Realy enjoyd those rides out the back of woodville, hadnt been over there before. Awesome nnigt for a ride and plenty of others thought so too judging by the amount of bikes on the ride. Black stump was a little busy with christmas functions so food was out of the question there but got a drink anyway. Good to see some new faces again, even Yod managed to get the very shiny with slightly dented muffler blackbird out for a wee ride
Great night thanks all
And for those i dont catch up with before have a most awesome christmas and new year

Sounds like a minta.

It was a minta and I'd been wanting to check out Bonez's CBX, Monamie's Buell (worn paint on frame) and result from Yod's footwork! I thought of a couple of solutions for Yod's muffler!
1. Superglue your boot to the dent and give it a tug (reverse method).:D
2. Remove the skin, turn it back to front and relocate the badge?

All in all, it was a good ride with a pretty massive turn out. I'll have to get out on some more Friday nighter's!

Might go to Hawera, pretty boring but easy, then onto Stratford to dads, might check out the Stratford Plateau as dad is 5km from park boundary.

If anyone is riding down SH2 be aware of extra traffic due to races at Tehaurinikau(sp),lots of floats etc, especially after the races.

It was hot alright. Dogs had trouble with air being on the wrong side of the tyre. So 86, dogs and I did the loop again this arvo in the recovery vehicle. the daytona is sitting in my carport with a temp tyre on it and the holy one is ready to go for repair. Found out it takes ALOT longer to get around the apiti loop in a 4WD and trailer than it does on the bike.

hate to tell ya but burn outs and the like will not soften the tyre. All it will do it it kill the tyre quicker so you can replace it with something stickyier sooner. However, I know just the man for the job.

KiwiKat
2nd January 2009, 22:26
Who might that be?

I've done (edited 7500k) and probably got another 5000km left in the tyres at the rate they are wearing. No roughness at all. I think maybe a change as soon as the budget allows to some Z6's might do the job.

86GSXR
2nd January 2009, 22:29
I'll volunteer to try out the tyre KK

What a day. Just got home after thinking it would be all over in 2 hours. Must be a record even for us.

The Apiti Loop had proceeded swimingly until shortly before Kimbolton when following Dog's on the blue beast I noticed his rear looked a little strange.

Shortly after, the beast ground to a halt with a rather large flat spot. Luckily there was a house very convieniently placed and the occupants very biker friendly (can't have been the mad lady with the hotline lol).

Bike stashed in the shed and a quick pillion brief to Dog's and we were off.

104 kg makes a Tiger handle slightly differently but was having a jolly old time. Hit the twisties up toward Kimbloton when I hear some strange 'wind noise'.

Turned out to be Dog's screaming  Stopped at Kimbolton and explained that it's normal to lean if one doesn't want to end up down the bank

He settled down after that and we had a nice but breezy run into Feilding for coffee.

Picked up the Terrano and Meanies trailer and hit the loop again. Stopped at the Umutoi MC HQ for another Daytona and tie downs.

Here we were treated to the 2nd most funny thing of the day as Cowboyz pulled a lovely 12 oclocker which turned into 3 pm - on the scooter! :scooter::clap:

Onward to the next Daytona, lashed er down and back to Ashhurst for emergency surgery.

Great day out guys, total classic :wari:

5000k left? You hold the camera and give me the keys and we could cut that down by a tad.
You could try reducing tyre pressure gradually till you get a feel for what is better. I run pirellis at 36-38 but michellins at 40-42. Havent run any dunlops. The lower the pressure the more grip you will have availiable (laymans theroy here for all those who want to jump in with why a bike wont corner with 2psi in the tyre) but the quicker the tyre will wear out.

The hammer and bounce thing never happened, the tyre came off quite well actually. Interesting to hear that Michellin's are very easy to change in relation to some others.

I would recommend a set of Pilot Road 2's for the Kat.

It'll be difficult to make a decent comparison now that two up is'nt really on the cards but i'll will be interesting to see for sure, one would say it would be natural that you would'nt get the same milage.
Big difference in horsepower over the RF.

Alright I GET THE MESSAGE. Pilot Road 2's - I have read the reviews. Thanks guys. Now to reorganise the priority list.

Friday Night - Ride with Matt. (Racey, screaming, borrowed naked 250 cbr)

Met Matt at my house after Tea. We went and explored some awesome riding roads with neat views. Onepuhi / Porewa Road, Leedstown Road, Mt. Curl Road (Hunterville to Marton) which turned into shingle uphill into the sun with quite a bit of wind so we turned around and came back through Tokorangi and Makino Road. I must try Mt Curl Road from Marton end one day soon.

The eyes take a bit of adjusting to the long dusk. A good opportunity to try out the Katana headlights on bends etc. but still not quite dark enough. More night rides req. over the next few weeks.

The Katana back wheel was all over the place and slid on a couple of surface changes, bridge entry etc. I know it has a slow leak (must work out where I put my tyre gauge).

Turned out to be Dog's screaming  Stopped at Kimbolton and explained that it's normal to lean if one doesn't want to end up down the bank

cry baby that would of been funny to see

Here we were treated to the 2nd most funny thing of the day as Cowboyz pulled a lovely 12 oclocker which turned into 3 pm - on the scooter! :scooter::clap:

Speaking of suspension changes, are there many people on here that are clued up on this in the palmy area? I've done nothing with mine other than check it's all on factory settings and I'd like to do at least the preload/sag setup for my body weight and maybe more needs tweaking.
I wouldn't exactly call myself an advanced/fast rider so don't want to fiddle too much but would just like to make sure things are 'right'.
It feels a little firm. Just one of those things on my 'to do list'!

Be interesting to see what Yod & Meanie have to say about the South Island roads - I know they have the same problems in some places but generally the roads down there are in much better nick than up here.

Personally I think that we must use crappy tar with a low melting point - probably easier & cheaper to use but how many accidents does it cause. It was a bit of a worry in places yesterday: we could live with the buggered tar but some of the fine metal/sand in places was hard to spot.
