Happy new year y'all!

Booked my tickets back home for my brother's wedding. Gonna be back for a couple weeks at the end of February so I'll try to pop along to a SASS night.

I'm gonna hire a Gladius 650 from Colemans for a few days, but might have to borrow a mate's 250 for SASS I'm thinking..

Hey y'all, I'll be back this month for a couple weeks so will swing by on the 23rd or the 1st of March.

Might see if I can convince a friend to let me borrow his bike for it but otherwise I'll just show up to the start and then the pub.

I'm hiring a bike on the 26th and 27th for a bit of a weekend bash. Looking forward to the sunny temps and grippy roads!

still not quite right after a wee tumble i took last week, but getting there.

oil spot, dropped by a truck running a red just before i went through the light. missed it with the front wheel, nailed it with the rear and bike skittered out from under me. landed awkwardly, massive sprain in my wrist. been out of action for the last few days, aiming to be back on the bike this weekend

and holy crap its a hoot. the cbr will be got running again, but working in the city i'm hemorrhaging cash like the proverbial in a 3lt legacy and parking, so i bought something new and reliable, warrantys etc, with the cbr to be a weekend hack / maybe a track bike.

Keep safe people. I quit work very early this arvo having been aware of the looming storm.
Ensconced at mine but its ugly and grim out there. Several big crashes enroute...one right on the corner of Spartan involving 4 cars and ambos.
Seems people are so focussed on getting to their next destinations they're forgetting common courtesy and doing dumb things. Nasty out there.

Well that was a different night.
We went to the carpark at Mitre 10 in Takanini but we didn't do bike exercises.
No instead, we were trying to figure out how to 'connect' everyone's headsets, well 3 headsets.
Then it was a great ride through Ardmore Quarry Road, practising smooth by using engine power rather than brakes.
Before getting back to Broncos and more trying to get the headsets to find each other.:brick:

Gone are the days when it was just you and the bike and the only thing going through your head were your own thoughts.

Now must go and charge up my headset....:innocent:

What type of headsets do you guys use? I am thinking of getting one of these (http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/products/1704-interphone_intercoms/12676-interphone_f5mc_rider_to_rider.aspx) bluetooth intercoms and would be good to get the one most others are using.

I'm using a sena, there are some cheap and nasty out there, just be sure to get one that will connect to other brands, some of the really expensive ones only connect to there brand, where as sena seems to connect to anything... if you know how to use it..

Interesting read. I do not appear to have any cracks anywhere (Hopefully). I do not have a temp gauge as it is oil cooled so can not check the temp. Hopefully that is not the issue. It happens while I had just got off the mway also, which i had a clean run on. Just strange only in 1st and 2nd. Was thinking maybe throttle sticking but that still would affect more gears (although have not really tried to accerlate quickly in 3rd while it is happening). I have had no stalling issues except for my own doing either.

After reading a few forums seems heating is a major issue for the hyosung (with a lot of other issues I will pretend do not exist)

One thing that I was reminded of on a recent ride is to look out for the below. Pushing the bike down means the bike is leaning more than is needed. It can lead to a loss of traction.

I'm guilty of doing that occasionally. I assume that what I normally do is better. Lean out towards the apex shoulder lowered and looking at the vanishing point? I don't usually bother with half a butt cheek off the seat.

I'm guilty of doing that occasionally. I assume that what I normally do is better. Lean out towards the apex shoulder lowered and looking at the vanishing point? I don't usually bother with half a butt cheek off the seat.

Great start to notice you do that. For the road at normal road speeds, I dont see the point in a full hang off. I find dropping the inside elbow useful. But for most road stuff, having your spine in line with the bike works.

I'll try the inside elbow next time I'm going out in the country. It'll be interesting to see what effect it has.

There will be no SASS tonight, just in case you thought that we might do some training in the rain. I think there is a chance of the rain becoming a bit excessive.;)

You will find that adventure riders do differ, and due to riding off/road / gravel, will push the bike down while staying on the high side (even on the road). I know I tend to do that, also makes a big difference in slow speed work, bike is too big to lean with it, need to get it on it's side beneath you :)

At any sort of speed offroad or on gravel I would agree. I do it in the dirt. And also started doing it for low speed on the 1250. But only walking pace stuff.

If you are open to training, get the best you can. Long term it saves on the body and the bikes.

I did a bronze course when I first started riding. I'm planning on booking a silver closer to my full license test. And gold afterwards. Not really sure who's good to go for single training.

If I had a sports bike I'd like to do a track day.

Phillip from Riderskills is the one I recommend. http://www.riderskills.co.nz/

Dont need a sports bike to do track days. Anything in decent condition will more than do for the novice sections.

Is the hyosung cup any good? Would be quite cheap to get into with some of the de registered gt250r floating around but I'd imagine that you would have to spend a bit to be competitive?

I wasn't planning on getting into it. I only have a bike and no way of getting a track bike to Hamptons down.

How much would something like that cost?

don't know if its the same, the Photo spokes has is either a bad habit, or inexperienced rider,
usually on a banked corner Some, (not All) ADV riders will pop out a leg, MX style, if the bikes that low, push out the rear wheel and steer with the throttle, thats not usually how we ride on the road,
although we do mix between counter lean and counter steer, we (ADV riders) are usually on bikes that are set up for riding over obstacles as high off the level ground as our axles,so were higher up in seat position, unlike a street bike, chopper or rolling couch,we have weight in different places on the bike, and usually don't have street tyres, so we mix it up between counter lean and counter balance.
the tough bit is picking the right method to use at the appropriate time, and to not just ride one style.... or at a speed that requires 1000% attention, skill and ability 100% of the ride....

From $150 to $200 as a rule. Not cheap but an awful lot of fun.

Leaning, pushing the bike down in my opinion on the road at any real speed is a bad habit. ADV bikes its even worse as the tyres dont have the ability to handle big lean angles. So if a turn comes up that is badly planned for and more lean angle is needed you could run out of angle to do it with. Habits are what can bring us down or keep us upright.

I feel fully qualified to talk about ADV bikes as i road one today.

Hi
I am based in Manurewa but work at Turners in Mt Wellington. So once your bike gets up here it may be easy for us to catch up some time.
I usually take my bike to work on Fridays so that I can get home before the weekend is over.

Sad story, but a reminder to us all... may there deaths not go to waist. I didn't know either of the people involved RIP. Im praying for the surviving family members in there loss.

Sounds like the bike overtaking the truck killed an innocent rider, but also the oncoming bike didn't leave (may not have left any) room for the 'what if'...

Hi keezz,
We meet at the z service station in Takanini (across from bunnings) on a Tuesday night, muster about 6:45, the around 7 head down to the carpark behind Carl's Jr., and do some basic skills, then it's a short hour ride after that, back towards manukau.
