Since I had to be away from The Tron a little early yesterday, I couldn't join the LOR. Howsumever, I did go to Kawhia myself (only as far as Oparau turnoff actually...) - before any of you buggers were out and about. In fact, I suspect I passed the LOR on my way back home, on SH39 IIRC, yes?
I also came across the group from up norf - Maha et al. They were having breakfast at Oparau Roadhouse. Sad to say I couldn't stop in since I had a time schedule to keep to.
Just had to ride that road again. Pity about the corrugations in some of those corners...
Oh, and no blind corner overtaking from me :innocent: Round trip ca. 80 minutes.

Went through there about a month ago with son, I on a VTR , son on a GSR . Most of metal was about 60 -70 k stuff , some was quite a lot slower. Being of farming stock and used to a little rough stuff we both had a blast. Bikes exceptionally dusty @ end. great scenery to boot !!

We are hopeing that some of the King Country crew might join us and show us around their back roads. If not we will make a decision where to go which may even include Ohura and Taumarunui or Kopaki Road and then to Aria. I am hoping that Shafty might turn up. He lives at Matiere these days.

Would love the company so help me plan a better than average trip.
I remember a couple of the LOR crew were interested and now it's time to get this official.
Lots of rides coming up. So would like this one out of the way within the next month.
I am thinking first weekend in October. 5th - 7th. So take off Friday morning.
Map is up for discussion as you lot know the area better than I do.

Might be able to slot this one in. Pretty much finished the deck railing (some 2+ months later) and the bike should actually be rego'd. The old man will be keen if his bike/leg/whatever still isn't playing up. Heading out today or tomorrow to have a look at an Intruder 250 for Mumsy so may add her to the mix also if we can tear her away from the phone. In saying that, it'll probably just be me :)
Has anyone tried riding a cruiser (like real cruiser-cruiser) after riding a sportsbike? Holy crap, where'd the bloody pegs go?!?!?!?! Weeelllll, I got a Triumph... And, no, haven't gone mad. just mid life crises me thinks. :pinch:
Plus I always liked Bonnevilles, ever since my father took me to see Great Escape when I was a little lad. The king of cool rode one, so I always wanted one ever since.

I wish. A, too expensive and all pre sold. Naah, just the A1 Mag model with megaphone pipes. Don't like the P shooters. Thruxton would have been nice but I think Bonnie looks nicer. And i got a good deal

Well, after owning sports bikes for most of my life, I just recently bought a brand new Bonneville. I guess that qualifies for a cruiser...???:baby:
Na Bonnies don't count. Their pegs are in the right place ;)

Yip gotta do the megaphones. Personally, I would have gone Thruxton over bonnie.
Was it you that bought the Gold Bonnie my wife was lusting over??
Gold??? [scampers to Mr Google for some question answering]
Now that is a cool colour. I dig that a lot.
I started out on road bikes 20 years ago and now back on cruisers. After 10 months of riding it I am still finding it hard to take the corners - so thinking of flicking it off for a road bike.
With my short rides I've done on them for the last few days, I find I just lean on the corners as opposed to the Daytona were I attack them. Of course, that's mainly how I've been taught but there's not way I could ride the same. You certainly just cruise on them. I couldn't imagine trying to go nuts on one.

Funny thing is that apparently you can modify the Bonnie to become Thruxton, Most parts are interchangable.
I originally wanted black colour but there were aparently none in the country, so I would have to wait 3-4 weeks and pay bit more $$. This Gold one has grown on me and was a shop demo with only 300 kms on the clock. Got a sweet deal, free 12mnths reg, free servicing and a leather Triumph Jacket.
Which all up would have been around $1500 or so. So was pretty happy

That would be right. They're the same chassis and tank aren't they? Hell, ya just need some clip ons, different seat and rear guard and you're pretty much there. Unless you wanna make an Ace Cafe Special (http://www.pipeburn.com/home/2010/11/27/triumph-thruxton-ace-cafe-904-special.html)
Good deal. You had to have a classis jacket if you're riding a classic trumpy...it's the rules :)

That is a one sexy cafe racer. Already ordered the M bars and Napoleon bar end mirrors for mine. Next is to get rid of those stock pipes and put some nice sounding ones. I am thinking Thunderbike pipes. Heard lots of good things about them. And yes, the jacket is period correct for the Bonnie. ;)

The thunderbike pipes are really pricey aren't they? Bar end mirrors are a must on any nekked bike.

I am the ride leader for the Ulysses ride on 30 September. We are meeting at Te Awamutu Caltex to leave at 9.30 am to head for Te Kuiti or morning tea at Tiffany's.
We are hopeing that some of the King Country crew might join us and show us around their back roads. If not we will make a decision where to go which may even include Ohura and Taumarunui or Kopaki Road and then to Aria. I am hoping that Shafty might turn up. He lives at Matiere these days.
Reminder for ride on Sunday - enjoy and ride safe those going on it and remember day light saving Saturday night
Sunday 30

and I'd miss the 2nd hour which is cool because the engineers are having second thoughts on their strategy so they tell them to go faster...

I'm being tool man Tim on my bike this weekend and it looks like its going to be wet so if ANYONE wants to arrange a ride over the long weekend GO FOR IT!!!
Good turn out at the Clubrooms last night and some discussion on an Auckland Anniversary Ride January 26th, 27th 28th January 2013.
About 6-8 prospective riders SO FAR!
Route to be determined but Gentle Annie will be there and the East Cape will be included on way back. 2 nights away and approx 1200 kms. More to follow from Chief Organiser Milan!
Milan, heres a link to that East Cape thread I mentioned

This sounds cool. The good news is Brooke may even be keen to jump on this (god knows we've been wanting to do something like this since we got on bikes).
I'd say she'll be dead keen for the next local ride as well since she lost about 3.5kg's in the early hours of this mourning ;) I'm even going to be nice for the next little while and baby sit while she goes on rides since she's be hanging out so much to get back on Sonic II and finally wear her new gear.

Today Ulysses had it's annual 500 miler planned. I was down at the start at 7.00 am this morning. Apart from me it was a complete no show. everyone had read the Weather forcast. I came home and I am now contemplating the rain outside.
Our ride is now rescheduled for tomorrow. Probably just David Coy and myself. Meeting at 7.30 am at Morrinsville Mobil heading for Te Araroa to collect Poker cards for the Ulysses 4 Points of the Compass Poker run which finishs in Palmerston North next Saturday evening.
Forcast for tomorrow is vast improvement on today. Anyone who is feeling like a lengthy ride is welcome to join us.

I'm always keen to ride around the coro area. Also living in Pukekohe, so I may join you folks more often probably closer than having to go to the N-shore to meet groups and nice group of people .
That's one hell of a mobility scooter BTW! :killingme

Its not as much a bigger bike its experience & time on the road. Im FAR from a quick rider & long way to go to be up with some of them here. After a couple of years bikeless & only having this one for a few weeks im learning again in a way, building confidence & learning the bike again....all takes time but the best way is just get out & do it whenever you can

It wasn't in the plan , but it appears our 2 learner ladies and the designated TEC were led astray. He knows who he is & this is not the first time he has wandered.:Oops::Oops::Oops::Oops:

Thats all good , but while one old lady was "learning" her way around the Waikato , 8 other bikers waited for well over an hour, in the sun, on the side of the road, wondering WTF had happened !! 1 even rode all the way back to the Pauanui turn-off, looking for an off, given that there were 2 learner ladies not present , or an outta gas scenario. Very happy that was not the situation , but still .............!!
Heard of a map ??
Apologies for not having someone at the offending intersection , but one mistakingly thought that a sign post with Kopu to the left, & Whitianga/Tairua to the right might have been a clue ???

Yep im gonna head down, might have to do an oil change on the ninja on saturday im thinking though.
Can't pass up a free go down the strip, plus its only $30 if you wanna take out another bike, give you a chance to really open the taps on your new duc.
