Good to hear ya bikes on the mend Mike.
So, the big question for me today is the bloody weather. I need to get home this afternoon, but riding in a one hundred year storm isnt something Ive set out to do on purpose.
Its been wicked up here in Whangarei, the rain I can put up with, but the wind Im a bit concerned about, especially when they closed the Auckland Habour bridge last night to two wheel traffic because a couple of bikes got blown over. Not sure if they were scooters or real bikes though. And I doubt I will be able to take the Paeroa -Waihi route as the gorge may end up closed, so Im picking I will have to do Matamata-Kaimai's
Any news about the Auckland to Tauranga run would be appreciated.

....the part i dont like in the Loop (and im speaking for myself here) is from Thames to Coro, well, until one turns inland that is!....:scooter: thats a sucky bit of road (two up)

I love that bit of road, it doesnt matter if your on a 250 or 1000 this bit of road is so tight its a similar pace for all. Its a bit rough in places but so much fun. I would love to do the loop again so let me know if you are going that way.

Well got home alright last night about 5.30pm, left Whangarei 12.50pm. The wind along the Rurakaka/Waipu straights was the worst. All the major state highway signs were blown out, and only their frames left twisted and empty. There must have been at least 10-15 mid-sized to major trees across the road through the night. The road looked like someone had dropped bombs on it with random craters for about 80kms, I nicked the edge of one I didnt spot, but fortunately was powering up and skipped over the top of it. There were people at the Wellsford Golf course on the other side of the road scratching their heads at an upturned shed that had obviously been blown off the course.
Copped a little rain but nothing major to speak of, but nearly got blown into a motorway barrier on the flats approaching the Bombay hills from the Auckland end. Got to say it was a real test of focus and awareness most the way home, but I was surprised at how solidly the prilly sat on the road in those strong winds. Its great to be back in the sunshine city, even if it is a little cooler.

Was also a statement about what this thread was like today and yesterday while you folks with working bikes were out riding.

But at least I managed to get a few things done, my bike is back together for the most part except for a way for me to get to the CDI plugs when I put that back in.

Also started the beginings of a new Vid to be completed sometime next week.

I'll have to try and get my bike on the dyno at some point...
As for being at the drags next weekend, that depends on how soon GPhonda can find the parts and on how well my knee i by then.
Can get around fine and even still go to work but bending it into riding position is a bit hard at the moment.

Jimbo humblely appreciative that you gave me the great honour of riding your beautiful ride on Sunday... nice mate. I know I said I would take it really easy, and as usual everyone overtook me, but quietly, combined with the fact Im getting better at the Kaimai's and I was feeling a particularly good rider on the day, I felt for the first time that I could have got my Knee down if I really wanted too, and your bike can certainly do it. Was good for me to compare "Apples with Apples", and your ride solidified my confidence in the Aprilia V-Twin, (dont tell too many people though, everyone will want one!! :innocent:) This is a bike to spend time on and mastering it, I think once we get anything close to that, we will permanently both be smiling.

I have had the pleasure of riding a mates SV650s around this week. It's so fun having heaps of power to pass quickly (and more safely imo) and get out the way of retards who try race you. Rode it from Aucks to Tga on Saturday in the rain and wind last weekend. Was so much fun even though my arms and my feet got wet after about gnaaatea and retards kept driving slow and there was oil all down the motorway and half way to pie-rower.

Jumped on my bike for a change this morning and felt like I was half sunk into the bike with ape hangers/on a trail bike of some sort. It took a few roundabouts to get used to its fun handling though. Wish it had a bit more zing so it would be MORE fun.

See you on Thursday, I'm ride the SV there cos it's loud and stuff.

Parts, labour, warrant and rego, probably a new set of tyres when the season is over.

But the reason I was looking at getting a credit card is for later on when I start modifications, can't buy from overseas with just an eftpos card.

My God, I think I found Utopia today :gob:

It came in the form of a ride to Coroglen with Unit, Bravo1 and Cajun. I haven't had a ride like that in some time and it was a real novelty to come home with that silly grin splashed across my face.

Although I didn't know the roads and hadn't been to Coroglen before, this ride was special because there was no pressure to ride fast and everyone could go at their own pace. OK, so I always lagged behind a couple of minutes :whocares: but I was too busy concentrating on getting the basics right.

As you're all aware, my confidence has been shot for the past 18 months so you can probably understand why I'm so excited to see my old self returning. The bike has only done 4,000km (and obviously I'm still learning how to ride it), and after today, I'm confident that I'll be able to ride it better than I ever did my VTR and GSXR.

Today's high point? Redeeming myself by flying up the Kaimais :first: For some crazy reason, Bravo1 thought I'd ride up there like a pansy - what's that all about? :bleh:

A pic to prove I got there:

Sounds like yous had fun! I would have been keen to follow you guys up there to the max. Let me know next time! I wont get in your way, promise!

I got some new boots and it took me ages to get my bike adjusted so I could actually change gear with them lol. Keep getting them stuck in the peg/gear leaver area. Big chunky things. Can't ride the SV with them on (don't want to adjust the levers and piss the owner off :innocent: )

Went for an afternoon ride and managed to find Naughtygirl (Leanne?) and Guzzi riding guy (Brett?) so I followed them and they kept trying to loose me with their superior speed. Naa they were riding normally and I'm just slow lol.

When I was going up the Kaimis I found my bike will only do 100. It can't physically go any faster at all :( I managed to stay at 100 the whole way though by some miracle, had it at full throttle 100% of the time to prevent me rolling back down. Gravity is a pain. Might go DOWN next time!

Where do you get those cams from saul? Need to hook one up to my bike so I can play it back at 2x speed. Cheaper than getting a faster bike! :D

Highlights for me.

Seeing a 12 and a 14 getting riden like they should be not only in the open but in the tight stuff:shock:

Noting that the council when putting up 25 -35 km signs up the coast actually mean somthing close to that. Rider beware.

Seeing BB have a go on the chainsaw. He looked at home pretty quickly.

Having a go on Red and seeing why it would be so easy to get caught out:shock: Big speeds feel like nothing and sooooooo comfy:)

Following the 12 believing that this guy must know the road really well to find out he that he didn't:monster28: lol

Edit: You should ride with Waylander. If you're restricted to 100 he might be able to keep up with you :bleh:

Yea I shouldn't be looking at the speedo reeealy, but I have enough time to make a cup of tea or write a book while going up there at my speed so may as well see what speed I'm progressing at lol.

If Waylander is following me, at least he'll know it's almost impossible to get a speeding ticked :innocent: hehe

What sort of tyres are you looking at mike? .... I put a BT45 on the rear of 250 I used to ride and found it great... Dual compound, hard center, softer edges... I used to commute on it as well, and found it great in the rain, but it really gave me confidence in the corners when on a coro loop etc... Just a thought for you. Go see Blue at Honda GP, she will give you a good price too :D

Back up here in Whangarei again this weekend, rode up Friday night and was a nice night for it. Looove my new heated handgrips, there the bomb. Had to go to Kaitaia yesterday for my sons soccer but I cheated and drove in the car. I think its another 200ks to Kaitaia from Whangarei so a lot of travelling for me this weekend. We drove up through the Maungamuka's on the way up. The road condition wasnt too bad, and Im now hanging out to ride that road, its an awesome piece of motorcycling road. One thing that I really noticed is the further north one heads, the rougher the roads are, you really have to be alert its not like the nice bling roads we get in the Bay of Plenty, but far less traffic around. Bring on summer
