Hope you don't mind Sarge
Wasn't the weekend but it kinda was if you're on holiday.
Got handed the keys at Hunterville and started her up. Brilliant noise from the rear end. First impressions onboard were, amazingly strong chassis and motor, and that was just the first few feet. Gave her a quick blip to give Sarge a chance to saviour the aural heaven and then we were off down SH1 to Halcombe.
The bike feels really light both at rest and on the move. Nice big analouge dials with the digital stuff nicely placed and easy to read. Looking down at the tank revealed that lovely metallic blue green sheen coming very nicely out of the black.
Being the main road and all meant taking it easy, passed 3 :Police: but no worries, all busy with other clients.
This bike is very easy to ride slowly. 100kph is just on 3000 rpm, so she's barely ticking along.
Got to the turnoff and saw ?00 + very quickly! Christ she sounds good too. Into the sweepy bits and she's very well balanced with no hint of drift with throttle use. Extremely sexy backfiring on the decelleration going on!
Large amounts of throttle on the straight mean a HUGE RUSH of power with the bike wanting to slide forwards underneath you :woohoo: Very comfy in the turn. The gearbox is very silky and there's a digital gear position indicator to help out.
Hope Sarge got the benefit of the noise too, from all reports she's a baritone.
Looking forward to seeing it again!

Getting quite breezy here but i'm heading over anyway.
Incase anyone is interested 86, Owl and I are meeting at 1pm at BP fitz and gonna go for a pootle over the track through to the cafe at Balance for a coffee the back to Palmy through the gorge I think... maybe the saddle, we'll see I guess, welcome to join if you so desire.

Righto then, time to think about sorting a ride to Wanganui on Boxing day.
We need a meeting place probably in either Palmy and/or Feilding, a route and a meeting and departure time. An idea of who is interested in riding as a group over to Wanga's. I know of one person from the Hawke's Bay crew that has voiced an interest in maybe meeting up along the way too.
Thought's?
BTW, racing is scheduled to begin racing at 11am so I reckon maybe arrive an hour before hand so we can have a squize around the place. If it's hot don't forget hydration and sunscreen.
Good shit Sarge. I suggest we LEAVE the main BP Feilding at 0900, do Halcombe, Marton, Marton Reserviour, Turakina Valley, Wanga's. That's a great ride to start the day. Either that or straight up the main line which is quicker and we'll see lot's more bikes. And :Police: too if previous BD's are anything to go by. Don't forget shorts or cooler clothes either.
Ok, here it is then for those who are interested. Really want to LEAVE at 9:00 so maybe we perhaps look at getting to the Fielding BP at 8:30 (ish) for discussions and what have you.

Popped down to the BP Fitz today around 1pm to buy myself a Butter Chicken pie for lunch and knock me down if there aren't 3 bikers there gasbagging?!
Seriously though, popped in to admire Sarge's new bike, looks and sounds very nice. After a bit of the usual blather, the 3 bikes (Sarge, Al, Owl) headed off for the track... and I came back to work. :(

Absolutely fantastic ride. Lovely roads with some fast, some very sharp corners. Take care though. Very neglected roads from Masterton to Castlepoint. Last time we went out there was a 200mm drop where road had been cut out and not replaced. Also stock around blind corners.
If wind is moderate entering Castlepoint watch for galeforce on Hill over the top and side gusts at the bottom, particularly on MY BRIDGE. (Look for the soft bank between the two big pines.)

Did you go to the Feilding BP this morning?
Just wondering if the Hawkes Bay crowd had anybody to meet up with.
Saw Robertydog with a group, must have been them. They got going before us though.
Really good day. Great ride over there, the company and racing was excellent, primo vantage point and the whole event was very well organised. One serious crash though, not good. Managed to lose Cowboyz on the way home, how does he do that? Dogs and I came back via Fordell, Hunterville and Vinegar Hill, very good run. Just going to apply some more sunscreen, I'm a bit red at the moment.
The Britten didn't race, but did a display at lunchtime.

Good ride over. Racing was awesome. Good to see guys doing what they are good at. I left the bikepark behind dogs and stopped at the roundabout waiting for you. Dogs took off up the road and you still didnt show up so I thought you had gone and done other things. Hit the main road and missed the Fordell turnoff. I was following a bike I thought was dogs who went striaght through at turakina and decided that wasnt him so I turned off and did halcombe hill again.

Ah, ok. Yep, I was a bit slow getting out of the park. I thought we'd said we'd go up the hill to Fordell (from Wanga's) and we waited there. Shame as it was a real good run back, but I can see how it all turned to custard. It's so easy to get separated eh. Good to see you anyway

Been thinking before my holidays are up i'd like to do the Tiahape/Taupo/Napier loop just to size up the bike on a longer ride.
That is approximately a 600km round trip from my door step.
This will be weather and sadly money dependant for me but if I watch my p's and q's I think I can manage it.
If there is anyone else interested in coming along let me know, dependant on the people interested might dictate weather it will be a weekend ride or could be done during the week.

The beach was awesome, slight breeze which helped with the temp.

I think someone needs to do a proper write-up seeing as I wasn't there. Though I did see Sarge on his way home as I was coming into Ashhurst - in the car...
Is that my que?
Why is Cowboyz so quiet?
Well well well.
Spend the day getting my ego bashed.
Was good too see a good selection of bikes at mobil ashhurst this morning. It was planned that Mrs C and her brother would drive the kids out to castlepoint and I would 2up her home. Somehow, Mrs C has forgotten what Manawatu rides are and expected us to average over 40k/hr (ha ha ha)
In any case, Ashhurst have been shocking of late with running out of 95 fuel all the time and today was no exception so peeps decided to fuel at pahatua. Having a south island vistor on the ride (cheers Jwalker) it was compulsory to do the track so we headed off via o cows tree and hit the track it fine form. Being 1up it was playtime and made piahatua in time that Katman would defintely not approve of chasing 86 and dogs over the track. It was a solid run with a slight miscalulation and brushing my brow as I reached down to my reserve switch hoping that I wasnt already on reserve. Its not like I needed to be pushing the bike for the 5th time since I have owned it. It turned out well and made the fuel stop with plenty in reserve.
Was shocked to hear Bazza had a minor get off the bike early mid track but he being ok and very little damage we got treated to a little speech and carried on out Alferton way.
The impact of the speech having full effect on all riders till the 100km/hr sign and then it was back to normal riding sweeping the backroads through to Masterton/castlepoint road. Spent my time mixing it up with some pacey riding and some pootling. Was enjoying the sun and nice wide open spaces.
Improptu drag off the masterton turnoff with the 9 Vs Glenns RF900 resulted it the RF taking off in rapid fashion and the 9s front wheel point at the sky. I find it really hard to launch the 9 from and standing start and got lesson 1 from a suzuki for the day. Then feeling very confident on a rolling drag I wound on 6th to find myself seeing the tail end of the RF for the 2nd time in 5 minutes. Missed out on the prize money on that one and carried on to wait at the masterston/castlepoint road while some headed to town for fuel.
While we were waiting we hear of the demise of the Gpx so Glenn headed back for 2up duties.
After a few smokes and enjoying the sun we headed off to finish the castlepoint leg. Pootled behind Monie at what turned out to be a surprisingly (to me anyhow) pacey pace (nice work monie) before remembering that once I got to castlepoint I would be 2up so this was my last play for the day. Sneaked past and gave the 9 a bit of a workout for a while.
Briefly stopped to talk to Dogs who was waiting at an intersection and the mighty 14 and Yodmeister showed up so tucked in behind them for the rest of the ride. Seems Yod got some pace for christmas and ended up being a ripper of a run to the beach before catching a whole group of riders just before the beach.
Coming down the hill to the beach I thought I had the front tyre blow out on my with coming out of a corner the front did a big lets fuckoff sideways and I had to do a fair bit of convincing the bike that the fairings and road dont mix. I was a little confused about what was going on and slowed to walking pace to nurse it the km or so left to the beach. The steering was really really heavy and it was a real struggle to get the bike to go round a 85km corner at 15km/hr.
Pulled up for an inspection and found that a bolt had fallen out of my instrument panel and fallen on exactly the right angle to lock my steering. Not mint. Took a bit to get it out but once I did the bike was mint again.
Castlepoint was fucking hot! CJ showed up on a CBR250. We had seen him just before the track earlier in the day sitting on the side of the road but didnt know who he was but it was good to meet you out there.
Sat round and talked for a bit, caught up with Mrs and kids (who had already been there 2 hours) and relaxed in the sun.
The ride home 2up was interesting. Havent been 2up for what feels like an enternity and the road was really really hot now and the tar was melting under the bike. Pootled back to masterton on what felt like ice in some places letting everyone go past us and got plenty of complaints from the pillion about how slow the ride was. I was quickly losing confidence with the way the bike was handling at the ammount of grip availiable and the superlight front so it was err on the side of caution and caught up with everyone at masterton for an icecream and coke.
Main highwayed it back to mangamorie where following 86 and Meanie I was getting used to the difference in handling being 2up and getting some confidence back. Through mangamorie I was having trouble keeping the front planted on the ground so waved Ferris through and had a really good run through to the track. Back on familiar roads had a really good run and finally got a pacey ride in my pillion could enjoy (had to happen eventually). Everyone filtered off in all directions and the day had come to an end.
Hows that BR?

Nothing to do with the 'landing' eh
What a ride!
Got some good news from my 'financial provider' this morning (pays to threaten em sometimes) so thought I'd do a quick run up to Turangi to check out the new bits (awesome James :niceone:). Couldn't take the Tiger as it's well overdue for it's 10K service so thought I'd wof and reg the Gixxer and give it a run. That done, hit Vinegar Hill at a hammering pace and promptly went onto reserve at 153 kms (normally about 180) about 20 kms north of Waioru! Bugger! Could see rain in the distance, didn't want to turn back so decided to chance it. Crept along the side of the road in the now pissing rain at 3000 rpm, coasted down all the hills hitting 77 kph on the big one :woohoo: finally getting into Turangi with less than a litre in the tank!
James, you did a fantastic job, huge thanks mate!
Finished mopping up the leaks from the roof and thought I'd get away before the rain hit Waiouru but just as I was about to leave an old mate turned up and we nattered for an hour and a half, giving that rain plenty of time to spread evily south.
Hit the road just on 5.30, no wets, and through the heaviest rain I've seen in a long time. The desert road was intense, viz down to about 100 metres and cops parked up on a blind bend causing the line of traffic to all brake heavily and nearly causing a multiple pile up, me included. Just managed to slip around on the inside though.
Fuel and coffee at Taihape (thought I'd better) then back into the wet stuff. As long as it's warm, who cares about rain. Bloody marvelous!

He who rides from the back roads of Dannevegas tempted me with The Evil Dark One on Sunday.
It's evil.
It's dark.
It's a beast.
I was subjected to around 70-80km of pure Kawasaki malevolence.
Utterly surprised by how much lighter it is to throw around than the bird, if "throw around" is what you do with 1352cc's of hyper-sports weapon.
Considerably more wind pressure than the bird, probably exacerbated somewhat by the bar-risers fitted. What we surmised is the 14 is probably more comfortable up to 120-130 but the bird is presumably better beyond that, as you go from the "enjoying the wind taking the pressure off your wrists" zone, to the "hanging on for dear life" zone. The 14 you seem to sit "on", the bird you seem to sit more "in"; but that's not being derogatory, they're simply different, I was quite happy. After my short experience I think I'd prefer the stock clipon position, but that's just me.
It was solid on the road and solid in the corners - just like the bird - I didn't really have any preference there. The bird has excellent brakes (linked). The 14's were better, holy crap, just a touch on the front and you were wiping of gobs of speed. I didn't like how long the rear brake travel was, rather disconcerting after the bird but meh, hardly a big issue, you'd get used to it pretty soon.
The bird seems to have better grunt through the low end and start of the mid-range but it is fitted with Micron system, front to back, and a PCIII, where the 14 has only had it's cans changed and is still at the mercy of a stock set of headers. A pootle on a stock bird would be interesting. A pootle on a 14 with a PCIII and a 4 into 1 custom exhaust setup would be unreal.
As far as top end goes, it's difficult to judge. When a six foot five gentleman offers you his almost brand new two-wheeled missile for a pootle, you don't tend to think "I'll see if I can get my knee down at 275". Although I stretched it's (looooong) legs, I kept it inside the double by a reasonable margin. Suffice it to say I expect it is a reasonably rapid animal, it certainly approaches face-blistering realms with ease, much like the bird.
Across the board I think I'd be just as happy with either bike, except for the handling of the 14. It's quite remarkable how much lighter it feels to move around when you consider they're basically the same weight.
Dirty Evil Dark Beast, I never should have tried it.....

I hate to say it but that's the truth. (By the way whatever happened to "[I]This Forum will be de....") It's a confusing world.
This my NON RIDE REPORT - Took #1Cage to Havelock North today with the family to visit family, go to Ocean Spa etc. Fantastic weather. (What a great day for anyone on the Ferries) Oh so slow on the way back. 70kph North of Dannevirke and not able to pass. Missed the bike badly.
Saw heaps of bikes out, only one idiot south of Waipawa. (You don't overtake into the path of a 4WD on a passing lane) Gravity Canyon ride sounds reeeeaaaalllllll good.
Some million dollar pics from my Sis's house. Maybe I could enlarge / make them into some dummy windows.

Riding through the back from Pahiatua to Oringi I was pootling along minding my own business when some arsehole upstart hare thought he'd take on the 14!
Shot out of the long grass as was running straight down the road for a short while and as I drove up on it, it did a left hand turn and I think it though it was going to jump me coz it sprang up and hit the fairing of the bike at mid hight, some smallish damage with a hole lightly punched in the plastic. :angry2:
All the little shit had to do was run straight for one more split second and I would have gotten past it.
Will look into what the panel is worth and might replace it at some point later but would like to mend it at least for the time being.

Ah bugger on the Hare Sarge, I know how you feel. That rabbit of mine caused $3K worth of repairs!
Speaking of tires, I was just at TSS in the Hutt. Pilot Road 2 180/55 $300.00 and all others similar relative to their normal retail cost. The sales guy explained that they do em at such a good price because they get other benefits such as increased sales elsewhere. Now those are darn good prices and worth it if passing by imo.
Had a really good run to Gravity Canyon yesterday, definitely a worthwhile destination with a great cafe, and some pretty spectacular bungy jumping. One poor guy took about 5 mins to psyche up and still needed a nudge :sweatdrop

I'll count myself lucky then, if and when I fix/replace the fairing panel i'm sure i'll get away for alot less than $3K!
If ya keen to catch up tomorrow Al if it's fine you could take a run to Vegas, i've gotta go into town to sort out how much it's gonna cost to send these panniers to Greymouth.
I'd come over there but I really need to slow the traveling down a bit so i've got a tyre to run to the coromandel on and money in the bank to get me through the rest of the holidays.

If it gets as bad as the gorge was yesterday I can see them canceling the rest of the track day that's if it even gets started.
Mind you the weather is meant to be average so it should be ok I guess.

Well I have a few plans for tomorrow. The first and foremost is to bring my bike home in one piece.
Had chats to the insurance company and even though I HAVE NEVER HAD A CLAIM EVER!! they are raising my excess from $500 to $2000 for tomorrow for $5000 cover (yep, thats 40% folks).
And I am not allowed to run slicks. We had a chat last night and they were going to see if they can change things a bit but as at 4.45pm the night before that is where I stand.
In saying that the only suitable tyre I feel confident about taking on the track at the moment is a hand cut slick for the front. The rear is a pilot sport which I got from trademe last week.
So I am pondering if I pick out one of my other front tyres and go with the hiked up insurance for the day or if I take my chances on the good tyres and go out in the medium for the first session and see how it goes. If all going well I might move to the fast session. I would like to crack 1.25 before the end of the day (in theroy because no one will actually be timing me of course) But yeah, Will see how I feel in the morning.
I am a little disappointed with the insurance.
If it gets as bad as the gorge was yesterday I can see them canceling the rest of the track day that's if it even gets started.

I think one of you is talking about the manfield track and the other is talking about the pihatua track......

I have been let down by my insurance company too. Even though I applied in writing they say they only provide cover run by kiwi track. I don't know who they are, but christ, a track days a track day isn't it.
Anyway, I'll probably still get the Tiger out and take it easy. May even take the Gixxer, not sure. Bugger.

well I am home. mint day at the track. Got a little wet this morning but quickly dried out and made for some awesome riding.
Managed to get step 1 ok, brought the bike back in one piece but has a major shudder in the front under heavy braking and over 160k. Really bad on the track but not even noticeable at road speeds. I am thinking either shit brake pads or front wheel not balanced. At the stage I am not entertaining the thought of warped discs cause that is an expensive exercise.
Managed to put together some 1.30s which is 5s off the 1.25 I was hoping for but great day out all the same.
Wait for the bragging to come from a certain tiger rider.......... On ya 86. had some fun out there.

Absolutely brilliant day out! Great to catch up with so many cool people. Shame about the shower slowing down the first session, it felt a bit trecherous out there to begin with but soon dried out. I was hyper aware of having no insurance, but once the tires warmed up it was nice to forget about that. Quite pleased with some timings, heard 1:28 which wasn't too bad I think for a Tiger, wonder how the Daytona would go? Almost got me knee down too and my left boot is shagged, time for the duck tape. Lance, always a pleasure, must be something to do with age, or something

Yep got it sussed at a free for all event like that one ! I'll be taking my geny down to the dummy grid in future and just rip the warmers off when they open the gates !
Yeah did a couple of session after the wet one, which i pulled in at 1 lap haha spanking new rear was a bit greasy ! First was in the med/fast/come all group cause i was too late with taking the warmers off for the fast and was locked out ! But good to scrub the rubber in on (not good for lap timing though, lots of traffic), managed to chase Russel round in a fast group in the next session which was good, Got me a 1 29 in that one (so ya pipped me by a sec there lol couple more laps in that sesh would have lost a sec or two more i recon ! 57 the goal now lol)! When i got locked out of the next fast group i gave up !
Sooooo like the structure of the taupo days ! Think these lads and lasses will be giving up on the free for all after today, saw one guy going off his nutt at them at the dummy grid ! That's when i thought screw it, i get enough track time in without having to fight for it !
Pleased they pulled such a good crowd today, can only be good for the sport !! Think they were taken a little by surprise by it ! Hope the stress of controlling a big crowd, don't put them off running several of them a year lol !

TBH. I raised concerns over the free for all format and got told to HTFU and get to the grid ontime. Yes it is a cheap day out but you are still paying for the day and it would be nice to get what you paid for. I learnt that from the last one so was lining up really early but even so I still managed to miss out on the fast group a couple of times. Didnt bother me too much as I was running clear track most of the time in mediums. Be interesting to see how vic club do it next week.

I'd love to take the Daytona out, but alas, she's having a rest in the shop. A full on sportsbike would be the go, as the Tiger just doesn't have the blitz necessary to deal to the straights. My max speed was 188, kept hitting the rev limiter and then got dealt to by the R1's and Gixxers. And Daytona's come to think of it :blank: Yeah, I am working Friday, but I'll have a shop around for some insurance!
