The ATNR (Auckland Thursday Night Ride) is a weekly social gathering starting with a 1-1/2hour Ride finishing with Dinner and Drinks.
What: A ride up some great backroads finishing with Dinner and Drinks:shifty:
When: Every Thursday night after work (WEATHER PERMITTING!):sunny:
Where: Shell WESTGATE (end of the North Western Motorway)
Why: To meet other KBers, kick tyres and talk about Motorbikes:ride:
Time: Meeting there from 6.30pm, ride brief and departure @ 7pm
How: On ya bike, silly!
Pace: Open to all as long as you can do 100kph:chase:
IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT ABOUT WEATHER/RIDING CONDITIONS IT WILL BE POSTED UP HERE 5PM ON THE DAY OF THE RIDE.
With Winter riding, it is best practise to use clear visors - please keep the tints/irridiums for the summer riding! We will be riding in the dark, dont ya know! Wrap up warm, as you are at the risk of getting fatigued faster by the cold. :cold:
Weekly ride after work finishing off with Dinner and Drinks at BAR AFRICA Cnr of William Pikering Dr and Omega Place, Albany. Anyone who cannot come/not keen on riding is still very welcome to join us at the pub for a social get-together 8.30pm onwards (bring ya cage if ya want..)......
The route will be discussed on the night for a good reason :Police:. The ATNR is known to the Police, so if you wish to do 140+ speeds, suggest you go and do it somewhere else.......For those concerned about distance/time the ride will last for approx 1hr - 1half and is around 70kms long. We start at Westgate and finish up at Albany. The route is changed from time to time depending on group numbers and road conditions.
* * * * *
Disclaimer: You participate on this ride at your own risk. I will not be held accountable for anyones actions, to/from and during the ride.. Anyone who is caught endangering others by their actions may be asked to leave the ride and refused entry to forthcoming rides!
I will not be responsible for people ending up at Wellsford due to not listening to instructions nor the pointer system failing.......... :nono:

Yeah the ATNR crowd from a couple of months ago got a tad 'annoyed' at slower (still going legal+) riders going along.
Devil
10th October 2013, 13:34
There's no problem with slower riders, as long as you can manage 100 in the 100 areas.
Wont be there, on call at the mo, but might be able to get along next week for once.

Y'all gonna think I'm just makin excuses now.
The battery was topped up with bottled spring water (where do you buy distilled water these days?), then charged overnight. Working fine.
This morning the freakin clutch cable snapped on the way to work!
Pleased to have been practicing clutchless shifting recently. Navigating traffic lights in order to get back home was a tad challenging though.
It's hard enough to find neutral on Tigger using the clutch, nigh impossible without.
Fear not, George to the rescue. He is booked tomorrow anyway, to replace that incessantly squealing rear brake disk.
That's 3 breakdowns (carbs, battery, clutch), should be fine now [touches head].

I've seen distilled water in supercheap before but I found some at Pak n Save when I was building my car. 10L bottle of it too for about $7. It said natural distilled water so I presumed it's all the same stuff.

Was not the clutch cable, that would have been too easy. The clutch plate has snapped, hopefully getting it welded this week. Otherwise would be weeks to get a new one.

Hey Jester9018. With this weather there are bound to be a few turn up (not me this time, the clutch plate is getting put in tomorrow).
Group rides are a lot of fun, as well as the talking rubbish at the pub afterwards.
This ride generally has reasonably quick riders. Although the legal limit isn't normally exceeded, there are not many corners they slow down for either. That said, it's nicely organised that no-one gets left behind at intersections etc. You will be made welcome!
Another ride I enjoy is the NASS ride on Wednesday nights. This short ride is aimed more at smaller bikes and/or learners (show me a rider who isn't learning!), then ends at a carpark to learn and practice riding skills. Then of course to the pub.

Yeah the racing version of what my bike was inspired from are lighter and lower cc rating for both dirt and race track. Even though the bike geometry is similar to those, mine is specifically design for road and tarmac race track riding only. Its to heavy (190kg) and to powerful to race actual supermoto events.
When it comes to a shower or two of rain on NZ roads however, the playing field is levelled so no matter what bike you are on, Good tyres, suspension setup and rider skill are the main factors for keeping upright on two wheels.

If I was going to race supermoto then yeah I would get a motocross bike and convert it to a supermoto. What I have is the best of both a road bike and supermoto bike. The supermoto geometry gives it an upright seating position, tall seat height and good leg room for my big frame. Yet is comfortable to ride long distances (19 litre fuel tank) and stacks of power at 115bhp. I love it for what it is. My next bike will probably be a KTM superduke. KTMs are just that good.

We generally run from Mobil Oteha Valley Rd about 7pm.
We go as fast as the slowest rider (try) and wait to regroup on the corners if we get stretched out a bit.
End up at the pub roughly same time as the 'Big Kids'
I started it for people new to riding or new to group riding and because I feel really bad holding up other more experienced on the corners riders.

BTW that trout in ya email avatar looked undersize I hope you released it :bleh:.
It wasn't in very good condition - Not quite double figures.- thought I should get it stuffed and get the taxidermist to fill it up a bit. Make it look like it would have before she had spawned.

Yer, was good and thanks for leading well, waiting for the group and sensibly speeds on the straights. It puts me off these rides when the lead guys run 30+ k over the speed limit on the straights making it hard for guys at the back to stay in the group without putting themselves into lose your licence speeds.
Well done I thought :Punk:

Hey so keen for ATNR Junior tonight? This is for slower/learner/250 type riders. Meet at Mobil Oteha Valley Rd. I started this so that as a learner rider I didn't keep the big kids up in the twisties. But still end up at the Sam pub at roughly the same time.
Making it a bit earlier tonight so we don't get caught out in the dark again.
Meet at 6.30, leave 6.45 at the latest.
If the traffic on the Northern is really bad we'll wait a tad longer.
Let me know if your keen though so I know whose coming.
Fuckit going to create a thread some day when I've got the time at a computer.

Well the new GoPro did really well for most of the ride. A few things to experiment with.
Unfortunately the gravel patch we encountered was probably a little too far away, and the resolution set too low for when I tried to zoom in.
I failed to attach the video anyway. It's in MP4 format, what else needs to be done in order to attach it?

Hey boys & girls, just heard via facebook that there is unmarked pea gravel on Old North Road and SH16. A couple of bikes binned in the weekend, and the council is out responding to the heads up I gave them today.
