Think of it as a child if you teach her/him to do things at a early age then it makes it easyer in the furture. eg wheelie, stoppies and general madness.

Well....where to start. I'm the fella that dropped my ZX9R on the infamous 'disco corner' (i think its known as???) about 6 weeks ago! Needless to say I was pissed! I came back to one ride once i had fixed my wheels ...the first one in the dark actually, and I was feeling fairly average about the whole 'leaning to the right' thing.
Since then, my mate (who will be coming along this week) has bought a 05 ZX10R and we have been out a few times. I believe I'm getting better :-). I have taken a while to gain my confidence back in my tires since the front tire having gone hard, dumped me into a fence (I now have a new set of diablos fitted). This has exasperated a theory of mine even more. Is it just me or do most right handers find it a little odd turning right as opposed to left? It just doesn't feel as natural to me. Anyway...I still love riding my beautiful machine and I look forward to another fine Thursday night ride this week. I have attached a photo of during and after the repair. See you all on Thursday.
PS thanks to all those who stopped to help that night I had my off...it was appreciated.

Most people do favour turning a certain direction, and it has normally been left, both my left and right handers for some reason, could be bike weight (Muffler on the left) or the actual camber (Slope on road) is usually better turning left (Sloping down to left)
So it does require more counter sterring to turn right to over come the camber of road.
But congrads on getting the bike back together and bring a mate along to share the fun. Everyones crashes at somestage, its unfortunatly the odds out there. (Either theirs or someone elses)

The whole "the can is making it harder to turn" thing is bollox, unless it weighs like 20-30kg it would not make any diference which side it is.
Fine motor skills are learned - thats why when your born you cant pick small things up etc. Its simply down to you being more tense in your body through right handers....
I have a similar 'condition' and relaxing really helps boost confidence on right handers for me.

yeh, right handers feel less comfortable for me to.
i think this has somethign to do with being goofy or natural [skateboarding, snowboarding .. etc] these are just my opinion/thought.
when turning left, your right leg is in control [wieghting outside peg..etc] and if you hanging off bike, its your right leg hooked on the seat.
turn right, its the other way round. and your gumby left leg is in control and makes it all feel un-orthadoxed.

Dude, you really need to make up your mind and stop lying.
Cos on here you say you have my peg down, but to my face when you want to ride my 6r you say you'd never do something like that.
And peg down on someone elses bike in the wet during traffic is bloody danergous, espially when you have no insurance.
You like to insault other people, but never listen to others.

Because i dont think he would on someone else bike. I lent my bike to mark for an afternoon and it came back in a better state that when he picked it up.
You on the other hand dropped yours within 5 minutes of owning it...
Anyways, I dont know why people go on about getting a peg down. It happens by accident so easily... Get knee down instead :D

i listen, and btw you can get peg down in the wet on your bike, if you know how to ride, if there was any risk of crashing it i wouldn't have pushed it that hard, i know my limits,
and this is coming from the person who was drunk on new years and lowsided it into a drain?
mr responsible
and thats right you ddnt listen when everybody said...ben get a lowering kit for your bike or you will drop it " no i won't it's not worth the money" ...yet you own a $17,000 2007 zx6r?
2 days later you dropped it backing out of the garage,
and you say u won't carry pillions and you try not to stop because your feet are on tippy toes, and yet you still won't get the lowering kit.
i and many others have offered to teach you how to ride but you are too stubborn to listen.
that offer is still valid because i don't want to see you get hurt your a god guy don't get me wrong, but your riding is poor, and even i could teach you some things, don't make the same mistakes i did by not listening to others, theres alot of information and peoples time on offer if you will just read it and accept it.
if your angry after reading this read it again until you get it.

I agree. I believe it is to do with what is natural for 'right handers' whether it's to do with your balance at your feet in the corner, or control of the upper or lower hand while completing a corner. I really don't think the bikes can has any impact on how a bike handles in a lean...well at least not on a kwakka ;-)

Once again, your posting up threads which you have no idea on.
Your saying I was drunk and riding on new years.
That is aload of bull and how dare you accuse me of it when you weren't even there. So start sorting your facts out before you post up here again.
And for your information, the lowering kit aswell as many other things have already been ordered. and the "everyone" wasn't actually everyone.
And offer of help and guidance have been offered and taken from people who's opinons I hold in high regard for. You are not one of them for your inability to politly explain things, not be condensending, and have a proven record of knowing what your talking about.
So whos bike was it that your wrote off into the back of a van showing off for a camera ?
Who also wanted to show off again trying to beat a 600 and crashed then too ?
So Mark, when you actually have my respect I'd listen to you. But till then, keep this topic about Thursday night and be incourgaing and helpfull instead of rubbishing everyones ideas and riding abilitys

Come along to the wed night practises, and see who has skills and can manage their bikes.
I did an exercise tonight which took quite a few goes. But hey I can now control my bike in a straight line with someone walking next to me. And the straight line was on a firehose 4 inches wide.

ive only ever crashed when i'm pushing well beyond my limits, my limits can be pretty high and i can feel comfortable with that but once i push beyond them trying to get faster too quick, then i crash.

Can't give you a straight answer there. You may well be onto something with that. I have always put it down to 3 things. But hey, I could be wrong.
1) You can look further through a right hander and across the centre line. As the bike tends to go where you look that can make you slice too close to the centre line and you feel the need to correct mid corner.
2) Right handers are more likely to be off cambered (as is the case with Disco corner) the crown in the road thus means you are actually closer to the road when you are leaning and the tyres are at an unnatural angle to the road wanting to slide down hill.
3) I use my inside hand for all steering inputs deliberately and just relax my outside hand and arm. I suspect that many do this subconsciously anyway as they are pushing the right bar to countersteer into and around the corner. As the throttle is on your right, you tend to loose a bit of dexterity and thus throttle control on a right hander.
You may well have a point with your leg, however many whom stay planted on their seats have a problem with right handers too.
My experience is that you tend to grow out of it.

Hmmm. right hand corners.
I remember reading a quote from a legendary GP racer (Freddie Spencer?) that said mastering right hand corners was the difference between finishing somewhere in the pack, or becoming a race winner.
Somehow this information stuck in my head, so back in my ill-spent youth I took every opportunity to attack every RH corner like a fucking idiot, just so I could rate myself as the best rider NEVER to race competitively on a racetrack. What a dick, eh.
Now I've paid for the sins of my wicked past, I'm so much wiser and would never think of outbraking my friends into right hand corners - only to look in my rear view mirror at the hapless sight of Darren spearing off into an embankment on the Scenic Drive on his then new GSX550. Ouch!
My advice? Only take left hand corners - you'll always be able to find your way home

Ok folks,
The ride is on for tonight!
Put something warm on and come out for a night ride. The weather has been shite for the last 2 weeks and now we have been given a dry, wind-free night. So in theory the roads should be well swept of any oil, mud, crap in general.
Here's a couple of good reasons to come along to the ATNR:
Come and meet Skidmark and Phenoix, famous for the 'War of the Words', exclusively on the ATNR channel..........
Or come and have a chat with us up at BAR AFRICA, where there's often a free platter of food floating around.
Stay for the after-ride burnouts and wheelies.......
See you lot up at Shell Westgate @ 6.30pm........... Dont forget your clear visors, it gets dark after 6.30pm! :ride:

In general you should be ok with your leather for now but I would invest in a pair of long-johns (thermalwear) to wear underneth. Oxford sell a good range in most bike shops http://www.oxprod.com/index.php?pg=3&action=dept&id=77&pid=0&p= and keep wearing leather, cause your skin will thankyou for it! Leather can be quite cosy (good insulator) as long as you are warm to start with, if you are feeling cold before you head off then you will strike problems.

Today I sat outside and dug out the stones and tar it was soo bad...after alot of degreaser it is looking very nice.

Due to the declining amount of patrons attending in the winter months, I am reconsidering if it is worth having the ATNR on a weekly basis. If the number drops below 15 on a given night I will have no choice to reduce the frequency to fortnightly or even monthly.
However, if people could voice their opinion (take into consideration the rules on this thread)
Would starting the ride earlier make a difference, lets say meet up at 5.30 leave at 6pm just before it gets dark? We could start 1 hour earlier during the dark months (daylight savings) and then putting it back to 7pm during the summer?
I did a poll on this over a year ago and everyone was still happy at leaving the normal 7pm. Would this change make you get off ya arse and come out for a ride?

If you drop the time back an hour there will be two problems
1. Sunstrike
2. people wont have time to get there from work
If anything, just make it fortnightly

Over winter a small group of us turned up religiously despite the weather usually. We stuck to the 7pm departure and on occasion just rode straight to the pub. I personally think that the ride should remain as is: 7pm, Thursday night every week. If only two people turn up, so be it. I don't think it will fall apart if you guys (Dawn and Steve) aren't there every week.

Cheers for the ride folks. First one in ages. Nice place that Bar Africa. Pity one of our number was sent home by the management, underage apparently.
Had a wee moment on a right hander at the top of a hill. Narrowly avoided a head-on with Cage - them creeping over the centre line to turn right, me too close to the center line! I'd come over the blind right-hand crest (seen the lights from the car shining over the top so expecting them to pass by to the right but instead crested the hill to be blinded by headlights) and had an "oh shit" moment. Straightened up the bike, hard on the brakes and then quickly leaned back into the corner after clearing the car. Happened so fast - lets just say I wouldn't be writing this now if there'd been contact. Still shitting myself now a little.:baby:
Entirely my fault - must be more careful with my lines.:oi-grr:

Nah, ride never gets cancelled as such, it's just that sometimes only a couple or no people turn up and then it's up to the people who do turn up what they want to do. If it was shite weather we used to just go straight to the pub.
So, to reiterate, just leave it as is, Thursday night, meet 6.30pm, depart 7pm. If people turn up then the ride happens, if people don't turn up, the ride doesn't happen. Easy!

you just don't think do you?
shit, and people say my decision making is bad.
if i had no headlight i wouldn't have come on the ride
sort ur shit out man
this stuff is not funny it's not cool it's just damnright stupid your not impressing anybody with all the shit your doing
i do stupid stuff sometimes yes we all do but man shit your going to get killed if your not careful
i just hope it doesn't take a serious bin for you to learn or never have the chance too.
trust me on this one phil, it took me a long time to learn i wish i had just shut up and listened to the people older and wiser on this site,
they don't just talk a crock of shit, they do know thier shit so start taking it on board like i am,
i wish i had listened sooner
now i have a fucked ankle
and an arm i can never straighten again...
thats like 60 years i have to have that for.
shit man just listen from somebody whose been in the exact same situation
1.stop thinking your hot shit.
2.shut up.
3.listen.
4.learn.
hope you take some of that on board if you just think oh whatever well thats your decision but i suggest reading it as many times as you need to until you get it instead of an angry reply jumping on the back foot in the next 30 seconds, trying to justify something which will only make you look like a fool.

No not PMS. I'd say that's the frustration of experience and "been there" by the sound of it. Not having a go at Phil - I wasn't there so I'm not able to comment one way or the other...
Credit where it's due - Mark know something about this stuff... and he has the scars to prove it. Sounds like he's hit the grown up track... a QDOS to him for it.
Hey Phil - only you will know if Mark is on the money, and if in doubt ask others you trust - get an independant view of things. If Mark's right, he's trying to help you avoid the pain he's had. If not - don't turn this into a bitch session. Agree to disagree, and move on.
Handbags at 5 paces is so undignified.

He has a shitty headlight - he rode as fast as he was comfortable going - and as Tailend for last night's ride I didn't see dangerous behaviour and he just needs to sort the light out and all will be sweet again. :grouphug:

There's a difference between being able to ride in the dark and wet, and wanting to.
I felt, after much consideration, that staying home with the heater on, eating sweet and sour chicken and watching a film was a better way to go.
