Less chance of getting hit by a piece of mouldy old bread (Penicillin) than a bee. I would have thought that you had about 20 mins from the bee sting...

He died within 20 minutes from a previously un-diagnosed allergy - scary stuff.

I had not been stung before I reacted to a sting. Ended up spending 2 hours being injected with adrenalin into my inner thigh, not fun.

With penicillin I had had it a good few times before.

Good meet, awesome quick ride, got absolutely drowned in the downpour on my way home... gear all hanging up to dry, no results in another hour its going in the dryer overnight.... LOL
My long term solution:
Get a cheap dehumidifier.
Pipe it's water output outside so that the tank is never full. I did this in the garage so that I didn't need to drill holes or anything.
Hang your wet gear in the airflow from the exhaust of the dehumidifier.

The smaller the space you can have without folding your gear the more effective. Even better if you can hang the gear so that there is an airway up arms and legs.
Using this method I can dry my gear from washed in the bath to wearable in about 12-24 hours ( depending on air temp, as if it is too cold the dehumidifier freezes with that much moisture to remove ) without affecting the integrity of the fabrics.
From down pour to wearing again is the next day, if I need it sooner I have an old shipping crate I can move my dehumidifier and gear inside of to dry up to 4 pieces in about 5 hours in a warm day 8 on a cold one.
The rest of the time that shipping crate serves as a bike gear wardrobe.

No HW cupboard, that's a bummer.

Had to replace HW cylinder a few months back after small flood.
Got one of those new Ceramic/Porcelain jobbies, originally a low pressure system, upped the pressure with new tank (its designed for it)
I used to be able to piss faster, now actually able to have a shower and adjust temp - before was a hit and a miss affair.:wings:

Our cylinder went a couple of days before Christmas. So we ripped it out and put in an instant gas unit. Endless mains pressure hot showers [emoji3]. Just no hw cupboard. But that will be fixed during our renovation with a small electric cupboard heater.

Boots don't get wet inside and outside dries quickly so not really an issue. Gloves don't really get wet inside and fan overnight is normally enough for the outside.

HWC = Cool, that was my option too, stuck with electric, replaced all other valves in house of the same age/type too as a precaution
had to save a bit of moolah to get it done properly.

To be fair, my gloves were starting to leak a bit after about 4 years, so I bought a new pair last winter. The idea was that I could rotate them if they got wet. Also, I take a spare pair with me on really wet days so that I can wear dry gloves home if I can't dry them during the day at work.

Front wheel punctured by truck bolt aws? Doesn't explain what happened to ur fender?

Re sodden gear...current place has nice hot water cupboard storage and good insulated garage where I can hang stuff to dry quite nicely BUT I also have several sets of gear I switch between. Four sets of gloves - summer and winter and some inner thermal ones from katmandu, otherwise black fitted latex disposables purchased at tattoo parlours or in a pinch the white ones do well inside summers along with heat packets. Always carry a second pair of gloves with me. Dubb me boots and trench now and then and rug up nicely (layers etc). Quite toasty on the tractor...need to get a new face sock though, me old faithfuls falling to bits.

Missed you and Tig at SASS Granda and hope alls well? Good to see eldog and adventurer Mark at the watering hole.

We still need to sit down and nut out worst case scenario plan, talk and perhaps think about who carries what, I kinda thought if we could all carry atleast one key item each that'd be a start. Then no one persons loaded with everything. But I don't want to be too fixated onnit OK.

aws
27th May 2015, 23:11
You decided your bike really needs a clean?

Haha, I wondered if someone would make a crack about that. I did actually give it a quick wipe before I took the photo, but it dried and still looks grubby as. Problem at the moment is I'm having to ride thru a vacant section to park my bike in our rear shed while our house alterations are underway. No win job trying to keep it clean in those conditions.

Front wheel punctured by truck bolt aws? Doesn't explain what happened to ur fender?

Well spotted - and not so well spotted. Look again. that's a rear tyre, and it is the "hugger" not the front guard that has sustained the damage.

Must have been a nail I picked up - made a hang of a racket for a few seconds before flicking out. Was still handling OK, so I wasn't too worried. I knew the tyre had picked up something, but didn't even occur to me that it might be punctured. I've hardly ever had bike punctures. Then the handling went to pieces on Khyber Pass, so I pulled over and had next to no air left in the tyre. Managed to ride it over the road and up the footpath to the TyrePlus in Newmarket. I was just wondering what to do, and the guy offered to put some air in it for me, then I remembered my plug kit. He said - no worries, I can put a temp plug in it for you. First one didn't seal. Second one did (just). Didn't even charge me - what a bloke!

Took it to the bike shop for a proper repair and they said it was about a 10 mm hole on the inside. Must have been a nail or something and it has caught on the hugger, and that catching every revolution must have been what pulled it out and left it in the middle of the fast lane on the viaduct! Anyway, probably just as well I went straight away to get a proper repair, as that temp plug can't have been holding on to very much in a hole that size!

Gloves and boots normally don't get intolerable.
If they do I have found sterile beer bottle rock.
Chuck the neck of a warm one up each digit in turn so you know the finger linings are in the fingers, then leave them standing with the neck up the middle finger ( or a finger that let's the glove balance ) if it will be a day or two leave in the window.
If you are out and about leave them on your muffler.
If you are at home or work and they are not running wet leave them on your PC case.

Boots I stuff with paper, change and leave till following day otherwise the same as any other gear.

Have you tried Rodger at Action motorcycle wreckers in takapuna? Im sure he would have one.

Depending on the shop they will likely trot out excuses about it was how you treated your gear.
When that has happened to me in the past I just calmly state something to the effect: The consumer guarantees act says all goods shall be fit for purpose for a reasonable period. I expect quality gear to last 2-5 years. This is after all safety gear, so it should be up to daily use.

I don't recall ever finishing that mouthful. I think the furthest I got was quality. Even when the gear in question was outside manufacturers warrantee, or a shops posted guarantee.
The act doesn't stipulate timeframes. Just what is reasonable given the discussions with sales staff. Especially where there was expression of intent. Intent is somewhat implied in that if you buy a motorcycle jacket you will wear it on a motorcycle and if it is an all season it will get worn year round in any weather. But you can also ask if it is suitable for certain used. E.g if you ask if it is suitable for adventure riding, they say yes and your sweat discolours the jacket you would have a claim.

cheers for the advice :) yeah i was going to flop out the CGA if they started getting shifty... it's cnell gear, so not exactally dianesse or rev'it quality, but still, to get 5 months out of a pair of pants is a bit of a have, especially when they weren't the cheepest

I have checked the rain radar and there is a big band of rain that will be passing over about the time we will be on the road.

So I am making the call that there will be no road riding.
I will be at the pub having a hot chocolate and who ever turns up, we can begin the flowchart that we talked about last week.

I got the VTR back legal today. Had to ride back in the rain. Found my rearset pegs are way to worn. As they are a old race model finding new ones could be fun. My feet were slipping off. Will see if a engineering shop can re-knurl them.

VTR may come back to Sass sometime soon. Sharry wont be coming out through winter so I can bring it out to play.

Tonight I was in the work car just entering the CBD on ramp to SH1, go to merge onto the motorway and traffics moving fast, so I pause and make really sure I can see what's happening around me ...In that spilt second i see something but barely and can't make it out so delay switching lanes...keep looking in my right mirrors and WTF its a little bastard crotch rocket right behind me and its all black, riders wearing all black gear, and its got a busted fricken head and indicator lights. MF. In a group of 3 crotch rockets, other two filtering through traffic. So not impressed...had I not paused, I would have taken 'night rider' out cos it looked all clear, lucky for good overhead motorway lighting and other car headlights. Gawdamn idiot.

Wee trap for young players that one sis.
Once 22 or 23 years ago I was heading off for tech at silly o'clock in am I came around a corner in the thick fog. Suddenly there was a reflection off some chrome where there shouldn't be. Panicked I headed to the other side of the road... There a panicked cow cocky flicked his headlights on. I hit the brakes hard.
My skills weren't up to the task the back came around and I heard a blood curdling scream. That was me.
Realising my mistake I let off the brakes and aimed at the gap between them and thought skinny thoughts.
No idea how I made it but I did.

Lesson: cow cocky stopped in the road either means loose stock or he's catching up with a mate. Neither is good.

its a tractor, crank start it just like the old massey ferg..... you remember them?

No doubt you would have noticed the cold, maybe not with all those thermals on.
Batteries suffer in the cold and if you arent riding that much (vs summer) then the battery may not be maintained as well as it might.

If it was me I would have tried the CTEK and seen if the battery could have held its charge.

I would only replace the battery, but if you are replacing everything (All Booked) then you should be safe.

Something for everyone to think about - How is your battery condition, can you jump start your bike? by yourself? (I can:innocent:)

Spokes - the Scorpio can and has been kick started, quite an advantage when the battery goes flat.:niceone:

Holeshot or Experience motorcycles should have a set at the parts desk, They come in two different sets -The plugs that go in the bars are different sizes for different Vins as they changed the bars . Did you want sizes as I can measure up mine if you want ?

I want ones in black that will make new faster and sexier. I also want them to help me see a bit I guess.

Living in Edinburgh in Scotland at the moment, hoping to land a job next week fingers crossed. After that's said and done and I convert my NZ license to a UK one in November I'll be looking at buying something.

As it'll mainly be a weekend bike I'm leaning towards something grunty providing insurance isn't crazy. Either a KTM SuperDuke 990 or a CBR1000.

Saw the bike and trucks as I passed this morning. Bike was standing on left shoulder with no obvious damage during the fleeting glance. I think the rider was sitting on the guard rail with boots off. Not looking noticeably injured but it was a bit hard to tell who was who. Hopefully there wasn't anything more serious than some people late to work.

Good to hear from ya f2dz, we've missed ya and often wonder how things are. OMG that ur contemplating riding on those crazy roads.

Definitely missed the SASS rides as of late. Getting quite chilly up here in the north!

Hey matey! Scotland, huh? Land of haggis and kilts... Have fun and look forward to seeing what ride you get!

Haggis is quite tasty actually!

Here's a photo of the new beast:

It's a K3 SV650. Not as much grunt as my old GSXR but it's great for around town. Rode it from Glasgow to Edinburgh the first day I got it then the weekend after I rode it to Nottingham in England (where Robin Hood is from!) which was a 6 hour ride each way.

It runs on regular unleaded and is decent on gas too which is handy, as it's about $2.40/litre here, and that's regular not premium..

Will be investing in some thicker gear soon. Heard bad things about winter riding, especially with how crap the roads are in the city here plus all of the obstacles to deal with, manhole covers galore. I'm gonna try to tough it out and see how I go but if it's as bad as they say I may end up parking the bike up for Jan/Feb when it's really bad.

I was the same way when thinking about haggis but it's really nice. The texture is sort of a cross between mice and stuffing, and it just tastes like meat. Black pudding on the other hand...

Ooh, I'll have to go there. I've been through Glencoe a couple times already but haven't stopped anywhere. I've tried Thistle Cross though, wasn't a fan.

Been on a whisky tour in Crieff, where Ewan McGregor grew up, but overdue for another tour soon. There's a big lager brewery near where I live so might go there in due course also!

Nice new ride and sounds like all the tour's and testing of some fine brews has fun and beautiful veiwing in between stops .
Is the SV as fun to ride as the GSX-R ?

SASS people when was the last time you checked over you bike
More the the tyres and chain lube ?
Gave the triple a good look over as I was doing the brakes and checked the whole bike over and I need a boot up the arse. Cables loose , brake fluid low needed a little oil (a drip but still ) and rear tyre due in 1000kms ( knew about it was due but hadn't checked ) oh and don't over the bolts as a snapped bolt is a pain in the arse to tap out and fix .

It's fun to ride but I miss the shear grunt of the GSXR. The SV is better around town though for the moment. I miss having a fairing though on the highway.

I may end up trading this in for something else next year for summer. I need someone a bit more touring oriented with more leg room. Thinking Kawasaki Versys or a VStrom perhaps. Will keep ya posted.

Hey all, hope you're winding down in the lead up to Christmas. Quite a mild winter so far here in Scotland. Not gonna get the white Christmas everyone was hoping for, which is fine by me!

I'm gonna be back in Auckland on the 19th of February for about a week for my brother's wedding. I'm gonna be going to one of the islands after that for a week before flying back to Scotland.

I'm keen to pop by a SASS night and hoping to go for a couple rides in between. Only problem is that I don't have a bike anymore, so if anyone has a spare bike or knows of someone with one that would loan it to me for a week let me know.

I'd be keen to set up temporary insuranceo or something for the week just in case. I've looked into hiring bikes but in the peak summer season the rates are pretty extortionate with 5 day minimum hirages usually.

Hey buddy! It's been a mild summer here so far too, though they keep warning us it'd be fierce. If you've got a green Christmas so far, must make you homesick, huh?

Hope to catch you when you're back!

Hey all, hope to be back in the new year when I hope life slows down a bit.

Random fact for those that ride in the country. On the little marker poles on the side of the road there will be orange reflectors on the poles to your right when there is a left hand turn coming up.

 Shush man. That's secret squirrel. Riding at night you use all the clever bits of the road markers to pick your line and the amount of arrows on the big yellow signs. If you can disregard road surface, which I have to, crap head light, then the road markers are a fantastic pointer. I've set some of my best laps, ahem, at night.

Well worth swatting up on roadside markers, they're not their for ornaments. Good point and post.

Get a trials bike.

Rad is loverly and clean, no carbs but im sure the Mc17 ones will bolt up fine, as the only changes between the 17 and 22 motors are the bolted on bits, and the 22 had a restriction built in to the carbs limiting it to 40hp, 28mm intakes as opposed to the 17 which had 45 and 32mm intakes

Heads have the same size inlets
