that's the brake..."
"Oh, yeah! :D"
*Badger smacks forehead*
But after a rough start, the young fella came along in leaps and bounds :2thumbsup Popped his first stand-up power wheelie, was whippin through the trails, and got the hang of it nicely.
I somehow managed to blow the back end out of the cooling system (after just flushing it clean last week! :bash:) Splashed some water in the reservoir and bunged up the cap hole with some electrical tape, that shit'll be fine... Boiled a bit more out, but she seemed to reach equilibrium eventually. The poor girl was roastin away through the forest trails, so just more excuse to thrash it down the straits for a bit of cooling
After a good 5 hour stint at the bike park, was time to head back. Stopped off for a compulsory strawberry icecream on the way back past kumeu, then back to chateau deu` Badger to unload. Toto had a nice cool shower while i waterblasted the dirtbike down and threw the gear away, tough at the top! :p
Then off we tore post haste to chateau deu` GIJoe for much spannering mayhem. And i DO mean mayhem... we started off pulling allsorts of things apart, then got half way done and started wondering why the hell we were pulling this bit apart to begin with! :eek5:
Ended up dropping the engine out completely, removing and dismantling carbies (both petrol and oil carbs), removing chain, and more i'm sure i've forgotten... we got half way through each, and wondered why the hell we were pulling said piece apart! so reassembled everything... after about 2 wasted hours in which we achieved nothing but damage, we did the top end rebuild part in a matter of minutes! Well, as best we could considering only 1 split ring for the gudgeon pin, missing roller bearing for a while, 1 smashed piston ring, and a piston that wouldnt really fit up the barrel even with persuasion of the badger variety... Much innuendo around how bikes are clearly female, and two stroke oil used in connotations even i hadnt considered before
So in the end we cut our losses and got a feed, talked more rot, and headed for home :niceone:
one heck of a long day, i smell like a rotten goat...
pics to come soon!

Well it sounds as if all fun (kind of ) ,,, great to hear that you got TOTO out to play in the dust ,,, what is the track like at the mo ?
Well i think after an evening of learning from the master about taking things apart and putting them back ,,, maybe you need to do a bit on the KDX , dont want it to splatter deep in the forest and have to push the "BITCH" back now ,,, ha ha .
What was wrong with "Pippi " ???

Track was pretty good today, usually good (and also not many people there :)) if you get out on a weekday. They've done a bit of work on the main road too, much better now.
Done far too much work on the KDX lately, was good to get out and ride her hard again! :devil2: Done top end rebuild, coolant system, chain and sprockets, and various other bits and bobs in the last few weeks. Not much left to do, surely?
She really doesnt seem to like the forest trails though, the poor girl starts boilin her coolant far too easily it seems. Any tips to help avoid this? or just thrash her harder cause she likes it rough n dirty? She comes right fairly quickly once i get onto the main trunk roads and get some speed up for air over the radiator and keep the water pump ticking over, but that's nowhere near as much fun as the forest trails

a 900 hornet headlight unit is the answer my friend. You will think you were reborn, honestly
Really? I know your 900 has an aftermarket bulb of some sort, but mine is absolutely shite for night time. Worryingly so. Perhaps I was spoilt on the ER6F (it was amazingly great for night riding) but when I flip on my full on the Hornet, it just lights up everywhere AROUND the centre of the road, all in all dip is safer in my current situation.
Frustrating cause winter is coming up and 95% of my riding will be at night once again :(

The high beam is always up-and-out, i find if i set my low beam at the right angle i never actually need high beam, but if i set it at an angle where high-beam is good, low beam is completely useless. So i set it a little high with a bright bulb, and only ever use high beam to alert cages to my presence
The bulb is an H4, fairly standard. We can pull it apart one day and find out. Am out of town for a couple of days, can do it next week? Shout me a pint and we're all good :apint:

Well i feel like a real biker now...
Just rode home in three and a half hours of pouring rain, in my summer gear :Punk: Stopped for gas and donned my trash-sack motif`, most stylish this season.
One or two hairy moments, but made it home in one piece :)
By the time i made it home my hands were blue from wet perforated leather summer gloves, and pruned from wet and cold. My joints barely moved as i awkwardly dismounted, and i had been busting for a slash for a good 2 hours
1. Dunno if it showed up very well in the photo, but colourful wet squigyness came out of my gloves as i propped myself on the tank to dismount.

Well yesteday had promiced to be a nice riding day from what I saw on the forcast on friday...
I woke up at 5am to meet GSXR Trace and MusicMan at a Shell petrol station in the city for a 6am shoot off to New Plymouth. I show up at 5:50 and so does GSXR Trace. We start with our normal chat about about various biker scum things but MusicMan is nowhere to be seen...
At 6:15 I leave sir MusicMan a remindful message on his voicemail and what do you know , I get a txt back to tell me that he is coming. So the three amigos (ok Two amigos and one amiga) were together and ready to shoot of at 6:40.
By that time it had started to drizle slightly and both GSXR Trace and I blamed it on MusicMan coz we would have been out of cloudy Auckland by now and staying dry...or so we taught.
Turned out that that the clouds were covering most of the auckland region and also going all the way to Te Kuiti...but anyway.
We stoped at Ngarawahea after doing a run on sh1 to reevaluate our situation and have some food. Turned out of MusicMan and I were completely drenched while GSXR Trace was feeling quite optimistic and warm :oi-grr:
So mr. TOTO decided to put some biker thinking in place and got us some rubbish bags and some nice pink dishwashing gloves. Needless to say that we attracted a croud at Ngarawahea Bp petrol station who were watching us with curiousity, as you might expect people to do in a Zoo watching baboons in their natural habitat or something.
We incorporated those tools afailable to the modern day biker and proceeded our jurney on to Te Kuiti dressed in that sexy manner (See pics). It still rained but we didnt care - we are BIKERS.
In Te kuiti we were greeted by the warm sun which came from behind the clouds to say "Hi" and also GSXR Trace's dad on his ZZR 1200 who had come from New Plymouth to meet us and lead us trough his roads.
We did SH3 trough the gorge and some very nice vews were shown to us together with some gorgeous roads. We also saw plenty of bikes out and about. One biker on what lookes like a red RVF 900 was carying a pillion coming the other way and almost crossed the centre line while GSXR Trace and MusicMan were taking a bend. That was NOT COOL :angry2: with the amount of head on collisions lately and people still ride like retards (read outside their limits). And that idiot had a pillion with him. must have been showing off. It is unfortunate that female presence leads us males to wanna try kill our selfs. I think its not fair :oi-grr:
We arived in new plymouth at about 12:30 and we took the scenic route to Tracey's house. We saw the seal colony, the big rock with steps on it that you can climb on, also the anthena man and one old lady that tried to run me and the hooligan off the road...but its all part of being a biker I guess.
At Tracey's house we were treated like roaylties - super tasty sandwiches made from home made bread  I was also given the use of the family's Chain oil for the mighty hooligan for which I'm grateful and most impotrantly I was given directions to the best rides in the region - hurrraaaaaaay :woohoo:
I left Trace and Musicman in New Plymouth and was lead out of the town By Tracey's day (what a cool dad) and Tracey's sister in law (also a biker and also called Tracey). Farewell was given and I set off to visit Mt Eggmont (see pics).
Some gorgeous road leading to the Mt. Eggmont Summit from Stafford - 15 km of super twisty stuff. Only problem is its not sign posted so every corner is a new adventure, but good seal and not overly complicated so was all good. Arived in the summit and discovered a gorgeous view of the mountain (well almost from what I could see behind that cloud) and a spectacular view of the land beneath. The whole taranaki region as far as I could see was very flat with no hlls which expplains the neck braking wind I encountered after getting down from the mountain and on the way to Wanganui.
Wanganui is a spectacular place for relaxation - nice river, the trees around it, ducks and swans everywhere - paradice.
I saw the ocasional boi racer but pretty begaved place. I had just put petrol and saw on my docket a voucher for domino pizza - and what do you know - a domino's pizza was just next door. I had a tasty pizza in wanganui and set on may way. It was then when I saw a Bike Squid on the traffic lights on a yamaha fzr who was keen to have a crack at racing me trough the centre of wanganui, but after seeing that I'm more interested in the older style buildings and checking out the Banana Bridge, he gave up.
So i left wanganui and took Sh4 to the Peremuremu(sp??). I think this is right up there with the coromandel loop. The views are fantastic, and the corners are all tight 45k. It is by all means no place for racing or veing an idiot tho because overshooting a corner on many places means a 300 metre drop down the rocks into the river, or what could be even worse , running wide and going trough one of many Cheesecutters and afterwords this being followed by a 300m drop on top of the rocks and into the river. a mistake on the bike on that road is 90% certain death. All that said, the views are spectacular and well worth the ride :niceone:
Had a stop and a rest at Ruakawa falls (see pics). This is trully something that needs to be seen. The falls are not so high as they are wide and the noise is reallycalming.
Arived in National park at about 7pm and filled up some gas just before the station closed. the sun was on its way down by that time and was getting chilli so I decided to incorporate my biker wisdom again and dress in some fancy rubbish bags - one on the inside and one on the outside. The rubbish bags had written on them "Extra Thick" so that may explain some of the gorgeous smiled I got from female gas attendants everywhere I stopped for gas or a hot drink afterwords.
The road from national park to hamilton woke up my mojo again and those sweepers were a so great. almost no cars, so had the whole road to myself. Scaring catle everywhere I passed and hearing the echo from the hooligan coming back to me from the buildings in small vilages. 3rd and 4th gear at 100km sound soo nice on the hooligan
Arived in Hamitol at about 9. I saw a BIG rat cross the street. tarts right - hamilton has bloody BIG rats  Had a hot water and a chat with a bike loving kids and set on my way back to sin city.
On the Moronway home I came up with an enginoius method of traffic tow incorporating rabbits ensuring no smurfs ever catch ya going fastish
So arived home at 11pm and having done around 1300km I feel happy. The hot shower I had when I got home was such a god given :2thumbsup
p.s. Badger, we all need to go for a ride wearing rubbish bags. we will be know and the Rubbish Sack Gang and everyone will fear us.

Well somehow I ended up doing the atypical Hornet swarm ride this evening! I was out and about with zeocen going to Botany Honda and Mt Eden MC to check up on some rides with my pillion.
zeo was quite funny with his new purchase of a pack rack ... the ventura purchase needed to be done twice since his first selection was sans clips to stop bag from flying off! :slap: I was afearful of Richard McF alone with a vulnerable and new rider to be! :eek2: Ah well, those chaps at Botany Honda are good sorts when they aren't trying to chisel the last dollar out of your leathers! :msn-wink:
Eventually farfing around ended and we tootled off to Mt Eden and spent a leisurely time with bike pr0n.
Leaving zeo to fend his way home (turning into a pumpkin again), the pillion and I had a quick nosh up at a convivial asian eatery at the K of Road. Tummies full, we decided to go the long way home (ahh an attitude that is the same as mine!) and though it was damp, it was twisty and much fun was to be had. Did the St Heliers GP and down through to Botany we wended and through Whitford we rode!
Jeez, so much for not doing a Hornet Swarm Night ride tonight! :innocent:

Mine's consistently getting UNDER 20km/l and Toto's always getting better fuel economy than me and he's got +1 tooth on the back :angry2:

17th February 2009, 20:59
Well it was such a nice afternoon, and i was getting off work at 3pm. Stuff it, i'm going riding! :sunny:
Fling round some texts just before 3, manage to round up one swarmer for a pre-swarm swarm in the form of Toto.
So off to the gassie i roll, splittin traffic and passed a few cops, no bothers though :)
We fuel up bikes and bodies, and we are off! The plan was to do scenic drive, but the traffic was building a bit, so we headed out old north road and up a few sideroads i havent done before. Back onto old north and Toto pulled over. He steps off the Hooligan and waves me in for a landing... Me: "Oh, go on then! :D"
I saddle up and gingerly take off, click second and give her a little squeeze of the trigger... OH MY SWEET SAVIOUR! :2thumbsup
I still remember when i stepped up from the GN to the hornet, i noticed that i LOVED second gear roll-ons, it felt like a bolt of lightning after the GN (part of the reason for the name "White Lightning"). The step from the lil ol hornet to the hooligan was like 8 times better again! I had a good little tootle round on it, gave it a little stick here and there, and really had to hold on when i did. It is just so smooth and effortless right across the rev range, i have fallen in love with biking all over again  It is just so confidence inspiring, but whilst still meeting a major criteria for my big bike: MUST still be fun at legal speeds. And that it most certainly is! I think it is gonna be hard to beat out the Hornet 9 as a contender for my next bike
We then did scenic drive in the end, and lots of ther great roads out that way that i have never done before (first time doing scenic drive today :p)
So we arrived to the library at 10 to 7 in the end, a little late but well ridden already
Well, we've done north / west, lets go southside! So i led us off down the moronway through to whitford, maraetai, and clevedon where we stopped for a slash and a rest. Andy and i have have jobs that start in the AM (Toto you lucky sod!), so we were due to turn into pumpkins before long. So twilight road it was, then back to noodle canteen in botany for a feed and a chinwag. Led the boys back to the motorway and tootled on home.
My afternoon has truly been full of win!
a BIG thanks to Toto for the ride of the Hooligan today, and for leaving me on there for so long (methinks he saw the grin on my face through my helmet )
Pics to come in a few minutes!

well I was at home today, Listening to latno music and giving the hooligan a service.
Changed oil and filter, managed to clean the chain and both sprockets and set of to wash it. Just before I finished poliching the hooligan I get a TXt from Badger - " hey its such a nice day outside. wanna do a pre swarm ride ?"
So met badger at Shell westgate at 4:30 and we set of for a smallish ride. We did some secret roads on the north side (but I still have one secret one I need to show yo falks). Then we did some west roads did the befles beach, then shcenic drive then Te Atatu.
So we rock up at the library at 5 to 7 to fing Andy_r all by himself and almost hidden behind all the Triooomph motorcycles that were having gathering to discuss who has a bigger oil leak.
Since me and badger had already done north and west , we decided that he would show us around some stuff on the east. We set off and did Botany, maraetai, clevdon and Twilight road to finish at botany town centre. badger and Myself ate some noodles whole andy was sipping on a coke. We had a chat about filthy biker scum things and we set out on our way.
Nice night tinight falks. catch ya on the next one :niceone:

I was getting my Big Ol'Hornet in for it's 36 000km service a week ago ... and finally got around to putting up the piccies of what I got as a loaner!

so twin leo vince cans, power commander, some tweaking here and then (but with that accursed pack racking thingabob! :oi-grr:)
