From Lula's link:
Of 110,000 registered bikes in NZ, 11% are owned by women.
Of that 11%, 26% are riding bikes over 750cc.
Women riders make up only 17% of all Motorcycle crashes.
So let me extrapolate: Only 11% of bike riders are chicks yet they have 17% of the accidents.
There are therefore 97,900 blokes on bikes, 12,100 chicks and an indeterminate number of transvestites, 5th sex's etc.
lets divide that down to an even 1000 overall by % to make the numbers easier to fathom. 110,000/110=1000
97900/110=890 blokes
12100/110=110 chicks
If there were say 1000 bike accidents per year amongst the total, then 830 of them would be by guys and 170 by chicks.
830/890=0.93258 accidents per bloke rider
110/110=1 accident per chick rider
On that basis, chicks are 7.2% MORE likely to have an accident than blokes
The obvious point therefore is that blokes are better riders
Thanks for that raw data Lula..........................chuckle

Lets continue a bit:
Off and on for a fair while, many of the bikes I rode were registered to my wife. I rode them much more than she did. She NEVER ever bloody ever rode my bikes (vertically challenged). Even when I almost never rode her bike/s, I always rode at least 5x as many km's per year on my own bike/s.
If that is a trend in the community (chicks owning bikes ridden by men and men riding more km's per annum), then the 11% of chicks actually ride significantly fewer road miles than blokes and, on an accident per kilometre ridden statistical scale: chicks are WAY more likely to have an accident than blokes.
Any of you floosies need some lessons? I'm quite cheap ya know.

I'm old now.
Bones get brittle at my age and after my last little misshap; the doc informed be that, after inspecting the X-rays of my entire spine, my back was "fucked" (his word for a medical condition I suppose).
I still have my moments but far more cautious than I was a few years ago.
Sharron has been on at me ever since aboiut getting a car licence so this week I sat the theory and failed. Got 4 of the specific questions about cars wrong.
Destiny.
She is still going on though and it looks like a resit will be forthcomming.

After I went back to find Din and Caseye then returned to that intersection you'd all fucked off. Went up that road for a bit but it soon became a 50km suburb again and couldn't see anyone.
As I said at the BP, I don't know many interesting roads out that way, just too many suburbs and straight roads. I wasn't interested in a short ride to the same pub every week so I decided to go the other way and had a great ride finally popping out on the coast at Miranda and riding back up through Kawakawa and home.
Maybe next week but sorry, if its Paddy again, I'm out for Winter.
Korumba
10th July 2009, 09:51
Last night was a cock up, ride wise but I for one enjoy going to the Paddy.
I also would like to ride a longer distance if it is a nice night so I cant see why we could not venture on more of the roads east of the motorway (we did last week around the hunuas) and arrive at the pub a bit later say around 8.00.we can cover a lot of ground in an hour and a half.
I attend this ride for the company and a good night out, the ride to wherever we turn up is half the fun.

To be honest I really go on these rides to hear the boy banter, down the odd hot dog and listen to Jafars creepy laugh
Good to see Crazy Steve put one out there for the Hot Rodders - was a knobbly now a slick!
Oh and thanks Din my jacket still stinks of burning rubber

don't get me wrong on this; if you guys want to go to the same place every week and ride the same roads to get there, that's your prerogative.
I'm not team leader.
my take though is that i'm out for a thursday night bike ride not a short ride to the same pub every week.
If that's the gig i might as well drive the car.
Part of the problem with the north auckland lot is their predictability: the pigs know their routes and destinations and from what I've heard, lots have been pinged. We will end up the same.
If tradition is the thing, the original pub and a bloody good one at that, is the Clevedon. That said, I don't wanna go there every week either.
I might have ADD, dunno. But what I know is that I like change and riding new roads, different roads and going to new places.
It's nice to have good company but I'm not after a thursday night card night where we go to the same place and do the same thing.
I was overruled last night, some seemed to think the Kaiaua coast road is dangerous in winter. It isn't, I rode it last night. It wasn't any more dangerous than most of the roads you lot rode last night.
I'll ask before the rides now I guess. If it's always the Paddy, I might be seen occassionally but not very often. Frankly, I've never even been much of a drinker.

I think it just did!
O well at least we are out there riding and socialising, the rest of the country struggles to get out and ride this time of the year at night, except for the Norfhland crew out in their jandals, shorts, and T shirts, the Tauranga guys in their Tamiki Bros 48 seater heading to Drivers each week, and the two Auckland rides.
I dont think there is much else happing at night and if the weekend weather is crap I can go more than a week without riding so that again makes Thursday night attractive.
Hope to see you all next Thursday.

12th July 2009, 11:54
There is no reason that we have to go to paddy or anywhere else for that matter, I'm happy enough to end up @ the village or the Clevedon or the Kaiaua pub or @ McD's if it come to that, the beer @ the end is ok by me but not the bee all & end all. :apint:
III makes a valid point ,we are getting predictable in where we are going & when. We used to end up where ever we felt like & never the same pub twice in a row, this is what kept us safe from the unwanted attention that the western ride has suffered from. :Police:
I would like to see a return to the system we had ( yes we did have one ), This is where we have a short discussion before the ride & decide where we are going & who is leading & who is TEC. :argh:
We have not being doing this of late & the results are not good. We have lost riders & had to send others back to try & find them , often unsuccessfully, I suggest from this week on we adopt the old format & at the very least decide on where we are going & stick to it .:spanking:

Caseye, I vote nobody ever is appointed as lead. That's just too much like Ulysses to me. TEC for sure but a designated Lead is gonna wreck the whole thing.
I can see it now, Jafar rides in front wearing a bright orange jacket and nobody is allowed to pass him on pain of expulsion from "The Club": Crazy Steve, Korumba, Myself and Lula are expelled on the first night.............pretty soon you'd have "the Real SATNR" 'non club' posting rides each week and in this same thread.
After all, the thread was started by The Dover and that's where the essence of the ride and this thread lies.

I agree with the idea of a 'lead' rider in the respect of someone to count heads & make sure everyone knows where we are to go and or finish up.
As for a Ulysses style follow the leader ,ahh no

I'm gunna have to make my self understood a bit better aye?
I mean't, sigh, here we go again, We usually decide where we're going and then Jafar takes off, people do pass him anything like a Ulysses ride is just too much to handle, even for me.
Ide I'm not saying he has to be the leader or that no one passes him, just that for as long as I can remember thats the way it's been.
We decide where we're going usually Jaf takes point and off we go, the quicker guys an girls go and wait on the major inty's and we all catch up and when we get to where we're going we tell one an other bigger and bigger lies, Coffee does that to ya.

you may have noticed i have a problem with authority.
one of the reasons i ride in this bunch is the lack of it.
i also reckon authority=ego=issues=animosity=exclusivity
My 'vote' is there is no need to vote; leave the ride as it is, nobody is boss, nobody is in authority. For years we have happily got by with someone taking point on the night and that has often swapped by the minute, hour, week or month.
so people get lost occasionally, tell them the destination at the start and make some simple guidelines for us to follow every ride (or not).
guidelines can be as simple as "go your own way and see you at the .............."(insert pub, beach, dairy etc here) or they can be as complicated as as printed route map if anyone is anal enough to compile one.
ignore me and elect some kind of authority, boss or whatever you wish to call it; that's up to you.
I'll continue to post on Dovers' ride thread and will turn up occasionally to go in the same or a different direction.
I like riding with you lot, i like chatting but this is an informal ride night not a club. For me "ride night" suggests more riding than drinking.

Oh on the ride I think we should use a pointer system, so the rider following the lead rider, has to stop at the intersection, and be pointer to make sure no one gets lost, and waits till TEC come through be for moving on.

it's the Patamahoe pub: not a bad pub but pretty bloody boring if you go there every week on much the same roads.
I've pretty much decided to give it up and the support I've had from other past SATNR riders on pm's and blings convinces me that the weekly outing to the same pub and the same roads is turning people off.
Next time I decide to go on a thursday night ride, i'll post on this thread an alternative ride for those bored with the same every week or who don't live in pukekohe or waiuku.

We went an entirely different route from the previous few weeks & hit some roads that we have not been on for a while, sure there was only five of us, but the ones that DID come out on the ride had a night to remember, if not for the storm we rode into then for the entertainment provided by the establishment we visited. it wasn't the Village

cut the secret squirrel crap; it's tedious and smacks of exclusivity. if you want some of the other riders who have stopped coming to return, be open and can the 'club' attitude. the ride will probably have to become a ride again and not an excuse for a night at a pub.
`for me, stopping at a pub isn't even a priority, a cafe would be just as good.
the icing on the cake was the last ride for me; the one where the comments were that "we can't go east because the kaiaua road is covered in moss and is dangerous"
it was nonsense of course; i was disgusted. it signalled nothing less than a hijack
if the comments i've made subsequently have forced a change; great
however, you've pretty much lost me already
thursday night was started as a RIDE night; IMO the ride should take longer than the stop and the neither should ever become predictable.

OK,
you've seen my posts, i'm after a ride night not a drinking night. social activities do not demand alcohol and a cafe etc will do just as well
no secrets except the ride direction as we don't want the coppers watching and waiting as they seemed to do with the northern crew; ride routes will be discussed and suggested by pm and nailed down to a couple of ideas for discussion on the night
for the first ride the only 2 rules are these;
we don't go to patamahoe/waiuku and we don't stop at a pub.
those who wish to learn to ride better or set up bikes, post suggestions.
we can have a suspension setup night, a braking discussion, discuss the safest way to ride quick on the roads, how to avoid the fuzz or what to do when you get caught etc
we might even end up at the AMCC or have a guest rider of interest
its your ride; take control

Will we have to start saluting at any stage soon??? or maybe a secret hand shake will determine what ride you go on... this has been done to death... fuck I go for the ride and the company no one has ever said it must be the pady and the route is always changed.
And as for being “Disgusted and it being a Hijack” take a step back from the bike mister....
That night I understood the destination was what was being voted on, we could we have done the route you suggested and still have ended up where the “majority” wanted to go.
The last two weeks have been rides of over an hour on mixed routes and a lot of fun... its winter dark, cold, and sometimes wet and windy, like I said before at least we are out there doing it.
See you all Thursday.
idleidolidyll
28th July 2009, 08:38
nope; no secret handshake and no, it hasn't been done to death or i would not have received those pm's in support.
the fact is that too many past SATNR riders have been turned off and its easy to think that the ones who go are the only 'keen' riders without considering alternate reasons.
I'm essentially asking them why they don't come anymore and what they want to be different. I've certainly given my reasons and I'd like to hear others say their piece.
this ride thread does not belong to the few left, it belongs to ALL riders who want to ride south and the point is to bring them back even if that is on a different ride. If learners are intimidated, i'm on their side and they SHOULD have a ride of their own. if there are others like me who don't want to go to the pub every week and who want twice as much riding as they do stopping; WE should have the option
yes, the majority who were there the night of my last ride voted to go drinking at the paddy and that's the point; the riders turned off by the same ride, the same pub every week etc were not there to vote
so you've been on a couple of nice rides since then; why keep it secret? do you think that's gonna attract the riders who've given up on the SATNR?
if a significant # of riders signal that the status quo is not for them, that indicates there is need for a change or an alternative
your non sequiter doesn't work Korumba; just because i and others may not wish to go riding to a pub every week and spend twice as much time drinking as we do riding does NOT indicate that we are not interested in the social aspect of the SATNR; it just means we don't want to get in a rut and don't want to drink every thursday

If the previous riders wish to come along then they will , if they are not there to vote on the destination then too bad, the ride is there for those that are there on the day,not for anyone else. :2guns:
Seems more like your not getting what you want III & if thats the case then come along & put your case to the rest of us on the night, I don't care where we go so long as we do actually go. :jerry:
The rides will get longer & the numbers will probably rise anyway as the warmer weather starts to bring more out of hibernation. Those that have been doing this ride come & go, there is no 'çlub' as such & we DO vary the route taken every week.
I'm not in favour of organizing the ride in advance my text/personal messaging, to me that sounds like the club mentality that you claim to oppose.<_<
Noobie riders always have & always will be catered for on this & most other KB rides, thats how it is, however if III wants to have a 'fast' ride to somewhere that doesn't include them he is more than welcome to organize one & have it anytime he likes. :stupid:

Nope, but the suggestion that we elect a permanent leader last time I came certainly helped form the current opinions.
No jafar, the place to discuss this is NOT on the ride when bugger all people are there; it's on the thread where all can see beforehand and decide if they want to contribute and then go for a ride.
I'm more concerned with those we've lost or never had than with those few who do come.

I enjoy the SATNR. IMHO it's not as good as it used to be, but it's ten times better than the West AKLD one! I'm not a current SATNR diehard, I only go occasionally, but probably the last four or five rides that I've been on have lead to the same place, and by the sound of it a fair number of the ones that I've missed have ended at the same destination. i'd dearly love to go somewhere different. However, if everybody else want to go what has become 'the regular', then that's fine. I'm not trying to force anything. I'll either suck it up or go elsewhere. I'm for more riding, less drinking/talking BS. Too much more of this and I'll be willing to PAY $250 to go somewhere different! Maybe I'll chuck in a few hotdogs too!
As you were.

Essentially ANY South Auckland Thursday night rider can post ANY Thursday night ride on this thread.
It's Dover's thread and doesn't belong to any of the riders who like going to the Paddy OR to any like me who are bored with it.
Until Dover himself changes the rules or makes a statement; it belongs to all of us.
That said, it seems sense has prevailed and the ride is not going to the same place every week.

As Dover isn't an active member of KB any longer your theory that he change the rules is flawed.

The ride has been going to the VBK often for several reasons, one is the $250.00 draw, another is the FREE HOTDOGS put on by the owner for RIDERS on certain nights. It is clear that the VBK does appreciate the business we put through them.
We DO vary the route to get there & no we don't go there every week !! If you have been along on some of the nights we have been there thats good, last season we were going to the Clevedon or the Kaiaua, sometimes to the fish & chip shop sometimes somewhere different altogether. :2guns:
If you want to set up another ride then do so, there is nothing to stop you doing that, if you make it for a different night of the week (one you can actually get to would be a good idea) then you will get riders for that too. Go for it.:sunny:

Way cool, have fun Din, I am very jealous.
I will be there unless its pissing down when I go to leave home.
It is what I try to achieve brother ; to make you bit jealous cos I'm jealous that you got letter model R1 then me:love:, but anyway it is noting to be jealous of , becose taking 5 of my kids skiing it is so stressful, expensive, and no time to enjoy my self cos I was teaching my kids how to ski. On top of all that whether was shit and snow was terrible not like dry snow you get beck home. To top it all up as I got back to work in doing delivery to Whangarei yesterday I had little altercation with 100 year old lady ,which make complain to my boss on the phone because I shoal her how big is my middle finger and I got fired. So now I'm job less and just to calm my self from being jealous I got new double bubble screen for my R1 (that was before I got fired- 200$ from cikletreads) Ride on mite !!!

And to top all that I got muscle cramp in my calf today , so I went to see doctor and done blood test because that cramp had block blood circulation in my leg and that blood result came for me to have CT scan and CT scan show blood clotting in my leg so I will had to go to hospital to have operation before clotting brake off it is hard to walk, but if I'm still in one piece I be on ride.

Good ride Thursday indeed, a dozen bikes at the Autobahn and almost a full moon.
like others I struggled a bit with the light conditions; in a way it is better when it's fully dark. The moon looked bloody awesome though.
Damn near did a crazy steve just after sharper took off to catch the front riders. I took off behind him but just after that my radar dtector fell off it's mount and was hanging by the power cord. With $800+ at stake I took my hand off the left bar to grab it just before a corner; very loose and missed kissing the ditch by maybe a metre

Well fellow SATNR's tonights little jaunt turned out to be a lesson / reminder in good ol' camaraderie, friendship and not leaving a good man behind. We were sitting at the normal kick off point watching the rain tumble down and probably all of us thinking shall we really just go home, and then some one mentioned (probably me) Din's little encounter at the muddy last week, well we decided lets go back as they had reasonable fare and there was the off chance the Din could run into his new friend again for a Hot ride on the back of his bike.:eek5:
Due to the slightly inclement weather that was bearing down on us it was agreed that we take a slightly shorter route to this destination, all was well until we got across Pararata rd at the Hunua end and blow me down where is DIN??? 5 mins or so later, decison was made for the whole group to go a search and locate mission so off we toddled back towards Bombay. Get to the petrolem transfer station at the round about and here's DIN trying to crash start the R1, lesson to be learned here dont fiddle with the electrics before a ride. ...lets blame the mitsubushi parts in it aye DIN. Now DIN's thinking ah, I will just ring my wife she can wake up all the kids, pull the trailer out in from the back yard, hook it up to the 4WD and come and pick me and R1 up, Im sure you can all just picture her reaction to that, so instead here's me piped up and said I will take you back to get you trailer etc.. are you figuring where this is going??? If you know DIN, you know how big he is, picture this Me Pillioning DIN on the back of the Buell back to his place, oh if only we only had pictures, he must have towered a good couple of feet above me on the back of my bike and he was worried about snapping the rear sub frame off of it...it was a great laugh of a night...even if we didnt make it to our intended destination sorry Thani-b.

Well sharperXB, when I caught up to you at the Manukau lights, I couldn't help but have a quiet chuckle at the sight of DIN dwarfing the Buell and your good self.
It was a very quiet chuckle mind.
Mostly due to me still smarting from the black eye my bike gave me...
Now before y'all freak out, it was just a simple misunderstanding.
I wanted to pump up the tires at the BP prior to departure, while the bike decided that that was the appropriate time for a lie down...
Suffice to say the bike won.
Cracked fairing, broken wing mirror and a black eye later... (Trying to catch the bike on the way down using the wing mirror and an eye socket is now not a technique I recommend.)
Anyhoo, guess it was just one of those nights. DIN, hope you got the R1 back ok, and hope it doesn't take long to fix either! Here's to next week! :apint:

Just got in the door.
Holy crap, what was with the motorway?!
I hit stopped traffic well before Drury and crawled along. Got off at Drury thinking I'd be clever and go down Opaheke then Boundary Rd in 'kura but the cops had also closed off Boundary rd!
Bloody crawled through Kura and down Kelvin Rd until halfway home the back way.
Damn! Worst Jaffic I've seen for bloody ages.

Well what a cracker! Night was beautiful, no rain, warm and clear, ride was one out of the box. A new way to get there thanks Crazy for jumping over 6 others to take the leaders jersey, well lead and no hint of protest anywhere.
Cept of course ya lost ol puddy, again!
no matter the draw wasn't to be ours tonight, but the beer was cold and the food good.
8 riders tonight, welcome to Diggers out with us for his first night run on the SATNR.
Good to have you with us again Thani-B glad you changed your mind I'll bet.
"Nice bike" that girly!(raoew!) Sounds great, looks good, pity bout that headlight problem.
Looking forward to the free hot dogs and another "go" at that draw next week.

That is not to bad idea, I'm often mistaken for South African because of my ax cent and that is compliment, just look what they doing to us in RUGBY :bash:, but don't you ever call us Stupid Assholes Riders:mad::shutup::lol:
But just think about it, we can start this group and do weekend rides Sat or Sun and do maybe 22, Kawakawa and sometimes join the sumer even do Coro loop and we don't have to go always south , we can do SH 16, Ride to Puhoi, Mangawhai, Waipu..... as we have more time and light. We can turn that i to regular weekend ride and put it on calendar . Now if you call it Stay Alive Riders or South Auckland Riders we my get some members aye Caseye and sharperXB but if we call it South African or Stupid Assholes Riders , I will be only member of this group.

Now "South Auckland Riders" will have regular ride, which will be on calendar and it will be every Saturday and ride on calendar will be listed as SAR SAR" South Auckland Regular Saturday Auckland Ride" because we will ride not just south but anywhere NSEW and will be happening around 9.30 am at same place as SATNR and it will be something like this ride , but we will have more time to go for longer ride, not be tired like we are on this ride after work, it be more daylight . I think there is real need for ride like that, this is just start of it and all you are welcome to comment and help. I like Saturday ride because after it you can go home in the afternoon to family have BBQ and:apint::drinknsin and sleep in next day:rockon:
