did you remove the optional dildo attachment from your fireblade?

that's bound to give you a sore arse and the sore wrists come from honda's trademark "reach around strengthening clip-ons", did you notice the funny angle of them and the flesh like texture of the grips??

1st owner kept the dildo attachment. He also had all the suspension setting maxed out to get more "feel" from it.

The bars are a lot lower on the honda putting more weight on the wrists and are at a slightly more inward angle too.

Was a prick of thing to do the coromandel loop on, I was in so much pain one day I though ah fuck it and threw it down the road into a clay bank and jumped on the back of a mates suzuki instead.

You got trailers to Taupo ya lucky bastiches? New car has a tow bar but no socket for the trailer lights - wtf is that all about?
Where's the problem? Just get someone to sit on one of the bikes on the trailer and work the indicators and brakes on the bike! Problem solved!:done:

The_Dover

bro, we're in new zealand.

who the fuck uses indicators?

Fireblades !!!! MMMmmmmmm

If my aging memory serves me right that in the early 90's (not the 1890's), in the UK, they were fondly refered to by most bike riders as a "Clitoris" as every cu*t had one.

Does this hold true today?

Enquiring mind wishes to know.

The_Dover
26th October 2006, 13:47
no apparently these days that particular analogy is applied to gixxers.

but just like a real clitoris, if you know what to do with it then the bitches love you.

First ride with you folk.
A bit confusing with all the stops but after we finally decided the others were lost beyond all finding the ride was fun. A good crew.
Pity we headed into the sun, saw a couple of bum clenchers in font as riders came around corners into the setting sun and came close to running off the road. The twilight then darkness coupled with a bug covered visor sure made it interesting at times.
Anyway, had a great time.
BTW: I keep spare ear plugs in my toolkit for those who follow my noisy one lunger.

"Keeping up with the sport bikes"????
Those bloody sport bikes are slugs in the twisty bits huh!? :bleh: Haven't they learned that brakes only slow ya down?!
Kiwi roads are a shocker: gravel, dirt, pot holes, bad cambers etc. No wonder chook chasers usually smoke the sport crowd when the goping gets tight

How many peaps?

Was everyone keen to cough up?

Good ride! Thanks to McJim for setting a nice pace for us slow two-fiddies - backfiring of the bike upfront scared bejesus out of me at one stage, thought it was an irate farmer taking potshots at us!

Numerous highlights : Finding some no.8 fencing wire to replace my lost clock unit bolt (was fun seeing it bobble around ... not!)

Checking out Adiddy's ride for the suspicious wet smear on the right side of the rear wheel (thought he was leaking coolant, but turns out it was something he rode through!)

Watching the lone biker zooming in front, zooming back and then zooming out of sight again (dizzam - he got 3 rides out of the ride tonight!)

The split group confuzzle that had bikers popping in and out and then fragmenting! Confuzed us? Confoozled the rozzers too! Watching the anchors slam on once our group realised that there was one waiting before the turn off from the Moronway! I watched the ecilop look up and then at me directly!

Me running wide after following too closely to Aiddy around a sharp corner :innocent:

And finally, after we all left Clevedon pub, I pootled back home via way of Hamilton  home in bed by 1:00am

Great fun everyone! :niceone:

I preferred the Chile and Nachos but it was nice enough - warm corned beef.

About 15-20 - I didn't count.

Dunno - I paid and I'm a tight bastard so I assume some others must have too.

yeah, food wasn't as good as last week, "lesbian platter" I think boomer referred to it as.

most coughed up, there were 15 at the start of the ride, dunno how many actually made the pub but i've got about 35 pesos at home for the BBQ/Spank fund.

It was a great night, missed the girlfriend being pillion but it did allow me to take the corners a little more aggresively than usual.

Old Guy was great a a trailbalzer for us slow bastards and those fast 250's.

Enjoyed the food but I concur with McJim that the chile and nachos were better.

I think that everyone paid up, I slipped Dover my contribution. (let them read that as they will Dover)

Abou 15 bikes there. Seems to be growing. Nice to see the big singles there and hear how they gave the sports machines a real run for their money on the corners.

The KTM rider has been known to me for over 40 years. I remember when he first learnt to ride a bike (Suzuki TS125, mine) in the 70's. Ever since then he has always been a better rider than me. Nice to see him doing it to someone else for a change.

BTW Having known him for so long it has only just occured to me that this was the first time I have ever been out for a ride with him. Mike we have to do it again sometime.

47 years, 5 months and 20 some days actually bro.
BTW, I think I learned to ride on the old mans TS 90, my mates briggs and stratton minibike and big sisters ac50; i didn't get to ride your chook chaser much, you wouldn't let me and i had to 'steal it' like you stole the old fellas TS 90 Wolf.

Wifey won't let me do my stuff on the track anymore since the broken back and paralysis thing so I have to take it out on the roadies. :innocent: She doesn't get the idea that I'd probably be less likely to crash and die on a racetrack.

Didn't we ride together? You might be right. My first bike was your crashed RD350B ($250, a handlebar, grips, paint job and goat skin seat cover) and after that mishap you'd given up on bikes for a while until you pissed off to pomgolia. I rode a lot with your mates though, particularly Scelly and Dick.

Tchh. You can tell he's a Glaswegian, can't you.

You're in CIVILISED parts now, man. Down here in Godzone we have a healthier , more varied diet.

There are FOUR main food groups, not two. Fat, starch , sugar, and burnt crunchy bits.

(Alcohol is not a food group. It is classified as a medicine)

yeah, those damn road bikes are moving obstacle courses eh! (but it's kinda fun carving them up)
dunno why you buy them. hell, your CBR has about 100 rear wheel pony power vs my bikes 55 and with my porky 95kg arse onboard there probably wasn't much between us in all up weight either.

i gotta sing the praises of that chook chaser. i've had jappers (hondwhores, yamahahas), woppas (ducrapis, gruzzlies), goose steppers (bmwobbleyou) and have even ridden spanish and czech things but nothing has kept me drooling and smiling like the austrian trail bike with road wheels.
I usually get bored and flog them off after a year but have had the ktm for 3+ years already and still want to keep it.
Mind you, the 720 kit or superdupercharger might be next; that yamahaha chookie with 175cc less was practically identical in acceleration up to 160kph. He tells me it has the full race kit and all i have is a mild cam, some holes in my airbox and a noisy exhaust.
The ktm made 55 bhp on the dyno (up from 44 bhp stock). The yamahaha might make close to 50 bhp but they're a lot lighter and i think the rider was too.

any bites yet?

Guiness is medicine not food. It's good for you. Chocolate is part of the "fat" food group. Rabbit food is only food if you're a rabbit. And wacky backy is also medicinal. I'm told.

just call me poppa, my granddaughter does and her little brother will when he can talk

i was impressed with the yammy, it grunted real well. ktm quote 149kg for the sm, yamaha claim 113kg and as the yammy is a real race bike, that's probably not too far off. i doubt you were anywhere near 30kg heavier than me so the yammy makes less power but makes up for it by being light.
I see yammy also has over 12:1 compression while mine is about 9.5:1 and with your race kit yours might have more. Plus the flatslide etc etc

I guess there's plenty of scope to get more grunt outta the ktm yet............i'll need a job first though i guess, maybe it'd be cheaper to get a testicle enlarger?

Thanks Dover, was great ride last nite, bit of confusion at the start. but all worked out fine.

Was a good ride out to kaiaua, nice McJim kept a good pace and looked after the group while I tore of ahead and had a bit of fun, then waited for them to catch up.

nice turnout good to see a couple of motards, they gave me the learn on the way home, couldn,t catch up with the KTM and the WR was all over my back wheel, when he got the chance to pass was gone. I spent the rest of that ride trying to keep there tail lights in sights. cheers idleidolidyll / Blackbuell

.. but that being said the chook chasers would have been gorn burger:yes:

that's for sure, on the back straight at puke i would get at most 180kph, you'd be close to 100k faster

i always found Puke a bit boring. probably because i raced smaller bikes like 600's and 750 ducatis back in the 80's
my old CBR woulda got maybe 220 but it was the first of the line in 87 with all of 75bhp

i miss the likes of Bay Park, the Napier Street Race, Gracefield in Wellington

luckily i got to live in Christchurch for ages and had Ruapuna and Timaru to play on

met great folk, dr payne, rob lewis, mike brosnan, even john britten

Spend lotsa time at the tracks, it helps a lot

The twistier the better though, anyone can do 270 on a modern 1000 if the straights are long enough

hiring Ruapuna was cheap. When Puke was costing $10,000+ for the Sound of Thunder meeting, Ruapuna cost us $1500 and we made upward of $15k profit from the weekend. It was owned by the christchurch city council and managed by the car club whereas Puke is owned by the horsey people

at Puke though, practise braking for the hairpin.
don't worry about having a nice line for the corner coming out. brake until you stop, then make a mental note of that braking point and try braking half the distance between your stopping point and danger earlier the next time

you'll soon figure out your last possible braking point when it comes to the demon move down the inside with Aaron Slight in front of you (but Aaron would still kick your arse)

oops, i'm rambling

time to wipe off the drool and visit mrs idleidolidyll in the lounge

good tips about the braking, cheers for that; i've ran off there before cos i missed my braking point.. as have many many others!!!

well if ya can stand an old guy reminiscing about the good ol days I've got lots more: why doing just outside the lap record for an hour at a time at the 6 hour is a bad idea (fried brakes, rooted tyres, pissed off pit crew)

as for the chook chasers, those things give the fast boys teh learn around Coro, so i have no misconseptions as to how fast they are through the twisties :scooter:

yeah, coro is good fun in places, the far top end of the peninsula is a bit droll though. My thing is to go fast slower, that's why i like the ktm my licence stays cleaner.

there's some good suspension guys around if they've got time for your work. Gaudenz Gisler in Tuakau is one of the best in the country IMO and as old as he is, still kicks arse on a supermotard

Mike,

You seem to be enjoying yourself here on the site.

Got the missus on the site? Whats my sis in laws name here?

I had a feeling you would enjoy the ride on Thursday night. I think I will be seeing you there again if only to show Boomer and Dover how to corner properly.

Old Guy sounds like he had fun trying to keep up with you on the way home.

If all us old boys keep crawling out of the past these youngsters will start to get a little nervous.

How would the ride have been if we had Scelly, Hinds and the others there?

I still remeber pub crawling to Tauranga with Scelly on our Yamaha 350's. Crashed mine a few times and chewed up a lot of farmers fields running out of road.

Years ago when i'd just started road racing, i thought i was pretty shit hot.
My world came crashing down though when Hugh Anderson ,at the age of 56, kicked my butt all over Gracefield. He did the same at Wanganui. I was on a 650 Cagiva and Hugh was on some old Brit thing.
I figured out that day that old guys are not necessarily slow guys and that they were worth listening to.
Hugh, Dallas Rankine and Ginger Molloy as well as a number of other 'oldies' taught me some good lessons in those first few years.
Motorcycle racers may grow older but they don't grow much slower unless they have big accidents along the way.

Dai

My racing carrer wasnt very long or eventful, about 4 years of short track and beach racing then 20 years later a season of drag racing at Santa Pod.

In the 6 years between getting my licence and leaving for the UK, Scelly and I did a lot of what they now call hooning around. Trips like Sth Auck to Levin to see a movie, Tauranga on a pub crawl, Auckland-Tauranga-Taupo-Auck for a decent hamburger. All these on 1970's motorcycles. No way as well built as todays bikes.

Nutta things like this because we were young and invincible. Even when Paul died on a motorbike we never stopped, if anything we got worse.

I love this Thursday ride out as it is sharpening my reaction times again. Too many hours motorway crusing to work. Once I regain my confidence in myself and my bike I will probably be back up there hooning around with the others. Till then I am happy just following, arriving late, but less each week.

Great bunch of people on this regular run.

Gotta get the handling and susspension sorted out on the GS. The bike wants to scrape its pegs on cornering but the front end wont let it.

Only a fool's not prepeared to listen & learn.

I'm not what you consider fast, but compared to six months ago i'm Rossi!! All becasue i've listened and watched and got out and played.

if i'd got into bikes in my teens then i'd be racing by now, 36 and i'm happy to be experiencing scraped feet and knees

Never too old to race, just find an event you like. Talk to Mike, I think he still knows loads of people in the game.

I am 50 next month and am still learning all be it a little less quickly than I used to.

Sometime in the next 2 years I plan on getting back into the 1/4 mile side.

I have two ambitions to fullfil on a bike.

200 Miles per Hour and a 9 second standing quarter.

Both will be achieved one day.

My best at Santa Pod was 10.5s@135mph on a slightly modified ZZR1100 Kwaka. Rode it to the track, took off a little plastic and hammered it down the track used to "bracket" race. Had to stay betwwn 10.5 and 11 seconds or I was out of the event. Bloody hard to try and keep within a half a second over 400 yards.

Best top speed was 185mph on the M4 going from London to Sth Wales. The rozzers put up a block car for me at Bristol. I didnt even know they were chasing me.

Oh well lifes a bitch then you marry one.

Sadly, I'm too fat to get low 1/4 mile times on anything.
Power to weight ratio kills me every time.
The low numbers quoted by the magazines are usually achieved by 60kg midgets who need high heel shoes to reach the ground.

idleidolidyll

Honda state its capable of a 10:66 :Punk:

I often wonder how the manufacturers get these numbers. We all know they lie through their teeth when it comes to horsepower and weight.

I suspect their 1/4 mile times are reached by strapping a bike to a rolling road with no rider and controlling the throttle by computer. They might not even go to that trouble and just calculate the acceleration mathematically.

maybe i'm just an old cycnic

..
My world came crashing down though when Hugh Anderson ,at the age of 56, kicked my butt all over Gracefield. He did the same at Wanganui. I was on a 650 Cagiva and Hugh was on some old Brit thing.
..

Hehheh, the "old Brit thing" was probably a ruddy Manx Norton. Caviga would have been way outclassed. Won't speak for riders, but Anderson was near as good as they get.

I didnt hear if there was a ride or not tonight so I assumed there wasnt. Decided to take a detour on my way home to Papakura from Newmarket. Via Dargaville. Nice ride but my arse was a little sore after a few hours of constant riding. Stopped at a mates house in Paparoa on the way back. Clocked the trip from there. 168 km from his drive to mine. 1 hour 40 min elapsed time. I was pleased with that. Missed the pub with you all. Next week?

I wasn't even a starter yesterday, wifey had us booked into a new restaraunt with some friends.
Probably good to go next week.
Tomorrow to Rotovegas to see the grandchildren, do some mountainbiking and maybe to Taupo Sunday to see Smets, Everts, the King Bros, Coppins, Townley etc.
This might rate as the 'best' motocross ever seen in NZ. 17 World Championships between them and a number of 2nds and thirds.

Went to the bike show in Manukau last weekend. It was OK but the prescence of patched gang members would probably mean it won't be supported well by the general public.
The venue, Manukau's new events centre, is a very good one for this but I'm not sure it was much of a success. The Honda Rune was gob smacking and a few of the customs were too. My favourite bike there was probably the mini chopper with the supercharger strapped to it. Imagine that! A 50cc motor with a supercharger off a 600cc car (Diahatsu).
600cc..........hmmm, that'd go nicely on my 625cc KTM..............

damn! you picked the wrong time of the year to break your bike. i used to work there and i know amps is particularly pressed for time about now as all the summer riders dust off their mounts and send them in for a service.
add delivery time from Blue Wing to that and you might be wise to go ask for a loaner (cross everything you've got you don't get the suzuki 100.

Well, that was a damp squib of a meet tonight! I blatted around twilight road and Clendon before meeting at the agreed point at 6.50pm, twiddled me bleeding fingers I did

By 7.15pm no-one else had turned up so I went to bugger off for the ride myself when lo, Dover turns up in a cage ... with a L-plate on it! So, yelling through the window, we agree to meet at his place - after I told him that bugger all else was there!

After spending some civilised time we meandered to the Clevedon pub - I however decided to fang it around the goat track and through the Hunuas anyway on my little two-fiddy lonesome! Dodging branches, ducking strong breezes and overtaking tardy cages! Arrived at the pub and lo! I see the motley crew (ladies excluded!) all having a pint and... not wearing their biking clobber :gob:

Anyhows, got some drinkies, shovelled down the "non-lesbian" platter (as quoted previously), listened to some great biking stories and then ... I still wanted to ride! So I did the quick, long way home and did twilight at night :woohoo: So much for me wanting to ride over the shore or down to the 'tron!

C'mon lads and ladettes! Get yer two wheels out next time and enjoy! :scooter:

Great ride tonight - had a fun time trying to keep up with the all bigger bikes (thank gosh for twisties!) and listening in on some great SI ride advice :niceone: Watching all the tailights disappear into the distance ...

Seems to be a feature for this ride to lose the tail enders? Lotsa interesting stories from the others hooning around in different parts of South side!

Sorry to Croft for all the hassle she got tonight! Bike condition hassle, helmet hassle, rolling ciggie hassle ... general hassle hassle  :innocent:

Interesting spinal protector observation - will have to get me one from Quasi next time down Hamil way (which won't be too long )

Good to see old faces, hope we get more out again for the next! Carpe Diem!

Woohoo! :woohoo: Great ride tonight - did a nice little trip around the back blocks and had to fang the revs to keep up with the others! Cheers to oldguy being TEC and putting up with the hornet's revving!

I could only marvel at the ease of others twisting their wrists and speeding up hills with aplomb. Interesting things on the ride was watching Croft waggling her leg trying to kick/indicate a brick on the road, her indicator bobbling up and down. Saw oldguy wizz pass after lead rider put his hand up to indicate the group to slow down! :shit: 30kph sign meant ... new metal/gravel surface on the road!

Ever since I've been on these rides, I think my bike has been leaning over more and more, I lost count of the times I was feeling my boots lose rubber to the road! (Thanks oldguy again for observing my cornering and giving me some feedback!)

Pub meet was a sedate affair (a change I guess!). Croft managed to get the wind up the lads by mentioning she got given freebies! free bike wash and a free drinky ... what next? Free petrol?

Anyhows, managed to sneak in another quick blat around Twilight and around Whitford. Talked bikes with the lads who graciously waited for me before coming home again. 11 litres of 98 used for good purpose! Thanks to Brian for leading and Boomer, Crazysteve for showing up (Aididdy in a ... cage, but had good excuse).

Well this is a first for me - I didn't pootle off to some random destination after our laissez-faire departures from Clevedon!

Anyhow, big ups to the small but enthusiastic crowd that turned up, even a nice shiny new toy, which had everyone oohing and aahing over - covered the same trip as last time and even had our own private motorcycle marking (someone's burn marks )

The road conditions were speckled with damp patches here and there - the loose metal from last week was fixed ... only the buggers had done it earlier into the ride! There was a :shit: moment when I saw the bunch ahead overtake a car ... just to enter into a gravel section!

To make it all seem like a bad joke, the 30kph sign was tossed in a side ditch 50metres up! :pinch: I was taking it easy since my front wheel was a bit past it's best and had some flat patches  (will replace this week!)

A nice little yarn, some eats and then we beat a retreat to our various hovels to stash our gear and rides ... to all those who didn't turn up, missed a great ride with some interesting bits care of the weather and careless road workings! :woohoo: Spotcha all on the next one out! :done:

Those who didn't come out last night missed a great ride.
We were a small group of five who trusted the skies not to open and we were rewarded with mainly dry roads and not a drop of rain while we were riding.

As usual we stopped at Clevedon to enjoy each others company and swap stories about our rides and our lives.

Thanks to those who did come, I for one enjoyed your company immensely.

idleidolidyll

Here's something interesting.
I'm sure most people realise that the figures quoted for horsepower and weight by many manufacturers are stretching reality to its breaking point.
I mean, what use is a dry weight figure when the bike is drained of water, oil, fork and shock oil, brake fluid etc? You can't start that bike up, it would seize in a minute and you certainly can't ride it
.
Well in the latest issue of Rapid Bike there's an article on the new CBR600. In the article the weight issue is discussed and the dry weight number quoted by Honda for the 07 CBR is just 155kg. HOWEVER, Honda has now come clean and is quoting a ready to ride kerb weight of 184kg! That means to get the 'dry weight' figure, they drained almost 30kg of fluid from the bike! 30kg!!
Some Euro marques only quote ready to ride weights, notably BMW and KTM.

In comparison to the new CBR600's 184kg, my new KTM 950 Supermoto weighs 191kg ready to ride. I always knew the Japanese, Italian, Brit numbers were bogus but I didn't think they were quite THAT bogus!
If this formula is correct, an R1 Yamaha and Suzuki GSXR really weigh more like 200kg ready to ride! NOT their quoted weights of 165-170kg.

Of course there's another number most factories lie about too: horsepower.
Again, the Japanese factories test their motors with all ancillary equipment removed (alternator etc) and measure at the crank not the back wheel where we use that power. A Yammy R1 quoted as having about 180BHP therefore may only have 150 at the back wheel (still a lot but not what we are lead to believe).
Again, KTM and a tiny few others differ from the practice of fudging figures. KTM quotes horsepower at the back wheel on a run in motor. My bike is rated at 95bhp at the back wheel which is probably pretty much the same as that new CBR600 which is rated at 118bhp at the crank. Of course the 950SM is built for torque and has way more than the CBR making it much easier to use on the road.
I think KTM and BMW may suffer sometimes for their honesty. The KTM SuperDuke for instance only claims 118bhp while its opposition say Aprilia for the Tuono claim 130bhp+. I recall a Tuono on the Dyno at AMPS getting 114bhp at the rear wheel which is not a surprise given that both the Tuono and the Superduke are fuel injected 1000cc Vee Twin motors.

Life would be a lot simpler if all the manufacturers used the same method to quote weights and bhp; I'd suggest the reality based methods used by KTM are what we need to hear, not the outrageous numbers we'll never feel beneath our bums.

The_Dover
2nd December 2006, 08:01

Fancy that, we had just the same dicusssion last night on the ATNR....... Yeah I agree, I wish they would just make it a universal measurement instead of bhp from the back wheel or from the crank etc... Would make our weekly discussion a bit more level.......

Try Ulysses, it may be more suitable.

Life's too short to be pretentious and uptight. I'd rather just ride my bike than talk about RWHP, Kg and lap times.

I may be slow but I don't care.
