Ok, last but not least! This was a blast:

Agreed, it's the bit I like the best too. Always enjoyed more open flowing roads rather than the stop/start tighter roads.

Hey thanks for all making Joanna feel welcome and not an outsider last night team. I was a little blown away by the openness and relaxed attitude you all had by the time we hit Murphy's. :gob:

Seriously... thanks.

I've just ordered a proximity radar system and xtra triple phat mirrors as well...

She seems really nice and I am glad the idea about the pillion seat helped you both out

She told me you need to stop worrying and that she is really enjoying herself on the rides so the technique is obviously getting better.

Good on ya, you deserve some fun mate

that wasn't the moment I pulled out on monie was it!

edit: Yep it was just watched that sequence a few times. Not good. I was too busy wrapped up with trying to ride smooth, relax and get used to having a pillion and I was forgetting all the basic stuff, like line choice, following distance vs reaction times with the extra weight and most importantly, where the hell everyone else was around me!

Sorry Mon and just glad the VFR has such brilliant brakes.
thats fine i still like you ...

Yea i'll say, by jove a certain VFR rider certainly likes that stretch of road..
was this me na could not of being... lol

i assume they're talking about the vinegar hill/halcombe hill loop which would go something like this

http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Napier+Rd&daddr=Colyton+Rd+to:SH+1+to:SH+1+to:-40.300214,175.745888&hl=en&geocode=Fe4Wmf0dJLJ5Cg%3BFUyEmv0dz5t3Cg%3BFb7fm_0d uKt0Cg%3BFQTOnv0dGuZ3Cg%3B&mra=mi&mrcr=3&mrsp=4&sz=13&rtol=0,1,2,3&sll=-40.264988,175.705032&sspn=0.091299,0.153809&ie=UTF8&ll=-40.126391,175.635681&spn=0.731891,1.230469&z=10

roads are all good condition - whether the distance is ok is up to you

Yeah, distance is HUGE for a friday night ride
Had'nt actually considered coming back though Halcome but now you mention it....
I was thinking of doing a u-turn at the top of V.Hill and coming back the way we came with a refreshment stop at either Cheltenham, Feilding or Ashhurst. The only thing I would really have against returning back through Halcome would be the stint on SH1 but it definitely not a deal breaker for me anyway.

An option is to head back through vinegar hill then flick right and take the fun roads out the back of Halcombe, Missing SH1. Sly :scooter:knows them intimately.

Yeah that's a thought but we don't need the route getting too compicated, just opens the door for people to lose their way. If Sly does'nt get his electrical shit together he might not be at the FNR...

this is on topic. there cant be a more ontopic topic for the fri night ride than banoffie and pies!!

weather looks to be on the improve from now. Vhill halcombe is definitely a go, we have done it a few times on the fri night ride, the only question is which way round? Vhill first or second. I vote going chelthenham to SH1 way over Vhill. it flows better that way and sun will be at our backs.

I agree with the the pony rider, Vhill to back this way works better at that time of the day.

I got mine 2nd hand and pretty cheaply (via KB). My mate got one from http://www.challengermotors.co.nz/ and also got a good deal. They are not cheap but come with a heap of goodies: bike mount, car mount (with built in speaker), wall charger, wiring for bike & car, mapsource software etc. The mate mentioned above tried using a car one in a waterproof mount first but ended up getting the zumo too. Awesome gadget!

PS: a lot of info on KB about GPS options for bikes

would love to be there were it not for a couple of issues the british seem to cause.
1. Ok I caused this one... my electrics adventures continue with both my headlights burning out within about a minute of eachother last night while jetting down a dark and cateyeless James Line. Nice.

My HID's are in customs so I'm going to have to find some bulds as in interim. H7 low beams are at RIPco for $26 - all good
H9 high beams aren't - not so good.

2. The fantastic handling of the 675 comes in part from cheating by the factory. They have fitted barely roadlegal race tires to it! So my 2500km tire life seems about right now. Replacement cost of a Pirelli Supercorsa Pro SC 180/55/17 is.......... $560 plus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awsome ride chaps and chapesses. Nibbles and a natter at Murry's topped it off.

Just one thing to remember-we are all riding as group and setting an example for other riders, some new to riding. Dodgy overtaking of cars( i know we've all done it at some point) is not cool and the last thing we want on a group ride is to scrape someone off the road.

Reminder - KKs ride from Feilding on Sunday. Have a good weekend all.

Sounds like a plan.

The Diablo is no where near as sticky as even the worn down SC Pro but after 3 HUGE almost highsides and one monster tank slapper all in the space of 2 kms, I'll take it as a lesson learnt in riding a little calmer and with a little more throttle finesse. I'm no church goer, not anymore BUT I am superstitious (I race after all - goes with the territory) and I think I just got the back of my head slapped by what ever is watching over me with amusement. Each of those incidents should have ended in the weeds and/or A&E, to make it though 4 is a gift.

So... tires been changed, undies been removed from my butt, brains been rebooted.

Hey guys, do any of you know about the blue Honda VTR1000 at Anza? I spoke briefly to a guy there bout the bike and he said they've had for two years trying to get rid of it. Price is $8,000 so it aint expensive so wondering if there's any bad history to the bike.

Marvelous  Getting the pins out of my hand tomorrow, so depending on how painful that is, I'll either be on the back of the Buell or the front of a Daytona, either way, should be good!

Yeah, might be worth asking about it. My mate had a look at it but I can't remember the story on it - he bought from City Honda in the end. I do remember it having a very 2nd hand looking front tyre at some stage...

Actually Horse, I beleive, as your well aware, that there is a piece of legal documentation with clearly overrides ones right to show up to this "public" ride, if a certain condition is met.

In my case having no electrics also precludes this from being a ride I can do. I just can't be assed pedaling that fast on the spare bike and Bonez has pillioned me enough.

or on a more serious note, why don't we split the rides into fast twistie lovers and the cruisers. As Al, Lance, myself, yod, sarge, Owl etc fit into the first group and , Horse, sarah, the learners, the average two up riders etc may wish to fit into the second group, all problems will be solved.

Still meet up at Ashurst as one group, with lots of people around, then say our hellos and goodbyes and go ride - and enjoy the riding.

Those that float between the groups can still do so, and this means all can still ride with thier friends without anyone being put under any undue duress as they can choose to go to the OTHER group. Should they be followed by circumstances that still cause duress, it will be pretty obvious to all present, and can be actioned or documented as required. No stress.

Honestly I have no probelms riding with either party and enjoy the company when on 2 wheels, but fail to see the necessity of having to ride with both at the same time. Its like chaining a dog up then beating and torturing it. The dog can't run away, it can't fight you either as your just out of reach. Hardly fair. Why do it at all. Unless you want to see the dog broken...

Its a simple plan that keeps everyone safe, avoids brain fade crashes and lets everyone avoid or enjoy watching me pull out on people thoughtlessly for one thing.

Special condition in 'documentation' allows attendance on all public posted rides. As discussed yesterday in the prescence of court appointed professional the two involved parties have no issue with this an we both have documentation to prove it.

please, the bikes are weapons that can and will maim and kill when we get sidetracked. I should know with my history of bins and injuries.

Thats the point of all this, sort it now, ride tonight clear headed and in the right headspace, make it home and get tanked.
