mowgli
8th August 2009, 08:53
and video number 2 is just as awesome

Those are awesome! What camera did you use? I like the way you let 86 and Sarge get away so we can appreciate the road without the clutter :Punk:

cowboyz
8th August 2009, 08:56
yeah.. I cut out HOW they got away!! actually, it is the kinda road that only lets a couple of bikes pass cars at a time. thats my excuse and I sticking to it.

Camera is the same oregon scentific but scrapped the mount and stuck it on the fairing with duct tape. cuts out vibration and works heaps better.

mowgli
8th August 2009, 08:56

yep...................
Well if you guys don't mind me tagging along...

What are the roads out there like? Plus are there fuel stops in that area as I wonder if my thirsty beast would last the distance :D

If you guys are going though Dannevirke I might stop there and head back.

cowboyz
8th August 2009, 09:12
do it! be good to see more footage out there

banditrider
8th August 2009, 09:15
Get gas at Danniverke and you'll be fine.

Elysium
8th August 2009, 09:17
Well I'm going to take the baffels so I can see if the bike runs better that way as I have no idea if the jets were configured with the baffles in or out.

Had a minor mis-fire yesterday so maybe its running a bit rich.

bugger, morning from hell! Someone backed into the D675 and broke the rear plate hanger. Thanks to Transag for the use of their tools and Welder its back up and running but then I found I'd dropped my wallet while on the bike. Turned up at the police station!
So its now 1537 and I still havent been for a play on the bike yet. Hopefully in 30mins after I walk the dog with Maria... maybe I can make them run it and be done in 15mins...!

Me and Maria are thinking of heading to the beach after launch though if anyones bored.
Once I finish at work this morning I'm heading for a quick blast over the track and balance/saddle before lunch with a guy from marton. Meeting at BP Fitzherbert at about 10.45-11am

left Wanganui heading out Okoia road up to Fordell out to main road to Turakina then headed towards Marton down Bruce road up Turakina valley road then back to Fordell via the Fordell/Hunterville road and back to Wanganui

Melissa was a little nervous so did some baking while I was out :innocent:

Over all it was a great ride I really felt at ease and at home on those back country roads alot like Pohangina valley east road encountered 4ks of gravel and the bike never felt as if it wanted to let go

Had a play with the FlyCamOne2 this afternoon. The attached photos show the camera mounted and the power supply I had to bodge since the built-in battery seems to be shot. The small switch on the corner of the supply starts and stops recording. It was a real duct tape affair but worked nonetheless.

Unfortunately USB1.0 + P1600 + crappy upload speed means I can't share it with you right now

Elysium
9th August 2009, 20:58
It does kinda make your bike all nerdy looking :bleh: Well I could be jelious as I have no cam.

mowgli
9th August 2009, 21:06
Yeah, fair call. The power supply should be in a box and concealed beside the speedo. Black Danko tape would make a big difference. It worked better than expected for a first attempt.

cowboyz
9th August 2009, 21:15
nice . where is the recording from?

mowgli
9th August 2009, 21:19
The vid's from Turitea Valley Road but it was gonna take over an hour to upload and the interweb ground to a crawl.

cowboyz
9th August 2009, 21:37
If you DivX it it will drop the filesize dramatically and youtube (if your not using HD) is crappy enough quality not to be able to tell the difference.

Hour upload seems pretty quick though.. takes me about 2.5 to upload 10 mins. which is about 60Meg DivX'd

mowgli
9th August 2009, 21:45
What app do you use to do the conversion and is it free?

cowboyz
9th August 2009, 21:51
I use womble DVD editing. It is a commercial program but for bike vids I tend to just throw it through and cut out the boring bits and add a bit o text here and there. Its awesome if you want to get really into the edits though

mowgli
9th August 2009, 22:18
Nice one. I've used VirtualDub to strip the audio and re-encode as DivX5.2.1 for a about a 85% reduction in filesize. Uploading now. Should take about 20min.

seriously for a minute. the loop is 200k. half of it is highway riding where you can expect to average 85k/hr. apiti section you can expect to average about 55/60k/hr so 3 hours should cover it. then there are the coffee stops!

They laughed and told her to ride it home. She wasn't kidding though as she got 5 meters and dropped in turning out of ANZA's!

Weather is the next concern dude.. :argh:

I'll go out on a limb and say the weather is going to be fantastic.

Reason: I'm going with the opposite view to the Met service, as they're usually wrong.

he broke it.... badly. Wanted a truimph too much and was daydreaming entering a corner at 4am. Slowing and turning the corner slipped his mind, closely followed by the front wheel. Least thats the version he yelled to me and Maria when he limped into the Celtic. Was hard to hear that night.

It took a hit when I dropped the bike over a year ago, but wasn't picked up until the 20,000km service.
Maybe I'm just too hard on it, as it snapped the ball off the gear shaft mount leaving the thread inside.

Pics show previous damage i.e. Bent linkage shaft, impact on lever and the last is the ball that snapped off.

I also heard the bike is cursed, just like Christine, the bike just reappears in the bike shop after another owner has had it. ;)

The stunningness eminating for the liquid silver machine will draw him to it as soon as he steps foot in the shop...

In all seriousness though the Z1000 is a nice bike, very very small though.

I also heard the bike is cursed, just like Christine, the bike just reappears in the bike shop after another owner has had it. ;)

You at this cursed angle again... It's no more cursed than your bike or any other... You should have taken it for a ride when you were looking at bikes, you'd be riding a liquid silver FZ1 right now and you'd "understand". <_< :bleh:

BTW, who's this Christine? Is she hot?

Guess that would stand to reason as even with all the crash knob gear would have hit the levers anyway ?

Not quite sure if it's closed or not, but there's a couple of decent cafes in Woodville now if it is.

We're up for a ride tomorrow if there's one. The Apiti Loop sounded like a good idea, will check back later.
