Right, gotta get some k's up and wear out my tyres (11k and still going strong). Heading around the mountain tomorrow.
Leaving here at 8 and meeting Gary at the Feilding BP.
Going right through to Te Kuiti for lunch and may possibly be diversions on the way home. Not mucking around - GC rules in operation. Looking at 600km minimum but want to be home in daylight.
If anyone wants to enjoy the pain and meet first in Palmy let me know otherwise meeting point is in Feilding. Departing Feilding at 8:30.

26th September 2009, 18:40
whats GC rules?
The GC is The Rusty Nuts Grand Challenge - 1,000 miles in 24 hours. Therefore riders can't afford to muck about - you don't need to speed but stopping has to be kept to a minimum as in only when you need gas.
Tomorrow's ride hasn't got anything like that pressure but I'd like to keep things moving as a bit of practice for the GC.

SH 45 is underated, but hard on a bike due to impressive views, shame you didn't head to Opunake Beach(time constraints),can't beat it on a good day.I see Manaia busy as ever, nice smell with Yarrows Bakery.
SH3 to Te Kuiti is a bloody good trek, again great scenery.
Thinking of heading that way for toy run which is usually first Sat in December.Goes round the coast NP-NP,with lunch at Hawera and afternoon cruise via surf highway.

I think it's running a bit rich. I've found I don't need any choke at all to start her up, even when it's been quite cold overnight, and you can smell the fuel in the garage when it's warming up.

hi guys copied this info fr wellington meeting fr wed nite .. would recommend ppl go & read info after the below post (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=1129475223&postcount=195) as well ....
I've got all the email addresses (still checking on a couple that bounced back) and have created a gmail account with the email address wgtnridersaccprotest@gmail.com and I'm happy to utilise this as a way to communicate with people at the meeting who aren't Kiwibiker members and/or distribute info (several people mentioned feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the posts on Kiwibiker and not being able to easily find resources as a result - not a criticism just a fact).
These are my notes - feel free to copy & distribute them to those who couldn't attend, I'm aware I may have missed some stuff. CherryB also took notes and will be sharing these.
We’re not about “pissing off the public” but educating them and getting them on-side.
Be clear about the facts.
31st Oct. 09 is a Wellington Rally (not a protest ride) venue TBA by Peter Macintosh of Ulysses.
17th Nov. 09 is the BIKEOI date:
We want a co-ordinated, safe and law abiding BIKEOI.
The WCC will assist with parking
The Police would like to be informed of an approximate number of riders that will attend (StoneY will liaise with the Police)
Ensure everyone knows the rules for the BIKEOI, i.e. no wheel stands, no running lights etc.
e. StoneY will liaise with (a woman whose name I didn't get) around risk assessment measures for the BIKEOI.
Visit your local MP in person and discuss your concerns.
Make pamphlets/posters/information accessible to everyone.
Involve as many riders by spreading the word!
ACC protest t-shirts can be purchased from http://www.quasimoto.co.nz/products/...otest-t-shirts
A suggestion made to instruct/advise riders about the BIKEOI is newspaper advertising
Ms Piggy will liaise with potential contacts at Radio NZ National.
If you can offer accommodation to any out of towners attending the BIKEOI on 17th Nov: please contact Mom on Kiwibiker.
If you can help out in your lunch hour handing out information pamphlets: please contact Bend-it on Kiwibiker.

Hey Chanceyy, top effort by all those who are coordinating all the various protests.
I won't be able to make the protest ride on the 17th of Nov and will consider the rally on the 31st of Oct although i'm not 100% sure what that's about if it's not to protest, however I wish all those who can get time to go on the protest ride the best of luck and I hope it goes well etc..

thanks Sarge
just had quick call with Dave, will get a few details sorted but we will be attending both dates, Leaving Levin 10 am sharp just needing to confirm but will be probably be from fatboyz bar (behind Cobb & Co) (just past 2nd set of lights on the main drag)
being that the welly rally is for next sat be good for those who can not make the 17th to come out in force ..
most of us know ppl who ride bikes but are not on kb, as soon as we have details confirmed be great if everyone can spread the word.
Dave & I will catch up for coffee & once details are confirmed with Welly organisers we will hit high gear to get info out & about :)

Was fun yesterday and today, headed up to Hawera, organised to stay with a mate and have a few beers and meal, then as about to leave little bro phones, says dad expecting us for tea seeing we're heading north,so ring mate sorry can't stay for tea etc, feel stink to arrive, then go and sleep in caravan. He ok,even said to take his ute to visit another mate, saves putting bike gear on,choice.
So away we go for tea after several stellas and steinies, more beers at dads in celebration of my hatching day Saturday, get home to mates place about 10.30pm,mates son has a few mates, they're having a feed, the father enjoying himself, had a coffee and off to bed.
Beautiful morning today,no cloud, then wind died, couple of coffees and left about 10am,stopped at Bulls for coffee, due to pillion seat user having sore bum lol. While there 2 out of 3 cops seen drove passed.Great weather to travel, and only one idiot driver in a pissy Daihatsu mini car trying to be mobile chicane from Feilding turn off to Newbury,so zipped passed.
And although never ,ever a huge fan of Harleys,in mates shed was a brand new fatboy, beaut colour Blue and 1000KM,the bastard came to Palmy Saturday to pick it up in his van,we passed each other when we had car and trailer trip.He fired it up,standard pipes and sounds bloody nice, why the fark do harley owners put pipes on them, this sounds sweet, can hear the engine ticking over, and when revved is impressive,he had a boulevard with vince and hanes pipes on and sounded way loud.

Had a great 7.30 am run down to Wellie for the Buell's first service (1600 km). Had a good time yakking at WMC and Michelle picked up some great Harley jeans  at a bargain price and I got a Knox back protector which fits like a glove :D
After a visit to Mum's it was off to Parliament to join 600 other bikers for the Ulysses protest. Excellent meeting and I really think the point was made very nicely.
I was really impressed with Annette King who turned up on her hubby's bike and gave a very strong message to gov't that bikers will NOT tolerate this shit!
All the speakers put across the message very effectively and I doubt if National will have the balls to go ahead with this now
Don't forget the 17th, very important that as many riders as possible are there. If today was anything to go by then 1000's of bikes on the 17th should finish them off perfectly.
Met up with a few of the gang and lunched at the Parrot and Jigger before a cool cruise back up the line for a spot of sheep and cattle wrangling

Monie and i went to Turangi on Friday and suprise suprise it was raining most of the way, got to 2 degrees over the desert road. Cold and wet what a great combination
Follwed a rather large pickup truck over part of vinager hill with Big is good on the back window and Mr mega as the license plate. Yep it was the mega man himself, naturaly we showed him he had no place on our favourite strretch of road and left him to it
Nice ride back through Taupo, Napier and highway 50 today, even managed to get a clear run through the gorge to finish FMS
Oh yes and Monie and i will be there on the 17th

Yes well we caged it to katikati by 11.30pm, got up on Sat morn and went to Tga to visit bike shops, Yami, triumph and ducati dealer first, they had a nice tiger, lots of ducati sports bikes, a multi strada, r1s and r6s, no fjrs, unfortunatly, seemed real friendly. Then to the KTM dealer, who only had an rc8 and an adventure bike, so we visited the kwaka and hyosung dealer who was just closing, so we quickly looked round and left. They had lots of various 650s, nothing to great, so, home we came, have a guy interested in the swift, so we may be close (hopefully).

From Ashurst, over Saddle road, through Ballance Gorge, back over Pahiatua Track.
The Ballance Gorge road is pretty good (short) ride, though first few km's is a little blind for my liking, it opens up after. Only saw one cage, and a couple of bicycles on the whole road.

Had a excellent run in the swift to Taupo to meet it's new mummy and daddy today. Thanks so much for the meanies who happened to be going to Taupo for Subway for lunch and found a hitch hiker on the side of the lake, who just happened to have his riding gear with him and brought him home:first::first:
Thanks so much:2thumbsup to meanie who brought me home, Monie had me worried just before Taihape when she almost had to get the doughnuts out, but he must have seen something else of interest, or got made a better offer and let us keep going.
Then 2 mins before the Colyton Ashhurst turn off, we spot a KBer taking a knap on the side of the road with his bike still in the lane so all the cars could go round it, armed with kiwifruit and apples, not sure what for but hey, doesn't matter. So any way we stopped and asked him if he was o.k. and he said yeah, he just felt like a horse and was waiting to be floated home.
So all in all a great ride home, thanks once again to the meanies for a great day. Awesome.

anyhow.. after 2 days we finally sorted it with the help of meanies garage and sparkles electrical skills.
Originally I thought it was a wire rubbing on the frame. couldnt find it. Took heated hand grips off and it came right. Right faulty handgrips. Problem fixed. Rode it round for over a week and then it left me stranded on the cheltham striaght. huge thanks to the guy who thought I needed kiwifruit... (WTF?) and to 86, mo, and Ynot and co for the rescue vehicle.
Put it in meanies shed and took it apart. Thinking that it must be a dodgey connection on the fuel pump.. Disconnected fuel pump and fuses stopped blowing. Right.. thats the problem. 5 mins later fuses started blowing again.. Right.. look at relays. disconnected relay and fuses stopped blowing. 2 mins later fuses started blowing again. Got sparkles onto the job and ripped everything we could find out and put it back together again and the bike come good. Bit concerned that we hadnt actually fixed anything but crash started it and it started and run. Bit confusing so I started wiggling wires and found wire to the starter relay was rubbing on frame and arcing on the packrack. YAY! Finally found it. Repaired and bike is good for another 140,000km!!!
Huge thanks to all who helped sort this. Hate having my bike out of action. Will be at the bikeio tomorrow now!

Are you sure it won't need rejetting putting a more free flowing filter on?
cowboyz
16th November 2009, 10:52
im sure. because of the direct air intakes the filter has frik all to do with managing air. just has to clean it. there is a hole out the back for excess air to bugger off through.

Your original filter would have a certain flow rate inspite of it being ram air, by putting a free' flowing filter on would it not let it flow more air? I mean that's the point of putting any aftermarket filter on.
Flowing more air would'nt it run leaner particularly when the ramming of air comes into effect? Just a thought... :D
