Yeah true that, i'd just like to have a squize at and maybe a pootle on one of these Spyder's while the opportunity was there, apparently they're have 6 of them available for test rides over the weekend and since the Cliff hanger is running this weekend too i'd head over the hill and check that out on the way back.

Just a plug for Sunday -

FEILDING RIDERS CLUB - 1st Sunday Ride
Start time 10:00am 15th March, finishing early afternoon.
Leaving from Feilding Railway Station

All makes welcome - Experienced, newer and returning riders welcome

Not sure of final route as I'm not sorting it but proposal is to head up to Rangiwahia and across to Mangaweka. May take detours off SH1, heading through backroads including Marton, Turakina, back to Murray's home base.

Brent who rides a Beemer will be leading. Also expecting a couple of Guzzis.

Ok leaving BP on Fitzherbert at 8:30 (so you need to be there 'round 8:00 to talk shit) going through Shannon to SH1 on to Paekakariki over the hill to SH2 and down to Lower Hutt (Alicetown) to TSS. Hopefully get a squirt on a Spyder pretty quick smart, if you are interested in doing the same it would a good idea to rind TSS (04 569 3989 Extension 3 for a salesperson) and book a time as close to 11:30 as possible.

Once all that's out of the way head back up over the Rimutaka's to Gladstone and stop in for a look at the Cliff hanger hillclimb (if it's not too late in the day) and from off back to Palmy (or where ever home might be) via Alfredton or the main drag depending on the level of fatigue.

I seem to recall being roped in to supervise the honda riders for the afternoon.

Nearly got my GLC card renewed as I hit very large patch of gravel midcorner and front went west. Had a really close look at an oncoming car and got the heart racing a bit. Bike gods decided that I dont deserve any more time off and made it out without hitting anything. NFMS.

The ride however, was a slice of fucking mint. Nice pootle.

300kms of quite casual riding all up today is just the ticket to finish the week. Or is that to start it?

Good to see Horse and Sarah too. They do put womens facilities in some weird places out in banjo land don't they?

they had one about 40yrs ao.

Due to the demand, another has been scheduled for nov 2147

yod
15th March 2009, 19:23
no, they do NOT bank

you try to lean into the corner and then realise it's all very wrong and wonder what the hell is going on and exactly which part of the pavement you're about faceplant into

once you let yourself go with the err....bike/car? (edit: and remember to turn the handlebars), you essentially sit straight ish but let your weight (and the grip) go to the outside front tyre

ABS, traction control, foot brake only (3 discs, stops on a dime), 990 Rotax engine, heaps of torque, choice of a tiptronic type jobbie or a manual, a couple had the after market exhaust and they sounded superb

No, as I suspected it was a escorted test ride which was fine by me as my sense of direction SUCKS!
They don't bank into corners, Yod put it together best, weight you're outside peg and push the outside handle bar seemed to work best, at least for the limited time we had.
Hyper sensitive steering at the on centre position and slightly touchy brake made it difficult to be smooth but I guess you'd get used to that. Very comfy and ride pretty well.

Shame I missed it - would have been quite keen to have a wee ride on something pretty different. When is the "Ride a Ural" day?

Well it just so happens al, the bikes ready, was the sort of fault they found and repaired while diagnosing it. Adjusted headset and balanced front wheel and is running on all.

Will advertise the RF but still use it till I go.

Leaving Ashhurst Mobil about 10 am and going up highway 50 for anyone interested in coming for a ride, but be warned we wont be stopping every turn off, may stop in Vegas to pick up Sarge if hes coming otherwise right through to Napier, you may stop all you like on the way home

Awwwwsome road in from either end is is ok but the "Public rd" or "PUB IC ROAD " as one sign said in the middle linking the wind farms can only be discribed as a "PUB IC GOAT TRACK". Nothing a road going single could'nt traverse of course ;). Ruts and holes so big trials riders would be proud of, pond crossings- too big to be called puddles, the odd slip. Well worth it to give one an idea of how vast the wind farms actually are and a very nice veiw of the Manawatu. The mist on the other side looked like it stretched to Dannevirke and to at least to Alfredton with hills popping there peaks out of it. I'll take the camera next time. Real uncanny expereince coming down to just by the "Cafe Over the Bridge" at Ballance. Hills disappering and a windmill looking like something out of "War of the Worlds". Funny how is signed posted as no exit from that end.

Ended up doing SH50 on the way up where we caught up with Robertydog and gixxer4eva and had a feed at the famous chook and filly. (this is about where the wave for bonez to stop got interpreted as a wave to carry on. We are going to blame Banditrider for that one cause he wont be around for a week or so.
The <s>bastards</s> friends who are doing the southern cross headed off to do their thing and we went round to middle road and then to pangatata and on to waipa and down the main road home.

Was a goody alright the two singles got to Taradale waited(there was mention about lunch there at the 50 turn off). Check of cellphone bugger!! No sign of life in it. Waited a bit. Oh well, maybe theiy've gone to Napier.
Brmmm Brmmm. Nope. Oh well back to Taradale then. Nope. Ah well, lunch at mackers then. Ok.

After a quick lunch of back we went via some pemo winding country roads. Thing where a bit nippy so stopped to warm up then off to Ormenville via Norsewood. A rum and a natter and leg stretch later we mounted the humble beasts brmm brmm. Alignment of Uranus must been spot on as Lance mentioned we bumped into the other lot at Dannivagas then off home with the Scorpio breaking off to see the Yods.

Came home with a smile so it must have good. Bring on the next one.

A side note- Coming home I passed two car incident. One taking out a power pole about a km from town and t-bone at the Vogel/main Str intersection. Be carefull out there.

Could'nt have been better really Sarge. Had a feeling we'd bump into the main group again. And that we did. Pleased everyone made it home ok.

that accident still there. Mother-in-law brought kids home at 3 and past the accident site. She was just telling me about it. Over 2 hours and its still there is not a good look. Aparently it is a real mess.

twas the mintiest of mint days!! The nerves were quite high as we met up with the group at mobil, but once on the road they subsided and started to get into the rhythm. Stopped at the chook and filly for a superb lunch. Said our goodbyes to the boys off to have their little jaunt around the countryside!
Headed into havelock north to fill up. Lucky for me we did as I had left Norman on reserve! Yikes!! Then off to the famous middle road, same as you owl was my first time and I loved it, was a bit concerned about holding the ladies (who were nice enough to stay rather than go play!!) up. Awesome bit of road that. Loved it.
Did I say that I loved it???
Stopped off at a pub that was in the middle of nowhere!! Cant remember the name sorry, wrists and hands were getting a little sore by now. Carried onto waipawa and got spat on a little!
On through waipakurau, here on I knew I would be hitting a head on wind so ended up just pootling on to Dannevirke for a hot coffee to warm the hands and meet up with bonez and Leonie!!
Awesome ride! Awesome company!!

Extremely minty slicey wicey of a ride with a sprinkle of awesomeness on top for good measure :ride:

The golden beauty behaved herself very well I thought. Good team assembled at Ashhurst to see off the lads who are doing a wee ride.

Good to see young Norman and the Scorpy patanging along quite nicely I thought.

Brief stop at Ongaonga for the girls, and was most impressed to see the Buell pull a very competent manoeuvre :gob: good lord, Monamie has kept those skills rather quiet  Cowboyz will have some competition soon

Nice run to the Chook and Filly and very pleasant catching up with a few of the HB crew but losing a couple of ours in the process

Sweet, sweet run through Middle Rd (wasn't me, honest) and a quiet bevvy at Patangata.

Straight line to Vegas for coffee and then a good run back, Monie displaying impressive skills :niceone:

Must figure out what those lines on the gorge mean one day, but always fun.

Lesson of the day:
If many bikes are parked on the side of the road and everyone is pointing to the cafe' across the road.......it means stop,drink,eat:clap::dodge: (though I thought they were just waving too:yes:)

Mark & I are parked up in Inglewood and by now Meanie should be in his bed in Stratford. Had a great ride up to Gisborne yesterday, have shot some video on HW50 and on the devils elbow too. FMS!

Today started out drizzly & cold and had wet roads all the way to the Cape. 130 bikes of all sorts at the cape - including a boss hoss v8. Dry roads from the cape back and only incident was a dude crashing a R1150GS right in front of Meanie & I. He had panicked, grabbed some front brakes and tossed her away into a fence. Luckily he was ok and had his 2 sons with him although doubt the beemer is going anywhere.

Really slow through to Rotorua - got stuck behind a cop for a while although Meanie zapped past him ok. Awesome ride through to Bennydale then took in some back roads before hitting awakino gorge, Mt Messenger etc. FMS.

Roast chook for tea at my sisters - FMS.

As yod said it was mint. Was being the operative word. It was fine heading up the takas but down the other side, yip, u guessed it, back to wandering little suzi.

Turned around and headed back cos I wanted another blast over the hill in the reverse direction but now looks like I'm going to have to do head bearings.

Pity the shop didn't pic that up the first time round, the tutor at tech said it might be time to get them done but tightening them that tightvwouldnt have helped.

Not quite, but the pie at Pongaroa was nice. Gary indulged himself with a Pongaroa burger. A quiet pint at the Dudley Arms was a nice way to end it.
Nice.

Kimbolton to Mangaweka - Never been that way before but bloody Loved it, loved it loved it:laugh::woohoo:

Vinegar Hill - Never heard of it until reading about it on here but bloody Loved it, loved it, loved it:woohoo:

IMHO you've probably picked two of the best roads to ride in the manawatu, nice.

Excellent stuff, remember we were all learners once, some of us are still learning.
It was great to have you out with us. You were not an anchor at all.

I am a learner & still learning  something someone said when I first started riding .. there is something to be learnt every day on a bike ..sorry can not remember who said it .. but its been true so far

we have all been where you are T and understand the journey :) please do not think you stopping us from having fun .. we enjoy all aspects of riding & esp helping new riders like yourself get out there & have fun too

I concur. You NEVER stop learning on a bike and it's a lifelong journey

The most important thing you can possess while riding is the computer between your ears. It takes time to programme it properly. Be aware of your environment at all times, learn the right lines, and most of all, enjoy!

Cheers everyone.

I did have fun, and feel a bit better each time. Not happy about my calf Muscle now though (don't know what I did) but I am feeling it real bad. Definitely not ride fit. :crybaby:

Went for a ride up that way today, so I thought I'd introduce myself and just say how lucky you guys/gals are to have such nice roads to clock up the ks with.

Just like to say thanks to all the regulars on here, if it wasnt for you I'd still be riding up and down SH1 from Levin to Welly

Cheers.

Well done for coming out for a decent pootle Rich :2thumbsup: , next time give us a shout beforehand by post or pm there is always somebody keen for a pootle :ride:. Even fun using the wets occasionally. We have an awesome area to ride in thats for sure and every time we go out new little back roads to explore
