Awesome, congratulations! By the way, do you work just off Garfield St in Parnell? I saw someone who looked like you riding down Garfield revving their bike at a slow car in front. I was on my work bike on the footpath.

Oh yeah...

After saving for about 1,000 light years...
... a light year is a measure of distance. Sorry. :bleh:

The trip was actually pretty neat. As for the track - I have almost finished the track bike (k5 GSXR6), just waiting on a bolt for the swingarm ($40 odd bucks and 14 days???!!!), and then it will be pretty much complete. As for giving up riding?, no chance. I'll be riding much less on the road though, too many close calls and 8 lives gone...

So, short story long, she said yes, and we're getting wedded in Feb 2011.

I have already congratulated you and commiserated with her, so I won't repeat myself....:devil2:

GSXRTrace, MsKABC, TOTO, GIJOE, Sharry, Badger - this means I can no longer attend your key in the hat parties that I grew so fond of. :)

I'm waiting on a swingarm bolt. For the want of a nail, a kingdom was lost... I know a GSXR isn't as cool, pretty, or as fast as a triumph (when it's actually going...), but you'll love my humble little pint around the Nurbur-Downs racetrack (oh, they're in the process of laying the tarmac, looks really great).

As for correcting mi gramma - yuv dun a gud joob off traning mi.

Commiserated with her? And you're my friend??? :)

As for riding with his hand on his dick, he was too busy looking like a slow, wobbly fool. Besides, would he have that much time to do the intensive search required to find that alledgedly under-performing piece of skin...

Now, I am reporting you to CYF's for having the cheek to spread naked kiddie porn... :woohoo:

Ride Report : So today, got up and thought that the weather looked beautiful for gear testing and decided to go to Puhoi for cream tea and scones(very very good btw). Turned out to be the 2nd scariest in my short biking career(less than a year)! Rain was alright but wind was really strong, especially when you get cross winds. Anyway, didn't crash the bike but to my shock horror, toward the end of my ride back to auckland my sodden bavaclava was streaming cold rain water right down in thru my neck and straight onto the t-shirt and my new diadora boots leaked! Any body with any leaky boot experience?:argh:

You suck...
so hang on, wait, did you count as gear when you rode bitch? :bleh:
Least you're a bit of extra padding! :dodge:

I have a cordura jacket i got on sale from when i first started riding (Goretex FTW ) Got a dririder overjacket to use if i get caught out in my leather jacket, but i dont like riding in it (find it restricts my freedom of movement and the riding fee quite a lot)
Workmans over-trousers to put over pants if needed. Got em on sale for $20 (Emphatex brand, soft thin flexible but 100% waterproof.) The only drawback is they dont breathe at all, so can be a bit clammy under them for a long ride.
Alpinestars waterproof gloves, do up my wrists on the jacket over top of them and they've never leaked. (My old Spidi H2Outs leaked like a sieve first wet ride this winter, so got rid of them quick smart)
Gearne sport/road boots, have only ever leaked the slightest little bit at the bottom of one of the zips, but that was after riding through a lot of surface water and effectively close-range waterblasting them for a 2-day ride.
i always wear a hood under my helmet and tucked into my jacket (Rev-it brand, full hood with a bit down the chest.) helps stop rain getting in round the neck, and dripping in off the helmet. Also keeps the wind noise down a lot, and stops bees and rocks getting down into the jacket (has saved me at least three times that i have noticed)
Used to be in a Nitro helmet, now in a Shoei Multitec. Only had minor leaks if i've been stupid enough to ride in rain with the top vents open. Never had a problem otherwise.

I didn't get out on the bike all weekend. The list of chores getting back has been stupidly long. But I now have a mostly finished bathroom, kitchen, living room, and study.

I bought a lawn mower on the weekend. It's the first new lawnmower I've ever owned. Well, it's also the first lawnmower I've ever owned. Got me thinking about bikes - I've never owned a brand new bike. Must be a neat experience.

Had such a fantastic ride on Sunday. Decided we needed to go out regardless of the weather - So John and I figured we'd rather be stuck in the rain up north, than stuck in the rain on the southern motorway.

Quick blast up SH16, for lunch at Wellsford. Then went for an explore down the road to Port Albert. WOW! If i can ever recommend a good play road! Excellent visibility on corners, mix of higher speed, and lower speed stuff. Its a playground!

Then it bucketed down once we got into the back roads of Albany - My Ixon jacket did a pretty good job in the wet stuff. Just a bit damp around the cuffs. Pants were good, but the ol Gaerne boots were champion - 100% water proof and toasty warm.

Lil guy loved his first oil change. :)
Need to do fuel filter and air filter next.
Oh and fit some Renthall bars - suggests to which?

TOTO

If you don't want to sell a kidney to get some Renthals, there are always the nice chromey Ventura (http://www.ventura-bike.com/products.aspx?code=Street+Bars)ones made right here in NZ. They have a bunch of different rises and sweeps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn-eQDWm6U4). $50 IIRC.

Well, the crossbar itself isn't toooo bad but the foam protector on it is HIDEOUS.

Can you get Rethals without the crossbar?

Oh, and I'm pretty n00bs at this whole new bar thing. The fat bars or MX bars or whatever, are they larger in diameter than standard and is that why you need the bar adaptor things?

Only reason I'm really after new ones eventually is cos I bent the left side on my bike slightly :o
and if I could have my arms sit a liiiiiittle further out that would be nice as the palm of my hands rest on the bar ends at the moment.

Simon
19th August 2009, 13:18
There's a whole suite of Renthal 7/8 road bars, that'll fit. Just a matter of deciding what sort of sweep and rise you'd like. I'm thinking I'd like to be leaning forward a little more. Probably more uncomfortable around town, but better on the open road with a bit of wind pressure. I think its only the "street fighter" road bar that has the cross brace.

Oh, I got in trouble with that once before with a ride on. Removing the limiter worked well, K&N scooter filter also helped, running it on AVGas improved things out of sight, re-gearing the rear end was good for lifting the front - and removing the baffles from the exhaust; well, that was less popular with the neighbours, got me discovered, and both my friend and I got in trouble with his wife. Yes, I was very afraid of his wife; she was evil without sanity and care.

The mods also seemed detrimental to the lifespan of that motor.

And the difference is in the care factor as well. I actually paid for this lawnmower...

Renthal bars have a massive range. First you have the types, streetfighter, mx, etc. In each category, you have a range, based on sweep, rise, width etc. They will also differ if rotated in the mounts a little.

Best you ask a shop if they have a few, to try putting them on your bike, next to the mounts, and see what you think.

I have an mx set of Renthals, quite flat, pulled the foam roll off it (its just velcro) and the cross brace can be handy for mounting things on.

Not that you're going to notice. The 9s will run colder so they will only really benefit you if you're going to give it death everywhere / track use. I run 8s in mine and they are brilliant (and it gets a good workout reasonably often :shifty:). When I ran 9s they gave me grief with fouling. It's more a case of handling the punishment without fouling when nana'ing around town rather than outright performance.

Yeees. Well I bought my last set at Colemans, but any reputable bike shop should stock 'em. They are a pretty standard plug, common to CBR250 etc. Unfortunately, the price is just what it is. It's a volume manufacturing thing. $80 a set is not unusual for bikes. Remember you've got a 'high performance' 250cc engine there - equiv of 160hp/litre, so plug changes often...carb balancing often...oil changes often...$$$ often.

Suggestions on where to get them? Seem to be around the $20ea mark, which to me seems to stupid money considering they're not iridium. Whatever happended to good ol $5 spark plugs. (gawd the bosch plugs i bought for my Mazda were $28ea?!)

I can get a set of 4 CR9EH-9 or 8 plugs for $50 (plus or minus depending on exchange rate) but I need a bulk order say 4 or 5 set to make it worth while. Anyone interested?

I stop bringing huge bulks now because my current bikes do not use em anymore...

Wasn't me either, I was riding home!

I'm always on the southern motorway morning and evening, rain, hail or shine. So if you see a red hornet with a ridiculously large topbox on it, that's me, give me the fingers so I know you're a KB'er!

zeocen

So who was the extremly courteous red hornet on the Southern heading into town today? I was all excited about seeing another red beast that my speed made a small jump and before I got up to him he gestured me to slow down. Not many people look out for their fellow bikers tha much ! Then I had a nice ride into town with a fellow hornet, great start to Friday !!

Met up with Rozzie (EatOrBeEaten) and her man thing, and went for a little pootle. Went out St Helliers way, and stopped to change to clear visor. Threw the Ferkinator on the back of the Hornetto for his first ride on a big bike in years, and took the GP at good pace :2thumbsup Funny to see the look on his face, and maybe changed his mind about a big IL4 after all :wari:

no sir, the respondent was simply submitting that it was a privately arranged get-away-from-uni ride, which was independent any such "hornet swarm". This was evidenced by the fact that there was only one hornet in the group and therefore unable to be considered a "swarm".

Hay hay , what's the news on the baby red???

The wrong part was sent, so the right one is on the way. It hasnt arrived yet so may not have ait back for the weekend.

The loan bike has been a right poo. I have had to put it on the battery charger for 30 mins every morning or it goes flat before it starts.

Today after work it was flat. So they sent the ute with .....wait for it....... a mighty GN on the back to swap. But the traffic stopped it before it got to the bridge. It took the poor bugger an hour to move 5ks.
So my daughter picked me up from work and in the morning I have a blessed 2 hour train ride to get to work.

ME? Well I'm hoping it rains so hard tomorrow that I cant walk to the train station

Yes for this inaugural ride, some old and new faces! T'was a pleasant day for it, passing fine was the weather and peace enough to sooth the savage soul.

Until everybody else showed up! :pinch: First the great pumpkin, zeocen turned up sans pants and on the wrong side of the road, and then thick and fast they came ... Big Dave and Interceptor being the new faces on a swarm ride! Jeaves was there to associate with filthy honda biker scum, but legged it before he could catch anything from us. Badger was there to make a guest appearance and didn't thump Gremlin once!

Much oohing and aahing over BD's new loaner and much surprise evinced at the plethora of panoply festooned over it! :gob:

I noticed the lads were playing with Sharry's headlights :o (ooer!) and much tweaking and pinching with squeals of delight from yonder lass (her headlight was functioning most appreciably 25 x betterer, so you sorry lot can drag your filthy minds out of the gutter!)

Much fighting over the coveted TEC position with Gremlin, grumpily remonstrating over who should have the honour! :slap: Then as we left, Sharry makes a completely wrong turn resulting in zeocen having to go rescue her.

Anyway nice little pootle around the back ways out as Interceptor has alluded to, seems it was the night for happenstance meetings as Zapf and justsomeguy crawled out of the woodwork! Typical chapati curry swilling, gold hoarding, wife beating, child worker molestering dairy owner, bet he was only here to pick up his social welfare benefits :p Anyway nice grub at Momo tea house, the asianz there were aghast at the filthy biker scum that washed in from outside. Gremlin even managed to only use 30 of his 50 schizophrenic personalities tonight. Moar gasbagging outside and much laughter at everyone else's expense.

Oh yeah, I took the long way back home again and re-rode all the roads we rode today!

I was playing with my high beam on the way home and embaressed two young people standing beside thier car

A nice little gathering of like minded enthusiasts of motorbiking. Slow and easy with some nice scenery and roads to move our bikes on. The red bean ice cream I had ... was an interesting idea, but wasn't a hit, better in a bun! TOTO and I ate noodles at Daikoku at the end, Interceptor had to make curfew to begin his graveyard shift - congrats on the new addition to the family! :niceone:

Well that was an interesting Hornet Swarm ride tonight! :gob: In hindsight looking back to it again, I realised my sixth sense was telling me not to go down the way I was about to go :pinch: But ... oh nooooo ... Gremlin had to insist we go back to do the original route (and I was shaking my head no no no!)

The ride out to Huia was all fine and well, along the way we encountered a European marque that was stalled on the side of the road - good on TOTO for stopping out to help. It was the return back through some downhill twisties, that saw the Big Ol'Hornet start to do some antics of it's own, sliding across the road ... well thankfully an ART day gave me trust in my ride's capabilities and I just rode it out with some countersteering (obviously duh!) and constant throttle. Felt my left boot scrape all along the side! Wheee! :sweatdrop

Anyway, TOTO then decides to head off to the locked gate (no longer able to get to the dam) and we all kibbitz about where to eat. So back onto the original route I wanted to ride and we pop out into Ponsnobby to chow down at the upstairs food court.

Lots of tales, unfortunately all too true, and much banter, gufffawing, facepalming to be had.

Pretty much par for the course for a Monday Night Swarm Ride! Cheers peeps, spot you all next week!

Well well, just got back home and the troupe of Jason, Sharry and TOTO with Ting as a pillion are enroute to their various abodes. Good turn out tonight! Plenty of riders lying around when I turned up and true to form, no idea of a ride was discussed!

Anyway we ended up at Maraetai where we intimidated the local fish n'chippie until they realised we were there to order! Scoffing the nosh down by the beach was a first and many a belch was emitted. Finally, a ride out to Port Waikato separated the hard core frorm the pumpkin eaters.

Just another reminder on this ride : When you cannot see the headlight of the bike behind you, you need to slow down so it gets passed up the chain to ride leader! :pinch:  Oh well, guess I will have to keep bringing this point up!

Anyway, plenty of possums on the road, I smacked one on the nose and tail I think and the others have their own tales to tell. Good ride peeps, and somehow I managed to avoid riding another 120km tonight! :innocent:

Good ride, good ride.

I'm guilty of not slowing down when the ones behind us disappear... in my (shoddy) defense - I hadn't heard that point before!

Must say though, I think I jinxed myself by telling Jason how much I hate riding in the rain and dark with a tinted visor. Lo and behold, as soon as we set off from the darkening beach it started to rain... Many a bug commited suicide upon my face.

zeocen
16th February 2010, 09:19
It was a great ride, I must say. Nice and sedate and everyone behaved, until Toto stopped to change his light height.. I said I would run on forward to let everyone else know - gosh it took me an age just to catch up! Hopefully Toto and Sharry caught up.

Well it was a great ride, seems to be the end of my luck - I was going to work this morning and got collected by a car. The strange thing was there was no lanesplitting involved, I was being the picture perfect rider and managed to get absolutely collected by a guy just plain not looking. He admitted fault straight away after a few stern words.

My bike has looked better but considering how intense the impact was, it could have been worse.. he snapped the right footpeg off and crushed my leg into my bike, (thank GOD for Givi Crash cage, saved my engine 100%). I somehow by the grace of gods managed to stay on and stop to a stand still, not sure how I pulled that one off, but yeah - looks like my Hornet is out of action for a bit until insurance is sorted out :( :(

gijoe1313
16th February 2010, 09:59
:gob: Crikey, glad to hear you are okay there zeo! Impacts between large bits of metal and squishy human bits don't usually work out too well! Ahh poops, your bike was a minters one as well ... never mind, you are safe and thats what counts.

Hmmm thinking back to yesterday, I daresay your mum and girlfriend must have had a premonition of some sort! So, how you getting to work?

zeocen
16th February 2010, 10:23
I am home now, sore bits are getting sorer, the bike is still somewhat rideable even with the peg snapped clean off, I was resting my foot on the rear set. I keep finding more scratches and stuff from the impact :(
I will say the policeman was very good and after I had calmed down the at-fault driver was also very helpful and has already admitted fault to his insurance company. He did seem genuinly remourseful so I couldn't stay angry for too long, I was just upset that my best mechanical friend is now a bit scraped up :(

I can vouch for the Givi Crash Cage though, wow, still can't believe how much damage it stopped (and inflicted on the car). Really top grade stuff, my engine is fine.

It's more my fiance that's the worry wart.
Just took it into Botany Honda, mechanic gave me some donor parts from his VTR to put onto my bike, so it's still rideable while they tally up the damage.. it is actually extremely minor for how much force went into shunting me. So I am very lucky, my best bike isn't a write off, not even close. Just a couple of scrapes and bruises (mostly to the givi cage)!

I turn up to find Sharry, Gremlin and Spork and Choco all sitting there with no ice cream, So I had to show them the Bullas Balls Superette where we buy the crazy fancy asian ice cream. A minute later Carlos turned up, and we all chatted away while munching on the frozen sugar water :) Two pumpkins - Choco and Gremlin left before the ride even started, one talking something about spending time with a female of the human kind and the one dribbling something about work in a typical Gremlin tradition. This left Spork, Sharry, Carlos and Moa to swarm around. In a true democracy decision tradition, we took the decision to go west. Inded up at Piha enjoying the gorgeous sunset. Then turned around and went to the Hell of west Auckland where we consumed the yummy pizzas that the boy racer at the counter had on offer. Nice and quiet night, nice to catch up. :)

Yes, it is an urban legend that grows from the Charley Brown comics, called Peanuts (The Great Pumpkin)

But to be fair, zeocen leaves well before midnight, so him turning into a pumpkin shouldn't really happen! :msn-wink: I also use the other nickname : Pumpkinator "I might be back"
