nope cant VIN the bike until a new De Reg cert turns up from Canada and then I have to catch the VTNZ guy so he can do it.

In the mean time it seems a waste that it sits gathering dust and the ex needs her spare plate back

By all account's it looks like it's gonna be ok on the east side today so I was thinking to myself I might go see a in Hastings so I thought it'd be rude not to say something....
Forecast is for morning rain clearing and sunny there after.
Thought it might go a little something like this:
Vegas BP at 10:45 leave maybe 11 to 11:15 head straight up SW50 to Hastings and if anyone was coming along they could go have a longish lunch somewhere (maybe somewhere like 'round the Iron pot in Napier) for say an hour to an hour and a half, then we could meet out in Havelock Nth and perhaps come back through Middle road and stop for refreshments at Patangata and so on...

Warning: Only going if it clears up, moody here at the moment but if the weather forecast is worth anything i'm hoping a call could be made 'round 9-9:30ish..

bonez went past about 40 mint agoGood eyes. Put up a few bits of jibboard then Connie let me off the hook.Thought I'd go and see how dad was doing. Sarge was long gone, I think. Popped over to Napier just till kill time till it visiting time at the hospital thinking I may bump into John or at least spot his bike. No luck so off to see mum in Havelock North. Saw Dad. He was a box of fluffies and is being shifted to the rehab ward tomorrow. Did a wee job on dads van and headed off down Middle Rd. A few bikes at the Patangata Pub but no ZX14 so of I toddled to Waipuk back road to Takapau then Ormondville for a beer. Getting on so decided to do Te Uri Rd and pop in to Sarges just in case he was back home, via the long gravel stretch ;). Surprised how well the CuBix handled the stuff. I had a natter to his dad for a good half hour then off home via Dannevages/Oringi(sp)/Hopelands. All n all a good days riding.

I'm sure I saw Andrew on the VTR heading towards Dannevagas on the way back.

Bloody good of ya to pop in mate, very sorry I was'nt here to see ya. I was still in Hastings at that point and i've just arrived home.
Left Vegas 'bout 11:10 according to the clock on the bike and headed through 50 to Dooly's place, shit it's a stunning view across the way to Hasting from his place, had a chin wag with Dooly and R-Dog for a while then made a move into Hastings, rode into the Stortford BP where R-Dog and I continued to chat about all things bike and wot not, parted ways with R-Dog and shot 'round to my mates place just 'round the corner and had a good ol' yarn there before heading home.
Now to sit down with a cuppa and watch some Superbike's that I recorded along with Top Gear and so on.
Good day.

ok. I am starting this thread for organised rides in Manawatu.

This thread is for requesting/organising rides ONLY.

No shit talking. No discussion on anything else. Take it here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=55645&page=261) to discuss ride reports or talk shit. This is only for ride dates, times and routes and to say if you are coming or not.

Keep it tidy and it will be alot easier to keep track of.

Cheers.

BTW. dont even think of replying to this saying it is a good idea or not. If you post in this thread it has to have a date/time/route or be commenting on a suggested change of plan or suggestion.

as you were.

Just took my first pillion for a ride (now known as my Bike Bitch:whistle:).
Started off on the wet, gravel driveway into the wet, gravel road...not a problem. On to the main road I was thinking shite, shite I sooo don't want to do this...was waiting for the bike to get thrown around a bit and do weird arse things....but it didn't:2thumbsup

Observations:
1. The Uly rides and handles very well with more weight.
2. I can touch the ground with a pillion:eek:
3. When the pillion gets off the Uly...remember I can't touch the ground:confused:

Conclusion:

I went out over saddle to blow some cobwebs out tonight. The saddle is a shocker right now (which should have been expected) Alot of sliding round which is probably what I needed but didnt give me a whole lot of input on the new bike setup. Gorge is better but not by much.

Bike started spluttering coming over the bridge and being already on reserve I rolled into home with the bike cutout.

I'm sure there will be literally hundreds of volunteers so I won't bother throwing my hat in the ring...

Well, I wiped out a flock of birds this morning, now the gold is more blood than gold. bird parts everywhere and one of them must have clipped the wiring loom as now my indicators and horn or no go ornaments!

Hopefully have it all sorted for the friday night ride FINALLY as I then have to take it with my first pillion to the "slipway" in Wellington on Saturday morning to learn to Drift the Quest Industries/TRD Supra. The guys have offered me a full days playing with gas and tyres provided to say thanks for all the late nights spent on it over the last year! And they're letting my pillion Joanna have a go aswell - a girl driving 600bhp... she shows me up I'm handing over my man card!

Anyone wanting to tag along for a ride to Wellington let me know

Will also try to make the sunday ride if possible.

Actually, there were none! Fuck it. It had enough gas left in it to start the bike and then get to the top of the driveway and that was it. One would think I would get quite good at pushing this bike by now but was still huffing and puffing by the time I got to the servo.

well it was an "interesting ride" on sat

needed to get to palmy to give BB the once over before heading away next week for a 6 day ride fest. The rain did not bother me but wind n rain together thought this would be interesting .. uneventful quiet ride up .. directly into a head wind, arms felt slightly sore once I had arrived ..

had a good catch up & thanks to Pauly a educational once over of BB (n oil change) completed, then geared up for the ride home .. wind not to bad in palmy thought it would be interesting down Longburn straight .. hmm slight lean nothing major .. got to the 55 k corner (currently being changed to a huge sweeper) and then ended up riding into the head wind(now easterly)
and knew it was strong .. reached the end of the straight & right hand bend, being on the left of the road eased around the corner & bam next min I am on the other side of the road .. thankfully no other vehicles, took the left hander as approaching the bridge & railway line so slowing down & the wrestled the bike to keep her going fairly straight .. stopped at intersection had both feet on the ground & wind was doing her best to push us seriously over ..

Considered stopping in Shannon & wussing out esp after another close episode but thought no I can do this .. never so damn pleased to see my driveway n garage .. wiped BB down since she did not spit me off (gave me a chance to stop shaking)

Realised when I was driving home from my horses that crap its rough out there .. found out today winds in excess of 125ks late sat afternoon ..

In the attachment below you will notice a 2001 Electra Glide Ultra Classic, standing on its own 2 wheels (and side stand) rather than the bike lift it's been sitting for the last month. What you can't hear from the photo is the occasional tinking of the exhausts cooling as the bike comes down from a wee test ride round the block and into town.

Yep, the bike is back and running. I'm feeling mightly pleased at the moment, which will hopefully last many many months until it breaks another belt (at which point it'll be getting a chain conversion kit. Or possibly a bullet).

I'd like to say a big thank you to my friends Cazza and Brizza, who loaned me the use of part of their garage for the last month and put up with my coming and going at odd hours. Also a big thanks of course to Bonez for the truly excellent primary locking tool, which I will happily lend to any other Harley owner pulling their primary apart. Thanks too to Owl for the lend of the torque wrench - I'll get that back to you asap. And thanks are also due to ANZA - they sorted the warranty claim on the belt, got the other parts I needed fairly smartly (it's amazing what you find is broken when you pull half your bike apart), and Stu in the workshop replaced the starter jackshaft seal in the primary case for me while I waited first thing yesterday morning. And thanks to everyone else for the moral support and encouragement.

Sorry for the lack of blog updates, if you've been following it. :) The last week proved a bit busy between work and actually working on the bike. I'll post more photos when I get some spare time.

See you on two wheels on Friday night, if not before!

paekak hill and the 'taka are all good, the akatawara rd though... not so good. Did it last week and it wasn't really fun. If it was 15 to 20ks shorter then maybe but as it is today, its a bit of a slow 2 gear slog and quite messy with debris on the road as well as fast moving locals and the odd large vehicle on whats essentially a goat track!

Somehow I think ths is the best thing to ever hapeen to us and so far we are still mates.

And its a bit of a honeymoon period with the bike too. Ive done 2000km in two weeks now and I'm more interested in riding it than modding it at the moment. Should've started early. :sunny:

A mint day out. Breakfast at McD's with Bonez then down to Himitangi to meet Sly who was a butt slow today and didn't catch up till the Hutt. We had a pleasurable ride over the Akatawaras dodging 4x4s and cyclists. Waited at the designated stop for all the Harleys and Concourses to catch up then realised they had probably been there awhile (refer pics attached). Bonez took the lead into the Hutt (accidentally) :bash:going the wrong way to gas up.

Ate at Kaitoke and let Sly :scooter:catch up. Change of route discussed and we came back over the Rimutakas (KK finding a false nuetral and nearly getting rear ended by Bonez) and took a slight detour through Alfredton, Pongaroa, Hopelands and back to Bonez's for coffee. Mean as :shit:(shit)winds out east. 383km from Palmy return. 431 km from Feilding return.

Reminder: Bonez must change oil, KK must change pants.

Thanks for taking the lead Bonez and your Connie is ONE HELLUVA ARTIST.

Pretty sure I've sussed out the oil leak- one of the bottem oil lines that attaches to the lh frame rail needed a tweak, touch wood. It was mentioned when I bought the bike but have had no real issue till todays ride.

Sorted out those carb boots and clamps as well. Whoever put the thing together was obviously smoking something funny. Glad I spotted them looking for the source of the leak. Mufflers are on the way out but still 3 months till the next WOF(EMGO to the rescue there), clutch resevouir topped up. All good to go.

at least this week you did not fidget as much as last week .. but what was the deal with taking your feet off the pegs ?? .. could feel it & forgot to ask

hmm I think the gixxer is better off staying in the garage for now  .. after all your having to much fun being pillion :nya:

Thanks everyone. I had great fun today on the ride today. Thank you all for being so patient and waiting for me. :2thumbsup

Hope my lack of skills weren’t too scary for anyone.

you did fantastically well Tracey esp with the wind not to mention gravel etc .. & great to see your confidence grow the further we went .. blardy well done chick  ..

That was another great ride Sandra-sorry I didn't take the pillion 101 tuition....but the last time I was pillion someone decided to frighten the shite out of me so would rather not just yet.
Great to see another new rider carving up the Manawatu roads, you did really well and had some nice cornering going there though Halcombe.
Great to catch up with the Shannon riff raff-who let you out:innocent:

no probs babe .. one day soon :) hmm I think the shannon riff raff just bolted outta the gate ...

What a good day (to have a bloody headcold),decided not a good idea really,as sneezing whilst driving aint fun,let alone on a bike and helmet.

Decided to head to Murrays for lunch, drove into Feilding and holy shite in heaven, about 10 cars from the glorious Tickford group were there, that is FORDS for those unfamiliar with vehicles. They had a run from Wellyville via back roads stopping at Shannon and a secret lunch stop,we were too late(forgot the date they sent to me till this morning) to join them at Shannon so were rapped to meet for lunch.Typical do the introduction thingy and get an invoice for this years subs and buying fuel raffles by the book,ah well good cause.

Decided to sneek outside and heard a distinct rumble at other end of town, seems you lot were thirsty at Sage? Only downer was the organisers' told the bar 25 for lunch, they had ordered but very slow service but still excellent grub,by the time they left you lot had gone so did the cuba thing and wandered down the street, amazing who you bump into.

Have it on good authority that Bandit pillion seats are bloody uncomfortable,so best I fix/attempt a fix asap, bugger the Triumph rider arseing off just added to the dillema saying yep damn uncomfy, thanks Mate.

Overall a good weekend had all it seems.

:argh: Shannon where's that??? Exactly. Levin/Kapiti. Whats with that???

You must be joking.
Adventure riding is ok but any kind of riding is better than no riding, and being a pillion could be the next trick, It works for Al.

I like playing in water or mud, even jelly.

I should'nt have shown Sandra the video clip now i'm in trouble. The world is a small place on a computer. At least she has'nt got the clip. Well i don't know as she was playing on my computer last night. Or should i say doing house work for me as i'm a male and those jobs are best kept to the ones who know how it works. :2thumbsup

yeah totally .. sighss

your right about any kinda riding .. but Jelly :gob: ... :nono: dunna want to know about that one

but but.. its such a good video clip .. & captures the moment perfectly :niceone: .. nah will leave that for you to post up  hmm housework wots that  ..ohh you mean sorting out ya thousands of pics ....hmm yes saving them, I hope you remember that lesson last nite .. select a destination is quite important ... :blip: .. once the rest is done it will be a new puter for sure

Best i keep riding and when i find it you will be the first to know ok.

Goodness me the them and us and the others thing is getting really out of hand and tiresome ah? I'm sure there's a Manawatu and surrounding area crap thread about somewhere ;) As thread originator could a mods be as so kind to remove the crap. You know you want to.

Keen for another not so secret ride this weekend Gary? I'm popping over to Havelock North to see the olds.

PS: for those that don't know were to post crap- http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=55645

Saturday could be a goer for a quick Hawkes Bay run.

Sunday I've got the first Feilding Ride on at 10:00am. (This is open to all sensible Manawatu Riders). The response seems to be good at stage, time will tell. Will be nice to meet a few other locals. Check out flyer link below.

No offense meant by the "them others", :doh:it's just great to see so many rides happening and riders getting together. It's not a them and us thing just different rides.

Heres my take on the weekends riding.
Had zero reception at Himitangi beach so was wondering how I'd get the ride message but...

Got up early morning, fed kids from the previous nights slumber party, let Jo sleep in and got the bike prepped. Somehow ended up assuming the ride was off as the weather was ass.
9.53am I suddenly get reception as the sun comes out and I get dumped with a ton of messages from everyone including one saying to meet at himitangi turnoff at 9.30... Doh!!!!

10am I'm trying to get out of the house and away from Jo and the kids - hard work I tell you! I have Jo message KK that I'm on my way and to relay locations as the get to them so I can try to catch up. I'm over 40minutes behind.

Hit levin as I get the message they are leaving Waikanae and heading into the akatawara's. 30mins behind

Hit the akatwara's as they are hitting the aka cemetery - 20mins behind

Hit the cemetery as they are hitting the cafe - 10mins behind... not too bad really.

Catch up, discuss graphics for KK's bike then wave goodbye as I head for one run up and down the rimutakas and they carry on over and home. I then head back to Wellington for the drifting at Karori.

As I roll up to the lights at the Silverstream bridge the bikes dies and the dodgey ignition wiring begins a meltdown. The things we do to ourselves...

Fix that in about 15 secs and still make the green light. Discover the joys and horrors of motorway riding in heavy-ish traffic, so many gaps, so many temptations - so many reasons for cagers to hate bikers. Restraint is acheived... mostly.

Get to Karori and the windturbine, a few shots then down to the LongGully Slipway track. Been a few years since I stepped foot on the Watsons land and not left in an ambulance with a few soil samples of the SuperX track. This will make a change.

The track is a $200K master peice.

Our supra is even better.

A day of baking in the sun, rev limiters screaming, radiators popping, tires smoking and rubber flying follows, along with a discussion of the folly of youth and just how broken us original 5 Long Gully Freestyle riders really are. Ben, the track owner and son of the land owner one ups me on scars with both his hip joints padding and fluid having ejected themselves from the socket and making him hobble like an 80 yr old man. Tim, the other son, blew his shoulder out a few weeks back on the track and then again yesterday. Me, I suffer from constant headaches and hip cramps after 10 concussions and a dislocated hip among other injuries from spectacular arrivals back on terra firma. Believe me, chick dont dig scars THAT much...

I reconsider going for a few laps for old times sake. Mr Watson just nods and laughs, stating we have all become old before our time.

The sun sets and we have a wee cry over packing up with 4 sets of tires untouched. Ah well, theres always the workshop driveway...

Its off to Nandos for some pointless hotsauce skulling games then home. After wiping the tears from my eyes and being able to breath again we all head off.

Footnote... bike blows a main fuse out of Levin after the dodgey wiring returns to bite my ass. A friendly MXer picks me up after watching me blow the olny spare fuse I have after touching the wrong thing. We laugh, he laughes louder though...

End the day at Himitangi for the night where Jo also laughs, and so does a few randoms I didn't know before that point. Glad I'm such a funny guy really... lol.

Well it WAS a good excuse to stay at Jo's again...

We won't mention the wind gust that I wasn't expecting on the way home. That scared the :shit: out of me, looking at the bridge getting close, and me going towards it. I don't think it was even a close call (it just felt like it).

Another first for me.:sweatdrop

Gee (Wet roads, wind, gravel, other riders, all in one day) I might be a natural in disguise

That wind does that to you :sweatdropand its so much better to be with other riders when it does. Sounds like an awesome first ride. The wind is probably the hardest thing to get used too. It won' be long before the winged steed is showing the wise(?) old owl it's hooves. Now that will be a hoot. :woohoo:
