Their is an even better story on the tag. Two lone bikers and one 80cc bike left Christchurch (yep two up) headed for Nelson where they were to pick up a further 100cc bike and ride to Picton, Wellington (then Top Secret event) then Masterton.

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=99297

PirateJafa and Motorbyclist had set off on an epic adventure.

Today all they had to do was ride to Picton, get the 10am ferry or at worst 1pm ferry and scoot over to Wellington.

Sadly the onset of the motor dying on the Suzuki 80 meant they had to return to Nelson, ditch the Suzuki and carry on to Picton 2 up on the 100cc Honda.

They finally made the 6.15 ferry with the plan to make Wellington not long after 9pm and see if they could still make the Top Secret mission.

Sadly their equipment (80cc Suzuki) let them down.

Their Top Secret mission (PirateJafa's idea) was to steal the tag while on their Epic Adventure across NZ on bikes that should never be used for touring, should never be ridden long distances and shouldn't be ridden two up.

The tag was located and the location confirmed and had all gone to plan they would have achieved the impossible and got the tag.

A great effort.

The irony is that Cloggy posted up that he'll shoot down to meet them at the ferry unaware that he'd got the tag they'd lined up.

What can I say. A great effort regardless of the failure to achieve the goal.

Still the Epic Adventure continues and you can follow it at the above link. :crybaby:

Hey guys

Just wondering if anyone wants to join in on a ride tomorrow. Its going to go a little something like this:

1000, meet at avalon park
1030, leave avalon, head for levin.
1200, regroup and gas up in levin, leave for paihiatua via paihiatua track.
1330, regroup and gas up in paihiatua, head for gladstone, via alfredton.
1530, lunch at gladstone, leave for wellington

Times are aproximate (im just guessing) probably less than that, ive never actually timed it.

PM me if anyone is interested or just turn up at avalon park.

New tag!
This is down a little path about 50 metres long. For those who don't want to take their bike down the path, a picture of the bike at the start of the path as well as a picture of the post at the end of the path will be accepted. Turning around at the end of the path was done in one go on my little Scorpio but bigger bikes might require a 2 or 3 point turn. If you're riding a Goldwing or similar forget it and park at the start of the path.
Obviously no street view available for this location although the spot is visible from more than one location when panning around in street view. However the low resolution of those pics makes making out the detail a little challenging.
Can give lots of clues to this location but lets start by seeing if there is anyone who might recognize the location instantly.

Clues.... I need Clues.....

Went to go on the ride with Wuzard but didn't get to Avalon in time. I was hoping he was going to come over Haywards and up the coast but we never passed each other so no idea what route he took.

So here I am, all gassed up and don't know where to go!

I could always shoot over to Gladstone in about an hour and meet up with him there.

That spot also has a geocache hidden, which was the reason for me heading out on that little peninsula last time.

Looks like the Auckland crew are hell bent on getting our tag.

They have had two goes already and are planning a third covert mission.
Maybe we should organise a ride to Waiheke and steal their tag. It's been stuck on that island for a little while now.

So! Jumped on the bike and headed over the Takas hill to meet up with Wuzard at Gladstone. Got caught in a 'shower' on the way on Haywards which I thought would blow over. Wrong!
Went up into the clouds at the top of the Takas and it was bloody :cold: Down the other side and got even wetter. Finally got to Gladstone only to find no-one there.:crybaby:
Quick U-turn and headed back. 2 mins from Featherstone the heavens opened again:thud:. Pulled over and finally put the wets on. Back into the clouds in the rain and the dark with cages up my backside.

Finally got home wet and with no feeling in my hands or feet. Now thawed out and dry. A bottle of red wine has just been opened.

Now! Do I really, really want to get the bike gear back on and grab this tag?

 There's always tomorrow!

Hey Hawkeye, sorry I didn't see ya, took a detour through Moonshine road. Pretty rubbish weather out there, so pulled in at masterton, didn't think that anyone was actually interested in riding today (which was quite understandable at some points). Skipped Gladstone completely, instead stopping off at my aunts.
I guess I should really post about going for a ride a little bit earlier in the week. Ahhwell, I took my opportunity to go for a long ride, now I've gotta save up for the next one.

Hi WuZard. I wasn't sure if I could make it and didn't decide until 10:00. I knew I wasn't going to make the 10:30 depart and as I didn't have your number, I pulled into Pauatahanui to fill up and waited until around 10:40. Expected you to come through there. When you didn't arrive I then shot over Haywards to see if you were running late. Obviously you had already turned off at Moonshine by then so we never passed each other. I ended up doing a quick loop around the inlet and then headed home to do other stuff.
Then I left for Gladstone about 2:30. Again we never caught up. No problem! I had a good blast even if it was a bit of a bad night weather wise.

Hmmm, 45km round trip at this time of night, 1.5 degrees outside in Wainui and dropping fast, 22 degrees and nice and cosy inside.

No, I don't think so.

Edit:
And then I see BMWST? has just gone and got it.

Was a little chilly, but not too bad. Was at the Cenotaph, by parliament.

While heading back along the motorway, a boy racer :weird: went flying past me :tugger:, then I pissed myself, as a honda odessy was quickly in persuit, trying to pass it. They were probably doing about 150 or so. I just had to laugh. Poor boy racer being passed by the family wagon.

Will post next tag in the morning, went to try getting new tag photo but the flash stopped working. :buggerd:

Yip, I've been trying to keep a score. It's a very close contest at the moment between about four of us with one person racing to become the fifth contender.
Will need to tally up again after the last two days or three days and 10 odd? tags.
But yeah, more people is better. And four or five of us running away with the tags all the time may not help in getting more people interested. But I urge anyone to give it a go. The more people join up, the less chance a select few will grab the tags all the time.

dont change a thing guys
the game is there for all to play
if new players want to join they will
for sinfull scout or myself for instance, who are all up here on the coast,it's just a matter of waiting till a tag appears where we figure we can reach it in time, and we'll go for it.
nothing will kill the game quicker than letting it stall, eg the adventure tag.
In my opinion, if you really want to pull in new players, move the locations around a bit.
cheers

I dont know about slowing down on getting the tags hawkeye,I agree the more players the better, if people want to play they will and I think once we start getting more daylight after work, and it gets warm enough for the fair weather riders more people will jump in anyway

If I said that, then that would be giving it away a little too much ;)

Its at the end of my street tho. I heard Laxi go past, and screamed after him on my scooter :scooter:

There was one clue that I didn't think about, which was that my address is on my profile, so I guess that could be an unfair advantage for some.

From this gate, alot of people tramp in and out from here to get to the Orongorongo Valley. Aswell as that, the kiwi's that were released are just on the other side of the ridge. The council is considering selling this spot of land for residential development, as noted and pictured in the Hutt News. Kind of silly if you ask me, there isn't really that much space to put a house on there. Ahhwell.

HA!!! if only I'd been around to spot this tag posted!
I grew up in the house 3 to the left of that pic, the rundown place with the wooden bridge over the stream near the start of the driveway (moved out when I was 8).

Nope, I beat BMWST? by just 4 minutes in a tag a couple of days ago. (The one on Rifle Range Road)
Now Laxi or aer0, one of you better grab Eugene's tag or I will on the way home in about an hours time. It is on my usual route so it would be rude not too.

ok so here is what just happened.

its my birthday today...
jane makes me breakfast in bed, apple pie and ice cream :D

then we went out for morning tea at brooklyn wind turbine for a picnic.

then came home, had a little lunch.. jane went out to do the shopping...

all this time i was thinking about when i could go get the friggin tag!! i knew exactly where it was!

jane comes back from shopping, i helped her unload then set up her new photgraphy lights she had been waiting 2 days for.

then hopped on the bike to go for a good ride... went to silverstream to get the train tag, while there checked this thread to see if it had been stolen... nope all clear.
kept riding to visit some friends in trentham... borrowed a computer there to post up that i'd got it and saw it was gone... super pissed....

had a cuppa with the guys then shot down to waterloo... then off to get the new one.

Yep, I agree, it could almost be called the Hutt Valley Tag-o-Rama at the moment.
Part of the problem is that once you have the tag, you want to get home as quick as possible so you tend to take a pic on the way home somewhere.
As I said last night, after I get the next tag I will ensure it is a bit more in a central location where more people have a good chance at getting it. I already know the spot. However I am not sure I will be able to get there tonight.
See how we go. If I can't do it tonight it will definitely be up by around 6pm tomorrow night.

Forget totally about getting the bike in the pic. Don't ask me why or how. But you can see the mirror and instrument panel of my little Scorpio.
It was a 75km round trip for me to get this pic and it is quite nippy out there. Took me a while to defrost in front of the fire and then some dinner to warm up again. Now I am struggeling to get the pic to upload. Tried Chrome and Explorer, using Firefox at the moment so with a bit of luck.....

Okay, the tag report (and clues for others).

Left home at about 1am, off to the Akatarawa's, guessing that its gotta be one of those bridges down there, so off I go. Extreamly chilly through wainui, I make it over the hill where its slightly warmer (still freezing cold tho). Onto the motorway I go.

I get to the silverstream turn off, absolutely stone cold, so I turn off and casually slumber through upper hutt at a steady 50ks to keep the wind chill down.

Finally reach Birchville, and begin my run down the Akatarawas, each bridge I come across, hoping its the one. Each bridge I pass, I got colder and colder. I pass the point of Sinfulls tag, and kept going, all the way to Waikanae. Nothing, not a bloody thing. Bugger, me thinks. Well, it might be out whitemans valley ways.

So about turn I go, and off down the aka's again. Singing and dancing the whole way back (to keep warm :cold: ), I reach Rimutex, and pull in for a coffee. Its now just after 3am. Faaarrkk, well its gotta be out maymorn ways, so Ill start there. I finish off my coffee, thaw out the hands, and warm up the gloves in the ZX Midnight Express.

On the road again, I take off towards Te Marua, and make my turn for Maymorn. Through Maymorn I go, still no tag. Mangaroa, nothing, Whitemans Valley, Blue Mountains, still nothing. Where the fricken hell could this tag bloody be. There cant be that many places a bridge like that could be down. I think to myself for a bit, whilst the Midnight Express drums its beat loudly through Pinehaven. Takapu Valley is rather central, we'll head off there.

Off I go again, on a mad hunt to find this bloody tag. I brave the cold, and hit the motorway, thinking, its gotta be there, it has to. Took the wrong turn off, bugger, back on the motorway, ahh haa, theres the turn off. I slumber on down Takapu Valley, and reach a dead end, still without the tag. Faarrk fark fark  ffffaarrkiiinngggg fark :angry2: sshiiit farker farking :bash: crap  . Deep breaths. Deep breaths.

Extreamly confused and absolutely pissed, I head for the motorway again, and start heading home. Hang on, it could be down Moonshine. I take the first exit off the motorway, and head back for a run down past whitby. Still slightly angered, I let everyone know about it as I head round the inlet, the Midnight Express rumbling loudly.

I take my turn for Moonshine, twisting and turning the whole way through. A bridge catches me off guard, and I drop in to where the tire railings aren't. Thunk thud, thunk thud. Oopps, forgot that was there. I emerge from Moonshine hill, without the tag. Fark it, its now 6am, im going home.

For those who don't have a clue where this bridge is, at least you know where it isn't. I'm guessing now that I hold the record of longest amount of time looking for a tag (and not finding it). I ended up spending 4-5 hours riding around looking for the tag, used up about 3/5ths of a tank of gas, and done about 250ks searching for the bloody thing. What a nightmare.
