We meet in fornt of the AutoBahn cafe in the Papakura Motorway BP complex, next off ramp past the Papakura one heading South. Mc Donalds is right beside it.
Meet there after 6pm and ride off at 7pm, ride for an hour an a half or so hten find a cosy little bar somewhere and tell lies for a bit, then head home.
No rpessure, no keeping up, ride your own ride is our moto, see you there this week then??
Which direction do you normally go in? I'd be keen to tag along for a bit if going south... I normally go back to the Tron on Thursdays. I currently have an online class 6.30-7.15 or 7.30, so my timing is a bit shite to meet you all.

well, it's dark at 7pm nowadays anyhow, so we coulod wait a bit till about 7.45, or we could go South via Tuakau Naike etc and meet up at maybe the Rangiriri or perhaps the Te Kauwhata Pub, wot say you, fellow SATNR's???

Super keen. However, tonight, I have work meetings that will run late. Next week, Anzac day is Wednesday, so I may flag entire week of work. I mean, work from home (already do that Friday, and if Wednesday is a holiday.......)
Thursday 3 May?
eldog
19th April 2018, 14:27
I am sure that's not a problem
All depends on you letting the RIC when & what time you will arrive etc.
Looks like a cool night. So Caseye you up for some seafood chowder?
Might be a shortish ride to a warm spot.
Unless the rain&wind decide to drop in then it will be a night by the fire.
caseye
19th April 2018, 16:31
Not tonight Josephine, sadly I'm preparing for an away trip and won't be about, ride cafe you lot, the eafood chowder recipe has changed, let me know what it's like.
eldog
19th April 2018, 21:25
No worries.
encountered 1-2k of fine gravel
it drizzled almost the whole of the ride
lots and lots of crap drivers, Even the car park nearly got run into twice. FFS
even had dumb people parked 90 degrees to driveways with headlights points up the road toward me.... slight panic when I realised i was travelling at warp factor 3 between 2 lines of on coming cars, and I was on the correct side of the road.
avoided possum on road
went to see where a mate had moved with his new missus,,, so no chowder test.
1 k from home thought, well no one has tried to cut me off yet....... how wrong I was.
1 car changed lane directly into my path, no indication, then I realised a rental car.... stayed back from the 2 cars in front of me. They had a lane each...... the right hand vehicle then cut off the other and moved to a off ramp on a third lane to the left..... indicators on modern vehicles are painted on. Obviously.
got out home and wondered how I survived, chillin apparently works
who knows what will happen next week?
and Caseye you was right, the headlight needs adjustment up. At the moment it points about 4-6m in front of the bike
eldog
25th April 2018, 19:56
well whats the weather like?
or is everyone still recovering from Anzac rides?
dont have to ride.:wait:

I'm out tonight Josephine. maybe, maybe not, next week will see how things go or not.
eldog yep chillin works, not worth getting you nickers in a twist over situations that are out of your control, just give them a wave :finger:it just makes things worse. just stay alert.:calm:
good you went out for a ride.:niceone:

Red Fox tavern
Seafood chowder in a nice warm environment
Weather and roads great. No where as cold as I thought
Just waiting for it to turn up.
well, turned up and here is my opinion, like it or not
ambiance nice, warm, not too loud, no dickheads present, one patron getting drunk.
staff patient, warm and friendly
drink ok
meat raffle, I took a ticket and drew the number, bugger not my one.
food
temp nice but could be warmer
bread toasted not bad
portion size big
amount of seafood approx 40%by volume
very creamy sauce, this is different from last time, IIRC
cost not bad change out of $20
4.5/10 last time was better 8/10 as you pointed out Caseye previously
would I go back?-yes
would I order the same? No, it wasn’t the same as first time, which was great.
ride took me back via Munsters fav road which now has a large section of unswept chipseal roadworks.
took that steep scenic route to miss the larger road slippage, which was a good choice as it will suffer soon with a large amount of roadworks being planned, lots of painted detailed instructions on most of this little road. No doubt it will be subdivided like the rest.
5 possums, 3 live on road. Half a dozen large boxes and bags along the whole journey, some quite big, obviously fallen or chucked off a truck. 1 mouse dead now. 2 tunnels. Not much other traffic apart from a near miss between 2 trucks and a motorcyclist, nothing to worry about apart from it didn’t look like truck approaching 2 other road users from a side road didn’t look like slowing down. Took std evasive action just in case before it got too serious.
a good ride, might do same again next week but to a different destination, further afield, will see.
bike performed well. So much different from the strange hunting at idle and jerky chain travel than before. Smooth and quiet.:niceone: Weather temp wasn’t as cold as expected so still wearing light shirt......
caseye
17th May 2018, 16:02
Told ya they'd changed the Seafood Chowder recipe! No rissen, cloth ears.
Pity, caquse the first time it was at least a 9 outa ten!
Wot you dun to yer Bandy boyo, they love cold weather!
Chain needs to be adjusted, so no slip and clutching, as for the surging, it's a low down thing with Bandy's. It can be fixed, by a mech with some brains.
You coming?

Bike sorted, now only user to get off arse.
Food Yep changed, next time I am going past I may call in and ask, or I may not. Certainly was nice the first time.
Cancer - so young bugger.
Typical not raining now, but I have a little project I am working on, well putting off really, I am in the mood so I will keep working on that instead.
A mates working diary(s) who passed away from cancer last year. I have taken over some of his job.

31st May 2018, 22:22
thanks Leathel
hopefully you are fitting some heated grips....
Anyway took the standard route to Bombay,
Overtaken on a blind corner by a Ute over the yellow line in the opposite lane, wondered if 95 kph is fast enough or how long before someone appeared coming the other way.
survived that and had one of the better recent rides.
sort of a cross between Leathels' and Bass's navigation.
ie I had no idea where I was going, but no matter, lots of new testing roads, finding the ends of roads and the beginning of several roads that I have travelled before.
Not too many oncoming cars so High beam had lots of use (well its better than the std candle)
If you remember stopping for the Leathels deflating tyre then you should know approx 5k further on there has been a slip and gravel has replaced the road. Some small signs but could be interesting if travelling at limit.
Decending down into the Waikato, looked amazing with the tops of the trees peeping through the dense fog, highlighted by the glowing moon.
Once passed below the fog level, very little vision........so slow going there.
Some of the more interesting curves have been replaced by gentle curves
SH1 is still under repair, with some areas being sealed, but very slow travelling 5kph or less
I have to wonder what my speedo is reading
Watch out for loose stones in the lane, tyre spat out a few.
approx 120 k
temperature cool-but not cold, well worth the effort.

Ewe did, wash yer mouth out wiv soap, you naughty, naughty boy! decided to go south and bugger the Tagarama Auckland tag, got as far as Mercer, turned around and went for the tag at the lower Huia Dam in Titirangi, it was cold, but if we'd kept going south we were going to end up like Popsicles! Never been so cold on a bike this far north.

Last nights run was the same as the other week.
apart from no idiots on my side of road, no small trucks with hi beam only(well 1x), no fog, no rain.
just a few possums playing dead on the road and 1 who tried to take on the bike, his head clipped the underside of my boot:doctor:it was a big one in the middle of the road.
Otherwise it saw a general improvement in this riders ability.
for those old enough to remember I just past a mark 2 zephyr with a rather large V8.....:baby:
it wasn’t cold either for those couch surfers out there.......either.
several sets of “road works” and lane changing signs etc but nothing happening.
bike handled the gravel much better than expected.
watch out on those rural roads for farmers vehicles which leave vast tracts of mud for us to slide on, esp corners.
and a few areas of road metal that have washed across the road during the recent rain.
couple of places have large depressions, and it was interesting watching the front wheel suspension extend 3-4 inches suddenly while lying over midcorner.
130 ks total togged up, so didn’t feel the cold.

I had even removed the screen to see how it went with the bigger fork deflectors I fitted Saturday as I might run with no or a very low screen...tried a bigger alloy screen Sunday too, was good but I was after a bit more breeze... getting close to cutting a permanent one :)

This might sound silly but you could stick on some ribbons to see the air flow etc.:weird:
i liked the cowling you put on, looks good.:niceone:
i tried various positions of the adjustable screen last night and have settled for 2 stops before the maximum deflection.
i would like to decrease the helmet wind noise in my ears further though.
its like the wind is getting into the helmet. I might add padding where the speakers would normally fit as a trial.
i am off for a while, back next week

Last night was a repeat and rinse of the previous couple of weeks.
It wasn't cold or chilly, quite still but low light levels.
Lot less vehicles as well.:niceone:
Will probably just do it again next week without starting at the usual place.
If weather is same will try and continue down south further, as I am getting used to the country riding.

Wore me togs but should have worn more
Crystal clear night but dark
Same run as previous weeks.
Quite enjoying the variety.
Some improvements noticed
Watch out for possums and loose stones on rural roads on corners.
Till next week.
Back to the chaos
Fire trucks really do wallow in corners. Must have been to avoid me.

Last nights job was to dig out the last old footing that well was concreted in and shift a pile of timber to where it will be cut. Relaxing times....not! (picked up 500 pavers in the weekend too)

You should have organised a working bee....
You gunna put up a retractable sun shade?
I am asking, as I have been thinking of putting one up and attaching it under the eaves.
A mate of mine took 6+ months to build his, it should have taken 3 weeks but his better half kept changing her mind :sweatdrop
BTW not riding tonight, going to try out the speed-KM check thing in the car

Maybe you should also check the petrol gauge - thats what kids do when they borrow something.

Just back from 2 months touring western USA. Nothing went according to plan but sometimes that adds to the fun.
Thought about you on top of the hill again with a small drop of envy, but then we spent a day at the air racing in Reno, so I guess we are all square.
Discovered that when you go rough on a big bike, you can get in the shit really easily and that it's amazing what you and the bike can do when you think your life might depend on it.
Found that Wyoming is a lot like central Australia - nobody much lives there. More people in the city of St Louis than in Wyoming. Crossed the Great Divide Basin twice and never saw another soul all day on the first crossing.
etc
etc
etc
Will be in Orks again before Xmas - might have to try and make the visit cover a Thursday evening.
You would just love the Air and Space Museum and the boneyard in Tucson

there was 2 others, one quite a bit slower but the instructor did time with him while we went ahead to trial the theory, then next section sent him on with no pressure to trial what he had been instructed and he followed us two with each taking some time in the lead. The perfect scenario would be all at the same pace and we should have been on paper as the slow rider was on his third course.....just not doing a lot back roads so not enough practice in them (commutes) but we all had mics so could here what was being said and all had plenty of one on one time, Would have been nice to have more dry roads but wet road training in important too :)

Nothing like a small square block building for a winscreen definitely does the trick when it comes to wet weather riding, please it all works so well mate.
Picked up the Dorkland Tag on Saturday and headed off to put it somewhere else. Good days riding, bit windy ( the wife feels it, I don't) and covered some ground, thats for sure.
It seems there was only rain on this side of the Bombays yesterday, I didn't go on the course, I went to Miranda instead, and I caged it, only rain was when I got back over the hill.

it was nice to talk to fellow rides (father and son team) coming back from a tour of the country north of Akl
They looked well kitted out and more than able to handle what ever weather/conditions they would meet.
they where having a ball
We went out for a small pootle, ended up on Munsters favourite road - lots of road works (loose gravel) have been fixed and a few places gravel has washed out onto the road from the rain.
Nevertheless, we only had a tiny splatter of rain and it was mostly warm (well I was)
Stopped for a milkshake and chips at the Tuakau restaurant. - Which was quiet.
They seemed geared up for lots of people (The Muddy was very full so we gave it a miss) and rode on.
For those couch surfers out there, you missed quite a nice ride - not quite as good weather as last week but much better than in the morning.
Looks like the weather is going to be shitty for the next week, so will be cleaning the bike on Saturday.
Anyway :drinkup:till next year.
Thanks Leathel for being the ride guide, this year.:niceone: (I was at the front for a small section - OMG)

My tyres have resumed their original curved shape, rather than the flat and wedge of last couple of weeks.
But the join at the center has become much more visible
Looks like a short wee pootle up the road and back tonight before the service begins.:doctor:
Oldguy save your gas for next week. They are looking for YOU in Takanini. IYKWIM. $$$$$$
And here I was thinking there isnt much to look at.... nek minute OMG. Worth the wait.:eek5:
It was hot.
Avoid Fitzgerald road. 3 sets of red lights, waited almost 5minutes at 2 of them, stones across road etc
1 did have a count down timer which was nice. I would like to see this more on other red light road works :niceone:
Also watch out Clevedon to Franklin areas, the usual stone chip bandits are out there re-chipping corners randomly, no signs or sweeping up loose stuff.
Some of them are mid corner. Intersections have built up piles of chips and stones in the middle - be observant don't cut the corner
Tar bleed is bad again.
a few places where selling flowers on the side of the road, like WTF? cars darting across road, cutting others off to get some. Almost became a cropper.
Had some boy racer on my 6, couldn't see the hood in my mirrors, I didn't want to be a ornament on the bonnet, so took an opportunity to get ahead. Followed like a demented nut case weaving in and out of traffic - him not me. Finally he turned off. Nutter.
otherwise it was a good ride.

Yep a pleasure to be out with the hardcore crew, enjoyed the ride a lot! The Nonda goes extremely well and will have no trouble keeping up with most other Sickles.
Picked up me brand new rear carrier form the lads at Botany today, Shinnnnnney it is!
Now to fashion a lightweight frame to sit the soft Givi luggage against, keeping the right side off the Zorst and out of the rear tires way on the left.
No need for extra spots, those LED headlights are amazing, will still look at standard running/side spots maybe.

Need to sell my old DR to fund rims & tires.....and maybe a gel pad :D

Sadly me ol mate, you got to get that shoulder looked at, it could go on for ages, otherwise.
Still out an about, but not riding in the wet with Dorklands susal suspects out there too, just too bloody risky.
