Not optimistic, this sweet little bike belonged to my wife for several years.
Looks like the new owner only did a couple of thousand Kay's on it.
Great buying at $5500.

Same. But mostly it's not my bike that gets the attention, it's the whole riding with one arm thing. I've had everything from people talking to me from their car at traffic lights (just yesterday had a guy on a scooter pull up next to me at a red light and start asking me about my setup) to people sitting down at my table when out for lunch and ask me about it. Friends have suggested I just get information cards made up that I can give out.

Great running vehicle**.** 2.4L diesel 2L motor. Recent oil and filter change.
Failed warrant.
Needs front suspension and strut bar bushes, both sides.
Drivers seat needs re-upholstery.
Rear light and a headlight mount for one of the driving lights for wof.
Motor runs hot on open road, could be water pump or radiator, although both look fine.
Dent in right rear door, could be pulled out.
Back seat will not unlatch to come down.
Rear door gas struts fail sometimes (usually cold weather).
Has water leaks in rear so I tore the roof lining to find them- two holes either side above rear windows need sealing. New windscreen (tinted) fitted and rear windows reseated by Smith's as below.
Radio has bad connection and does not function.
Some of interior is worn.
Glove box lock needs fixing.
Rear cigarette lighter compartment keeps opening up.
Mat worn under driver's feet.
Power steering belt needs changing (I have a replacement belt).

Well there's a 1983 version on there (that would need considerably less spent on it) that hasn't had any bites even though it's asking price is only $8k.

Yep agreed the stock headlight isn't the best. This particular cafe conversion has kept the original headlights. Removal of the real-world very useful fuel gauge, clock and temperature display. No mention of tuning to cope with the changes in the exhaust system or removal of airbox and install of pods. The pipe wrap will eat the headers in a year or two... and yet another brown seat... wtf is it with these brown seats??
Aside from those, this isn't a particularly well kept example, even if had been stock. Red silicon sealing goo visible at all cooling hose unions. The sealing boots on the wiring loom are obviously cracked and split. It's just going to be a year or two before the issues start.

but isn't this a motorcycle site? you can also have a room full of chocolate bars, of tons of shoes for that money, or a few laps round the pacific on a cruise ship. it's not the price but the fact it's a land yacht here
Yes but the buyer has decided it's too heavy for him to ride , tell me I'm wrong but it weighs in at something North of 500kg. I felt the weight when I moved it off the side stand.
I applaud the fact that machines like these are able to be produced and sold. Whether you like them or not. Fantastic. I'll stick with my Hayabusa though. Having sat on the Boss Hog and started it , a little part of me wonders what it would be like to ride.

Jezuz the worst bike I ever rode was a ST1300. Just getting it off the sidestand was hard. I pulled over at the first servo to check the tyre pressure. No, they're all like that sir.

The ST1300 I had was a lovely machine, very smooth. Only had it for 12 months though. You must have had a bike with dodgy tyres.

Having just got off my old 1050 Tiger, a tall and top heavy bike, I still wasn't prepared for how heavy that piece of shit was. Did amuse myself with the power screen for a short while, but was happy to give it back. A 'mercan V8 in a bike would be quantum times heavier.

Here's one out of left field ...
Haven't ridden the bike but sitting on it and starting it was interesting . The weight of the machine and the sheer dimensions were mind blowing . The sound it made when it fired up were startling. My mate at work is selling this, evidently has an offer at 40k.
Sounds like a good deal to me. 502ci Cadillac motor.

Just select the date range and they disappear....but not all of them.
Saying that I did put a 2016 T120 at $14K on my watch list along with a flat tank Norton and WW2 BSA ( neither of which would be a useful bike)
There is a 1958 Tiger 100 on there for a good price and I know the owner, If I did not already have a Tiger 100 I'd be down on that.

My friendly local Honda dealer loaned me an ST1300 for a ride around Mt Egmont/Taranaki, about 160k distance. I don't recall the weight as being a problem but was impressed at the comfort of the suspension. Oh, and like you I fiddled with the screen for a while. Doesn't everyone?
In Britain there are complaints of some ST1300s developing a weave, this problem has caused at least one fatal crash. The one I read of was a cop and I wondered if that might not be attributed to the way the cops load the bike. BIKE said some do it, some don't.
MY dealer was very friendly and I got to ride almost the whole range from the Grom to the a six cylinder Gold Wing and Valkyrie. Now those latter were heavy when you slowed down.
RIP Craig.

Assuming you're talking about Adrenalin, who have one of these, I haven't dealt with them but have been in the shop a few times just to be nosy. The owner seems like a decent enough bloke, seems to be doing it for the passion rather than the business. Lots of cool old two strokes.

After 9 very happy years I'm thinking of trading the K6 on a gsx1400. Love the gsxr1000 to bits but its just getting too hard on this old body now. Takes days to get over a 2 hr ride.
I am amused at the prices people want for their old bikes (have been offered 6 grand for my mint uncrashed K6).
Gunna be hard to go back to a Battleship like the gsx1400,but if thats what it takes to maybe ride another 5 yrs so be it.. (I'm 70 now ).<_<:yes:

That Yamaha should be comfortable and you won't have to row it along with the gear lever. Never tried one of those but had a punt on a CB1300 which is a similar concept. The 1400 would be a bit tough to manoeuvre around the camellias at my place.
Oh, and there's no rule says you have to quit at 75 either.

You could buy something a bit older, piss easy to work on, slightly modified to suite your tastes, runs smooth as silk and can betcha no one in your area has a roadworthy one.. Does 200km plus without but hurt as well as keeps up with traffic no sweat at all.. Tires guaranteed to last 10,000kms and only cost about 150 bucks. Parts easy to get. A years Rego $50. Good for back road riding and comes in black of course, if one chooses, with orange optional.

Yeah it's a funny one. There was a mania in Britain for classic bikes to restore about a decade ago, serious tulip market type stuff, and it would've sold in five minutes flat during that craze. Obviously here and now is different but 50 people are watching... a lot of cashed up people are about to retire and will be looking for a twilight years project or two, he might actually get the money.

That looks similar to the first bike I ever rode: a sprung hub Speed Twin. Even such a dose of nostalgia couldn't enduce me to own one of those now.
When I did own classics a wise man mentioned once that you either need to be a good mechanic or independently wealthy. I'm neither.

" not really but as all the cool bikes are gone we'll give it a shot"
That was built by Michael Dobson that built Kasper, the K100 race bike around 1985 that I restored a couple of years ago.
He's got a long pedigree & is quite a clever & artistic bloke.

They have made a nice job of it, whatever it is but it always comes back to the same thing. The person spending all that money no longer wants to ride it, doesn't have a museum, and no longer has much interest in it as a result. So they list it in the vague hope they can get their money back...

I've capitalised the issue with your post.
Everyone describes 'performance' differently, and none of them would put that bike in the "performing" category in anything but fuel economy.
...you may have capitalised it but you spelt it wrong...and around TOWN there is no need of performance, therefore I reiterate what I first said...a pretty cool little Honda with all the performance necessary for around town...fucking expensive though...

I just looked up the weight of a TZ350
They are claimed 115KG so i are being a tad optimistic.
Even with lighter brakes with a RD frame it isnt going to make 120kg as hoped now is it
Although just googling a Gamma was meant to be 130KG std, 130 it might be suzuki ad speak for mid 140's
Std a RD400 is meant to be 165KG, crikey, they carried it well.

Dave likely never realised that thew engine was the size of a Hillman Hunter or Austin Maxi.
To be fair if its 125 HP and 1.75 liters its hardly more higher tuned than a 1979 1300 Escort Sport.

Still don't believe it. We're talking Americans here, wildly optimistic doctored dyno results on marketing engine. What the customers get and how ineptly it is set up would be telling. I've spent a fair bit of time operating a dyno to be cynical. Ok 1800cc is pretty big. But it will ne crude as fuck and thermally unstable.

I wasn't referencing their own marketing dyno results, rather that of results from individual owners. Seems there must be a lot of wildly inaccurate dynos in America judging by the results I've found online.

Beg to differ. Ugly as sin and more embarrassing than being seen getting out of a sheep, but the one we had went like stink and was a tardis inside.
BMC actually did half reasonable with that motor the for the time. I recall using it as a tow car in the late 80's going racing and was Dad's work hack. It may have been spun at the BayPark Hairpin off the back straight in the wet....never mind the speed at which I was able to hustle it to Hamilton one Monday morning for work that would get me locked up now, even with the two laning most of the way.....:laugh:

I had a Maxi for 4 years when the kids were small. When there were traffic lights at the top of the Bombay Hills, the connecting pin between the gear stick and shift rod under the car fell out just as we were approaching the lights on red. Managed to pull to one side, find out what the problem was and jury rig it with a 1/4" bolt. A real bloody hassle as the car was full of kids and camping gear. I think that was the only problem until my wife drove it for a decent distance with a split hose and boiled it dry. Used rather a lot of oil after that. :facepalm:
They were charmless old puddings but plenty of room for a young family. That's about the best that could be said.

I had a google about them ns they wee Alec Issigonis last design
As per normal with the poms management knew better
they decided to alter the design to save money by using the same doors as an Austin 1800/Kimberly
Thus lengthening the design making it look out of proportion.
All the ones i remember were the same colour
Lime green
Pretty sure the gearbox linkage was an issue for many
Same stupid pom management would put hatchbacks into princess and allegros. Despite them being designed for them as they were afraid they would steal sales from Maxis
Supposedly the Aussies wouldst retool to build the maxi so they built a Austin 1300 with the Big Block 1750 and 45 speed i have never seen on but there were suposed to have been sold here as the nomad along with the maxi
They're a bloody good car, stop hating on them.
Drew they could be the greatest car in the word but that wouldn't stop them being ugly.
They are Ugly and they were not great or even bloody good. They were room and ahead of there time in spec, but they were rusty and unreliable and staid.
Remember the 50 and 60 years of Mini i celebration, no one celebrated the 50 years of the Maxi

Many years ago when I bought my Norbar torque wrench it was advertised as being the brand used by the British car industry. I was never sure if that counted as a plus or a minus, but it would seem Norbar survived whereas the British car industry didn't.

Beg to differ. Ugly as sin and more embarrassing than being seen getting out of a sheep,
Actually late 80's sheep (all) farmers were on their knees and i recall visiting my brother to see sitting amongst about 500 perendales the most ugly thing ever - the aussie version - the six cylinder kimberly which he'd proudly bought at a clearing sale... i told him he must have no personal pride any more and he should hide it behind the woolshed. a week later he had found two more (a manual and an auto?) way down the taupo napier road and drove one while towing wife in the other back home. Then a few weeks later i was riding my XR500 home from a trail ride and met him in his "favourite" one (duck egg blue) which he had been out jetting on the backroads... any way he says give you a race and off we go me thinking i dont want to shower him in rocks (gravel road) so i'll back of once i get past the bonnet. turns out its now turboed running over 20psi and on methonol and i got well smoked and showered in rocks as well. He had done a lot of work swapping gears between them and all sorts (water injection after 7psi) and it was frightingly fast on the open highway.It shows what can be done if you have no self respect...

The escort 1100 had a lower ratio diff in it, compared to the 1300-1600, so it could actually move under it's own steam. My Uncle, famously, bought an 1100 automatic and put a CNG conversion in it. He had to wait for it to warm up considerably in the morning before it had enough wellie to get up his driveway. That's what 20yrs of air force training can do to a man!

Pretty sure the 1100 autos and the small vans ran the 4.4 diff
the Std mk2 1300 ran a 4.1 the 1600 ran the 3.89 with 3.54 as an option mainly for the Aussies.
the escorts depending on the market ran two different diffs salsbury and i can remember the other one one had a diff nugget you could easily replace the other had to be stripped.
but the MK1 were different with the 12 inch wheels they ran a 3.89 with the 1300's
a mate had a 1100 mk1 and he put 13 inch rostyles on it it would hardly move.
Escort on the id plate
A = 3.545:1
B = 3.777:1
C = 3.889:1
D = 4.125:1
E = 4.444:1
N = 4.111:
Engine mk1
Escort Mk1
B = 1098cc high compression
C = 1098cc low compression
R = 1298cc GT
S = 1298cc high compression
T = 1298cc low compression
MK2
T = 950cc (unusual continental poverty spec Escorts were sold as 950's )
G = 1098cc
J = 1298cc
L = 1599cc
France had the 950cc crossflow which was even shorter stroke, As all the crossflows 1900-1600 all ran the same bore.
For rally etc the 4.4 was the preferred diff. the best place to find these was the Anglia vans. the cars ran 4.1.
One model had a swallow combustion chamber that was prefered as you could run flat top pistons.
A Nissan 180 B stell crank can be fitted and if you find the right block they can go out to 1760 on stock stroke.
Awe the good old days...........
Aftermarket or org special order go up to 5.1 but the Escort diff was only good up to 160HP or so so the real cars ran a modded narrowed and strengthened v6 Capri Diff (Atlas)
I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the 1979 Escort Sport was 1600cc....
Story I heard was that nobody in NZ was stupid enough to buy the base model 1100 2 door, so they sent them back to the factory and turned them into 1600 sports, stick on stripes and a 2 barrel weber sells a car like hot cakes.
not sure the years the there was a 1300 escort sport mk2 but thought it was made right to the end.
we kept on making mk1 in vans i think, after we should have switched to MK2.
