Rocketgal68, we usually ride out East, Hunua, Kaiaua, Mercer places like that, we have a number of smaller bikes who ride often these days, feel free to come along and sit at the back if thats what suits you, no pressure.

We decide on the night.
Thats the thing... the reason I don't go, is because as a learner I have my limitations... one day I guess!!! Thanks :)

Ah I can imagine, I wouldn't like it much, dark, groups of riders, managed 800km, and longest ride 50km without stopping... I don't do much over 85km, and I can't think of another excuse, I can ride as far as I am concerned, but don't have the skills to ride with others. lol Cages still give me the shits, when they drive too close... ;) keep me posted tho via text where your going, if you don't mind, or someone.

Good to know your limitations, mark of an upcomming rider. If you don't like the dark (lol) or groups (lol some more) or doing more than 50 km (rotflol - sorry) in one ride, or riding with cages, or doing more than 85 km (lol wheelies are incidently best picked up at that speed) no but seriously I suggest you work on those things before doing any group rides.
Go riding with Thani and build your confidence first. I will be starting some learner friendly rides in a few weeks you can come to.
Ps: I wuld'nt call Digit a learner, if he didn't have a POS Ho_Bag he'd be giving me the learn...

Nice advice...I agree group rides sometimes can be harder to ride with than one-or-two others...unless the one-or-two others are silly boys who ride too fast

Rocketgal68, you take all the time you need, as Raj said, what you've done and said so far indicates someone who will become a competent rider given time.
That said, our rides are going to e conducted mostly in daylight hours soon, our numbers are usually 3- 8 and no one who goes along is going to expect you to do anything but "ride your own ride".
As I usually end up as TEC ( tail end charlie), yeah, yeah .I know WHEN I MAKE IT, you'd be in front of me at the back and I'd onl;y be going as quickly as you at a safe distance back, I've never worried about how fast or slow someone is, just that they get their lines etc right and improve.
So feel free to come say hi anytime, you will be welcome and you will be looked after.

'False sense of security' if you can't do over 85 km or ride more than 50 km at a stretch not 'confidence'. There is a thin but subtle line. I did not mean to sound condescending, merely caring

I can certainly ride more than 50km, that is just as far as we have gone so far in one stint, 150km has been the actual longest with a stop at the yamaha shop lol, I do have a riding partner, who is well more experienced than me. 85km is comfy for me, my bike is new, so I am also running it in.
Your not being condescending at all... I take all advice and run with it or ignore it... ;)

On another topic:
I fitted a new rear tyre to the Beemer after that godawful ride last Thurs. Vive le difference! The rear Shinko was well stuffed and was probably half the reason I slid so many times (other reasons; 50 year old eyes, brain fade etc).
Hope to be there tonight maybe on Mrs Idles Buell, the Tyres need running in and she wants the chicken strips rubbed off.

Pleased to hear you got home safe, Ask the real die hards of the last year or so, we've all ridden in some bloody atrocious weather these last two winters, I've just got to the point where if it's going to be wet I'm not, if I don't have too.
Still enjoy meeting new riders and being with the crew, just not so damn stuborn to ride in the rain if I dont have to anymore.
ACC Levy ride to Welly, rain, hail, snow or Political arseholes I'll be there all the bloody way, you?
Hoping it isn't raining next week and that you'll be along too, so we can be introduced proper like.

Haha so where the hell were you then? Unless Im going batty, it was only III and Sharper XB that turned up to meet me at the autobahn. We then continued to wait.. and wait.. and then took off to the autobahn at Bombay to meet Rocketgal. After a bit of a chat we headed to Muddy Waters. Apart from a bit of surface water, a few slippery corners and some wet nuts (hehe) it wasnt too bad. Had to leave when the karaoke (sp?) started though.

I wont be going to Welly. Doubt Id get the leave, and I get back from a week in chch the day before so I'll probably be damn tired (and poor). I might ride some of the trip though, depending on the departure times. Maybe just to Ham and then I'll head back.

Looking forward to catching up with all the OLD (guy) faces next week now that the daylight hours are upon us and it's stopped raining.

I was never worried even though I knew there was a good chance it would fall over: that was always likely to happen when Thani stopped but unlikely while moving (hell, i can't even touch flat footed both sides and i'm at least 25cm taller).
Anyway, I've never been precious about my bikes, it's a chook chaser and with those wide bars and crash knobs, it's almost impossible to hurt it with just a fall.
So apart from the mirror which had vibrated itself apart and needed replacing anyway; there's not another mark on the bike at all.

I'm sure Thani-B won't be influenced by any of us opinionated Sods on here..and I don't need to "Rev the Shit" out of it to get to my Fun level's up there. I know full well were my limit is and I dont often cross it, and I dont really see the point in having an excess abundance of power when there is the potential there to exceed my riding capabilities. And by the way at Least I dont need to drop 3 gears to roll the power on. Torque is my friend or fiend(dependent on how you look at it), its knowing how to use it. :woohoo:

There is always one rule of thumb when you can control your bike you obviously need MOAR POWER... revving a machine imo is funner than not needing to. I mean bikes with bucket loads of torque and no horsepower are imo uselss, its so quick to 5000 rpm and just as your starting to enjoy it it runs out of juice, I personally much prefer the build up effect and a screaming top end knowing that not much else on this planet gets to these levels of acceleration faster!!
I'm not talking about crossing limits here. When someone sees me on one wheel etc it might look like I am a reckless hoon, nevertheless I am perfectly at ease on the rear wheel so depends on rider to rider. LOL my thou has more roll on grunt at 100kmps in 6th than my R6 had in top band on 3rd (its sweet spot) so no lack of torque there lol. WHo cares theyre just fun machines and being a SQUID is what it's all about :)

Ive had my fair share of inline4 litre bikes never been brand specific. its has always been what took my fancy at the time, the Buell is the third V twin Ive owned, don't need 190 hp to have fun. It all comes down to what you want from a bike, if what you want 190hp and 12000 rpm or what ever they rev out too, then a Vtwin wont suit you, but they do suit others like me.

funny thing, a guy came in next door to our workshop, yesterday he was riding an MV Brutal, nothing strange in that you say, but it was the safety gear or lack of it just shorts jacket track shoes, then I see the same guy go passed again but on an RC8 could till by the safety gear haha, so he would have had to have come from Triple X moto, I think they may have to sell riding gear and be encouraged to wear them haha.

My 2¢ (and I ain't knocking the slow ride idea) but I think right now, after the media have flooded the public with positive footage of lots & lots of bikes, we simply need to maintain visibility (no pun intended). So even if we did a blat on the motorway this Thursday night at regular speed, any group of a few or more bikes is going to be noticed (especially if there's a few protest messages in view) and will maintain in the public's mind that bikers are not happy with Nick Smith, John Key, National, ACT, ACC etc etc etc.

So is that what is happening, heading over to the ATNR pub? For me its a bit pointless riding from the city after work to meet you guys out south and then having to ride back north again (and then far south at the end of the night), so I think I'll just meet you there. What time?

Yay! Another 250 to keep me company now that Thani's graduated to Fantapants. (Not that I could keep up with her anyway.) Don't worry about how 'fast' or 'slow' you are, just ride your own ride. Like Caseye said, the TEC will be cruising behind you somewhere and the others always wait at the intersections. It's all about enjoying a ride on some of the less travelled roads. :)

Well, we made all the hot spots - my money flowed like wine
And then that lowdown southern whiskey began to fog my mind
And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down
On the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town
Oh, but boy do I remember the strain of her refrain
And the nights we spent together, and the way she called my name.

The South Auckland Thursday Night Ride . . . rocks.
Thank you very much for an amazing ride.
To my TEC's you were great, I never felt as if I was being hurried along or pushed to go faster than I could manage.
The group even took the time to stop and check on me at the half way point and to give me a heads up about the road ahead. Even so I can't believe I managed to scrape my boot on the hairpin bends (never done that before)
Wahoo! What I ride.
Thanks heaps guys & girl.
