Pretty rough out there though. Never underestimate how soft manawatu riders are but still planning on showing the DVD which goes for just under an hour. Start around 730pm at meanies place. There will be cake, there will be pie, and should be a few laughs. See ya there. Leave the riding till next week.

It appears some of the locals spell "Biker" with a P. But a few of us hardy souls were there to go for an actual Friday night ride and we did. Thanks to Sarah's generosity I got to join them on the lovely Skippy, so it's true, you do meet the nicest people on a Honda! :) A quiet pootle over the track and back via the Saddle, we got blown about a bit approaching the track but it was actually a bit calmer over the hill, and the rain only threatened rather than delivering anything nasty, just a light sprinkle over the saddle.

Then back to Meanie's for the DVD extravaganza (and it was, Mr C Boyz applied every cheesy video transition known to mankind :P ) and then cake and sausage rolls. Sublime!

Thanks to Sarah's generosity I got to join them on the lovely Skippy, so it's true, you do meet the nicest people on a Honda! :) Most welcome mate, good to get both the bikes out for a run. I know how I got withdrawal symptoms when I wasn't able to get out on the bikes for a few weeks:yes:

I admit it was a bit weird seeing Sk1PY infront though, takes me back to the epic ride from Auckland all those years ago when Sk1py first graced these kiwi shores:love:

The rumors are true. I spoke to her on Tuesday
Helen is in hospital and is having an operation to repair her hip on friday
She apparently hit some loose metal going into a corner somewhere out the back of pahiatua and ended up in a ditch. It was on the radio news on Monday morning, i think they mentioned her getting air lifed out.
Not sure about the bike i have heard rumors about it being a write off but Helen seemed to think it wasnt too bad.
She is in ward 24 at PN public hospital if anyone wanted to know

Have just heard of this myself . Came over the track 2 weekends ago to have a look at her bike etc . Hope She is alright and that the Vmax lives to ride another day .

worlds most random day goes to me. Went to see how 86 was getting on and then went to parents for dinner. Come back past the supermarket and Mrs C wanted some things so called in. There was a ZX12 in the parking lot so had a look over it while she was in the shop. The owner come out and we started talking about it. Quite fond of it he was. I told him I had a 9 at home so we chatted a while and then he hands me the keys and tells me to take his bike for a ride. OoooooooooKkkkkkkkkkk.......... Its got some kit on it and sounds mint. Took it for a short blat up the road and back and was very very nice. Told him about the fri night rides so hoping he comes along for a bit of a ride next fri. Still not sure who is is or where he comes from and he doesnt know me from a bar of soap but he did give me his keys/bike/helmet.

Awesome turnout tonight, 20 odd bikes started out at Ashhurst, headed Ballance, Mangamaire, Eketahuna for cake. Dogs pillon was still smiling from ear to ear (this could be the start of a new rider)

We split into 3 groups, some heading back main road, some heading via back roads, and 5 of us (Dogs, CJ, Sarge, PaulC, and me) heading off to Masterton to deliver my daughter, stopped in to McD's for a bite to eat, then headed to destination.

Nice night ride home via the main roads.

One happy daughter (who kept wanting Dogs to go faster) deliver safely to Masterton.

And finally back on bike after a couple of weeks of not riding due to busy life.

Was also great to see Al out enjoying himself.........glad to see your recovery has you still smiling.

Your not on xtra slow xtra ordinary are you?
Well if the weather DOES clear enough I'm going riding tomorrow, I just need a little advise on riding 2 up. Do's and don'ts for us both etc. Apparently Al has found a cure for the pillons tiny butt sliding foward on the seat under braking. Something about a non slip rubber mat attached to the seat? Sounds like my swedish cover I had on the Jaded One.

Which Al? If it's me yep, I did find a solution with some non skid mat. Worked a treat. Nah, not on my pc at the mo, goddam dial up should be banned! Pillions? So much to know. Take it easy to start with, find out what they're comfortable with. Never take risks with them. Watch the extra weight, don't make them lean counter to what you're doing. Watch your braking distances. Communicate with them. Enjoy.

Hardly likely to be this Al, Al! My pillion solution was to remove the rear footpegs and get the pillion her own bike. Worked a treat!

that was my intention as well, I have even purchased the footpeg blanking kit and the single seat cowling from the triumph675.net site! And.... then.... I somehow got sidetracked by Joanna and even caught myself thinking how practical the plank seated 2up tourers like Yods and the 955's really were...

I know... WTF was I thinking!

On a serious note, its been funny how paranoid I have become since caving on the life long "no pillions" rule and letting her on the back. I ride alot slower, I have been sourcing a ton of gear for her and if she keeps riding, she'll end up atleast as armoured as me, more likely more so!

It would seem I have been a rather aggressive rider and riding smoother, more relaxed and courteously is actually not as natural or easy as I assumed it would be.
I'm having to think and plan more as opposed to just carving through stuff and reacting to what ever comes my way with my usual arrogant "I'll get through, I always do" attitude.

Interesting times ahead I think... and good times too.

tell your pillion to 'squeeze the knees' on your hips under braking, will help stop the family jewels connecting with the tank

slydesigns
5th March 2009, 23:00
hmmm so many problems with that...so many.
1. nice! but distracting, no?
2. I already ride with my nuts hard on the tank. I hate not having the contact sitting further back lacks
3. Distracting but nice...
4. Shes going to get mightly sore thigh muscles by rides end... not really ideal unless the day ends when the riding ends.
5. distracting...

The problem isnt me getting shoved into the tank, its more the fact I naturally sit so far forward and when she slides forward herself she nearly drops down into my seat cutout

Sounds like what you need is a Triboseat. Got one for my bike for when i have to put the rear seat on. And it works perfect.

Good stuff! Take it from me, you can never have enough armour  If I hadn't I'd have smashed up my knees and elbows as well.

Smoothness is the key to everything, both one and two up. Small subtle movements will make you better everytime, guaranteed. Takes practise and hard work tho. My bin was partly caused by being a bit rough on the bar and throttle input, that and a front tyre approaching it's end of life. Which brings me to another point. DON'T skimp on your rubber! The Pilot Roads I had on the Tiger were good, but they'd lost their best well before they looked like it.

Get hold of Sugilite and have a yak, you'll learn more in 5 mins than a year on your own

4500Hz (or a harmonic thereof) will be a resonance mode of the camera/ram mount system. Probably not the bike as such, or you'd feel it other times.

Great ride tonight, apart from the 2.5KM OF BRAND NEW CHIPSEAL. :angry2: Should have picked some of those chips up to fling at a certain Daytona pilot who suggested the Apiti loop (the little gold one, not the gorgeous big blue one of course!) Mind you, after clearing the gravel I did have a nice clear run playing catch up, was able to fang it a bit and quite enjoyed it. Even remembered the nasty tightening endless right-hander before I got caught out by it (like last time). :done:

Watch out for that 675 though - he says the Safety-Arm switches are for the ignition, but I reckon he's fitted rocket launchers under there somewhere. :)
