Cheers Lethal, great roads and good leading, love watching you lean her in and sweep out, hardly had to brake and was happy though alert following your lines in and out. Pity it was just us, skies were amazing and we missed all of the rain, Rangiriri was pretty quiet by the time we got there, but a pleasant stop nevertheless.
Looking forward to next week, more riders would be nice.
Calling all old SATNR's and new guys/girls, come out for a ride on any Thursday Night (funny that) at the Southern Motorway BP ( just past Papakura off ramp heading south) in front of the Autobahn from 6 pm onwards, ride off at approx 7pm ride for approx an hour - 1 1/2 and then a stop at a nice pub for grub and a pint, then off home.

It was a good ride, I could have kept going to Waingaro pub if it wasn't looking so dodgy further south :)

That was an enjoyable ride..... shame the pub stops didn't workout, would have been nice to stop in at Waingaro again.... but with that many cars there the pace would have been packed, and best to leave them to there event and must remember that Rangariri closes early if its quite... At least we did stop for a quick bite to eat :)
I guess around 180K's for the night + the k's to get too and from home :D

17th January 2015, 16:14
Welcome to the SATNR thread here on KB. Feel free to rock up, we go at the slowest riders pace, so no worries about keeping up, our moto is "ride your own ride"
Thursday night at the Southern motorway BP by Papakura, meet outside the Autobahn any time after 6 pm ride off is 7pm. Usually some of the old guard there and these days we are getting a few new/returning riders coming along.
We don't do stupid shit, have always got everyone home every night ,we usually ride for about an hour or more and end up at a local hostillery or eatery where we mob up and talk BS, before heading our separate ways home.
Be glad to have you along.
Last Thursday night we had a 1250 bandit, a Buell Firebolt, a FJR Yammy and a bloody smooth as old Honda cruiser who was lead rider and the bandit was TEC, simple rules, don't pass lead rider, if you have a problem let TEC know. Ride speed is usually 100 k's depending on road conditions etc.
Used to ride rain hail, or snow, but that has dramatically changed these last few years, getting old and senile I reckon most of em.

K< well you can "drag out anything with 2 wheels an an engine, if it doesn't go, spank it till it does.
Head to the BP On the Southern Motorway just past the Papakura off ramp, in front of the Autobahn, at about 6-7pm, ride off at 7.
Had a good run tonight, followed the rain, but never got wet. Ended up at a 2 bit saloon serving moonshine in Tuakau, nice vibes, but the Beam when I got home cleaned out the whistles.

Now then, a night like tonight and nothing! come on you hard as fuck Sth Dorkland Riders howzabout some of you call the night and do the ride leading and stuff.
Weather is important, least whether it's rainingi or not before you head out the door is, but once you're at the Autobahn in Drury it doesn't matter, it's ride time, rain hail or snow.
Come out of your warm little holes you lot, come on, lets be having ya.

I am a bit confussed - doesn't take much
are you asking for more riders?
other people to take the lead?
or both?
what type of riding (learner speed/confident/racer or whatever turns up) and approx. distance/direction - does it really matter as long as its a ride

lol, asking for more riders, Na challenging those who want to ride but don't know if they should in case the SATNR guys and girls turn out to be like the ATNR wallies.
More riders would be nice, more people who come along and want to lead us somewhere different on unknown roads would be good.
SATNR has always operated a graduated system, we start together, we have a ride leader, pass them and you're on your own, we have a TEC , fall behind break down, they stay with you while you sort shit out. Wave them past you, you're on your own.
TEC, rides behind the folk at the back, there is no pressure to go fast, the emphasis is getting everyone to our destination and ensuring they have a good time doing it.
Older, longer time in riders do follow behind those who want feed back and offer advice, even stretching to leading and showing cornering techniques etc, all very informal.
Once a Long time ago, it wasn't unusual to have 20 or so bikes together on an ordinary Thursday Night Ride in the South.
Time, circumstances and simple fatigue has weeded many, moving away has accouned for others, selling anything to do with bikes has got one or two, but generally weather plays a big part over the winter months, things do improve as summer arrives and daylight saving kicks in.
Great bunch of bloody Good barstewads and stewardesses, come along try it out.
Thursday Nights.
Outside Autobahn cafe on the Southern Motorway just past the Papakura off Ramp heading south.
Anytime after 6pm meet up, ride off at 7pm.
Destination is usually a pub or cafe.
Ride usually about 1-2 hours long.
No drama's, no wrestling in front of the kids, aye you two precious little ballerina's.
Winter, means most come out if it's not raining, cold is a bad riding companion so if your coming out, dress WARM, be prepared to ride home in the dark, worried about that, let one of the old hands know, they'll ride with you.
Having a good run, enjoying a few lines of BS at the destination and getting home in one piece is really what we're about.

Myself:
dont know about ATNR
have ridden with SASS-sounds similar to you. They are a great bunch.
good idea if someone passes leader or waves TEC on - they are on there own (cool)
I am still too 'dangerous' to ride with a group IMHO (as well as bike under repair and I work till 7 most nights)
my gear isnt setup for cold weather. - a tee shirt doesnt really cut it under gear.
lets see what happens.
your description should be food for thought for others.

OK, so who is going to put their hand up for this Thursday night ride.
I'm going.
Hey eldog. Dress warm, put yourself in front of me (Tec) and enjoy a quiet pootle in the country side with a bunch of slow old farts who spend more time talking BS in a noice warm bar or restaurant somewhere than they do riding in rain or darkness.

Found the part I had ordered AGAIN from Red Baron, it had rolled behind some crap where I had been repairing it and my 'man look' couldn't find it.
So I should have it back together again by Thurs. I have already lost it twice now. and there another on its way... bugger
I need direction and a stick approach or something to challenge me, before I get it together.
I make all the mistakes in the world before I get it right so be prepared.
Got some longer 1000k+ rides planned for later in the year, if you have suggestions about preparing for that, would be helpful.
if its only 1 or 100 its no worries. Last week it was none and that was great - had to do it myself.
Can be whatever ride you want -
I already know that I need to improve slow speed manoeuvring and cornering anticipation, but I don't need to race.

The South Auckland Thursday Night Riders don't race, never enough of em these days anyway, we've not lost a newbie yet and there's been plenty of them come along with us on a regular basis who've gone on to bigger and better things.
Other gatherings want to go fast, we want to get to where we're going and enjoy a quiet ride home, if on the way there or back we learn something that's good.
Be nice to ride with you again lethal me ol mate.

I understand about work, its a fickle beast for some of us. Sometimes there, sometimes not but its the only way for me to pay for my rides.
I know all about jobs like you describe, if you are lucky you have an understanding customer who may at least meet you halfway. If not its a hard hill to climb.
Lately I have had weeks and months of almost no riding. Every now and then I get a chance, often its last minute and unplanned, mostly I have 1/2 hour notice.
I enjoyed my wee pootle on Thurs, actually appreciated the lack of planning and enjoyed myself a lot.
Encountered my usual string of obstacles
3 sets of road works (all poorly done almost all on areas which had been fully dug up and relayed less than 5 years ago. and 1 area which should have been done 10 years ago, a slump of 100-150mm across the middle of 1 lane for a good 6m)
1 ambo with disco lights in the middle of nowhere on the way to a incident
1 Siamese cat pretending to be a give way sign post or road kill
2 mad car drivers - can they not see me?
1 gokart driver looking slightly sheepish
1 suicidal flying bird which I avoided
1 farmer and tractor with no lights or warrantable gear
1 person dumping unknown liquid (1000 L)stuff into a ditch - dodgy....
1 set of Unforgiving Roads - hadn't been on one of those before, are there forgiving roads somewhere?
1 undercover speed camera - unless I have missed the speed sign or otherwise screwed up they are wasting their time.
missed the usual blue disco lights - must have been their night off. And the good looking blonde policewoman - bugger.
There was the usual nice summer views of paddocks, babes and animals.
spent 90% of the trip with no one else on the road in any direction - which was nice and the summer sun provided some nice views
and I did manage to stop and look at things which I had seen before but never really took much notice.
Spent the last part of the trip avoiding getting runover by ignorant people who cant drive
I don't know if I will make it in the next few weeks, going to Te Kuiti this weekend, I tend to try to get 1 ride in a week if I can but like I said before sometimes its a month or more....

Interested in joining in, are you guys strictly street bikes or do you look for the gravel roads too?
There's a few places to play around in the rough stuff around the airport, or the ride out to port Waikato couple of dirt roads its a good run, mix of both dirt and tar sealed twisties, about 40-60 min round trip from Bombay bp and decent food, cheap beer at Tuakau cossie

Happy to show you & your group some of the best hidden twisty's out this way if your keen. Whitford, maraetai, clendon, huanua, dury, ramarama, Tuakau, and port Waikato (just not all on the same night). Good Mix of fast, scenic & technical roads.
Let me know if your up for it.

Thursday was a nice night for a wee pootle.
The Autobarn was quite a relevation, the things people do and wear....... there is a few that cant drive either.
Tahuna road a good alternative to those other main routes.
Road works from Morrinsville through to the other side of Matamata
Some signage but no sweeping of extra metal off the top. Taking signage down on Sunday.
Loose metal at turn off from SH27 to Morrinsville, nasty.
Could see repairs over repairs on some of the areas. Patches starting to appear mostly on left wheel track areas.
Excellent weekend.:blip::devil2::spanking:

Leather took us on a tight and twisty ride. Not quite the direction I imagined at the rider briefing, but still well worth it after quite a few months of crappie customers at work.
I got one of those famous lemon lime bitter handles you like do well.

No worries, it has been hectic the past couple of months.
i learnt my lesson a while back, if you even remotely think you might go for a ride, get the bike sorted before ride night. LOL
last year one of my HWC low pressure regulator blew, water all over the place, lucky the main relief operated and dumped a lot more water out through the outside drain. Insurance covered all the repairs but not the cylinder (wear and tear).
and I thought I was the only one with a middle name of Murphy.:niceone:

Point.
It's a typical modern lighting setup where the low beam is on full time but is truncated across the top. Not much to be done about it. If I raised it (which is dead easy to do) then high beam would be navigation hazard for aircraft.
Our cars are the same.

Thursday - Usually hang around till 7 ish then decide on a random ride
If its bad weather then no one will turn up - be realistic, the colder/wetter it is the less likely there will be someone
Leathels ride the other week was well and truly random - it gave me lots of practise - which is eactly what I need.
Would do that again, if only I could remember where we went LOL.
Its just a ride and a chin wag, ask questions seek advice. All relaxed no pressure to keep up.

It was a nice wee run, some of the roads I knew some definitely worth trying again, liked those tight twisties. Finally got some sort of rhythm going.
excellent to see the group working together, everyone rides at their own pace.
Amit followed me home, almost led him the long way, but thought better of it, so at least he knows how to get back to mway etc.
Bass if there is a orange sidecar, try that one:woohoo:

Amit,
remember -
Country roads, people often cut the corners
and
loose metal on edges, off driveways, intersections
take your time develop at your own pace.

The road from Rangareri to 22 is full of roadworks. Just in case you were heading that way. 22 is fine. Was out that way yesterday.
And half of the scenic drive around Lake Wairere is the same.
Not sure I'd agree that 22 is "fine"!

22 is what 22 is.... has to be treated with respect as it will always have roads slumping etc..... But I love it warts and all :D

To be fair, they have repaired one of the worst parts, and quite a few sections have been resealed during the last couple of summers.
It certainly is a challenging ride, but great fun. There seem to be more bikes using it these days - I recently saw a Harley holding up a car on one of the tight sections!

22 is a country road and should be treated as such. Any country road can have challenges.

Absolutely. Especially in the Far North!
There was something in the media last year about recognising that it is a motorcycle touring route, and how NZTA, ACC and Waikato district council have developed a plan to improve the road. We're starting to see the results of this, including the Safer Rides signs.

Nice idea,
fixing it it with layers of unswept chip seal is going to fix it.
yeah right.
we need more creative tourism being a Mecca for bikes, riding etc is a good start, we need to improve our whole community driving skills.
we have the scenery in a very small area that most other countries are envious of. We should use it.
i liked riding the roads we have done in the past couple of weeks, somewhat better than 22

I managed a couple of good slides on that chip seal. At least the road after the Raglan turnoff is OK.
Where have you been riding?

The bit going south after the Ralan turn off is epic.

Well it is drizzly here in papakura. Want to go but not sure.
Typical the bike has been cleaned. Helmet cleaned. The gloves and boots waxed and polished. Fuelled up. Then shit happens. Even got off work early.
