Arse. The bike is ready to pick up at Mt Eden M/C, but my friendly rider-transporting buddy is too tied up to drop me off.
Nice night too, I was looking forward to it!! :buggerd:

Somewhat of a disaster for me.
Got to Shell all good, and spent a fair bit of time ogling the hardware, particularly the lovely Speed Four. Listened intently at the briefing, and set off towards the front, I figured that everyone would pass me anyway, so at least this way I can stick left and hopefully end up at the destination at a reasonable hour.
All well and good, got left for dust as expected, and had a few cornering issues, took one right-hander too wide, and ended up on the left shoulder where the tarmac turns to gravel, and got a little shaky, as I had a bad case of target-fixation going on. Straightened up OK, and thought that there is no point in even attempting to keep up, so I slowed down a little to a pace that I was more comfortable with, and started enjoying the roads.
Got passed by another group, and ended up all on my lonesome. Made a couple of turns, where the 'marshal' was standing, and saw no bikes in sight in front, or behind.
Fair enough I thought, i'm ahead of the tail party, but behind the barn-stormers. Ended up going on for quite a while with no action going on. I hadn't seen any corners that I was supposed to take, so I figured to just keep heading straight ahead. Eventually, I came to a T-intersection, with no 'marshal'.
Bugger. I'm lost. And in Wellsford.
Obviously missed a turn somewhere, and just kept going north. Stopped, texted Pancakes to let him know I wasn't face down in a ditch somewhere, and proceeded to travel the 80-odd Kays back to Auckland on SH1. Phenomenally boring. Got home at 9pm on the dot.
Next week, I intend to stay at the rear-party, always in view of the tail-end Charlie.
Cool meeting some of you guys, and cheers for showing me a few new cool roads. Look forward to joining you on the final one for the year next week.

Well that was a good way to lose my ATNR virginity... no crashes, :Police: involvement or scary moments and I got to discover some of the nifty back roads around dairy flat.
Was also good to put faces to names. Cheers :apint:

Sorry but you've just been claimed by the Infamous Kaukapakapa Turn Off. After turning right at the Church you go round a left hand bend then immediately need to make a right turn.
If you aren't used to this part it is easy to be concentrating on fanging it around the corner and totally miss the guy parked up on the corner.
Perhaps it should be included in the briefing that if you get to Kaukapakapa you've missed the turn.
Oh well sounds like you had a good night regardless
See you out there.

No worries, had a good ride anyway. Was cool finding some sweet new roads, even if it was slightly further than I expected.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to meet next week, I fly back to Welly on Friday morning, and don't return until Sunday.
Will be a definite starter for next year though.

So I will put it up here
Its that time of the year again and for the last ride of 2007!
What: A ride up north in the hills, finishing with dinner
When: Friday the 21st December
Where: Shell WESTGATE (end of the North Western Motorway)
Why: Last Ride of the Year!
Time: Meeting there from 6.30pm talk shit and kick tyres then depart @ 7pm
How: On ya bike, stupid!
Pace: Open to all as long as you dont ride snail pace As long as you can comfortably ride 100kph on the open road.
Last ride of the year for the ATNR. Yes it is on a Friday night, I've got a work do on the Thursday so Friday is better for me and hopefully some others(plus you can sleep in next day). Dinner will be up at Walkworth at the Bridgehouse Lodge (in the main street by the river). Same route taken a couple of weeks ago..........
Anyone who cannot come on the ride itself /not keen on riding is still very welcome to join us up there for a social get-together 8.30pm onwards (bring ya cage if ya want....)
The route will be discussed on the night (for obvious reasons ). For those concerned about distance/time the ride will last for approx 1 1/5hr and will be 150 - 200kms round trip. We start at Westgate, have dinner in Walkworth then head back home (sometimes in packs).
IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT ABOUT WEATHER/RIDING CONDITIONS
IT WILL BE POSTED UP ON THE THREAD 5.30PM ON THE DAY OF THE RIDE

Hey Matt
If you just want to do a bit of a ride give me a call on 0211 904 281 we could meet up in Albany - I'm really keen to take the new baby for a bit of a run, kinda test the waters before deciding whether to ride it to Wahi tomorrow or my ZX9.
First though I need to get it home and re-attached the sprocket cover that I had fixed today.

Weather looks crap this morning in Jaffaville but it is clearing and the forecast for today is:
Issued by MetService at 03:25am 21-Dec-2007
Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula
Cloud and isolated showers, clearing south of the Harbour Bridge by midday and fine spells developing.
Weather is supposed to be top-notch till Xmas day..........

Well I was surprised! I checked the tea leaves in the bottom of my cup, I consulted the stars....everything was pointing to an ATNR without cops but weird...one showed up...go figure!? He was very pleasant while taking my license I might add. At least he didn't try to preach to me about the evils of my ways, or how speed kills...just said bugger about that and went about his job...:Police: (he actually congratulated me on having a nice bike...probably thought he may as well be nice to me as we may meet again sometime...lol)

He said he had me at 175kph but only charged me at 165kph and no other charge like dangerous driving or anything....i was following him from Kaukapakapa turn off all the way to Dairy flats being a good boy sitting on 100kph and wasn't until I got to the nice sweepers going across the hill just before you go down into Dairy flats where we stopped did I decide to try out my New Ohlins rear suspension (installed that afternoon!) at higher speeds around some sweepers. I chopped down a cog or two and nailed it past what turns out to be an undercover cop in a silver hyundai...DOH!:blank:
I went around a couple of corners quite chuffed at how the bike was feeling and then slowed down again to 100kph and cruised into Dairy Flats. I noticed the pretty lights behind me just before where the main group had stopped, and pulled over.
I actually saved a joker on a brand spanking new ZX6R (Black one) from getting a ticket. The cop told me he was about to pull him over (as he actually overtook me and the cop along the straights before the hills) but then I turned up and was too good to be true....yehaww. I'm not worried skidmark...that person you know is an idiot and should have learn't the first three times he got disqualified....my license was clear of demerit points prior to this incident and I was not riding like an idiot, just a bit fast. The cop realized this and hence said that he was not going to charge me with dangerous or reckless driving. If i get hauled in front of a court I will go and apologize for riding too fast for that brief moment and leave it up to them to decide if I generally ride like you or if I generally ride responsibly!

its going to be both. I will keep it as a road bike but just do more track days. Its too straight to be put on the track full time. I know i will still ride on the road but I want to do/focus more on track days. Theres enough of them these days, you could almost do one every weekend if you wanted to.

It's the proverbial (literally), "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".
Nearly every week, I get myself somewhat psyched up into going on the ATNR, and intend to go, but there's always some reason why I don't/can't go. And then there's the ATNR aftermatch bullshit-swapping / grog-swilling function, so sometimes I intend to go to that instead, but that doesn't happen either, probably because (a) it seems a bit lame going to just that, and (b) I've never been much of a socialite, particularly of the bibulous kind.

I wonder if people should worry about cops en route this week... naaaa - that only happens to other people...
Find the long stretches of downhill road and nail it - fast as you can. The locals love it and only have the barest warning that you're coming... apart from the pattern of it happening same time, same day every week...
I have $10 that says someone else loses their license before 1/2/08. Anyone want to take me up on it?

There are techniques you can use to reduce your magnet's power..........for eg:
Opps, it must of fell off
Placement next to the exhaust can have a good melting effect
Find a Muddy Hole and do a couple of burnouts in it
Not saying I ever condone to any of this or have done it myself
