Try Ulysses, it may be more suitable.

Life's too short to be pretentious and uptight. I'd rather just ride my bike than talk about RWHP, Kg and lap times.

I may be slow but I don't care.

Dear boring juvenile,

please define pretentious with regard to this forum.
Please define uptight with regard to this forum.
please explain why you think I should try Ulysses

So far all I've seen from you is a bitter, boring juvenile.

The_Dover
5th December 2006, 08:47
but yet here you are posting childish nonsense

maybe you SHOULD go ride your bike

I would if I wasn't flying a computer at work.

Dear boring juvenile,

please define pretentious with regard to this forum.
Please define uptight with regard to this forum.
please explain why you think I should try Ulysses

So far all I've seen from you is a bitter, boring juvenile.

Pretentious, ok, you think that it's more important to talk about bikes and how manufacturers mislead you with their claims and you sit here telling us WE are boring because we do not fit your ideals of a mature, intelligent "biker". Why is it you feel that your mature conversation is of more importance than anyone elses, juvenile, immature or otherwise?

pre·ten·tious /prɪˈtɛnʃəs/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[pri-ten-shuhs] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

characterized by assumption of dignity or importance.

Uptight, you seem unable to accept others sense of humour and shooting the shit amongst themselves. Are you Chris's brother or grandfather for fucks sake?

I think you should try Ulysses because you may find other grumpy old humourless wankers over there, but that IS a rather prejudiced assumption on my behalf (apologise to the Ulysses members I do know, who are not uptight). Either that or go back to China where you can be told what to think and how to behave.

Yeah, you are right, I am bitter and in your elitist and oh so mature eyes perhaps I am boring.

I still have a lot of fun in between outbursts though.

I am fighting for the right to be Jeuvenile. I'd hate to think I'd gotten old and boring - besides which my children would stop playing with me if that happened.

And I've only got 32hp...at the crank! And yet my bike still makes me smile. Does that make me a bad person too?

Nope, that was 1 thread. I'd rather talk about riding but this is a bike forum and many people are interested in things other than your boring, juvenile interjections. Besides, I guarantee that if I talked about riding you'd offer some other boring juvenile crap in reply.

and you sit here telling us WE are boring because we do not fit your ideals of a mature, intelligent "biker". Why is it you feel that your mature conversation is of more importance than anyone elses, juvenile, immature or otherwise?

I don't. It's you who is butting in on other people's conversations to add your juvenile masturbations. And I'm not saying the others are boring, I'm saying YOU are. As for your so called sense of humour, it comes across as if from a bitter juvenile. If you want to post juvenile humour that prints more as an ad hom than a relevant comment, don't whine when you get the same bullshit in return.

my Oxford NZ dictionary defines it as "excessive claims to merit".
what the fuck do you know about my experience that gives you any authority to claim I'm pretentious? It seems you're bitter about something; did a CB125 blow you away somewhere?

Uptight, you seem unable to accept others sense of humour and shooting the shit amongst themselves. Are you Chris's brother or grandfather for fucks sake?

As I said, if your so called 'humour' is nothing but juvenile ad homs and attacks on others, please expect me to return the favour and call you a juvenile boring tosser. If you can't take it, don't throw it.

I think you should try Ulysses because you may find other grumpy old humourless wankers over there, but that IS a rather prejudiced assumption on my behalf (apologise to the Ulysses members I do know, who are not uptight). Either that or go back to China where you can be told what to think and how to behave.

Grumpy? Looking back at tyhe posts that really seems to describe you to a tee. I haven't seen a single comment from you that could be described as positive.
Once again, if what you post is definable as humour but from the other side is seen as a juvenile ad hom, then sit back and wait to take it because I'm not afraid to return the favour.

Yeah, you are right, I am bitter and in your elitist and oh so mature eyes perhaps I am boring.

I still have a lot of fun in between outbursts though.

And so do I. However, when in a conversation some dork butts in with childish ad homs, I'll return the favour.

actually McJim, the conversation isn't about being juvenile etc; it's more about dover being happy to post attacks and drivel at others but whining when it's done to him.
if the last few posts are what he calls 'humour' why is he so pissed off when the very same is offered in return?

so to dover: if you want to post personal attacks (thinly disguised as humour) here and the board moderators are happy to let you, then expect the same in return and don't whine when you read them.
If you wanna take this further I'd suggest you tap me on the shoulder on a ride sometime, I'm sure it's boring the fuck out of the rest of the board.

Dude pull your head in, it wouldn't be Kiwibiker if The Dover didn't add his style of humor at the most inapropreate times.

Seems like I really push your buttons then doesn't it?

You can make all the judgements and assumptions you like, you're not the first and wont be the last. You seem hell bent on a bit of one upmanship, why? Did I really offend you with a "juvenile" comment somewhere? Or did daddy smack your bottom when you made a dick or fart joke and you've been "mature" ever since?

And for the record, the only person I'm ever bitter at being smoked by is boomer.

EDIT: Personal attacks? Do you have a really fragile ego or are you just very insecure about something?

Is it really about pushing buttons? As far as I can see you copied and pasted a 'published dry weight issue' post into the Thursday night ride thread coz no one paid enough attention to it when it stood alone as it's own thread.

I'd say you went off topic and you've left a veiled threat of violence.

I for one am completely unimpressed and underwhelmed by your behaviour. Thanks for playing - you are now ignored.

then you'd be wrong. the post was placed in both areas becaue I thought others might be interested. BTW, that was an orignial by me and not 'just a cut and paste'.
The three pages or so there and posts here seem to indicate that it was of interest.

I'd say you went off topic and you've left a veiled threat of violence.

Nope, dover tried to tell me to get off the subject, a quite valid bike subject. And that's not a threat of violence. As I said, the rest here probably find this really boring. If dover wants to keep at it he is welcome to do so in person.
If he wants to post his crap at me he shouldn't get upset when I give it back.

I for one am completely unimpressed and underwhelmed by your behaviour. Thanks for playing - you are now ignored.

Good, I'm quite happy to be ignored by you. If dover wants to ignore me too then that's even better. I for one don't ignore anyone.

No, just a real dislike of pompous wankers.

Give me shit about being slow, being a blouse, having a small dick, question my sexuality and masculinity, whatever. I wouldn't care.

But walk in here calling all and sundry juvenile, expecting to change the world and have others conform to your ideals and agenda and you will raise my hackles.

It's as simple as that.

idleidolidyll
5th December 2006, 09:54
yawn, that's enough of that boring crap.

For some time I've been thinking about NZ roads and just how unsafe they are for us bikers.
It's not just the tin tops, trucks, tractors and the Sharks (I'm told by a police officer mate that that's what they call traffic cops: they despise em):
one of our real problems is the road surface itself.

Years ago, after all roadworks had been finished, the contractor was required to sweep up the gravel and crap they'd left behind. Now it seems they have no rule that forces them to think of the single track vehicles on the road (m'bikes and bicycles). In some countries this kind of practice can be challenged in court as criminal negligence. Here in NZ however, the councils and transit NZ protect the construction crews from prosecution.

Given that we seem helpless in court but that this remains a problem, I've thought about carrying a can of flouro paint and marking the road before the danger as "criminally negligent road works ahead" or similar. This would warn m'bikes of the danger and all other road users would see just what dangers riders we face.
With the number of hazards we face every day riding on NZ's roads, I reckon that the number of these signs would be very very high indeed and that it would be much harder for the govt and transit NZ to ignore motorcycles and bicycles.

I'm keen to give it a go, any takers?

(yes, I AM going to post this in the general forum too)

Fair question. Nope, not because I'm trying to piss anyone off. I posted it here because I hope to get the thing started with the Thursday night ride. I'll bring my can.
It'd be too much of a task for 1 person to mark all the dangers but if a number of us could mark 1 or 2 each to start the ball rolling.............wouldn't that be a cool Thurs night thing?

2 seconds is a lifetime on a race track.
2 seconds every lap is the difference between 1st and 3rd to last

ahhahaha biach

lets get this in perspective;
what lap times did ya both do?

I think the fastest I've been round Puke in was many many moons ago on an 87 CBR600 long before the track renovations. 1 minute 9 point something high in the 2 hour. Rode with Mike Hogan as the other rider and we were well in the lead until Mike ignored our pit boards telling him to come in for a rider change. He ran out of gas at the hairpin 2 laps later and had to push.
Same year at Manfield it was 1'18.1" when the track record for 600's was 1'17.9", that was in the 6 hour and every time I got on the bike, Jason McEwen came out on his (Suzuki). We played like that the whole race. Both of us fucked up though. Our speeds meant not only a tyre change but a hot brake pad change too.
I think Richard Scott won that year doing 1'22"s or 1'23"s. My team got 3rd in class and Hippy's team blew it in the pits. In fact I think he won the 2 hour at Puke too doing the smarter slow times.

lets get this in perspective;
what lap times did ya both do?

In fact I think he won the 2 hour at Puke too doing the smarter slow times.

mate, i'm slow and i know it; i aint no racer, a gobshite yes but i don't race.

racing's not just about quick practice lap times anyway.
i've seen lots of people who ride real fast on the road but who choke in track traffic.
going around 1 corner fast is easy. going around lotsa corners fast is a lot harder but going around lotsa corners fast while trying to pass a bunch of bikes is something entirely different again.
i've been ragged on for following too close but that's just my nature and the nature of having a bike with half the horsepower of the bike in front. I reckon they should take it as a compliment 'cause I usually stay well clear of riders I don't trust.
Last weeks Thursday ride for instance: the young fella on the gixxer takes great lines and has big balls for a small guy. I was happy to follow him a bike length behind and happy for him to follow me similarly.

that said, there's room for all: there are no winners if there's no losewrs and even when you're not winning you should have fun doin it or you should sell the bike and buy a Volvo.

No I love the pretty 50mm stripes on either side of my rear tyre.

Maybe when I can get the steering head bearing replaced I can drop that down to a 25mm stripe.

But it does look pretty

maybe if I only wear out the centre of the tyre it will last twice as long?

Won't any of you join me in my crusade to rid(icule) the world of sycophants and precious thin skinned imposters living their motorcycle fantasies vicariously trough this forum?

yes, we all have those kinds of fantasies from time to time son. Most of us wake up and sigh as reality rears its ugly head. You seem to have perfected the knack of permanent fantasy: is it the P that does it?

BTW: did you flop out yr john thomas yesterday at work as promised?

Did your workmates run screaming from the room or walk by without noticing?

That's all pretty much all a motorway ride. Dai would be happy to keep his chickenstrips clean but others might want to scuff the edges a wee bit more.

Are there any other options?
Maybe a loop around Scenic Drive or Maramarua/Clevedon/Maraetai/Howick etc first?

Hehheh, the "old Brit thing" was probably a ruddy Manx Norton. Caviga would have been way outclassed. Won't speak for riders, but Anderson was near as good as they get.

an old one ickyone but just noticed.

Hugh's bike that day wasn't the Manx, it was a bitsa he'd built using a Norton frame and a BSA motor (I think). Someone else might know: Gracefield in about 1985, might have been the last ever race there.

Plus you're welcome to speak about the riders.
Hugh was a multiple World Champion, all I ever won were a couple of club series, some club/national BEARS and Jappa races, and my proudest moment: the BEARS Superstock limited class at the World Superbikes in '92' on my mates 750 F1 Duke because all the big bikes crashed (Roche presented me with my cup) aww shucks did I blush.

Anyway, Hugh was a true great and I'd never try to rate myself at his level, ditto for Crosby etc

As for you guys and gals though, you're all pansies.......tee hee :2guns::grouphug:

Those who are able to read and understand English already know that all three are basically pronounced the same way.
For the semi literate of your ilk, try to think of it as idle idle idle, that way at least you won't appear the fool you have recently.

Here's another English test for ya, it makes perfect sense and is eminently valid English in grammar and in meaning:

Steve is ZRXer.

I don't really care about people talking shit, it's all part of the experience. Any information that is essential to people should be easy to find, or, and this is a novel concept I know, just ask.

I'm not going to get pissy about people going off topic, that happens with conversations, be it verbal or written, and I'm as guilty as any.

Let's not take the fun out of everything by being fuckin netiquette nazi's.

I know that things are a bit strained at the moment due to the tragic weekend we've just witnessed but the ride will continue, people can talk bikes or talk shite, I don't care.

Yep did the ol'spectacles, testicles check ... new chain and sprocket c/o Colin from Papakura cycles (he put my bike to the front of the queue once he knew I was heading down for the funeral services and got the parts in ASAP).

I did the ol'oil change, tightened up the bolts and nuts, lube the moving bits, washed and polished the bling and knob (ooer!) bits, gave the electrics the once over, packed my bags ... and waiting for the 2am kick off time!

Took the bike for a quick blat out to town and back to get everything tickety-boo. I wish I was going down for other reasons, but some reasons are more relevant than others...

eek! Thanks for the reminder...need to check the tyre pressures too!

Will be wearing the ol'"Watch Out For Motorbikes" safety vest and avoiding Ninja assassin ducks :angry2:

However, Triclops is correct, it is pointless just going up the motorway SO

PLEASE

someone with a clue lead the group up thru Clevedon to Howick (either via Brookby or Maraetai) and onwards to meet the northerners at Hell or by the Mobil on Quay St.

Is that simple enough? Or shall I start a new thread, specially for tonight?

Where's the "usual place" ?

Clevedon->Howick is easy enough (Twilight Road ? Or direct through Whitford) depending on how much time. But from Howick to Quay St you'd have to pretty much ride right past Hells and then come back .

i was gonna say the same thing but given that i'm kinda out of favour at the mo, i might have been punished.

as a bike courier in pomgolia i managed to clock up 95,000 miles, yes miles, not those girly kilometre things, all in one year.

I was a long distance courier based in Caerdif and the bike was a Guzzi Monza 500.

As for almost 400km EVERY day here in NZ? Nope, I'm an ex courier, no need to waste my time and wear out my bike for groceries now. I ride for fun and that is just what I had last night.

Last week oldguy suggested 2 rides so we could split up the hard chargers and those who wanted a more liesurely pace.
I guess it might sound contradictory but I bought my 640 to go fast slowly and have carried that through with the new bigger supermoto. I'm incllined to more twisty roads with less long straights, those straights provide too much temptation to do way more than the speed limit.
