......, who still rides, who still has a bike????
Been a busy week of riding for me :)
Nearly used a whole tank this week. Tuesday lunch at Raglan and return via Old Mountain Rd. Today some roads out the back of Huntly.
Plod on western river road between Ngaruawahia & Huntly. No interest in me .. but they were there :(

Could be good for a wee tootle Sundat arvo, maybe followed by watching waikato vs taranaki at the pub 4.30pm and theres talk of going Japanese one Sunday night after a ride.

whose keen, who still rides, who still has a bike????

could be keen, possibly with a couple of noo-b's.
If it does happen to dawn fine, would you be leaving at the normal time (~1000)?

Sunday 15
Cloudy periods, with a few showers during the morning. Light winds

Me too, Warr - to the extent that I missed TWO dental appointments...

Raglan pre-work on Tuesday (first appnt missed). Otorohanga pre-work on Thursday (second appnt missed). Random pootlings pre-work this morning. No Mr Plods anywhere. Which may have been fortunate today when I passed that truck...or not...:innocent:

Me and the Mrs jumped on the Trumpy for a tiki tour to Waihi for lunch.
Was a bit damp through the Karangahake Gorge so I just turned me heat grips up a bit -naice!
After the last few weekends of being grumpy 'cause of the rain I wasn't gonna miss a chance to get out + the old girl is sick of my bad weather moods!

I'm finding 2up no probs, just take it easy though and haven't tackled any windy roads.
I've done a few mods on the bike to tidy it up a bit and that; still a few things to do ...eventually.
Had probs with it being hard to start and use of choke fouls the plugs; got the carbs running leaner and just switched to 91 octane gas - now starts 1st pop - sweeet. Downside is that headers are "bluing", seems common though so no worries.

On the way back:

Cross the bridge at Rangariri, Turn right down Glen massey (open her up down the straight) and take the first left Rotongaro, follow that till it intersects with Heatherington then shoot off down Waikokowai, then hang left Waikokowai in the township, head down past the mine and thats you on the Waingaro-Huntly road turn off, hang a right and you'll end up on Waingaro road. WOOP :scooter: What a ride !

I got home freezing cold (cause FARK did it rain on me or what) but with ma grin on, went up the motorway but came back via Pukakohe, Tuakau then all of 22, the tops of that road are exposed to some amazing views and awesome cross winds :shit: IMO the Waikato end of 22 is much better than the Auckland end, in both road quality and taking into account the fun factor.

Today I found out about target fixation  downhill right hander, big muddy berm on the outside, going bit fast, knew I should look AROUND the corner but all I could see was the mud, and that's where I ended up, luckily I guess I wasn't going far TOO fast as by the time I was off the road I was able to stop in the mud and didn't come to rest in the bank behind the mud :mellow:WIN!

Would be a good loop through to the Rangiriri Pub for a stop ?

Wow, look at that big pile of gravel on the side of the road. That's a big pile of gravel, I don't think I'd like to hit that. The gravel is bigger than I thought and getting bigger...yip it's deep. Luckily I rode into it otherwise I would have ended in this ditch.

It wasn't that bad though. Just a pile from a recent grade and seal but it did stop me riding into the ditch. Ah the good old days.

I was thinking of going for a ride but god the weather was all over the place. Started to think of getting the gear out and it'd piss down.

1 - light house ride to south head, Manakau
2 - kawhiia- boat harbour rd- marakopa- Waitomo & any number of options home.

other routes & destinations will be gladly considered as well .....ideas????

300-350 Kms if the weather is good would help sooth the spirit after 6 weekends of CRAP !!

I was gonna head out with you lot but decided to take the old man for a ride instead. I did consider bringing him along but he needs a bit more time in the saddle to build his confidence back up (as he admitted).

Did a cool little 1hr loop: out the road to Mangakino (off Arapuni Rd), turning right at that cafe by Castle Rock and heading back into TA via Bailey Rd I think. Apart from the couple of long straights on the Mangakino Rd, it's got some good corners.

I finally found my regular after/before work loop :scooter: It's only taken 3 years haha

Yeah but I don't think his old bones would be able to ride for that long :) He doesn't have much time at the moment with mum deciding to renovate the house. I'll get him on a group ride eventually.

I gotta tell ya, I am having hashie withdrawals. Brooke brought some the other day but they just weren't the same...it's the deep frying that makes the difference I reckon.

Did the Coro loop yesterday, (in the Ute), how about we lobby the local council for a Coro loop bike weekend, they could close the loop to traffic in one direction, and everyone could ignore thew speed limit - a bike weekend

Can you imagine it being like the Isle of Mann

So who's up for a ride today, head out to Raglan to see the big waves

I sure as hell wouldn't want to ride today. This wind is stupid. It's "batten down the hutches" type of shit. We learnt that the hard way last night. Heard a wicked gust, house shakes a bit, then I hear a crash...

Fuck

Our big little garden shed decides to start heading to the neighbours as well as all my tarps. All my finishing timber is inside getting wet so I'm running between the shed site and the garage throwing everything in there.

Then I drag the twisted piece of junk in there as well.

Now I've got some panel beating on a shed to do (and patching and bending). I'm glad I didn't have the bike in there like I used to.

In may not be as windy in the city as it is here but this is the strongest winds I've seen here. I'm already sick of it.

Couldn't resist having a go in the fun weather yesterday...three minute twenty clip below. Mostly boring but a few indicators of conditions

I've left the sound track in since it gives you some idea of the gusty wind. The camera is helmet mounted so always gives lots of wind noise anyway but the variation recorded here is not common.

This was on SH1 between Cambridge and The Tron. Wind 45 degrees left front - more or less, depending on actual heading. Enough wind strength to require extra throttle to keep up to speed.

There are a few interesting bits in here - you can see the lurches with the gusts hitting at 0.15, 0.42, 0.55 - with rain added in here. Good one at 1.30 as we come out from the lee of the hedge, another at 1.37.

You can hear the rain on the helmet from about 1.55 to 2.00. There's a good blow at about 2.45 and another at 3.07ish...

Definitely an "interesting" ride...

I just checked again and I see it has degraded in the couple of hours since I last visited...although they still say Wednesday will be OK...

Obviously, not the same man doing each section of their website...e.g. right now...

Don't give up yet, just keep checking back, then stop looking once you get a good result. They often have completely contradictory predictions every couple of hours. Weather forecasters should only get paid if they get it right, or some sort of bonus system at least.

Although, pretty much like this is Hamilton at the moment: it will rain in 10 minutes (whether it is now or not), then it will stop long enough to put washing out or get your bike gear on, at which point it will rain again.

Went for my first ride in the wind today, hooray for leaning on the straight. It's like the whole waikato is a nice curved sweeper. :)

I', sick of all the friggin' wind and this is coming from a guy who used to windsurfed so loved the wind. But this is just ridiculous!

This is what happened all through winter last year though. We had all these crazy storms that dumped a shitload of snow on the mountain but there was never a break in the weather to enjoy it.

I just hope it's reasonably all right for Friday next week.

Managed a very fun ride. Up the 22, across to Kaiawa, along to Cleveton, looped back along the sky high road or whatever it's called, shot back part way down the 22, along glen murray road, shot right and did my favourite scoot between there and the waingaro road. GOOD TIMES! Not a drop of rain and the wind wasn't too bad at all.

Here's hoping for good weather next sunday.

Went and had a look this morning at a little loop that a guy I know recommended. See post 2869...

Some quite nice sweepy stuff but a lot of mud and cowshit on the road by every farm gate. And there are lots of them along there too...need to keep some sense engaged as a result.

Saturday 2 A few showers and fine spells. Southwest breezes.
Sunday 3 Mainly fine. Light winds.

There will be a ride on this Sunday leaving the Kingsgate Hotel Carpark at 10.30 sharpish. Destination to be advised after Te Rapa Tavern meeting on Wednesday (yes theres still about 10 or so people who turn up every Wednesday night)

Calendar entry will be entered on Thursday.

When, where, what time???

Its this Sunday and the south meet point for Auckland is BP Papkura (Autobahn) at 10 am for 10.30 departure, so any run from the Waikato would need to arrive there by that time ready for the run into the city. Any suggestions for a meeting time/place??? From the looks of it, the south leg is being organised by Caseye.

Pukky track day on a 250?!?!?!?!?!?!:shit: You're keen! I hate that track at the best of times and only took my 250 to Taupo. The back straight is long enough there for my liking. You'll fall asleep along the straight at Pukky. ahah

I have no dance class in d'Auckland this Sunday. And the weather is gunna be fine (supposedly anyway). And there are about three rides that I could go on...

So what happens?

Herself decides that because there is no class, we have to practice anyway. Which is fine with me. BUT. She wants to practice right bang in the middle of the friggin' day. Which chops right into the middle of any of the orgamanised rides, dunnit?

So I spose it's another solo ride for the slow old fox and a shorter one than preferred as well....

Anybody got a nice scenic 200km ride to suggest for me? I'm getting sick of the same old routes all the time...

Be pleased when the friggin dance season is over...219948

No ride planned as many people are taking the opportunity of a fine Sunday to do their own things, or bikes are off the road, people out of town, or doing other rides like the Ulysses 500 mile ride (meet at Tristram street petrol station 6.30 am) etc etc. Personally I am looking at joining the mag-nz rally in Auckland. Be at BP Papakura 10.30 and then afterwards maybe watching the 250 flash around puke. Wife dependent of course.

If you are riding this weekend have a blast and be safe.

When you get to Waitomo caves where all the tourist bits are carry on to where you meet up with SH3, you will see across the road to your right a road called Hangatiki Rd follow this over the railway lines where it will now turn into Old Te Kuiti rd, the 2nd road on your right is a road called Mangarino Rd follow this for 10km which brings you into Te Kuiti, you now have the option of hooking up with Rangitoto Rd which will lead you onto Barber Rd & into Otorohanga OR you can boogie along Otewa Rd, :scooter::scooter: alternatively if you are heading back to Hamilton from Te Kuiti follow SH3 North for @ 2-3km turn left onto Oparure Rd then right onto Fullerton Rd which will take you back to Waitomo Caves where you can follow Waitomo Valley Rd into Otorohanga & take SH39 home :yes:

Some of the details for the mag-nz rally Sunday. Its in the calendar as well

There may also be noise and smoke, certainly there will be live music, including a newly released MAG-NZ Anthem.

Spot prizes, including a free Track Day will be awarded for existing members (make sure you register at the venue to get in the draw) and for those who sign up on the day, so make sure you bring your $20 and come along and join in the fun.

After the formal part of the day we are heading to Pukekohe Racetrack, where AMCC are holding an Advanced Rider Training Track Day. Here we can see how this training works, and watch a few sessions on the track. Members will not be able to go onto the track on the day, but will be able to get up close and personal with the trainers and participants

If it was any other Sunday I would, but it's just wrong for our family to not sit in front of the telly, surround sound up friggin' huge, little cocktail sausages on one side and whatever else on the other.

Although this year we're heading down to the in-laws in New Plymouth to see if Daddy-in-law becomes the new mayor. The only way I'll be celebrating is if it's in front of there big friggin TV with my little cocktail sausages on one side and .... :)

I'm thinking I may ride down though and the wife and kid can take the car. Gotta do some more practice from what I learned on the track last week.

Me, I wouldn't touch Pukky with a barge pole only cause I've never liked the place. That's why I hit Taupo as my first track. Manfield is meant to be bloody cool as well (well that's why the father-in-law says anyway).

Good you lot had a nice little ride. My ride down to the 'naki was pretty good. Wifey decided to up the pace through the gorge in the car so we had a little carve session while I was following her. And then we hit Mt Messenger!!!!!!:blink::gob: Holy shit that has got to be the worse piece of "road" I've ever travelling on in NZ. It was always a bit cut up but they were pretty good at maintaining it. Now...on one particular corner I was actually bounced across to the other side of the road. I did have a giggle as that though.

Ride back after The Great Race last night was rubbish too, only because of the weather being that annoying half-assed drizzle.

I'm hoping to finally pop out for a ride wit chu fallas next w/e. Of course, I haven't been told if we have any plans that have been booked for weeks so here's hoping the weather and that doesn't change.

If theres no interest and the weather IS crap I may just head up to Hampton Downs for a lookie and wait for warmer weather. Its just around the corner, some of you may want to start dusting your bikes off!.

In Case anyone is thinking of doing the coro loop this weekend

So it looks like everyone's to busy to ride this weekend???

and the weather forecast has turned to crap

Tomorrow

I was thinking of heading along for a putt-putt but noticed the weather is planning on going belly-up. If the weather looks doable I'll more than likely pop down. Maybe even bring the rest of the family.

Pretty much due to the crap weather forecast

Sunday 17 Rain developing from late morning and northerlies strengthening. A change at night to northwesterlies and showers, some heavy

and lack of response of anyone wishing to ride tomorrow (17th October) I have decided to abandon my plans to ride and will probably go to the bike swapmeet at claudelands

http://www.claudelands.co.nz/events/pageid/2145866538/Hamilton_Motorcycle_Club_Swap_Meet

and may head up to Hampton Downs in the arvo

Since I knew it was gunna rain, I went out at 7.00am this morning for a wee pootle...Collins Rd, Tuhikaramea Rd, Kakaramea Rd to Whatawhata, norf to Ngaruawahia, to Huntly then to Taupiri and back to The Tron via Gordonton.

No traffic. Dry roads. Forgot to take me pills before leaving...very enjoyable...:devil2:

Ah bugger. I'm surprised it was that cheap too. I got stung $400 in 2002, no demerits though. Best of luck for the restricted. I'm sure it'll be a doddle. Just remember those exaggerated head movements. :)

If you're interested, this is the restricted route I was taken on (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=101227224669471747738.000484c90bb02a1650a90&z=14). Only problem I had was with clarity of the headset, but that was no biggie.

Yeah, I decided to save myself the money and not do the defensive driving course. I already know the contents of it anyway, and can't afford a bigger bike anytime soon so there wasn't any hurry, besides which I need that $200 for my rego (grrr, mumble, whinge).

Has anyone done a Full test in Hamilton recently? (Dazz?) Wondering how they get you to point out the potential dangers - do they have a 2-way mic system or use the old 'point them out' routine? Anything tricky I need to be aware of?

Trina did hers a few months ago and only got half way through it when the instructor called her back and said I can see you can ride your've passed. Try and get the guy! You can ask her about it on Wednesday if you pop into the Rapa.

Forecast for Weekend

Saturday 23 Fine with light winds.
Sunday 24 Dry with not much wind.
Monday 25 Dry. Light winds.

I will probably be working (rowing teams in so bloody busy) but they should all be gone by 9.30 so Trina and I may be in. Nigels car is racing at Taupo over the weeekend so if we get to Taupo we could drop in therer??

The DD course is pretty good if you don't go into it thinking you're god on the road and know everything. It taught me a few things and I've been on the roads for a few years now (not as many as Murray though ;)) and I actually thought it was worth it. In fact, every "learning" thing I've done with regards to riding I've learnt something and thought they were worth it.

BUT if you can't afford to get a bigger bike there's not point like Rusty said. I think you can get a discount with some insurance companies when you're done it (need to hit my one up and check).

Sometimes they're booked up and several weeks in advance so you may find it'll takes ages to get in.

They stop you for the test and ask you. Some testers don't bother but I reckon this is the most important aspect of it. I got asked to keep doing U-turns and going back through the intersection until I finally got a hazard. It took 3 times and it was only when some road-working came and set up I had something.

They're not interested in shit that can't move (unless of course it's say REALLY windy) so don't bother saying shit like "that power pole could fall on me". Anything that posses a response should be mentioned.

And they didn't ask me what I did to avoid/minimise the danger either. We, tester and I, were more having a giggle about how quiet it was.

Rowers should be gone by 7 :) They like to be near the water early. Only the lazy ones arrive 2 hours before race starts.

That reminds me I need to talk to Nigel about Brooke's car.

A ride this weekend will be good if the weather holds (token gesture to get the thread back on topic)

Two reasons:
1 In case of an accident I would feel oblidged to phone and let your partner know if you were incapable, and
2 If any rider is lost I can phone up and hopefully find him or her.
In Murrays case of course he seems to be suggesting that I should send him an account:yes:

Exactly ;) Pretty much hit any vehicle from behind and it's your fault but I do like it when they explain the reasons why you could fail your test "you cause an accident".

That should make things interesting if the tester hits you from behind.
"You caused the crash by stopping when deemed not necessary"
"No, you failed to stop and maintain an adequate and safe following distance"
"Look punk, I'm the tester"

But anyway, good stuff Mike.
